I guess that russians aren't liked here cos most of them only come here without even trying to learn our language or get a job.

Pikku-Timppa But when it comes to finnish teen girls... They suck. neutral Sure there are the exceptions, but they still suck. They're only (read: mostly) interested in drinking and having random sex with people. or maybe that's just me. You're being too cynical. wink But unfortunately that is true in many cases. But then again, they're teens. wink

But basically every country has sluts. That's a fact. wink I don't have sex with random people and none of my friends has sex with random people and I bet that 95 % of Finnish girls don't have sex with random people (except some may do so once by mistake under influence of alcohol). wink

When you say Finland, you can also mean booze.
No matter how many people say otherwise, it's still a fact that most born in 1960-70 up has tried drinking. And the age of trying is going lower and lower. Now days, it would not be uncommon to see a 13, or even as young as a 11 year old drinking vodka. I have seen it.
It's a known problem. But as said, I might have a bit cynical picture from the world, but when you see a man who hasn't seen a sober day, trying to kill himself by laying down on the road, just because he didn't make it to the bus, it really doesn't help either.
God I want out of here.. gonk

Pikku-Timppa I have studied 5 years russian, and I still only know how to read the damn letters... gonk I have NO clue what it means though... You know, I have a friend, he's finnish and he learned Russian quite well just listening to people speaking it. He still has no idea about grammar and pronounces many words funnily, but in general he's doing good... I think it's all about forcing yourself to speak and THINK in the foreign language you're trying to learn. Now I'm making myself to speak Finnish to him, but all I manage to do is write SMS in Finnish... sweatdrop

Pikku-Timppa But other languages, like swedish and russian... they just don't stick. confused I think learning Russian for finns is as difficult as learning finnish for russians... I started learning Finnish after learning a couple of other languages - English and Kazakh (we were studying it in school). So I have some idea about 3 different languages including Russian, my mother-tongue... In this case learning one more language is like a game - challenging and fun smile We have different kind of grammar etc., things that you won't understand until you at least learn the basics... But I'm sure you can do it if you really want it and if you have a good teacher. Just don't give up! wink

There is many kind of people in Finland.
And it is true Finns have the tendency to drink too much.
In the store where I work we often have Russian speaking customers. I find them ok, but I don't know Russian.
About the prejudices... they do exists. For a very long time there wasn't many people of foreign origin in Finland, it's only the last 20 or 30 years when we have had the chance to get to know them in larger scale and for some people it's easier that to others.
Finns are often silent, which might be hard for those who come from chatty cultures. But overall I think it's easy for people to immigrate here, specially the bigger cities. The Helsinki area has plenty of people from many different countries.
