Wednesday April 27

I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive myself.

I fed Alexander MEAT cookies. I mean, he did an awesome job cleaning all the sugar off of the counter, and we had a lot of fun finishing up the rest of the kitchen, but when I went and baked the promised cookies, which were chocolate chip, I may add, and he didn't like them! He spat them out and cried "EWW! NASTYNASTY!"

My feelings weren't hurt, of course. I'm used to that kind of reaction. Mind you, my cooking isn't the greatest. I tried making sugar cookies, and peanut butter cookies, and though they tasted fine to me, Alex seemed to hate them more each time I served him a different batch.

...Then, it dawned on me. Of course! He did have the soul of a falcon, right? And falcons were meat-eaters! I reached into the freezer and pulled out a package of steak I HAD been saving for a special occasion. But oh well, this was important.

After cutting the meat into cubes I created a cookie dough batter, as usual, and put the mixture into the oven. Once the cookies were cooked about half-way through I sprinkled the meat on top of each piece of mostly cooked dough, and patiently waited for the timer to go off once more. When it did, I took the steaming tray out of the oven and placed it on the cooling rack.

After about ten minutes I served the 'treats' to Alex. He didn't like them.

No. He loved them. The entire batch of a dozen was gone in about twelve minutes.

Goodbye, prized steak. Hello Alexander's new favorite treat.

This is sounding expensive already.

Peanut cookies are ack!

Choco cookies are ack too!

But chewy meaty cookies are the best! It took a really long time, but mommy got the best little cookies ever! They were all chewy and juicy and YUM!

I hope she makes them tomorrow! I had fun playing with her today, too! We got to clean the kitchen and everything! This weird powdery stuff got all over my nose, and it made me sneeze a whole bunch, but it was pretty funny. Me and mommy laughed a whole lot today. I also found this neat little plushie today, too! It's got wings and a little tail and it looked just like me! Feather says I have to draw Auntie Maz a thank you card, so I guess I'll have to do that tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I met Waven again at that one building place we always go to today! It was really fun because we were playing Zoom with our plushies! But then this weird guy came in and he was all mad and it was really scary but I protected Waven and I felt really proud because I felt like I was doing some good. I think Waven helped calm him down with Nana, though. Then I had to go...and I was really sad because I left some of my plushies behind. Hopefully I'll get them the next time we go stop in and visit?

Mommy says she'll make me more cookies tomorrow if I go to sleep now, so I gotta go now! Bye!

Dusk. A shadow tiptoes to Sky's house, her blood-red eyes glimmering in the darkness. The shadow lays down a package on the doorstep, along with an ocean-blue envelope, with a scent of roses.
Inside the package is a purple glass cage with a purple, cute, hopping, litlte... thing.
Inside the letter is a nicely folded paper with the following text:
Dearest Sky!
I wanted to deliver this to Alex and you the day when he became a baby, but never mind the delay. @__@; Here's my congratulations present! A purple, round, small animal, which cannot speak but perhaps can entertain Alex. Just make sure he doesn't let it out and gobble it up. I think it'd be the best if you didn't let him let it out before he has turned a kid/responsible enough so he doesn't lose it. Don't forget to feed it everyday! wink

Wow. How bizzare.

Everything in the Feather household was actually quiet. Appearing not to be the endless ball of energy he was once thought to be, Alexander had taken to bed in the early hours of the afternoon. Actually, he was eager to sleep.

He was promised a trip to the meadow on the edge of town tomorrow.

Feather stood in the kitchen, gathering some essentials she'd need for the little field trip the two had all planned out tomorrow. 'Meat' cookies she had prepared eariler, some sandwhiches, lemonade, and, of course, some bandages. Alexander was bound to have some kind of accident, seeing as most curious toddlers always found a way to get into some sort of trouble, and for that matter, danger.

In the other room, the boy slept soundly in his cradle, his little goggles resting patiently on his nightstand. A steady breeze tousled his black and golden hair, pouring in from the open balcony door, as usual. It seemed to be a rare occasion when the door WASN'T open. A smile crept across his face as his fragile dream had launched him into a make believe world where strange red cookies ruled.

Once finished packing, Feather placed a backpack full of supplies at the front door. She then walked back to Alex's room, leaning against the doorframe as she watched him, careful not to wake the child up. When he was at peace, so was she. Her features lightened considerably as she observed his still form. He'd need all the rest he could get. Tomorrow was going to be a big day.

And so, yesterday's tomorrow became today.

It hadn't taken long for Feather and Alex to reach their destination, considering the girl was one hell of a bicyclist. Alexander was already rhomping about in the meadow, the various wildflowers and tall grasses licking at his bare legs as they rustled about in the wind. He was hopping about, almost acting as if though he were a frog. His attention had been caught by a small rodent only moments before, but, after the feeble creature quickly scurried into it's home, a deep hole in the earth, Alexander's focus had been shifted back to just messing around, trying to run and play with the breeze.

Feather sat down on a beach sort of towel not terribly far away, observing her Eden as he played. It was clear how comfortable he felt out in the wild, how natural.

No suprise there. She watched him for a while longer, then took a thoughtful bite of her sandwhich.

Bird had never valued her judgement on certain things. When someone asked her to lick a pole in the winter, she had done so without hesitation-- not that that was the case now. But she didn't scan the predicament thoroughly-- not at all, really-- and, so, wasn't quick to decline.

So, when Raven had seized one of her books and shoved it into her face, demanding in a delcarative voice that left no room for argument-- gooness, she couldn't even talk yet-- she wanted to go see the object portrayed in the picture.

Butterfly catching, Bird discovered, wasn't as easy as it looked.

"Raven!" she called, energy depleted. The child was ahead, giggling madly and chasing the colorful winged creature that fascinated her mind and dazzled her eyes. Raven didn't heed the call.

Rolling her eyes, Bird flopped on the ground, catching her breath. Her eyes caught two other figures in the near distance, and she blinked when recognition sparked her memory.

"... Feather? And Alex?"

Feather quickly turned around, hearing Bird's mindless inquiry. She blinked several times, not sure if those who stood before her were simply a trick being played on her by the hot midday sun. A quick grin replaced her previously clueless expression as she realized she was being foolish.

"Hey, Bird! Is that you?" She called out, standing up and brushing a few crumbs of bread off of her lap. "Raven, too! Hello, there!" She waved happily.

Alexander had not noticed the two newcomers, remaining alone in the brush. He giggled when the grass touched his nose.

Bird blinked, letting out a short laugh in astonished amusement. "Yep! Unless I'm an apparation, it's me." She rose, dusting off the back of the pant leg that had landed in the slightly damp soil, and headed over towards the other.

Raven, who had been frolicking in the taller grass-- it absoloutely fascinated her --recognized the voice instantly. It was Alex's momma! Whic meant... Alex was here! Abandoning the butterfly for the moment, Raven cheered and tried to run in the direction her Momma was heading. She stumbled and, deciding it was best to stop before the hurt went any farther, dropped to her knees and continued migrating towards them.

"How've you been?" Feather walked the rest of the distance to Bird, smiling a warm greeting. She turned around for a moment, seeing Alexander was still off in a world of his own.

"HEY, ALEX! COME 'ERE!" The loud order immediately took Alexander out of his daze, and as he looked around, set eyes on the small, crawling form of Raven.

"Waven!!" He squealed, half walking and half stumbling towards her. His wings flapped furiously in pure jubiluation. He came up to the girl, cheering and clapping. "Hewwo!!"

"Ah, not too bad," Bird said, grinning. "A tad bit of a headache from catching all these... butterflies. I never knew it was so hard."

Raven's smile lit up her face as she saw Alexander. "Awwex!" she cheered, tumbling on the ground and over his bare feet. "G--gwad t'..s-s-see yoo!"

That didn't escape Bird's ears. Her eyes grew large, and she snapped her astonished gaze over to the small child. "You... wow! Yay Rave!"

"Butterflies...sounds...painful. All that waiting, and stuff? I envy your patience." Feather heard Raven's carefully formulated sentence, and burst into happy applause. "She's really coming along, isn't she?"

"Yes! You, twoo!" Alexander cheered, reaching down and taking Raven's hands into his own to help her up. "Carewfull!"

Bird's applause died out eventually, a fond smile gracing her lips. "She most certianly is. I see Alexander has, too," she added, noticing the other child's speech. "It really is amazing how fast they learn, no?"

Raven threw a smile over her shoulder at the two "grown-ups," accepting the offered help with a thanks. She chirped suddenly, wanting to show Alex the butterflies she ws so taken with.

"Awex! Fl--flutterboos!" She tugged on one of his hands, pointing with the other in the distance at small, quivering figures in the air. One of them did a sudden flip, setting of a sparkle of glee in azure eyes.

"Yeah! In no time at all they'll be all grown up...Oh God, I hope Alex doesn't turn out all angsty and weird like some of my other companions...it's been happening more often than I want it to, lately... Anyways, have you heard anything new with Teagan? Is he still sick?" Feather's eyebrows unconsciously furrowed with concern. Any Eden being ill frightened her, especially since the children were so young.

"Flut...flutter...boos?" Alexander asked quizzically, tilting his head to one side. What the heck was a flutterboo? OH! Those weird little floatie things Raven was gesturing at! He followed her gaze and observed the butterflies for a moment, becoming enveloped in wonder. They could actually fly? But they were so small!

"Less...go see!" He said quietly, hasty to investigate these new found creatures.

Her eye crinkled in a wince, agreeing. "That'd be the nightmare. And.. no, I haven't heard anything about Teagan," she said, another worry nagging her. "I.. would image he's okay, at least. Can't blame him for the shots, though."

Raven nodded happily. "Flutterboos! 'Kay!" She didn't release his hand, and began to run, which was more of a brisk trot in her case because of the child's small size. Because of Alex's balance as an anchor, Raven didn't even stumble as she moved, a fact that wasn't overlooked. The Eden bloomed in pride, smile revealing dimples that seemed to bring out the twinkle in her eyes.

She stopped with a slight bounce, still managing to stand, and turned triumphantly to the other with a pointed finger extended. "Flutterboos!" she announced, referring to the winged creatures, dancing on hidden air currents.

"Flutter..." Alex took a cautious step forward, his free hand without thought reaching out towards the small, energetic group of creatures, his serious expression revealing he was deep in concentration. "Mus...git one..." With a sudden lurch he shot forth, letting go of Raven's hand and launching himself into the cluster of butterflies, tiny fingers outstretched with the hope of becoming entangled in one of the delicate insect's wings.

Of course, he caught not a one, instead tumbling over and instead of recieving his prize, got nothing but a mouthful of dirt.

He wasn't going to cry. Noo way, not in front of Raven. Despite his frustration he stood back up, his face growing slightly red. "Flutterboos mean..." He commented, frowning at the girl.
