It wasn't long that it took Syeira to mount the large dune that Uumi himself had first taken to tackling. She probably had an easier time with it than he would, and by the time she got to the top, she could pick out the figure below. True, it would be so very dangerous to slip closer to those lands and care for the poor lioness - but it was obvious she was not a true firekin. She may have perhaps been a slave, much like Denahi, but she was in much worse shape. "Uumi," she whispered, "we've got to go help her."

No one should be condemned to slavery, not when it broke them so, and even in Syeira's normally cold heart - she knew that. She could at least get the poor creature some water if nothing else. Maybe even some food. True, it would be deviating from the path of finding her son - but what else was to be done?

"Come on," she said with a sigh on her voice, trotting down over the dune with ease and speeding forward towards the little lioness. It was amazingly easy for her to blend into the sands of the desert with the color of her pelt - for Uumi, on the other hand, it would be more of a chore. So be it, though, she added in her mind, slowly coming up at the side of the poor thing.

"Are you alright?" she asked, her voice calm, even as she leaned over the figure and pressed her maw against the neck - to see how weak the poor thing was.

[Welcome to the rp, by the way, I didn't say it before <3 Glad to have someone else. And sorry it takes me so long, my life distracts me.]

Uumi had reached the top just about the same time as Sye, despite starting before her. None of her words reached his ears, as he stood and stared at the figure just a bit before them. That peach colored pelt... the scent...

It jarred memories of his childhood.

Only when he realized Sye was moving forward did he too start padding again. He was going down the dune, but quite in a rush. "I know her." Was all he said, mostly to Sye. "I know this lion.." Why did he sound so upset?

No time to dwell on memories though! He should have been dwelling on his footing, because he suddenly caught one of his feet and went lurching forward. His eyes widened but he made no sound of surprise, he just cursed himself silently as he landed on his chest and slid a few feet forward. He rose, only to start coughing.

Getting worked up, wasn't he?

"Peach," He called out, wondering if Kib would even remember him. He surpressed his little coughing, coming up beside Syeira and getting close to the form. What terrible shape she was in!

Voices....voices getting nearer, louder, drowning her mind with panic!

She swayed on her paws, head turning from side to side as she tried to seek a way out. And yet her eyes saw only desert and more desert, the sea of gold stretching out as far as the eye could go. She was trapped here with no where to turn and for a moment her life flashed before her eyes.

It was then that she heard the female voice and swept her own gaze upwards to the dune behind her. However where she expected to see a group of Firekin she saw only a brown female who could not possibly have been from the Pride who ruled her. Her heart gave a strange jolt in her chest and for a moment she relaxed, knowing now that her panic had been for nothing.

That was until she spotted Uumi. For at first as she lay eyes upon him she saw not the lion but instead that blazing red pelt. That pelt that belonged to those who had beaten her and enslaved her. They had clipped her wings and ruined her dreams and now when she set eyes on red she saw nothing but danger.

The touch upon her neck jolted her slightly, eyes darting to and fro as she began to back up. In fact it looked like she might have passed out if Uumi hadn't taken that opportunity to fall down.

For a moment she stared at him, unable to move or talk.

And then...that name.

The name she hadn't heard for so very long!

Tears welled instantly in her eyes as she realised finally that she faced not a Firekin but instead a childhood friend.

A sob broke free from her then, sending a violent shudder down the length of her petite frame and then slowly she crumpled to the ground, her body shaking as she tried to hold in her weeping.

"Rocky..."

She looked up at the pair in shame and then turned her head away, unable to bring ehrsel to look at them. "I-I'm f-fine." She stuttered, wishing that they had not had to meet again like this. What would Rocky think of her now?

She was shameful...

((Eeee thanks Felyn, I was so excited to hear about this RP. Been following Uumi and Sy RP for a while now so it was awesome to get a chance to RP with them finally <3 and no worried about taking a while to reply *snugs* ))

Syeira frowned as she heard those words flowing past Uumi's maw. He knew the poor thing? It wasn't, of course, until Syeira heard that pet name from the mouth of the petite belle - rocky. Hadn't Syeira heard someone call Uumi that when they were but cubs? She frowned, wracking her mind, until she pinpointed that sandy fae and the other she had seen her with that day so long ago.

The poor thing had somehow wound herself away from the pridelands and into the firekin - she was now a measley little broken thing, and for what? Sometimes, Syeira couldn't understand the cruelty behind the firekin life. True, she wasn't the kindest lioness in the world most of the time - but she was nothing on them.

"Come on," she murmured, nudging the female in an attempt to sit her up, "we need to get you to some water, you must be thirsty?" In fact, all Syeira could think to do right now was get the poor thing up and get something into her. She looked to be in quite bad condition.

Uumi wasn't sure what to do. Had being with the firekin this long done this to her? How long since they parted ways did it take her to find these lands? And to think that he and his sister once wished to belong to the lands.

"Water.." Uumi muttered in agreeance, coming to Kib's other side. "And something to eat, from the look of things." He said, very quietly. Uumi had never felt like... this before. So helpless, maybe guilty.

Growing up certainly wasn't fun.

"N-no, no!" She was stuggling to her feet again and moving to stagger in front of them, eyes wide and breath hoarse in her throat. What had panicked her now? "P-please. You two c-can't stay!" There was desperation in her tone now that trembled through her weakened body. "They might s-see you, c-catch you! P-please, you ha-have to go!"

So many feelings, so many emotions! She felt joy, a wonderful joy to be faced with a familiar face, to be faced with proof that she hadn't always been like this. She felt shame and embarrasment for the predicament she had been caught in, but most of all she felt fear, fear that they'd be captured and dragged down into the same position as her.

She could not let that happen!

Not to Rocky and his...friend? The female was familiar but the face couldn't be placed to a name so for now she said nothing on it. It was more important to get them away to safety.

Sniffling quietly she tried to ease the stirring of her mind, trying to sort through her words. There was so many things she wanted to say but no time in which to speak them. What had Rocky been doing all this time? Did he live in the Pridelands? Had he traveled the world? Did he have a family and a good life? Was the world really as scary as she thought it was or had she just been unlucky with her experiences?

But instead of these questions the only word that flowed from her mouth was; "Please Rocky. D-don't let them s-see you."

Now Syeira knew why she had never really favored these hero types. She knew quick plainly that they were too close to the borders for it to matter so much, and all that would have to be done was the pair of them moving back over the ridge of that last dune they had crossed. For someone so close to the cold bite of death to act in such a way was ridiculous - especially when two healthy (well, in Uumi's case, mostly healthy) lions were trying to give her a bit of aid.

"Don't be silly, we can be over those dunes before any lion can reach this spot from the point where we first see them," she said with a hard voice, nudging the lioness, "and if you want us out of the lands, then you'll have to at least come to the borders if not past them, because you need water and you need food, and I will not be argued with."

She gave Uumi a glance - true, she would never want to become a firekin's plaything and slave, but she'd be damned if she let them kill another creature through this misuse. Let alone, a lioness that Rocky once knew.

Uumi was about to say something along the same lines, or more along the lines that it didn't matter. But it seemed Sye has beat him to it, and probably drove the point home. "Gah, Kib you should just hush and concentrate on walking." He mumbled out, not as harsh as Sye but still demanding.

His crimson eyes met Sye's blue as she glanced over, and his ears flicked. Well this would be an interesting story, wouldn't it?

Uumi worked on helping Kib move forward, this would take a bit of time to get her to the nearest watering hole.

Almost instantly the lioness fell quiet, deciding it was best to obey them for now. She couldn't force them to go and she was more likely going to attract attention if she made a fuss. So with a small nod and a shaky exhale of breath she allowed Rocky to help her, moving forward slowly.

Each step was weary but she continued to move, finding walking easier now that she had help and company. It was good to not be alone for a change and in the presence of others who wanted to help instead of hurt her.

But there was still something she didn't understand.

"W-why are you two h-here?"

Syeira liked it, she must admit, a lot more when lions just gave in and admitted to whatever she was trying to make them do. Taabu was often pretty easy to push under this rule - considering, after all, that she was his mother. Uumi was, sometimes, if he wasn't in a bad mood. This lioness, however, had a good head on her shoulders - but then, it could also be that being a slave had sucked away most of what you would call pride or honor.

"Actually," she said slowly, sighing as she steadied the other side of the lioness, not putting too much pressure onto her - she was weak and petite and in not a very good condition at all, the last thing she wanted to do was hurt her. "Our son ran away," she said under her breath, obviously not too pleased with the idea, "for some reason we've yet to figure out. We figure the most obvious place to go would be Pride rock to see his grandmother. We passed through this way, close to the borders, just to make sure he didn't wander into the firekin lands and get.."

She cut off her words there, offering a weak smile, and turning her head away - those bright icy orbs sparkling in the sun as it splashed down over her coffee pelt. She wouldn't say the rest of it - the girl knew what she meant by it.

Uumi huffed lightly, he hated Sye like this. Taabu needed a good speaking to! "You haven't seen a coffee colored juvenile, by any chance? A big, black stripe runs down his back and tail.. and he has red eyes." Well well, Uumi certaily kept in mind what his son looked like, at least. At least that was some proof of his caring, right?

"Though I doubt he is stupid enough to wander into these lands... has he heard the stories of firekin, sye?" He glanced over.

Their son was missing? How awful! Kiburi could only imagine how worried these two were! The fact that Uumi was actually a father seemed not to hit her mind until a few strides later and when the realisation settled she turned to the red lion at her side with a smile on her face.

"I-I'm glad you f-found someone Rocky." Her eyes flicked over to the brown lioness, wishing that she could bring her news but also glad that she couldn't. Kiburi knew all of the slaves since she was in charge of them and she had never come across a cub of that description.

"I'm s-sorry but I h-haven't seen a cub l-like that. Th-though it's probably a g-good thing." She tried to picture the little cub and what he was like, yet funnily enough she couldn't see anything else but a grouchy little cub just like Uumi had been.

She chuckled - which was apparently a mistake - as that only encouraged another coughing fit. When it cleared she spoke again. "I-I'll keep my e-eye out f-for him though if h-he does turn up. Th-though if he's as sm-smart as his parents are I'm s-sure he'll n-never come here." She had always thought of Rocky as wise and she was positive his mate was the same, he wouldn't put up with anything less than the best. It was his way.

A soft smile worked itself across her lips - true, the lioness had not seen her son, and in any other situation that could make for a bad omen. Though, seeing as they were in the firekin lands and he had indeed not been seen travelling in them, that meant that one of the worst possible scenarios Syeira had devised her mind could be laid to rest. That still left others, but even one less was enough for comfort. She could be glad, for the moment, that her son had not fallen into slavery.

"He's a very smart boy," Syeira said quietly, under her breath, out loud enough for the lioness and Uumi both to hear - but in a manner that said it was more to be spoken for herself. "He's crafty too," she said, eyes narrowed on the horizon, still trugding along and half supporting some of the lioness weight onto her own strong limbs - after all, one can't depend on Uumi so much for physical stength, can they? "It makes me wonder why he'd run away - there must be some reason in his mind, some plan," she muttered, "but I can't for the life of me even begin to think."

It was then that she laughed, glancing sidewards to her mate, her eyes glittering in a sudden spark of amusement, "He knows all about the Firekin lions, and he'd never come this way, but that mind of his makes me think he could outwit a good portion of them - he's devilish by his own right. I think I taught him too well, Uumi. That, or perhaps our genes made for a mind we can't even begin to fathom." She shook her head, eyes back ahead of her.

"There," she said quietly, once they had been past the dunes a small ways, "I see the watering hole I used to visit when I was younger, on the way to the pridelands." She turned her direction to a path that way, letting the lioness move as slow as she would like.

"Though, I must ask you," she said quietly, "if you know whether or not the lion - Denahi - is still slave in the firekin lands? He's of a dark pelt, darker than mine, but not black, and a mane to match it. His eyes are like mine, and he's got a marking on his hind quarter." She turned her eyes back on the sandy lioness, wonder but nothing like worry lurking in those icy orbs.

She just wanted to know - she didn't care a whole lot if he was still there or not. Why should she? Denahi deserted his family.

Uumi just muttered something under his breath at Kib's comment. He wasn't so sure, half the time, if he'd found someone... or simply if Sye had wrapped her claws around his mind from the start. Manipulation was one of her strong points. Often he wondered if he really did love Sye, or if she'd just tricked him into thinking that. Or maybe he just thought way too much of the whole thing and his brain was melting into mush!

"Of course he could out-wit most of these oafs. They have their mind set on violence and inflicting harm." He muttered quietly. The day some blood-thirsty moron outwitted his--- he immedietly stopped those thoughts. They were very unuumi-like. He didn't let himself think of how much pride he had for his only son. Would not! He'd just been cought off guard, was all.

He tensed up as Sye mentioned Denahi, Uumi hated him more than he even hated her father. His fur prickled just the slightest, his crimson orbs narrowing.

Things had changed.

They had grown up, all of them. They stood side by side not as cubs anymore, but as adults, fully grown and developed in mind and body.

Uumi had a son, had a mate, and looked healthy considering his health problems. Se was perhaps just a little jealous of what he had achieved in his lifetime especially when compared to her own.

Tears beaded in her eyes, forcing her to lower her head so that the others could not see them. She wanted to see her family again, she wanted to wander free, she even wished she had a cub of her own to care for with a mate to help get her through difficult times.

It was true she had Zenoni, but their relationship was far from full. They could not express their affection for one another in fear that others might see, and any kind words were spoken in secret. It was as if she should be ashamed to feel love of any kind or that maybe she didn't deserve it.

"Y-you two should be ver-very proud of your c-cubling." She spoke finally, being careful not to free any tears from her eyes.

It was as Sy described the other that a hint of recognition lanced into Kiburi's mind, allowing her to picture a young slave lion she had seen around. "I-I have seen a l-lion like that. T-though word was that he w-was granted f-freedom." There was a bitter note to her voice then, something that had never once been heard on Kiburi's tongue before.

For once where her soul had been innocent and pure she was now being tainted with hatred. A hatred for the red-pelts and a jealousy for those who had managed to escape when she could not.

She felt awful for such feelings, and yet each night as she lay in her cold den, shivering by Zenoni's side, she could not help but feel a terrible bitterness that the freedom she so craved would forever be denied to her.

"R-rocky.." She did not glance up as she spoke, ever keeping her face pointed downwards. "Do you....d-do you ever go b-back to the..." She swallowed back the lump in her throat. "The P-prid...Pridelands." The word was a struggle to say and as it left her maw one tear managed to escape. "I c-can't remember it. I c-can't rem-remember the f-feel of grass...the so-sound of running w-water or the singing of th-the birds." It seemed she was lost now in her memories, trying depserately to grasp at them. The words were whispered, unclear and nervous as if she couldn't quite remember how to say them. Then realising she was muttering mostly to herself she clamped her jaws shut and raised her eyes to the approaching water.

It gave her a great sense of relief to see it and she unconsciously quickened her pace to reach it's edge. Suddenly she had become very thirsty.
