Gaius waved his arms uselessly as the two tumbled well out of reach. "Wha- Whoa! Careful!" Rushing back around the counter towards them, he pulled Marshall up by an arm. The new kid seemed okay, except a bit wet and sandy. He noticed the guy's eyes widen slightly, staring past both of them, back at where he knew Sophie was, and made a harsh exclamation.

Gaius's ears instantly flattened back as if pained. Looming over the guy, he folded his arms and glowered down at him. "Hey! Watch your language! Can't you see there's a lady here?!"

Sophie had been about to invite Marshall over for some cran-apple or whatever else he prefered to drink, but was interrupted by the arrival of someone new. Really new, Sophie guessed, using the way he stared at her as evidence.

Trying her best not to over-react, she slipped from her seat, resting her hand on the horse-man's shoulder. "It's okay, Gaius: I heard worse language in high school. And besides...I don't think he's used to seeing a half-roo chick." Her glance went back to the newcomer, and although she did not extend a hand in greeting, she made it a point to smile.

"I, uh...guess no one's told you, eh?" she asked, suddenly finding that she wanted the other's help in explaining it to the newcomer, and her hands slid down to clasp Gaius's, gently touching his hoove-like nails. She'd never officially broken someone in before...this was going to be tough.

Marshall akwardly looked up at Gaius, then back to the new kid. He was...Young. Probably younger than Mitchell even. And worst yet? He probably didn't even know what was going on on the island.

"Um...Sorry about...Falling on you..." Marshall said, trying to figure out how to tell this poor kid his fate.

Miller hissed in a manner at the horse man now, "What does that matter!? She's got FUR ON HER! And you're no better!" akwardly he swung the lacrosse stick in an arch as he backed away from the trio shivering in cold fear.

This was NOT what he signed up for. "Wh-what do you mean no one told me... what the hell's going on!? I thought this was lacrosse camp!" His mind raced, it was a bad dream, maybe the flu? The doctors did say that the flu caused minner halucinations and bad dreams. Had to be. But no it couldn't he felt wieght and pressure, pain when the other fell on him.

"Ack! Whoa!" Gaius jumped back, narrowly avoiding getting whacked over the head with the stick the guy was swinging about. With surprising speed he stepped back in, grabbing the end of the stick before the kid could swing it again. "Quit that! You're going to hurt someone!"

He didn't release his grip as he glanced back at the other two, wondering if he should go ahead. Taking a slow breath, he turned back to the panicked guy with a sober expression. "Listen. The truth is, the scientists up at the labs are turning us into animals. It's like those movies where they alter the character's DNA, only this is real. That's why Sophie has fur, and why I have hooves. If you're here... then you're probably a subject too." His ears lowered sympathetically. "I'm sorry."

At the faintest sight of the stick coming her way, Sophie jumped back a good few feet away from the others, giving the boy a scared look. "Hey, now, just because I've got fur doesn't mean it doesn't hurt when someone hits me across the head with a stick thing, eh?" she retorted, though her voice still had a bit of a shake to it.

Listening to Gaius's explanation, she nodded, but wouldn't come any closer now that she recognized the stick as a definite danger. "He's right, y'know...none of us were born looking this way...well, except for Marshall, but that's only because he hasn't started to change, too." Cautiously, she took a step forward, wrapping her arms around Gaius for protection. "Trust me...it's just as weird for me to be this way..."

Marshall had also dodged the stick, and while surprised, was not angry with the young man. It wasn't really his fault for being scared. Hell, Marshall had been on the island for almost two months and he was still scared by some of the transformations.

"So...Um...Sorry that...Uh...Whats your name, kid?" Marshall said akwardly.

Miller stumbled backwards slowly now keeping the stick raised in self defense his mind raceing. Vaccine, flu, hallucinations, but what about the DNA? Was that lab he was at? He closed his eyes shakeing his head furiously trying to sort out what was happening.

He looked up to the girl again trying not to focuse on the fact that she had strange ears and furr on her arms. "Hasn't... hasn't started to change?" He continued to stumble backwards from them, "My names Miller, but wait... that was a vaccine, theres no way, we can't become animals..."

Gaius frowned, not wanting to cause the boy further panic. He seemed pretty high-strung, but then, who wouldn't be after learning such news?

"Hey Miller, it's okay... Well, it's not okay, but don't panic, please? Here..." Stepping forward cautiously, he held out his left arm for Miller to see and pointed to the crook of his elbow. "Did you get a shot about there? That's the one that does this to us. Don't worry, the first one is just a preparation shot, from what I've heard. You won't start changing until about a month from now, if not longer." He shot a look at Marshall and smiled weakly. "Come on, I'll get you some lemonade. It'll help you feel better."

As Sophie listened in on the conversation, she made it a point not to speak much, other than the occasional nod to help Gaius's point. But, she dragged herself back in when she heard of something to do, and looked up to Gaius.

"I'll go get it," she affirmed, desperately wishing to be away from the stares, and before anyone could complain, she bounded on the tips of her toes over to behind the bar, using a hand for leverage as she leaped over the counter without a second thought, then disappeared behind it. She then popped up a moment later, holding an assortment of non-alcholic drinks in her hands.

"So, uhm, Miller...anything in particular you like?"

Marshall coughed akwardly into the side of his fist. The kid barely looked old enough to drive, and yet he was in this s**t-hole. Dandy. Just dandy.

"So...um...Miller...Um...Just let me tell you off the bat...Its...Its not so bad being here...I mean, a lot of us look out for each other and stuff..."

Marshall felt like a moron. They could give him a million dollars, a new car, and a computer and it still wouldn't change the fact he was not only STUCK here, but that he'd never get the normal life he deserved.

"...We'll look out for you." he said. He barely knew the kid, and yet some how felt...guilty.

Miller swayed slightly listening to it all takeing it in slowly. He nodded slowly to Gaius, "Yes but... it was for the flu here on the island they said..." He stumbled slightly grabing his forhead slightly shivering. "Preparation? Month? In a month I'm going to change but... what... why..."

He stumbled slowy after Sophie pointing to a can of coke. "Soda..." he stumbled closer shivering at the sight of the furr but trying to cover it up by rubbing his arms, he wasn't actually cold but he would do anything now to try and be normal around them.

Rather quickly he leaned over the side of the bar rummageing about pulling a bottle of Jack Daniels, he stared at it breifly, then the coke and put both back mumbleing about feeling sick.

He turned to look at Marshall now, "Theres more... but... how? Where you all tricked here as well then?"

Gaius watched symathetically as Miller looked about ready to lose his lunch... or faint. Couldn't blame the kid. It was a hell of a lot to take in so suddenly when this morning he was probably only worrying about washing his hair after going to the beach.

"Yeah, we were all tricked, in one way or another... Some with jobs, some with 'free vacations'... Anything to get us here, it seems. The Lab..." he spat the word, "seems to have mastered the art of deception. So, if you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at them." It was unusual for Gaius to be so vehement, but seeing the look on Miller's face, and what he and Sophie had gone through earlier, it all boiled together into one knot of hate resting heavily in his gut.

Sophie tried to smile as the boy came closer, but only found that he seemed to be even more uneasy around her than the other two. To be fair, they weren't necessarily covered in fur: but that didn't mean that it didn't hurt her feelings a tad bit.

Deciding it best not to hop over the bar again, she shuffled around the counter, taking her seat a good few chairs away and dragging her cran-apple along with her. In most cases, she would've shaken it off, but after all that had happened today, she wasn't quite in the mood to act happy as usual. Finishing off her drink, she rested her arms against the bar, her tail unusually still as she sighed and looked off into the distance, her small muzzle twitching as she apprehended the smells of the area. It was clear she was separating herself from the others, but whatever emotion had spurred it was hard to read from her eyes.

"Yeah, they got me with a free vacation..." Marshall murmered, taking a soda, popping the cap open.

"You see...It works like this...The man who owns this Island is named Dr. Moreau. And, well...He's a mad scientist, to be blunt. He's managed to find a way to fuse Human and Animal DNA...So...He's using it on humans. I'm turning into an Emperor Penguin, Sophie here is turning into a Kangaroo, and Gaius here...We're not sure. Either a Horsie or a Birdy."

Marshall was kind of ashamed to know so much about the island and their fate. Akwardly, he took another sip of his soda. The last thing he wanted to do today was explain what was happening, espically to some one so young.
