The wild dog crouched low to the ground, smirking at the rock in the distance. Almost her entire body was completely still; her tail was no longer wagging, her eyes were no longer surveying anything but that rock. The only clue that she was a live wild dog was the breaths she took and the slow speech that came:
"On your mark...get set...GO!"
And she was running at her fastest speed toward that rock.

It takes Kari a minute to clue into what Chenza is doing, distracted by the change in the wild dogs mien. When she does realize what's going on, she mimics the pose and lowers herself to the ground tensely. She fidgets when Chenza speaks, trying to stay still but unable to because of the anticipation of the word go. Chenza is already several strides ahead when Kari leaps forward, her eyes moving back and fourth from the rock and Chenza.
Chenza should win, she'd like that more. She'll probably win anyway!
Far too distracted to be running her best, she falls back a fair bit.

Chenza kept running toward the rock, not noticing that the cheetah was behind her. If she had noticed, she probably would have scolded her. It's not a race if creatures don't run their best.
The rock was approaching...the rock was approaching...the rock was...ow! That rock beneath her foot wasn't supposed to be there. Chenza lost a few strides as she looked at her stubbed toes and whimpered. But soon she started running again, at a slower pace.

When Chenza stumbles, Kari's eyes are on the rock and she manages to catch up with her before she realizes something happened that made Chenza slow down. That's when she almost comes to a complete stop, but when Chenza starts to run again she bites back any comments and leaps forward again. But now that she's caught up and Chenza is going slower the staggering in her own pace is more obvious.

Chenza noticed this staggering of pace now, and when she reached the rock she started to laugh. "This race doesn't seem fair," she said, not noting who had actually reached the rock first. "You're not running as fast as you could be, and a race is supposed to be between creatures running at their best. But we'll definitely have to have a rematch," she said, before she noted that the sun was now much higher in the sky. "That is, when I return here. I should be getting back to my pack for the time being, as I think they need my help on a hunt. It was lovely meeting you, Chuakari."
(Thanks for the great RP! We should definitely do it again sometime)

Kari reaches the rock shortly after Chenza, smiling even when Chenza starts to laugh. Chenza won! The cheetah couldn't be happier if she'd won herself. But then she frowns when the race is declared unfair, murmuring an apology. "Ok, we can race again then," she says, looking a bit happier at that idea, "It was nice to meet you too, Chenza!" With that, Kari does a quick circle around as if she's chasing her tail, then smiles at Chenza before heading off herself.
(( Thank you very much biggrin It was great fun. We'll need to get them in a rematch ;D ))
