Verde nodded in understanding, jotting down the information upon the make-believe notepad of her mind.

"Very interesting," she muttered. "You said that we're Jumi, right? What are they, exactly?"

Now that Yeine had explained a little about the cores, the young Jumi was interested! And whenever she got interested in a subject, she would go all-out researching on it. She had to know more, and the nearest source of information was... well, the girl standing next to her. She seemed knowledgeable about the subject enough, and whatever wasn't said could be easily pulled up on the internet or discovered through other sources. Looking up at the older girl with hopeful eyes, Verde forced a goofy grin.

Taking the nod as a "yes, the weather's nice outside", Mayu returned the nod with one of her own. Oh, if only she was better with small talk! She needed to make some new friends in this place -- she couldn't stay confined in her little circle all the time. She needed some new people to talk to!

What was a Jumi? Verde might as well have asked why the sky was blue, or what plastic was made of. Sure, there was an answer for all of those questions, but if Ying knew them she would be a bookworm, not a lady. Still, she had to try and answer at least. "Um... well, Jumi are people. Like us, basically. The big difference between humans and Jumi is that Jumi have cores."

There was more to it than that, but Ying wasn't even going to try to get clearer for fear of muddling things more. "You know, you should really go to Etansel and ask Crystal. She'd probably know more than me."

"That's it!" Yeine all but shouted, recognizing a familiar stretch of hall. The walls around them had bulletin boards covered with artwork, and there was a window in a nearby door. "That's where we left Karan and Xue. I'm sure of it."

"Etansel," Verde nodded, making mental note of the name. She would leave the poor girl alone for now, and she had already gotten all the information she needed. At least, an ample amount -- she would have to find this "Crystal" and pump her of answers as well.

"Whoa!"

Mayu nearly jumped at the sudden outburst, quite startled by the change in volume of Yeine's voice. Taking a moment to regain her footing, the child looked around the hallway in wonder. It was like an art museum, almost, except without the stale, cold air and the dim lighting!

"Guess we didn't need a map after all," she said, nodding in approval. "So what do we do now that we're here? Wait for the class to end, or go straight in?"

Without waiting for a reply, Mayu marched right up to the door, peering into the window. Hovering her hand above the handle of the door, she glanced back at the others, waiting for either a yea or a nay.

Finally the barrage of questions had ceased, and Ying's attention was free enough to notice where they were. The art-covered boards were certainly familiar. "Oh hey, we made it! Awesome job, Yeinie!"

Yeine blushed slightly and nodded, not really wanting to take any credit. However the mention of barging in made her bristle slightly. Didn't any of them have any manners? First distrupting a class and leaving it in the middle, then barging into someone else's class unannounced... it was unacceptable!

"Let's go already," Ying answered energetically. She was bored of just wandering around.

"We can't just barge in," Yeine interjected.

Yin? Yei? confused

A small pale face peeked out of one of the lower windows with a curious expression. Didn't Yin and Yei go to a different place? question

"Of course we can!" Mayu announced majestically before shoving open the door with all the gracefulness of a rock. The door in speaking slammed against the wall with a loud crash, causing a few of the pictures in the hallway to flutter down from their places. Oh, would she get an earful for this if Kimiko found out, barging into a completely alien classroom without permission -- but she was having fun!

"I think we could have done that without the dramatics," Verde sighed, retrieving the pictures that had fallen from the walls and pinning them back up in their places to the best of their ability -- as she was a small girl, and some of them had been too high up for her to reach.

"" Miroku grinned, parading cheerfully into the room before taking a seat next to a rather frightened-looking girl with pigtails who had been fingerpainting cheerfully prior to the arrival of the raucous group.

Yeine winced as the door flew open, and rushed forward to assess the damage. It was mostly as she had imagined. The teacher didn't seem to be there, but the students were staring with varied degrees of bewilderment, and artwork was strewn everywhere. Verde had already started to pick it up, and the Cathar quickly bent down to help.

"Whoa," Ying mouthed. Even she wouldn't have done that. But that was mostly because she was distracted, and Mayu beat her to the punch. Not to be outdone, she stepped inside and surveyed the class with a critical view. The teacher was gone, so they shouldn't have too much problem blending in. But that would be boring.

Before any master plans could be devised, one of the students was up on his feet, horrified. "What are you DOING here?" Karan asked, looking at the troop of girls. Wait- didn't he know that one?

"Let's find somewhere to sit!" Mayu exclaimed, qutie effectively ignoring Karan's question as she paced about the room in search of unclaimed stools for her and her traveling companions. With a critical eye, she dragged four heavy stools to the front of the class and seated herself upon one of them. Waving a hand towards the other three, she knocked on the stools excitedly -- just in case they hadn't noticed her hard at work before dragging them over to the front of the room.

After deciding that she had done a good enough job, Verde turned from the walls and walked into the room slowly, glancing about the surprised faces with raised brows. Pushing past the people who had begun to rise to get a better look at these intruders, the Jumi sat herself upon one of the stools, smoothing out the wrinkles that her skirt had gained amidst the confusion.

"Take a seat," she said, signalling to Ying and Yeine with a nod. "The stools here are quite.. comfy."

Not at all thrilled by being passed over, Karan marched over to the gaggle of girls, stopping in front of Ying and pointing at her accusingly. "How come you have to come in and ruin my class? Weren't you somewhere else? Can't we have some fun without you girls barging in on it?"

"Whoa, slow down!" Eyes wide, Ying held up her hands, as if Karan was pointing a gun at her rather than a finger. "Just chill out, Karan-kun. Our class was boring. And this one sounded fun. That's all there is to it."

"We can stay out of the way," Yeine added. Then again, considering the lack of consideration they had displayed already, she doubted it. She could at least stay out of the way, and went to join the others on the stools.

Throwing up his hands, Karan almost returned to his seat, when he spotted a third familiar face. "Mayu? You're Mayu, right?"

"Boring as all hel--ck," Mayu added, stumbling over the curse word. She had to uphold her image -- or at least, what was left of it.

"It looks like Yeine and I will be picking up after you two all class period," Verde spoke up, faking a cough. An attempt at humor, at best. Of course, she had been the one to formulate the escape plan in the first place, so she couldn't really speak for herself.

Ignoring her sister's comment, Mayu looked up at the unfamiliar-looking boy.

"Yes, Mayu," she nodded, frownling slightly. How did these people know her? It had been Paestri, then Demare, and now..?
PostPosted: Thu Oct 26, 2006 9:30 pm

"Agreed," Yeine replied to Verde's joke, though there was no trace of humor in the Cathar's voice. As wonderful as Ying was, sometimes it took a little looking to make sure she didn't go nuts over something or someone. And that got tiring quickly.

Ignoring pretty much everything, Ying sat down between Mayu and Yeine and put her hands in her lap. Now she almost hoped that the teacher would be back soon, so that they would get to do something fun!

It was her! Smiling a little, Karan offered his hand cordially. "I thought so! You know, I haven't found out anything else about the house lately, but I really think we were right before. Something's weird."

If it was awkward when a stranger came up to you exclaiming your name, it was even more awkward when they began talking about an event that you couldn't recall.

"Excuse me," she said, "a house? What house?"

Mayu was thoroughly confused by now, and showed it.

Responding with a quiet nod, Verde swung her legs back and forth as she looked about the room. It was a bit embarassing, yet intriguing, to be one of the "mature ones" in the group, especially when one was younger than the "childish ones".

Since Mayu was confused, Karan felt he should be confused too. But he wasn't sure why she was confused, which only confused him further. Either way, it was a whole lot of confusion. "Don't you remember? We were at the-" Karan looked around, making sure no one was listening. "The Headquarters. And we were trying to see why the house always looked so neat and everything even though no one was living there. But nothing happened."

How could she not remember that? It was still heavy on Karan's mind, the mystery of the strange house they used as Headquarters.

Catching Verde's boredom, Yeine scooted over a little. "Do you like arts and crafts too, Verde?"

Mayu shook her head slowly after absorbing in all of that information. It was a bit embarassing, having to explain to these people who were certain they knew her that she remembered nothing about them. Perhaps she had met them before (as it turned out just that way on one occasion), but she didn't remember a thing about this boy at the moment.

"Maybe it was another Mayu?" she suggested, with a slight shrug.

"I don't know," Verde replied, looking up at Yeine. "I've never tried it, though I have read about it. And you?"

Her attention switched to a menacing-looking papier-maché mask which was staring down at them from one of the cabinets for a slight moment, then back up at the pink-haired one.

"Intriguing," the Jumi muttered, shivering slightly.

"Another Mayu with a collar of flower petals? Not likely."

Karan stared at her for a moment before giving a derisive snort. What reason could he possibly have for lying about something like that? It wasn't like he was a stalker. He HAD met her, he knew it! And if she was pretending not to remember for whatever reason, then maybe she wasn't worth his effort to try and convince her otherwise. Maybe she was just like all of the other girls.

But she had seemed nice at the time.

"I don't get much chance," Yeine admitted. "Usually I'm studying or training, and when I do have free time I try to help Miss DS. But I know Karan likes to draw, and so does Xue. And if they like it, there has to be something fun about it."

She caught the Jumi's gaze and followed it to the mask, where she too shivered. "But I hope we're not doing that today."

"I thought it looked neat," Ying piped up. "But something prettier might be nice too."

"It's possible," Mayu replied, frowning slightly. "I might have known you before, but it's been a long time! I could hardly remember my mom and siblings when I first saw them!"

Looking to Verde, the Legend tugged on her arm with a pleading look. "Right?" she asked, desperate to defend her case. "I could hardly remember you guys at all!"

"It does, I suppose," Verde said in response to Yeine.
"I've read about art techniques, but I've never gotten a chance to test them out."

Looking up to Mayu with a disaffected glance, and then to Karan, the Jumi closed her eyes for a moment and then nodded.

"She was gone for a while," Verde said, patting her sister on the hand, "and when she came back, she could hardly remember our names. She also got lost in the city once too, and she knew the entire map by heart before she left."

"Thank you," Mayu said, glad that Verde had stepped up to defend her case as well. She wasn't too fond of being called a liar when she knew she was speaking the truth.
