A great site to go to, not for tab opr music, but to learn scales, theory, how to improvise, chords, how to exercise, what not to do on the guitar. go to www.cyberfret.com its online lessons, just what a teacher would do when teaching you. Its 100% free and it also has backing tracks to improvise along with etc. Its really good. I say check it out. Even if you dont want to or need to, cos it has great information on it.

You'd be in luck if ElementaryPenguin still came around... I don't think there's another full-fledged classicalist in the guild (aside from you, apparently smile ). Try GuitarNoise.com

Try GuitarNoise.com Thanks. I'm making the switch to classical because you can't play any other guitar as a music major. I always wanted to do it anyway, but you know, never had the money.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Dan Cross Lessons from about.com http://guitar.about.com/library/blguitarlessonarchive.htmAlso, I really like e-chords.com They have video lessons and you can switch keys and keep a songbook and a lot of other cool stuff. Most of it is free, but some stuff is $1.99 a month. Well worth it.

The Elementary Penguin Also, Viola or Cello, not sure which one, is written in another clef that's not treble or bass, so it would be even less helpful to have piano lessons if you wanted to learn this instrument. The Viola is in Alto clef, the Cello in bass. eek ...youth symphony for three years...

okay, time for a big burst of lessons. first, i'll give off some warm ups. they r really simple, but they really help get your fingers limber and such.
alternate pick all of these
1. do this only with your index finger (its kinda a waste of time to put them going back up, but after you get to the low E on these, just go back exactly the same to the high e)
e-1------------------- B--1------------------ G---1----------------- D----1---------------- A-----1--------------- E------1--------------
now only with your middle finger
e-2------------------- B--2------------------ G---2----------------- D----2---------------- A-----2--------------- E------2--------------
now with your ring finger
e-3------------------- B--3------------------ G---3----------------- D----3---------------- A-----3--------------- E------3--------------
and pinky
e-4------------------- B--4------------------ G---4----------------- D----4---------------- A-----4--------------- E------4--------------
on this one, alternate between your index and middle, like index on e, then middle on B and so on
e-1------------------- B--1------------------ G---1----------------- D----1---------------- A-----1--------------- E------1--------------
now middle and ring
e-2------------------- B--2------------------ G---2----------------- D----2---------------- A-----2--------------- E------2--------------
now ring and pinky
e-3------------------- B--3------------------ G---3----------------- D----3---------------- A-----3--------------- E------3--------------
2. on the low E string, move up the string chromatically starting with index in the 1st fret, middle on the 2nd, ring on the 3rd, and pinky on the 4th, then repeat the pattern starting with your index finger on the 5th fret, and continue climbing until your pinky lands on the 11th fret. then go back down starting with your pinky on the 12th fret, ring on the 11th, middle on the 10th, and index on the 9th. repeat the cycle all the way back down.
3. alternate pick these patterns, there are no positions shifts, so your index finger should only land on notes in the 5th fret, middle only on the 6th fret, ring only on the 7th fret, and pinky only on the 8th fret.
e----------------8--5---------------------- B-----------8--7-----6---5---------------- G------8--7--6--------7---6----5--------- D-----7--6--5----------8----7----6------- A----6--5----------------------8----7----- E---5----------------------------------8--
e---------------------------------8-----5-- B------------------8-----5-----7------6---- G------8----5----7-----6----6------7------ D-----7----6---6-----7----5------8-------- A----6----7---5-----8---------------------- E---5----8----------------------------------

now for somthing much more advanced. listen up shredders, cause this is dealing with legato stuff. Dont even bother with your picking hand, we're only dealing with hammers and pulls today. there will be two patterns being used. you wont be using your ring finger for this one ether BTW.
Pattern 1.
there will be one fret in between each finger u are using. hammer with your pinky, pull off to your index, hammer with your middle, hammer with your pinky, pull to your middle, then pull to your index.
Example 1
e---H12P8H10H12P10P8----------------------
Pattern 2.
there will be no space in between your index and middle finger. use the same sequence.
Example 2
e---H10P7H8H10P8P7-------------------------
Big Picture.
This is a toughie if u are new to heavy legato playing. take time to work this up. those who are new to guitar, take it really easy with this. if you spend hours working this up all at once, you'll give yourself a nasty case of Tendonitis, inhibiting playing for the next few days. Trust me. Tendonitis sux.
okay, this is a mixture of the last 2 patterns. and its long. i'll post the turn around, but to start, try just getting the first run down. start at the 12th fret, and use an amp for a while so you can make sure you hear it. Try practicing these groups of 2 strings, then put them together.
The Big Picture.
e---H12P8H10H12P10P87H8H10P8P7-------------------------------- B-----------------------------------------H10P7H8H10P8P7------------
G---H9P5H7H9P7P54H5H7P5P4--------------------------------------- D----------------------------------H7P4H5H7P5P4----------------------
A---H7P3H5H7P5P32H3H5P3P2--------------------------------------- E----------------------------------H5P2H3H5P3P2----------------------
Turn Around
e------------------------------------------------------------------------- B--------------------------------------------------------------H12P8H10H12P10P8 G-------------------------------------------------H9P5H7H9P7P5- D---------------------------------H9P5H7H9P7P5------------------ A-----------------H7P3H5H7P5P3------------------------------------ E H7P3H5H7P5P3-----------------------------------------------------
i couldn't fit it, but the notes on the be string come AFTER the G string, not before the G string is done.
play the big picture, then the turn around, then go down the big picture one more time, and instead of the turn around, hit an E powerchord to finish it off.
Extra Stuff
as an addition to those patterns, there is also a pattern that uses your ring finger instead of your middle. it gives off a more minor flavor. it uses the same sequence as the others, but instead of there being no spacing between your index and middle, there is not spacing between your ring and pinky. this one is a little harder that the other two sequences because it causes motion going from your pinky to your ring finger. no middle finger for this.
e---H12P9H11H12P11P9---------------------------
You can push it even farther with this sequence on the above pattern. hammer pinky, pull to ring, pull to index, hammer ring, hammer pinky, pull to ring, then pull to index. it might not seem that different, but it has a totally different effect on your hands muscle memory. its a good workout.

Helped me out a lot. I can go at a pretty good pace with any song now. Play for 3 minutes then rest for 2. Play another 3 mins. Practice at a pace where you can hit every note without mistake for 3 mins.
