Gunslinger_Harrison Appoloin Aliens always disturbed me sexually. Hell, anything Giger disturbes me sexually. I've always thought of Newt as a representation of Riply's deceased daughter. Well, the way the Alien looked really tapped into peoples deepest fears, the fact that it looked very sexual oriented really freaks people out. That's why they decided to that design for the Alien. Also, the fact that it has so many insect qualities frightens people, it was slimy, they have bug hive qualities, and they have no eyes. For some reason, bugs tend to scare people. Its really a combination of the bugs and the environments. You see a hole that looks sexual and then a bug pops out. Thats what really gets me.

Well, the thing that made the first Alien so scary was the fact that it didn't let you see everything. This was of course was based on the idea that "it's what you don't see that scares you," and "once you've seen something, it's not that scary anymore." So in order to keep the audience frightened throughout the entire movie they gave the Alien very little screen time, and the seens where you did see it were very brief, and they kept the camera very tight, so you could only see a very small portion of the Alien, namely it's head. So, you never got a good look at it until near the end of the movie. Also, another reason it was so scary was the fact that it progressed so slowly. This is of course one of the best ways of building suspense. People were worried that the Alien was just going to pop out at any moment. The thing that made Alien so much more suspensful than most Horror movies was the fact that it progressed so much more slowly than other Horror films. The thing is people can only take so much until they really start to get worried. The tension and suspense lasted so long that the audience just couldn't help but be worried and frightened. The best example would have to be the air duct seen.

That combined with the strobe lights they used really causes alot of stress on the viewer. If they come out with another alien movie it should be more horror orientated than action.

Scott and Cameron are two of the greatest directors of our time. And took the Alien idea down two different, but equally enjoyable paths.
Alien3 I am not so sure about, although I absolutely adore Lynch's other work, there was something about this one that got my goat and I wasn't able to enjoy it.
There are only three Alien movies......only three....

And what do you mean when you say that there is only three Alien movies. Resurrection dosent count?

What the hell is Alien:Resurrection? I had never heard of that being made and if it was I sure think it would be so totally bollocks that people would deny its very existence.

I saw it at a younger age too, but I wasn't paying enough attention so it didn't scare me. But AVP does definetly suck compare to it. I like how in the first one there was one alien, in the second there were loads, and there were loads in the rest. But the problem with more aliens is more die so it doesn't make them look as powerful and frightening as they were in the first.

Predator was also a good series, different to Alien in a way, but I think I prefer Alien.
