"Hn...injustice, eh?" Marlowe mused to herself, face twisting into a perplexed expression. "Sometimes I wonder..."
As their steps carried them along, they came into an out of the way clearing. The cobblestones in this area are worn and cracked, and dusted with dirt and debris. Ahead lies a tall tower, no doors, but looking up one can see a window several stories above.
"Ah, here we are." she said, sighing.

"Sorry...," muttered Falco as he followed Marlowe. "That was a rather personal question...,"
Now that the tower had come into view Falco couln't help but stare at it. "It's like the story Rapunzel that Sarah told me," the zahdl said in awe at the tower's height. "And...it looks pretty old... Are you sure that the item is in here?"

"Yeah, I guess so," Marlowe said, shrugging it off. "At least I'm not the gargoyle. I'd hate to be indebted to him AND stupid on top of it."
Marlowe looked up at the tower, grinning.
"Yeah, this is it. Big tower with no door and a single window. Confidentially," Marlowe said, rolling her eyes, "I think they put it there to mock Mr. Pain in the a** Mage. At least, it's what I'd do to mock him." She chuckled.
"They put it in this old ruin to draw attention away from it. Plus the people who hid it here probably didn't even care about it all that much to begin with," she droned on, reciting what she knew about the object. "It's not much use to one who can't create homunculi or summon objects using gemstones. It doesn't even have much worth as a gemstone, coulnd't even hock it in the market."

Falco couldn't help grinning despite of himself. " You sure have a sharp tongue," he told Marlowe before glacing up once again at the tower's single window. Somehow knowing that the stone was worth much, much less than he had earlier estimated, Falco felt somewhat better; if only slightly so.
"I'm going up then," the zahdl said flapping his wings. " Is there anything I should look out for up there?"

"If I really had a sharp tongue, I'd stab the magician with it, life debt or no," Marlowe replied, grinning. "Just watch out for falling rocks. The tower shouldn't have any other defenses, but it sure as hell is fallin' apart."
She pointed to the window far above.
"The gem should be right inside the first room, on a pedestal. There may be other objects in the room, considering that the old owner of the tower was a frickin' pack rat, but this should be the only gemstone type object," Marlowe put a finger on her chin thoughtfully. "It's bright purple, anyway, so it shouldn't be hard to find."
She gave him a thumbs up.
"Good luck! And don't get caught!"

"Alright," replied Falco taking off and circling the tower a few times before peering down to Marlowe below. The ground looked a long way off and suddenly...the skies seemed lonely.
No, no...focus thought Falco shaking his head a few times to dispell the thought (and nearly falling in the process).
Landing on the windowsill the zahdl then peered cautiously into the tower; his golden eyes darting from one place to another in search of the gem. The hooded guy had been right about one thing though. The gargoyle could never have hoped to squeeze himself through here.

The room was dark, the only light filtering in the window from the moon outside. In several places the stone floor had crumbled away, leaving only the view of a dark tunnel vanishing into blackness. There are several piles of treasure on the floor, mostly statues, both broken and whole.
At the far edge of the room is a pedestal, looking slightly newer than most of the objects in the room. Sitting on a red velvet cushion on the pedestal is the violet gemstone, shimmering softly in the moonlight.
"Be careful up there," Marlow said as loudly as she thought was safe, giving a wave.

Squeezing in Falco nearly stumbled into one of those gaping balck holes that seemed to litter the tower's old floor. Flying carefully over these hazards as well as variuos dusty items and artifacts, the zahdl was really tempted to pick some of the more interesting items up when the glint of the jewel caught his eye.
Flying cautiously over to it Falco guiltily looked about as if expecting someone or something to catch him in the act of wrong doing.
Sarah meanwhile was getting worried. The duo had been gone a long time and in the guardian's eye the girl that followed Falco was as likely to hurt him as the wizard. They were after all bad, right?

The ancient tower remained silent, any security spells that may have once been there long since worn away with the passage of years. The jewel glitters softly, innocently in the moon, unware of its fate.
Marlowe, impatient, leaned back against the tower wall, humming uneasily under her breath. She hoped that no idiotic civilian would come along and see her there, causing more trouble than their worth.
The magician, who had long since sat down outside the city walls, tapped his fingers impatiently against the rock.

Finally convinced that he was not going to get killed anytime soon the zahdl reached out and took the jewel off its velvet cushion.
Now that the item was actually in his hand Falco gingerly observed it. It was just as Marlowe had said; the jewel seemed nothing more than a just shiny piece of stone that reflected the dim moonlight in a rather beautiful way. Holding the stone tightly in his fist Falco then squeezed himself out of the tower's window and nearly crash landed onto the ground below in his haste not to be seen.
"I've got it Marlowe," Falco said holding out the stone. " Let's go before that hooded guy puts in more conditions to fufill,"

"-and...," here Falco sheepishly took off his goggles and turned to face Marlowe. " -I want you to keep this; that way, I'll be sure to come back and challege that hooded guy and...defeat him...if possible. Promise,"
Sticking out his tongue Falco then grabbed Marlowe's hand started off towards the city's outskirts. " But please dont tell Sarah though," the zahdl said as he made his through the city's street. " I don't think she'd approve,"

Marlow took the offered goggles, looking at them silently for a moment or too. She then placed them over her own head, the strap going around the back of her neck so that the goggles hung in front much as a necklace would.
"I promise," she said, unusually solemn. "And I can't help you outright, but know I'll be rooting for ya."
She reached out, standing on tiptoes to ruffle his hair. After doing so, she continued walking towards the city outskirts.
"And don't worry 'bout me telling your guardian. It's your decision, and you need to go through with it no matter what. It's no good to have people interfering, even if they do it 'cuz they care."
The city gate loomed ahead...

It felt odd seeing his goggles around Marlowe's neck. Perhaps it was because Falco had had them eversince he could've remembered and for a brief instant, Falco's hand reached out to feel the the spot on his head where his goggles always had been. It almost felt like he had given away a part of himself somehow. Then chiding himself for his behaviour the winged zahdl hurriedly made his way after Marlowe to the city's outskirt where his guardian was waiting for him.
Meanwhile, after what may be the hundreth glance, Sarah finally spotted two figures coming out of the city's gate and let out a cheer before instantly checking herself. It wouldn't do to let her captor knew how worried she had been would it

"So you made it," the hooded man sneered, crossing his arms, the bottle dangling from one hand. "I trust there were no inconveniences?"
"If you mean, did we get caught, then no," Marlowe said irritatedly, hands on her hips. She was feeling really irate with her so called 'master' at the moment, especially after spending time with Falco. Frankly, she just wanted the whole thing to be over with, for her sake and his.
"Silence," the man said condescendingly, "I was not addressing you."

:"None at all sir," Falco said holding the stone out with one hand while clenching the other in anger. How dare he treat Sarah like that? The way he crossed his arms so casually; the way he dangled Sarah as if she were nothing more than a mere trinket that one got bored of. Anger that Falco never knew could exists was slowly making its presence known in the zahdl's heart.
"I've done my part. Now can I have Sarah back?" continued Falco trying to not let the urge to pummel that sneering face shrouded beneath the hood get the better of him.
