Bird pulled the string, weaving it and maneuvering the flashy colors around into a fashionable bow, tied securely around the object's neck. Raven watched, sucking the thumb connected to her good arm, Nana tucked under the bandaged one.

"Okay... that should about do it. Ready to go?" Raven nodded, was collected, and they headed out the door. Soon after they came upon an unfamiliar dwelling, and placed the gift on the doorstep, taking their leave as quickly as they had come when no one was found to be present.

What they left:

A note was held underneath one of the plushie's wings. It read as follows:

Dear Miss DiYanni,
I noted, on our last visit to the HQ, that Madeline was quite taken with Raven's teddy bear, Nana. We scoured the house, but, weren't able to locate another bear; I apologize. However, Raven spotted this penguin, and we figured it was a suitable replacement. I hope Madeline enjoys it!
Sincerely,
Bird and Raven

A rather fair-sized bird flitted down, leaving a small package with a note attached to it on the porch. It chittered something to itself, then launched into the air in a flash of bright orange and blue.

The letter read:

Hi! Sorry I haven't talked to you in a while - busy and such, you understand. I heard about Madeline, though. Interesting!

First: I found out that Kajika shouldn't start to produce poison. There's something in the wild that makes Lehmann's frogs produce poison. In captivity, they're not poisonous! I'm assuming that Kaji would be considered 'in captive,' so hopefully...

Next! I pulled a couple of plushies that Madeline might like and put them in the little attached box. Hope she enjoys them.

Finally, I'd really like to talk to you again. Since I'm not sure when I'll be around the main building, feel free to drop by my house for tea sometime. My doors are always open!

((Feel free to post in my journal if you'd like to roleplay, okay? :3))

Everyday I worry about Madeline. When I saw the other beautiful Edens, I felt so embarassed. Will the other parents really allow their children near Madeline? She's my lovely and gentle child, but I know what some of them must think...How often do I hear women scream in terror and disgust when they see spiders!

As for our own family, I think the other two are getting along well with our new addition. Ilyusha seems unhappy sometimes, but perhaps he is just afraid that Madeline receives more attention than he does now. Momo tries to help with the little girl sometimes, but honestly, she isn't very troublesome at all.

DiYanni

I had such a terrible nightmare last night! Our family was being chased through the woods and wolves ate each one of them. I was the only one left at the end. I felt so cold when I woke up. Then I looked and Madeline was standing next to my bed and staring at me! Oh my gosh. She's sooo creepy! Why was she doing that?

Love,
Ilyusha

Madeline is a really strange kid. I tried to give her new toys to play with today. I even tried to give her the new toys that we've received from Ms. Yume, Ms. Bird, and Ms. Jadaria. However, she seems sort of picky and not very excited about them.

I also am not sure if I imagined this, but I think I saw Madeline eating a fly yesterday. I'll tell Ms. DiYanni if I see it again; I don't think it's healthy to allow her to eat such things.

Sincerely,
Momo DeVitre.

Unfortunately, I haven't taken Madeline to the Eden Project shop in quite a while. She is usually quite subdued, but she seems even more silent lately... Does she miss the interaction with the other children? Ilyusha is too old for her right now, and they have trouble getting along, much less playing together. Perhaps it's time I take her back to meet the other children again.

Momo and Ilyusha have both told me that Madeline has started eating insects as well. Is this some sort of characteristic linked to her past identity? I am not certain, but I have not yet witnessed it myself.

After shopping yesterday, I went to deliver presents to Ms. Bird and Ms. Feather. I hope that Madeline will be able to become friends with such lovely children.

Regards,
DiYanni

Geeze! It's Friday the 13th today. I always get so superstitious on these days. Mama thinks it's silly and tells me to grow up, but bad things do happen on these kinda days! For example, when I was doing my arithmetic today, I suddenly got all of these chills, like something wasn't right. Then when I looked, Madeline was standing right behind me, eating a moth!! It was so freaky! I told Mama about it, but she doesn't believe me.

Love,
Ilyusha

"Whee!" Alex squeaked, clapping his hands wildly. "Fasttuur!"

Feather complied, running at an even faster pace as she zoomed down the street in the direction of DiYanni's house. Alexander cheered her on, safely tucked inside of her arms.

In no time at all, the pair reached the porch of the woman's house. Feather set Alex down, and he toddled to the door, setting a box tightly wrapped in twine down in the doorway. He giggled, then ran back to his mother, and the two set down the street once more.

Inside the box was a delicious pear covered in some sort of sweet sauce. There was also a note, which read:

"Hey Madeline, DiYanni! Alex and I were strolling through town today, and found this wonderful pastry shop! There were all sorts of treats, and Alex picked this one out for Madeline! I hope she likes it!

The one who can do magic...I haven't seen him in a while. It's because Mother hasn't allowed me. We know that others don't like me, but I think he should be Ok. I don't think I need them, really. But it's nice at times. For now I need to keep hiding or the others will see me and become scared. This is what Mother said. That's why. Even if it's silly, I'll do it so Mother won't worry about the others being scared of me.

Good heavens, have I been swamped with work! With the deadlines soon approaching for my next book to be published, I hardly know how to remain sane. Thankfully Ilyusha and Momo have both been cooperative during the last week, helping me to clean the house or care for Madeline's few needs.

In regards to Madeline, I am concerned. She appears to be fine, but sometimes I wonder if she's happier when she's able to play with other children her age. Ms. Feather brought a lovely treat for Madeline today, but she didn't seem interested. How strange for a child her age to dislike sweets!

DiYanni

I don't care what Mama says anymore, Madeline is not normal at all! I mean, it's pretty obvious from the way she looks. Those legs growing out of her back are really weird. I wonder what they're supposed to do. But I noticed that when Madeline is mad or excited or something like that, it doesn't show on her face, but she'll move her legs differently.

When Momo took me to the library today, she made me check out a book on spiders so that I can learn more about Madeline. But she told me I also have to write a book report when I'm done! It's so unfair. I hope Madeline has to write a book report on me, too.

Love,
Ilyusha

Momo DeVitre

Geeze, would you imagine the nerve of that Ilyusha! He whined on the whole way to and from the library. Even Madeline was quieter than he was, and she's much younger. I admit it's sort of unnatural the way she watches people without saying anything...Sometimes I wonder if she's thinking about eating people, the way she looks at them. Lady DiYanni, as usual, seems pretty oblivious about these things. She's busy finishing her next book, but promises that she'll take better care of us as soon as it's done.

Sincerely,
Momo DeVitre.

Ivy trekked up the walk way to what she hoped was Lady DiYanni's home. Reaching the front door she opened her messanger bag and carefully pulled out an ornate black laquer box. She taped a note to the top of it and placed it in front of the door. She grinned slightly at the empty house before walking back away from the house.

The note read...
Hello Lady DiYanni, Lady Madeline,
I was browsing through some shops the other day and stumbled upon this adorbale place called "The Four Worlds". In it I found this gorgeous bauble that I thought suited Madeline well. I hope she enjoys it, I know kids aren't thrilled by things that can't be used as toys, but hopefully she'll like it enough. ^_^

Mother seems tired lately. I mean, if I watch her long enough, she'll be scared. I'll try it some more today...

There was another incident with Madeline the other day. I was combing my hair, and I saw her in my mirror. She was standing behind me, outside of my door, but she was watching me. I asked her why she didn't go play with her dolls or something and leave me alone. Then she said, "Broke them." Can you believe it?

Love,
Ilyusha

Ilyusha is still working on his book report about spiders. I know that Madeline can't understand it yet, but maybe she'll know somehow that this little project was designed 'specially for her. Lady DiYanni thought it was a good idea when I spoke to her briefly the other day.

Unfortunately, that's another problem. Lady DiYanni is still working like mad on that book of her's, but she's already turned in the draft to her editor! Geeze, that woman is such a procrastinator at times. We'll hope that Madeline doesn't become the same way.

Sincerely,
Momo DeVitre

Teagan double checked the address, a bit worried someone might have heard him, or that he'd gotten it wrong. "Oh come on" Roscoe whined, out of patience with the child. After all, they'd just spent the entire day wandering around town just so he could find a gift, and now he was too much of a coward to leave it! The lemur shot him an annoyed look, setting the package he carried down beside the door, out of the way incase it opened outward. "Alright, you left it, can we please get out of here now?" the older boy growled. Teagan sighed, he wasn't going to lay off, was he? "Fine" he agreed, nearly forgetting the note, "One second" he added, kneeling to tuck a fold piece of paper underneath it, in hopes the wind wouldn't blow it away. "Alright, now we can g- Hey! Wait for me!" the boy called, chasing after his older sibling.

The Note
I know you don't really like me, and I really can't blame you. I'm sorry about what happened a while ago, Momma says it was a stupid mistake, but even if it was a mistake I'm still sorry it happened. I hope you'll forgive me, maybe we can be friends? I found this little toy when I was in the city with my brother, I thought you might like it.

Been a long time since I have seen the others. I miss them, a little. Even the loud one, and the dangerous one...and the others... Mother says she will take me again soon, but she has said that a lot in the past, too, when we did not go. Many of them have sent me gifts, although I haven't seen them. I wonder if they miss me...?

The sixth day of the sixth month! Oh, my... We'll have to remember to be cautious today. That 6 is such an unlucky number for me. I know it's not good for someone studying the natural sciences to be so superstitious, but I really think there's some justification for my behavior!

Madeline has been getting along well lately, but I wonder if she needs more sunlight. Her skin is incredibly pale and does not look healthy at all. Perhaps I should take her to the doctor again and see if she has some sort of pigmentation problem?

DiYanni

Madeline wanted me to tie her shoes for her today, so I said I would help her. When I bent down to look, her shoes weren't untied at all! I asked what she was asking, because maybe I misunderstood. But then she told me that she wanted me to retie them, I think. I feel that she is a bad kid.

Love,
Ilyusha

A large, orange and green bird flits overhead, looking around. He ruffles his feathers, clicks his beak, then lands on the mailbox - depositing a neat little scroll, pricked overall with clawmarks.

Inside the scroll is

Er, hi! You don't know me - my name is Lucien. I'm one of Jadaria's other adopted 'kids.' She's sick right now, but has a task that the Eden people want her to do... I asked her, and she said that you might be a good person to ask.

The thing is, Kajika has to put a puzzle together. He really needs friends, too, so... I figured I'd invite you over. You don't have to, but it would be very interesting and kind if you would let Madeline come and play with him.

Mother became ill? 'Yusha told me she has always been this way. She has always been so ill? I try to give her some of my moths to make her feel better; they always help me when I feel unwell. But she seemed to become even worse when she saw them. Have I done this?

Lady DiYanni

My allergies have been quite terrible lately. Sometimes I don't even feel like rising from my bed. It's far past the time for flowers to bloom, so I imagine that our house may have become victim of a mold infestation or something of that sort. Momo promised to call a company to look for mold and have it removed. Madeline should be happy about this, though. I'll be taking her out more often now so that I can get away from the house and rid myself of this blasted sneezing.

Regards,
DiYanni

Mama's gotten real lazy lately. She says to leave her alone in her bed all the time. Momo warned her she'd get fat if she didn't move 'round some more. Momo also said that our house may be full of bad things that make Mama not feel well. I think that bad thing is probably Madeline and the scary feelings she gives people.

Love,
Ilyusha

Madeline is behaving as usual, so I shouldn't complain...but there is something truly unnatural about that little girl. She won't take dolls, she won't take any sweet foods. But when I check up on her, she's always putting some dust and lint in a jar or chasing after bugs. Something tells me she's not nearly as cute as Lady DiYanni pretends she is.

The weather has been very beautiful and warm lately, so I've tried to take Madeline out for walks. This is the thing she's been most resistant to. She absolutely abhors walking out in the sun and always pulls me under the shade of trees or buildings.

I wonder if we should take her to see a doctor...

Sincerely,
Momo DeVitre.

Feels bad. Hot. All places mother takes me are warm and icky. Feel sick all the time now. Even at night, so hot, like I can't get away from it. Favorite place is under bed now. Feels better there, cool, and lots of pretty things to look at. Mother gets maddest when she finds me there. Tells me it's "dirty" and should find 'nother place. Must surely be mad.

That child! The heat has been bad this summer, but I think that the weather has driven Madeline into the worst sort of fit. She was always such a quietly obedient girl before, but now she throws the worst fits when I try to take her out with me on errands. Those heavy black clothes she prefers to wear also don't help her stay cool, but she clings to them so forcefully and won't allow me to put on her any of the bright, colorful sundresses that our friends have been sending. When I go to the clothing store next time, I will have to remember to find an umbrella so she walk around outside a little more comfortably.

Regards,
DiYanni

Madeline's such a terrible brat! Where did she learn such bad manners? And Mama never does anything to her! It's so unfair. I went upstairs to take my bath last night and Madeline was sitting in the dark in the tub, which she had filled with really cold water. It wasn't just the usual creepy stuff that bothered me. I had school in the morning, so I really needed to take a bath. So I told her she had better get out and she refused! I grabbed her and tried to pull her out and she refused to let go of the sides of the tub. We made a really big mess in the bathroom and Mama blamed ME!

I don't like the hot summer, either, but that doesn't mean I can hog the bath. We've been having lotsa fights, but maybe Madeline is the one who needs to change, not me. I've been plenty patient with her and all of her really weird habits, so it's time that she tries to change, I think.

Love,
Ilyusha
