The bird of flame known as the Pheonix flew swiftly through the smoke, its shear speed and size leaving a clearing of the smoke in it's wake. The smoke however wasn't hindering it, as it had no eyes. It was merely a momentary incarnation of the legendary phoenix. It's target was clear, it would make a straight line for Gath. The flaming bird screeched again, announcing its determination, and closed in on Gath focused on completing its only objective in its short life.

Back on the floor, Kerri squirmed in pain. Muttering a few more words in the demonic tongue, flames grew around her ankles and wrists. Though it brung a small amount of pain, Kerri barely noticed it over the rest of her acheing body. The flames pulled and pushed like solid hands, till Kerri was raised to a standing position, only staying up because of her helping flames. Through wary eyes, she looked into the smoke, hoping for a sign.

(I'm going to go ahead and post anyways, just in case.)

This is it, do or die. He had lost so much energy in this battle, he wasn't sure if he could do anything right now. He had a limit, like all men. The blazing bird screeching towards him would surely cripple him, he couldn't let it hit him. However, exceeding that limit, taking everything to the bonus level that never was, that would surely break his shades. Even if he won, he would surely fail the next round without the power of the spectacles.

He decided to- s**t, he tripped.

What did he trip on, you ask? Earlier in the battle, he happened to open the first mystery bag. What was neglected to be seen (By accident, actually) was the contents. Hundreds of marbles had been rolling around on the glass arena, and eventually won happened to appear under our Hero's reluctant foot.

He fell backwards, right into his coffin, the door wide open from earlier. "That's it." He slammed the door shut, and prepared for the phoenix. If the coffin held, he would live. If it was destroyed, he was a goner. This was it. Do or die.

The smoke was indeed thick, so Kerri listened intently. Inside the smoke, the bird of flame had reached it's target and with full speed slammed into Gath's coffin. An explosion rocked the arena, a thundering sonic boom and shockwave blew all the smoke away from the arena. Flame was blasted everywhere, and the stadium floor became an inferno pit of magical fire that refused to go out despite having nothing to burn. Around Kerri a small clearing in the fire was made as she used her control over it to keep herself safe.

Kerri's eyes searched for Gath, looking for what had become of him...

The smoke slowly dissapated into the air. As the grey cloud lifted, the coffin suddenly appeared in view. It was, surprisingly, still in tact. Lock & Key Inc., Gath's equipment sponsor which provided most of his tools & armor, had a definate reputation of making sturdy creations. This time, they had outdone themselves.

A moment of silence, and then the corpse had returned from the dead, figuratively of course. The door creeped open, and out pored buckets of steam. Another moment of silence, and a now thinner hero stepped out of his heat sink.

He was certainly alive, but the energy loss paired with the heat he had just endured had certainly taken something out of him. But he wasn't ready to give up, not just yet. He threw on the coffin, and slapped on his trademark grin.

"That was something else," he retorted out of egocentricity, "but I'll rock your world, hunny."

Kerri let out her breath, which she hadn't realized she had been holding. Her body was battered, and her spirit near broken. What left could she do?

"No..." Kerri spoke the word defiantly. She was determined to finish the fight. She was alive, and awake, and that was enough. Even physically beaten, she was still a threat. "Γρήγορη φλόγα!"

As long as Kerri could concentrate and speak, she would keep attacking. Fireballs the size of marbles formed by the dozen all around Kerri and after a moment of hovering, they shot at Gath with incredible speed one by one. Kerri chanted the line of demonic words over and over. Each time more mini fireballs formed and rapidly shot to its target. All the while, Kerri was still only standing by the spell of flame holding her up, and Kerri made sure to concentrate on keeping those up as well.

"I will not give up."

His lips were cold, his slick grin no longer a fixture on his battle-worn face.
"I can see that. But know that I will not hold back either." A bead of sweat rolled down his brow, dripping off a strange bump in the very center of his forehead. His face was steely and stern, prepared to take anything at this point.

He grabbed a lever on the side of the coffin, and with a flourish, he tossed it back. The top of the coffin, spring-loaded and mechanical, flew open and out launched his massive blade. Gripping it tightly, he sliced through each fireball as it flew towards him. Each lash of his sword looked taxing on his body, already near the limit.

"Is that all you got?"

Kerri watched Gath split her attack like hairs, inside Kerri grew hopeful. After a short while, the attack stopped. Kerri's eyes rose to look at Gath. "Always look behind you... when fighting a demon. Γρήγορη φλόγα!"

In the air around Kerri atleast five times as many fireballs formed as before, each slightly bigger then the ones she had been using. But it was behind Gath that anyone watching the fight would look to. Because behind him, the fireballs he had been slicing in half into embers had all reformed back into the air. Kerri screamed another demonic word and all the fireballs in the air shot their back to Gath. "I will not stop!"

"Oh, I've got a feeling you will." He wasn't just talking, he really meant it. With a cold and steadfast smile on his lips his hand slipped into his coffin. With a flourish and a flick of the wrist, he sent a flurry of daggers adrift directly at Kerri. They cut through the air and sped at her.

As for the fire ball, he decided that his best bet was to retreat. Moving like a boxer, he didn't just boot it. He pushed off the ground with his left foot and darted right. He figured he probably couldn't outrun the embers, but he could certainly put up a fight.

"I reccomend not telling me to watch my back, it makes things hit a little better." He yelled from across the arena, hoping he wasn't offering up vital information.

Things were getting a little tenser in this arena, without his ace, there came a time for more kings and queens.

Kerri watched the daggers fly at her with incredible speed. In the state she was in, there was little she could do in the way of dodging. So she did the only thing she could. The fire holding her standing disappeared and she fell backwards. Time slowed down and all the daggers passed just over her as she fell. Well... almost all of them. A single dagger buried itself deeply into Kerri's hip. Kerri cringed at the pain as the dagger penetrated her flesh. A scream escaped her lips as her back hit the floor. Kerri was now finding it hard to imagine feeling any more pain then she was in now. Though, through it all, she found the ability to lift her head and keep her concentration on the mini fireballs that refused to give up even as they missed. "He cant run forever..."

Sweat rolled down his face, a drop coiled down his wiry length of hair. "Damnit, damnit! Shitshitshit!" The flames closed in, and his legs ached. They burned more than those fireballs ever could. If he even tried to escape, he risked putting himself into even more pain than if he was scorched.

But an idea dawned on him. Maybe running wasn't the answer after all... Yeah, that's it, maybe.

He threw himself back into the coffin, slamming the door shut, hoping to hell that the flames would be held at bay. "...Not by the hairs on my chinny chin chin, ********!" He retorted loudly, his voice echoing inside the boxy tomb.

Kerri watched Gath take cover once again in his coffin. The pain all over her body seemed distant as she was starting to go numb. Still, she controlled her flames with expertise. The moving storm of fireballs surrounded the coffin and repeatidly slammed into the coffin. As they splashed off like water against a cliff, the embers reformed and grew bigger. Each strike to the coffin was more powerful then the next and it was only a matter of time before something would be forced to give. "Little pig... little pig... let me in..."

The coffin began to rattle and shake with increasing intensity. Each blow eroded the dense material even further. Strangely enough, the coffin's shaking did not cease, even during the off-times when it wasn't being struck. Something inside was moving, it was likely our hero.

As time passed by, an eerie white light began to seep from the cracks and pores in the casket, exposing the structural damage the flames had caused to it. Any longer and it would be splinters.

"Sorry, babe, but this house is the one made o' bricks!" He continued with their Little Pigs bit, but his wordplay grew looser and strayed from the path of the origonal dialogue. It's okay though... It's only banter.

Kerri rolled painfully onto her side, with her body going numb it was getting hard to move without slipping into unconciousness again. Still, she managed to reach her knees before she felt the darkness creeping up to her again. Kerri spat blood out onto the floor. So far into the fight she had received alot of punishment, yet this Gath fellow was still running around. Even as he took cover in his coffin, Kerri knew he had suffered far less damage. "Insignificant little nothing..."

The words slipped from Kerri's mouth before she knew she had thought them. She was frustrated and tired. Still, she was going to continue. Kerri spat out a line of demonic words, as she did so runes written in flame formed all around her. As she finished the runes broke and formed into a long stream of green flame that took further shape into a chain. The chain snaked through the air toward the coffin. It quickly wrapped itself around the sanctuary of Gath and tightened itself before quickly lifting it off the ground. If Gath's plan was to hide then she would simply have to remove his options of cover. The coffin spun in the air, influenced by the chain. Suddenly, the coffin was flung through the air... toward the arena edge. It was clear Kerri's attention was to force a ringout by hurling Gath's coffin out of the pit that was the arena. Kerri watched waiting to see what Gath would do.

Damn, this was clever. It was like holding a turtle over a lighter. It's cruel, twisted, but hell, that turtle will get out of its shell. However, our hero was no mere amphibian. Amazingly, he was not an amphibian at all! He had been a reptile for a while during this battle, but no, never an amphibian. Perhaps if he were an insect, he could crawl through the holes in the coffin. That was a crafty plan. But sadly, our Hero is also not a twinker. He had no such form.

What to do, what to do, what to do? The words raced through his mind, time grew shorter. One plan came to mind. It was a stupid plan. It was a reckless plan. But thankfully, our hero is both. It was time to enact his most dangerous technique.

Only losers came up with names for their techniques, but sadly, our hero is one of those too. From within the bowels of his shell, heroic words came forth. "Jack in the box!" Bam! A sweltering explosion burst within the very coffin. The shield, now closer to a cage, shattered to pieces, and a figure leaped out, the chains snapping around the air and smoke left behind.

And as the dust cleared, our hero stood panting. Charred and drained, but not defeated. He clutched a bladeless hilt, his last vestige of strength. The weapons unstable structure could be turned into a makeshift firecracker if need be. It needed be.

"Looks like someone used the chimney then... Look out for that pot of water then." He huffed out, not letting the cursed banter end. "Sorry darlin', but I guess I would break the chain."

Still on her knees, Kerri growled with frustration. Sighing, she decided on her next course of action. "Little pig little pig... can you swim?"

Kerri shouted out a demonic word or two, and all around her lava exploded out of thin air and into the sunken arena, covering the floor. It spread out from her with lightening speed, racing toward the walls which would soon force it upwards. Kerri cackled a laugh out as the lava seemed to avoid her completly, as if some invisibile wall existed between her and the molten rock. This would come to no suprise to Gath if he had noticed the several times earlier in the fight that Kerri's own attacks and fire would refuse to touch her. "Time to roast me a piggie!"
