luftwafe Lady Merewyn Y'know, this entire thread makes me think of that song. Mr. Roboto, by Styx. I love that group! It works well for this thread. "The problem's plain to see. Too much technology. Machines to save our lives. Machines de-humanize." Very topical.

oookay... Quote: what hackers would have to gain is an empire controled by them, enforced by robots, subjecting all mankind to their will. and in a world where there is complete economic and political equality, explain why anyone would want this? what need would there be? Quote: What acctually happened in the Dune books is a programer gave a semblance of emotions to robots and other things, such as the will to conquer... yeah... fiction. nice books, but they arent really worth anything when dealing with fact.

A silly man oookay... A guy with imagination what hackers would have to gain is an empire controled by them, enforced by robots, subjecting all mankind to their will. and in a world where there is complete economic and political equality, explain why anyone would want this? what need would there be? What makes you think some people won't want better things than everyone else? Communism eliminates their ability to act on such thoughts but what of techocracy? "Easy-to-Conquer-Mankind kit comes complete with machine horde... bateries not included" blaugh

Quote: Communism eliminates their ability to act on such thoughts but what of techocracy? such a situation, in which there is an almost complete absence of human labour, and it has all been taken over by machines, could only come around in communism. the name technocracy is just a fancy way of saying bourgeois dreamland. in a communist society, the means would not nessessaritly be absent, by i ask again, what is to be gained? if all have equal access to the bountiful produce of the social production, and basicaly, if everyone can have like 17 playstation 19s, 1: why would anyone want that many playstations, no matter what model they are, 2: why would anyone want to take over the world?

Hmmm... CONGRADULATIONS you proved me wrong.[sarcasm]How does it feel to influence others?[/sarcasm] I REALLY don't want you to answer that but you have one. Because the only response I can think of is kind of a joke... someone is a sadist and wants to rule the world so he/she can oppress mankind? blaugh funny... I know...

yeah, sure, it would be great to rule the world, but in such a situation there would be not point, and bwesides, if people just want to use robots for wars, trust me, there will be great streches of land where people can have huge swarms of robotic things killing the ******** out of each other... 't'would be fun...
anyway, even if they wanted to, it would be impossible, everybody would have uber big guns, to stop that from happening.(im serious, everybody would be armed.)

Even in an ideal society, human nature remains the same. Some greedy a** of a person decides that they hate a group or hate a race or are just bored so they destroy what has been built up by the masses.

there would not be any problems of race, for the revolution to occur in the first place, the proletariat would have to give up all of its racial prejudice.
and then you use human nature... human nature fluctuates based on what society we live in. besides, you ignore the fact of the big guns and the swarms of robots to ward off bordom!

You ignore the lust for power inherent in the meglomaniacal! Even in a completely proletarian society there will still be nut jobs like hitler and *gonna be yelled at later for this* Stalin.

Quote: You ignore the lust for power inherent in the meglomaniacal! ok, the thing about this condituion is this: such people believe they have the power already. it is not an obsession with gaining power. so, either you do not understand the condition, or you are equating a lust for power with the delusion of possessing it. either way, if they think they have it, nothing is wrong, as they dont. if the want it, then as i said, everybody will have big guns. just a little note on the armaments thing, : if i rulled a country, every house would have 1 AK(latest model) with 5 full clips, 1 anti tank or anti air portable missile launcher with 3 missles, 5 HE grenades and 2 9mm pistols(sure, it would be better if they were bigger, but if it came down to pistols, then it realy doesnt matter what callibre they are, as you would generaly be ******** apply this scheme to the whole world(ajusting for tech as new stuff is made). do you realy think anyone would be able to get controle? really? Quote: hitler and *gonna be yelled at later for this* Stalin. the thing is this: hitler was only able to get power due to the need for excessive repression of the working class after the failed spartakist uprising and the 1923 revolution. stalin was only able to get power through the strength of the bureaucracy created due to a lack of working class controle of the soviets from the latter half of the civil war(those who would have kept bureaucratic tendencies in check were off at the front killing whites) and the utter destruction of industry and lack of resources and food thereof. neither tendency will be present in a communist society developed enough to have completely mechanised labour. Quote: Well, that settles that. I can rest assured that the robots/rights argument has been stilled in my mind. why are people so childish?
