The jungle was indeed very pretty and Kaelyn found hersels touching a few leaves with her free hand. "I'm not all that interesting. I was born in Rhode Island, lived in Rhode Island and went to college in Rhode Island. However, unlike what most people think, I wasn't spoiled. I mean, my family wasn't poor, but we couldn't afford extravegant extra items. We got by, had a savings account for my college, and every three to four years we would have saved up enough money to go on a little family vacation for a week." Kaelyn had been happy though with her family and her friends. "It was probably better off that way, I knew not to judge people by what they seemed to have, and I avoided people who used that to judge.

"What sort of injury?" The inquiry was casual, Kaelyn had never really been into any sort of sports but she had seen a fair few injuries from her friends that did play.

Kaelyn didn't know what a 'reverse one and a half' was but she could tell the distress it caused Cole and she didn't say anything more.

"I've only ever scraped up my elbow while riding a bicycle when I was eight, but I had friends that had sprained ankles and wrists from assorted sports." She looked at the tree he was looking at. It appeared as if some animal had been eating from the bushes near the base. "They have herbivores!" she exclaimed pointing at the shrubs.

((Sorry, I just had to throw in some idea that islanders are there twisted Not that Kaelyn or Cole will suspect))

The woman followed, just as excited as Cole in seeing the teethmarks left by the creature. She peered at the leaves closely and frowned.

"Do you know of any herbivores that have that particular jaw shape?" The toothmarks left had the same appearance as human teeth. "Do you think the natives-?" she didn't complete the sentence. The doctors had warned her that some of the natives weren't exactly human as she saw it. They had evolved separately and differently.

Whatever reaction Kaelyn had thought Cole would give, this was not it. She grabbed at his arm trying to get him to calm down. "I am here to help the natives adapt to the resort. I was implying that the natives could eat leaves because I was told that they evolved separate and have different adaptations. Perhaps there are no animals to hunt so they are all herbivores." Even as she said it a shiver ran down her spine. She hadn't seen any fruit trees either, how many nutrients could just shrubs have? Though with adaptations. . .perhaps they only needed the nutrients that a deer had or something. She stood still trying to look away from the leaf, but it held her attention.

Finally she tore her gaze from the leaf. "Feel?" her mind was sort of detached. She ahdn't expected to see humans eating leaves (for that was what it obviously was) to survive. She had expected natives with limited technology, cooking, gathering skills et cetera. But this, this was blatant 'oh, here's a leaf, let me eat my lunch now' type of civilization. "This can't be real," she breathed trembling slightly. "No one can have this low a level of technology, even evolving with absolutely no contact." There was something wrong on this island. What could it be?

The wrongness of the leaf kept a tingle on the back of Kaelyn's neck, but the reassuring hand on her shoulder kept her from doing something rash. "Yes, lets check it out. Do you think the natives have a village nearby?" Her voice was whisper soft, a reaction to the fear that hovered over her threatening to grasp her throat and cut off air. She didn't want to admit it, but the absolute lowness of the lack of technology caused as much fear in her than the fear she had felt when she had been attacked by the dog when she was young.

If it weren't for the reassuring hand on her shoulder the computer geek would have bolted for the beach at the first chance, but Cole seemed to radiate confidence and even though she had known him for a very short while she would have to trust him. "Are you sure about this?" They could still turn back. Kaelyn could stop this crazy project and go back to the mainland and be with her friends. She was perfectly alright with being a coward.
