A'Hallei scrubbed his dishes in silence, listening to the splashing as his companion bathed, and of the creek tumbling over the rocks. His long ears picked up the songs of the birds in the trees, of the skitterish noises of the leaves in the underbrush, and the groan of old trees in the wind. Underneath it all, he heard the subdued murmer of the voices in his mind, placated momentarily by the serenity and the task at hand. He was glad he tied up his hair earlier, as the bun kept the long strands free of his face and hands, something important while working. He'd nearly pulled his own scalp off numerous times after sitting up rapidly during the night to realise he'd been laying on his hair, or stepping on it, or god forbid, having it become snagged and hopelessly entangled.

A'Hallei tsked in irritation before he realized he hadn't been watching to make sure Catzi was all right, still cognant and concious despite her injuries. She had long hair as well, well kept hair. Luminous green eyes glanced up and caught her form and very little could prove to tear them away.

She was, he surmised, watching a fish. Her side to him, he could see the long waves of hair cascade like an auburn waterfall over her shoulders, brought to life by the droplets catching the light and bouncing it off, as if she had woven sequins in those locks. Motionless for a while, her eyes cast to the creek waters, he looked her over, examining her body for other wounds he had not detected before.
She facinated him.

The crooked fork dislodged from his hands and sunk to the violet creek bed, diverting his attention back to the task at hand. He had washed that morning, and his hair already was fully dried. He had little desire to repeat the experience so soon.
He whipped the dishes in the air to fling the water droplets from them and headed upstream to sit on the bank and wait for his companion to finish. His eyes were in the canopy, drawn to the shifting greens that molded light and shadows into different shapes. He could watch this for hours, just to lose himself in the shapes and leave everyone and everything else behind.

Mid washing her hair the most beautiful fish swam by all pale tan and gold. It seemed to her to almost mimic a pearl, it was slightly translucent in it’s color. It intrigued her a great deal and pulling her hair to her back she paused and watched the small thing swim by. Leaning in a little her hair fell in a veil to her side and scared the fish, it then dug into the river bed beneath it and became invisible to her eyes. She grin widely and studied the poor creature as it slowly reemerged and nearly laughed as she heard something drop into the water down the river toward were A`Hallei was. It was only then did she realize that she might be making him uncomfortable and feeling slightly guilty she hurried washing and made her way back to her now drying cloths.

Looking around she now realized her second error, the fact that she had indeed washed her only pair of clothing and was now without. Thinking ahead just in case he really was uncomfortable with her nudity Cat pulled the parts of her hair closet to her front over her shoulders and made a sort of loose veil. Looking down she knew that there was little to nothing she could do with other parts of her body and just let it go hoping her preemptive measures would be enough. Coughing awkwardly to gain A`Hallei attention she asked quietly “Do you happen to have something I could wear while my cloths dry?”

A'Hallei heard the laughter somewhere far away. It barely penetrated the haze of his thoughts, nor at first did it register in the eyes transfixed on the foliage above him. He sat on his knees, sunken into a rather diminuative posture. Dappled in the light here, he seemed smaller somehow, and incurably alone, even when in the company of another. Inside, the pale boy was lost, as though someone switched a fog machine on in his brain. Everything swam in and out of focus, and something like the dappled pattern of leaves ahead took on an entirely new meaning.

A cough, unlike the sharp rasp of before. Slowly, he turned to hear it better, eyes still focused far away. As she spoke, awareness crept in on him again, bringing back his luminous green gaze into sharp alert focus. He stared at her, resembling aphrodite with her hair about her.
"Do you happen to have something I could wear while my clothes dry?" She asked, and he wondered briefly if it was to spare him some decency, or if she was getting cold from the way it was heading into the evening.

The ghostly boy unfolded his long limbs from the position he was in and scooped up the nearby blanket in a single motion. He unfolded the legnth of it as he approached, before winging it around, letting it flare out like a matador's cape before settling it protectively over her shoulders. The blanket soaked the moisture beading off of her like a sponge. He gave her arms a light squeaze and the faintest of shy smiles before backing away respectfully.
"A'Hallei likes Catzi's voice." He said quietly, scooping up her wet clothes. It would be easier to hang them to dry on low lying tree branches here, but that would mean she would have to remain err...exposed away from the caves for a while. Not that A'Hallei expected any other visitors.

He was very fluid, and held a sort of grace about him that amazed her. She suddenly thought Kenna was a very stupid boy to have given up this caring graceful child like young man before her. And with that thought held tightly in her mind she grined back at A`Hallei as he gave her a faint smile and a comforting hug. With the blanket wrapped around her she realized that she had felt slightly cold and now felt a happy warmth fill through her. It absorbed the stubborn water droplets clinging to her and held in the heat that must have been rolling off her in waves with nothing to stop it. And this is why women aren’t supposed to have their hair electronically removed. Her subconscious jibed her.

It was quickly distracted though as A`Hallei spoke. "A'Hallei likes Catzi's voice."

The fact that he suddenly spoke in third person alluded Cat for the moment because of the compliment. She smiled at him and though slightly perplexed as to why he brought it up she felt honored by the words in any event. She hadn’t realized she had been humming.

“Thank you.” She grinned. “I enjoy your voice too.” Snuggling into the warmth of the blanket Catzi looked up into the green canopy that A`Hallei had to intently been staring at before and began to think of another place and another time. And most of all another boy, that had stayed with her deep in another wood all alone like fey accustomed solely to nature. For a moment she wondered where he was, and if the two of them she had set up together had been happy in their chosen life. Catzi stared at the fluctuating green and become almost transfixed.

“We should most likely get going.” She said her eyes stuck on the trees, with a distant smile. Then slowly she pulled her eyes away from the green light show to lock again with A`Hallei’s face.

He nodded in agreement to her request and continued to back up, before turning to return to the quartz caves. He slowly wrung her clothes in his bare hands, tightening the white grip on the garments in much the same way his claws so easily closed over the necks of those who so unfortunately found cause to distress him. As this thought took him, another cropped up. Would A'Hallei have killed someone who had hurt Makenna? If his mind had not snapped back into focus, would he have strangled fully the man before the store? If the woman who fell into his cave had been any other, would he have ended her life as swiftly as she entered his? The answer came with frightening truth. Yes.

He stopped short, suddenly, limbs mysteriously unresponsive. Inside himself, a young child's voice wailed in distress, but the only outward sign was the complete paralyzation of his body that lasted but a single moment, almost too short to notice.

"Vulnerabilities." A'Hallei growled dangerously low, a warning to his body to keep moving. Death did not bother him. Or, it should not bother him. Everyone died, it was simply a matter of when. Only, the latter two deaths would hold no meaning for him, no purpose or reason. The first was sufficent reasoning, up until a few days ago. Would he have killed for Makenna? Yes. Would he do it for someone in the future? Perhaps. It all depended on who wanted him to, and whether or not it was an accident.
Like murder was ever an accident.

Any tighter a grip on the clothes and he would have twisted them so far as to rip.

He stopped to ensure Catzi was keeping up, his mind shifted to the present task at hand. He released the death grip on the garment and shook it out to hang in his hands. He waited for her to catch up before continuing. The trip back to the caves was uneventful afterward, and some innovative use of the shelves in the caves ensured his companion's clothes would hang in the wind that wisked in front of the cave. His fire was but embers now. He turned to the lovely woman who fell into his company earlier that day.

"As the dawn breaks, Catzi will be escorted to forest's edge or closest to residence." His duty would be obligated and he would return back to his quartz haven in the woods with no one the wiser to his whereabouts.

It had been a while since Catzi had left A'Hallei to his solitude, but it was filled now with a ball of tan fluff that depended on him to survive. He had found a slain mountain lion with one surviving cub. The mother was now skinned and spread upon his bed, but the cub was doing well, plodding along after A'Hallei on most of his outings.

However, a while back he had noticed the couger cub, yet unnamed, had dropped back. A quick return found the tired cub laying curled in a patch of grass, exhausted. He now held the young kitten in his arms, debating with himself to continue his search for food, or to take the baby home. Normally bright golden eyes were squinted shut as the cub slept, happily in her foster father's lap. Claws that could so easily rend flesh apart gently teased at the soft fur on the couger's neck.

Head leaned down, A'Hallei thought in silence, his long cloud white hair falling about him like a silver waterfall, glimmering against his highly buffed armor. It draped even over the sleeping bundle in his arms, tangling slightly in small paws. Neon green eyes were focused on the little breathing creature. Attatched he had grown already to the small animal.

Nakshidil slid through the woods, sighing. It had been a long time since she'd had so much time to herself. It was pleasant to be able to relax. The teenager's hair was plaited neatly, falling down her body in ebony waves, and her eyes were shut. She moved slowly, feeling for each step before moving. She wanted to try and find her way back to her favorite spot, but she knew already that she was lost. Horribly lost.

A branch cracked underfoot, and she opened her eyes finally, giving up. Forest green eyes took in the area, trying to place everything. The sun could barely be seen through the thick canopy, so that the shadows played games with the mind. It was so dark.

And so alive. Everything around her had a life of its own that she missed. She moved deeper into the forest, in a direction that looked... well... like it went somewhere? She couldn't tell you which way she had come from. She was moving, and something caught her eye. A silver-white lump? She moved closer, curious, trying not to make too much noise.

Even in the supposed solitude of the deep woods, A'Hallei knew he was never truly alone. From the wail of the cicadas in the summer, to the potential stalking of a much more dangerous entity, one always had to be alert in the forest. The more wild creatures inhabited the deep woods, chased by human presence from the outskirts. Still, many a human followed them in.

A'Hallei had lived out here more or less succesfully for months, and even while seemingly in intense concentration, his senses were peeled for movements, sounds, and scents around him. He heard a branch snap somewhere off toward his left, but that was hardly unusual. His long ears, stretched throughout his childhood worked wonders to enhance his hearing.

The wind gusted strongly, blowing the foliage undertoe around, effectively masking the sounds of her approach. For now, he had not noticed her, she hadn't ventured close enough. A'Hallei sighed heavily, his shoulders curling inward slightly.

Nakshidil made a soft noise. Tried to bring the lumps attention to her. It looked like a human, but she could hardly remember someone so pale... Well, Mekt, but he didn't have such long silver hair. She slipped to her knees, a bit away from the creature. "Hello?"

Mistake, big mistake. A'Hallei was on his feet the moment she made the soft noise in her throat. It was a fluid, almost inhuman display of grace as he leapt from a sitting position to being perched on the top of a rock behind him. His small bundle had hardly shifted, curled still in the nook of his arm, held away from the view of the green eyed nymph before him.

Livid neon green eyes beamed onto her, meeting her much darker gaze. He didn't even notice at first she was completely nude, he just assessed first that she was human, and secondly that she was a young female. The rest fell in afterward as he took her in, calmed slightly.

It was the second time a long haired woman had suprised him, a rather bizarre trend. She too looked strangely familiar, and his eyes narrowed as he forced himself to recall her features. The most notably was the long, long black hair.

Sam--

He bit off that train of thought before it could recall the shadowy other to his childhood, of wavy ebony tresses and green eyes, before he could even bring up the dark one's name. This was a girl, a pink skinned girl.
She was on her knees, and spoke softly,
"Hello?" She said to him. A'Hallei's frown abated slightly. He had a dozen questions he could ask, who are you, why are you here, how did you find me, what do you want? However, all that was really none of his business. She wasn't a poacher and had every right to wander the woods as he.

So instead, he offered a warning, "Dangerous by yourself." His voice was deeper than he remembered, dropping from the high alto of his youth to a milk soft tenor.

Nakshidil's green eyes went wide with awe as she saw him move. He moved like an animal, graceful. She kept still, unthreatening. The other's voice was soft. Low. "It is dangerous." she agreed. "I got lost. I'm trying to find my way out. I was being silly. Then I saw you. You weren't moving."

Eerie familiarity. She knew this man. -KNEW- him. A shadow from her childhood? "My name is Nakshidil. Nakkie. Who are you?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 07, 2006 2:45 pm

A'Hallei's lips pursed as she spoke, but he kept his intense gaze focused on her. She kept herself low to the ground, and crouched. While that was a dangerous position for a predator to take, humans were much slower when ground borne, usually. Another woman who got lost, not althogether an unusual occurance out here. How people managed to wind up further and further from their destination was beyond him. His natural reaction upon seeing he was entering denser growth would be to 180 and head back.

Usually, he was more suspicious, but the fact he could almost recognized her prompted him to be a little more open. Straightening up to his full, more imposing height, he accidentally rocked the furry lump in his arm.
"A'Hallei." He answered swiftly, his ears twitching as he noticed the cub had awakened, and was blinking large golden eyes at him. The kitten stretched out and draped claws over his arm, attempting to crawl free of his grip and explore. Furry paws waved in her view as A'Hallei unsuccessfully tried to scoop the cub back out of view. The cup released a squeak, irritated with his attempts to keep her out of view.

"Direction? I can lead out." He said swiftly, implying he would show her the way to return home. He didn't seem phased at all that she was in normal society, and yet bare as the day she had entered this world.

Nakshidil stood slowly, becoming uncomfortable in her crouch. "A'Hallei." she repeated. She recognized the name. "You are one of Dian's adoptees?" she asked, curious. She'd heard stories of him. When she saw the cub, her eyes widened. "So cute!" she whispered. "Can I see?" she asked, holding out her arms. Caution was flung to the wind, the sight of the cub being her undoing. She didn't even hear his invitation to lead her out.

Dian. The name was familiar to him as well. It had all been so long ago. He knew the word adoptees and tried to think. Was she speaking of the darkish skinned man with orange hair and the fluffy tail? It only made sense. He nodded slightly, the wind picking up and lifting his hair behind him, sending the silver strands scattering in the wind.

He continued to try to place her, when like a sledgehammer it hit him. Young girl, in silk clothes with long hair. She asked, she asked him to marry her! Nakshidil! His eyes widened at her, at how she had grown. It was only then that he looked her over fully, noticing how she was smudged with dirt in various places from her trek bare through the woods.

The kitten refused to wait while he reminisced and continued to try to climb out of his arms. A'Hallei jumped from his perch to the ground before Nakshidil, startling the kitten to release another squeak. The cougar was suddenly face to face with a young unfamiliar woman, and stared at her with wide golden eyes. The fluffy kitten was suprised into stillness, though not completely afraid as she was still in A'Hallei's sure grip.

"Nakshidil." He said, looking at her, "Infi?"

When the man-boy jumped from the trees, Nakshidil gasped in surprise. Her eyes landed on the kitten and she melted, holding out her hand carefully. Let the kitten come to her. "Yes." she said, looking up at the tall teenager. "Infi is my mother."
