"I may even have some vanilla ice cream in the freezer," she smiled, finishing the last of her salad. Gavin was looking at their plates anxiously. Were they empty yet?! He needed to eat some of this fabled pie before he fell asleep.

"Pull now!" he pointed toward the wishbone. He couldn't wait any longer. As if to prove his point, he flapped his wings in a restless gesture. He'd sat all throughout dinner thinking about what to wish for. The only thing he could think of that was of any interest of him was that he'd never have to take a bath again. Unless he was with someone.

No more bathtime. That was his wish.

Picking up the wishbone, Stephan held it back out to Gavin, "Alright, and if you get the bigger piece, don't tell anyone what you wished for." It was a silly superstition, even more so that wishes themselves, but still. He didn't even tell people his birthday wishes. He had a fairly loose grasp on the bone, now just a bit dryer than it had been, and planned only to really hold it still against Gavin's grasp rather than pulling it himself. "Get a nice tight hold on it and pull really hard up and back," he advised, winking to Remi.

Remi grinned as Gavin reaching out and grasped the other end of the wishbone.

"Well, while you two take care of that, I'll run and get the pie."

Gavin had a look of deep concentration and determination on his face. Well, as determined and concetrated as a toddler can get. Sure his mind was also wondering over when the next Hawk Man episode was, but most of him was focused on getting the bigger piece of the wishbone. No bathtime was a pretty big thing for him.

"Okay," he nodded in understanding pulled the way Stephan told him to.

Sensing that it wasn't going to break very easily, he pulled down and back a bit on it, pretending that he was concentrating just as hard. Well shoot, the bone was being stubborn. He did his little tug again, at the same time as Gavin this time. And, finally agreeing, the little bone snapped, leaving a good bit more in Gavin's hand then in his own. There, that was a little harder than planned, but it worked, "Looks like you'll get your wish Hawk Boy."

When Remi returned with the pie, Gavin waved his prize in the air.

"My wish come true!" he squeeled. He almost asked her if he didn't have to take a bath tomorrow night, but then he remembered he wasn't supposed to tell his wish. Gavin gave Stephan a proud smile at his accomplishment.

Remi smirked, setting the pie and a knife to cut it with on the table. "Congratulations. You've won your first wish."

Taking the knife she started to cut the pie into slices, putting a small piece on Gavin's plate. He dug in quickly, still excited over his victory.

"You're really good with kids," Remi smiled at Stephan. "How big a piece do you want?"

He blushed a bit at the compliment, making a mental note to watch more of those parenting shows, since them combined with his babysitting experience seemed to be working fine. "Um, medium-ish," he said, shrugging a bit. He was a lot more relaxed than he had been first walking in the door, and even more so with the thought of raising a child. Gavin wasn't so bad, and in retrospect, neither had the two girls been, so really, how bad could his daughter be?

By the time Remi cut the piece and set it on Stephan's plate, Gavin had finished half his small slice. Still, he was getting pretty full. And tired. Full and tired. What a great way to go to sleep. In between one of his bites, he gave a loud yawn.

"I should probably put him to bed when he's done," she commented, cutting herself a small slice and returning to her seat. After Gavin went to sleep, then what? She hadn't really planned for anything past dinner. It probably would have been a good idea to come up with something. Stephan hadn't been there long, and she didn't want to call it a night just yet.

Stephan nodded, taking a bite before he answered. It took him a moment, he didn't want to talk with his mouth full, but eventually he swallowed. "I could help if you want, putting him to sleep I mean." He'd have to learn some way, pajamas and stories and all of that, why not from experience. Even when he'd been babysitting Angie their nanny had done most of that stuff, saying it was too much work for him, even if he was a Big Boy. Of course, he wouldn't have remembered what to do now anyway, it had been so long ago.

Remi blinked for a moment. Help her? Usually Gavin just got under the sheets and then passed out from exhaustion. Almost like a light switch. The little boy had a penchant for running himself until he nearly collapsed. He'd be running, running, running, and then dropped dead.

"Sure," she nodded after finishing her first bite. She smiled playfully. "It'll give you some practice for when you get your own."

Gavin had only a few bites to go, but he was already rubbing his eyes. All the excitement and good food was getting to him. And he hadn't even started on his cookies yet. Oh well, he'd just stick them in his special box under his bed and eat them when Remi wasn't looking.

"I'll need all the practice I can get," he laughed, taking another few bites. He couldn't help but smile watching Gavin tired like that. It was sort of reassuring. Sure, there were bound to be times when parenting was hard, but times like that were supposed to make it worth it. Those and graduation. "So, what they were saying about schools earlier, do you think Gavin is going to go there for the whole time he's in school?"

Remi nodded, "I trust the mages if they say they can teach him well. Plus, it'd be a bit awkward to send Gavin to a normal school, if you know what I mean."

And by that, she was referring to the wings and the feathers. Not exactly your normal, everyday appendages for most children. As far as she could tell, Osha and Haki were the only 'normal' ones, if you could even call them that. Haki seemed to have the mind of someone twenty years older than she looked, and Osha looked like someone who'd had a fight with a paintbrush. In a good way. He just looked...interesting. And colorful.

"And the whole thing with them learning powers," she added, finishing off half her pie. "I couldn't send him to a school where the teachers couldn't handle that."

Powers, right. He'd almost forgotten. "Yeah.. I'm planning on the school here, but I don't know. I suppose that once the power is found out and started to put under control, maybe she could make her own decision?" He shrugged, not really sure what he was talking about. It was a bit of childhood kickback, since he'd been sent to schools he hated for most of his life. "But yeah, I guess for some of the kids that's really not an option, I can imagine public school would be hell for him," he sympathized, nearly finished with his pie.

Gavin wasn't really paying attention anymore. Being strapped in a highchair, he could almost just fall asleep right there. His pie had been reduced to crumbs, and the energy needed for digestion was taking its toll.

"Maybe when he gets older I'll see what he wants to do," she said, taking the last few bites. "Who knows? He seems to have made friends here. If they all attend the school on the compound, he might not want to go to another school."

There should be more kids on the way anyways, so it wouldn't be like Gavin would be totally sheltered from the outside world. The people on the compound were too varied in backgrounds and personalities to let them come anywhere close to being sheltered.

Finally finished with her own slice, Remi looked at Gavin, who was debating whether or not he should keep fighting to keep his eyes open. It wasn't like he could contribute to the conversation at all. Why not sleep?

"I don't think he's going to give us much trouble putting him to bed," she chuckled.

Looking over at the half dozing toddler, he laughed, "Guess not. It's too bad really, I was hoping for a nice wrestling match." At least this whole thing didn't seem to affect the kids' health. Well, none of them seemed to be insomniacs at least. Watching Gavin, he kept telling himself that this wasn't going to be as hard as he thought. He could manage being a dad. He's be a great dad. Or at least a halfway decent one. Standing up from the table, he was the last one to finish after all, he nodded, "Right then. Toddler to bed."

Remi laughed a bit. "I've never much trouble getting him to go to sleep. Usually he just collapses and I move him to his bed."

Getting up herself, she walked over and picked him up out of the highchair. Resting his head on her shoulder Gavin kept swaying in between sleep and drowsiness, absentmindedly sticking his thumb in his mouth like he always did.

"His room's this way," she gestured with her free hand to follow her down through the living room, down a very small hallway, and into the room by the front door. She would take care of tucking him in, so she'd delegate Stephan to other tasks.

"Do you think you could grab his pajamas?" she pointed toward a dresser standing by the wall opposite the bed. "They should be in the bottom drawer."
