Is it such a stretch that the Doctor would consider himself to be Susan's father? Even if it is just an adopted title? ninja

She called him "grandfather", so I don't think the Doctor was referring to Susan when he told Rose he was once a father. Or maybe he was. Quite frankly, I could care less either way.

As of this writing the Outpost Gallifrey thread on the "I was a father once" line, which once again reignited the debate about Susan being or not being the Doctor's biological granddaughter (and the canonicity of Lungbarrow, Cold Fusion, etc. etc. etc.) is now 253 replies deep. Methinks this is an issue which will never be completely decided until the Doctor explicitly and irrefutably says something one way or the other on TV. And even then a few people will still find a way to argue the opposite. gonk

Meanwhile, RTD is probably laughing his head off somewhere...

Different regenerations, different prespectives on his relationship with Susan, I guess. While the first might have been willing to go along with Susan's insistence on calling him "Grandfather", other versions of him might think of her as more of an adopted daughter or niece. Whether he was making a reference to either Susan or one of Susan's parents is uncertain, but ONE thing is for sure. Evidence of who The Face of Boe refers to in his last message to the Doctor is starting to assemble itself.

Will we be seeing Susan again I wonder? mrgreen

There's a question. Is what the Face Of Boe said going to be resolved in these upcoming two eps or is it going to be left until a later season?

Since the current season is almost over, I doubt that it'll happen in this series.

Just finished watching the episode today (serious very painful stomach bug not helping...) and thought it was alright. It didn't have anything to annoy. It had some nice jokes. I feel a bit sorry for it cos it will probably be the episode that will be forgotten. Or mostly forgotten. Obviously that dad quote will stick around for awhile.

Like the rest of you I liked the scribbly monster. It's funny though, as the sort of effect they did to produce it is more like the special effects on the old episodes where they'd draw a big scribbly monster thing on the screen... No-one calls it cheap now though. whee

Oh I LOVED it! Just finished watching it... t'was great! And now I'm starting to dream up a fanfic of someone getting trapped in one of those fake worlds the alien spore children make. Heh. But it was really good. But that creeped me out! "A storm is coming..." In a way, he could mean himself. But still! That was GREAT when he lit the torch. I SO want to see that happen for real. ^^ And the preview for the next episode ZOMG! "This is the last story I'll ever tell..." Sorry, guess I'm still in awe/shock... !!!

If you think that's a good quote you should see the one that's on the BBC page for Army Of Ghosts.

'She's not Rose Tyler, not anymore.'

How cool is that?

I went & looked at the page--wow, that's one of the really cool layouts! cool Now I have two theories for that line...one creates hilarious mental images & probably is not the answer.
The other is good enough that I'm gonna sit on it & see if it's right...! whee

What're your theories? I would really like to know!
PostPosted: Tue Jun 27, 2006 10:44 pm

The funny one is a mental image of the Rose doggy as a cyber-doggy. biggrin Some people do call their pets by the family last name....
The second...well, if I was right it would mess it all up for everybody here!
Its been kept quiet so far, & if I'm right this would be a cool & interesting way for Rose to go out!

Just finished watching "Fear Her", it was alright. As much as I love the paranormal it just doesn't seem right seeing Doctor Who working an exorcism of sorts (however "The Unquiet Dead" was an interesting episode...)

~Daughter of Sparda~

I thought he was sticking his finger in a jar of coffee at first, and I was like, 'ZOMFG! I'm not the only one who does that! Whee, the Doctor does it too!'. And then I find out it's not coffee...hm...close enuff'.

I know someone who storts instant coffee.

Anyway...

I thought it was very good. There was some fun lines, some confussing lines ("I was a dad once" WTF?) and some naff (no, not n.a.f.f. but naff) bits (the dr taking the torch, "feel the love",etc)

but overall it was very good.

Made me laugh that they didn't inclued any of the other verses of the Kookaburra song:

Kookaburra sits in an old gum tree
marry marry king of the bush is he
laugh Kookaburra laugh Kookaburra
gay your live must be.

Kookaburra sits on a train track
train comes alone and slwashes him flat
laugh Kookaburra laugh Kookaburra
gay your live must be.

Kookaburra sits on a telephone wire
jumping up and down with his tail on fire
laugh Kookaburra laugh Kookaburra
gay your live must be.

Why is it that so many nursery rhymes are about death and pain and suffering? And parents say TV is violent... what about the stuff they read to their kids every night before they go to sleep? gonk
