Yes, sorry. I had a feeling you'd mentioned some of those points before. ^_^ I just needed to try and sort things out in my head. Christine- needs a father figure. Erik- needs a mother figure, a lover and a friend all rolled into one (which is verrah, verrah bad as we all know). Raoul- likes his hair. Okay, that wasn't fair, but... oh yeah, and rhyme was completely unintended. But yeah. The difference between Erik and Raoul can be very simplified- probably oversimplified, but here it is. Raoul is willing to die for Christine. Erik is willing to kill for her. *Shrugs*

Mebbe I should write a fanfic based on Erik trying to be Christine's mother.... O.o Wow, that would be special. Okay, I'm done being off topic. Honestly. Um... so! Raoul! Right. Yes...

Utakan angel_of_joy to be completely honest i have never liked Raoul for the simple reason i don't like the spoiled rotten rich kids that don't have to do anything in life and get everything they want! that just doesn't seem fair to me and Raoul is exactly that! Actually, that's not entirely true of Raoul. In the book it's mentioned that he was young when his Father died and was left in the care of his sisters and older brother. Yes they spoiled him, but only with affection. It also mentions he became a sailor and actually worked out at sea for I think about three years before going to Paris when the storyline starts. So he isn't entirely spoiled down to the core (perhaps just a little more than others) and he has done things in life that couldn't be counted as easy. ..Dear God, I've defended it! *sobs* Why hasth thou forsaken me?! all that you say is true, however he was born into a life better than that of the phantoms and therefore would tend to be a "rich kid" phantom had nothing, no love, only fear and so my humanitarian side feels way more sorry for him and i have a thing against Raoul who was born into a better life. thats all it is!

Erik had things, but he wasn't born into a home that loved him. Had he been born unscarred, he would've most likely led a lower middle-class life. Since he was born deformed, however, he was raised solely on hate and fear because of his face and the belief that such deformities were signs of sin. I can't say much more on his life because all we have to go on for it is Susan Kay's book, which more or less tells us he wasn't entirely poor (quite the contrary when it came to his life in Persia) so you can't exactly say Erik had "nothing". I understand his life was hard and that gives us ground to say "poor Erik", but you can't hate Raoul just because he was born privilaged. No one asks to be born poor or even rich, though many prefer to be brought into the world comforted by money and material things. Not to go against your reasoning, but it was rather vague.
