Well, I joined the guild today sooo, letting everyone know my experience.
I came from a small highschool of 200 but we had a huge band program for a small school with 70 people being in the highschool marching band.
As an eighth grader I was given permission to march in the parades but not the field shows on snare. I'm a rudimental player but am not as good of chops as I want. (doubt I'll ever reach that) I've for the longest time been a jazz player that hated using traditional grip cause match just felt so much better. Well eitherway.....
I was section leader last two years of highschool and then went off to college. I play for University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire marching band. Eau claire is a school of only 10,000 as opposed to the 40,000 in Madison. But we are the best public university for music in the state. Best musicians in Wisconsin come here. So with our Marching Band of only 140 we are incredible.
I'm a freshmen here at the University and I'm on the snare line. Earlier this season we got to play on Lambeau field in front of 70,623 Packer fans which was sweet. We're a show band instead of the Drum Corps militaristic style. Our director is from the south, explains it. So we do tons of dancing on the field, it's meant to sound sweet and look like we're having fun, which we do. This year our best show was music of James Brown.
We play traditional so I had to beat myself up to start doing it, I'm still not as good as I am match but... that's okay, it's getting more natural. I pick up a pair of sticks and want to hold them traditional now. Basically... marching band owns smile And drumline is where it is wink
Being a rudiment drummer though... I cant play mallets to save my life. Any 4 stick mallet part is so beyond me it isn't even funny. I'd love to learn.

I really wish my old highschool had had winterdrumline. A friend of mine from Minnesota last year won their state competition a while back. They did music from West Side Story. All wore leather jackets, was really sweet.

Im a keyboardist at heart. Always have been. I've played since i was just a little thing but I play trumpet in band. I can't wait for Winter Drumline to start so i can get back in the pit! I love marching but i think i like to consentrate more on the music than the marching.

Sakeyum Hey what kind of drums are everyone's favorites (band wise) What sticks do you prefer? Our line uses Pearl. Remo heads for snares and quints, Evans for bass drums.
Sticks? Well, they WERE Vic Firths, but at the rate that I'm chewing through my sticks, I dunno...I went through two pairs at the beginning of the season, and my third pair is starting to split. The other quint player is already almost through with his third pair. We can have a figgin' bonfire by the time band season is over...
