When he was younger and was a Buddhist he was in the middle of a conflict of Buddist beliefs at the time. Anji was currently taking care of orphans of the war and had some help with one of the children he had taken under his wing. He cared dearly for the children and became very fond of them. He gave the blessing of Buddha on them to have a bright future. He was told that the temple would be burned the next day when it had been burned that night. He had gone out to meditate or get water (I forget) when he returned the temple was aflame. The next day the fire had burned itself out leaving an exposed hand of the one who had helped him. He believed Buddha had foresaken the children and he began carry a small stone with him to represent the deaths of the children.
Huzzah! I am on a roll! mrgreen
