Doyle is my favorite between him & Frost!!!! By far I think Doyle is the best decision if she only gets one in the end.

I always thought of Frost as Asher. Even though Rhys is the scarred fellow of the series he's way more bubbly than Asher has ever been. Frost and Asher both seem manic depressive to me at various times.

I don't know who the Richard character is. Probably Galen. All nice and cool to be with at first but just not able to cut it in the world of monter politics.

While I agree there are some similarities, I think there are also signifigant differences.

Frost tends to be jelous (I think) out of a fear that he will lose Merdith's love, on the faulty logic that she has a finite amount of love, so if she loves someone else more, she must love him less. Richard is, in my opinion, jelous more out of a sense of poseviness and a idea that a woman should only be sleeping with one person at a time. Anita should be his, and it's not right for her to be sleeping with someone else if she's sleeping with him. His moral and sense of the world are the source, not his heart.

Their moodiness also has a different flavor to it, as well. This is harder to quantify, for me at least, but Richard isn't just moody, he's clinicaly depressed, (symptoms of some kinds of depression can include fits of rage) and in serious need of professional help. Frost is moody, but not in a petulent sort of way, as if having started to allow himself to feel and show feelings he's not quite sure where the line of when to and when not to is.

(On a side note, while I like Frost, he's not my favorite charachter. I actually like Richard, I just don't think he actually loves Anita, and I don't think he's good for her.)

Oooo... Doyle is Edward. mwa hahaha

Doyle has to be Edward.

Galen = Jason? *Snickers* Gods... I'm going to have to read them all back to back now just to see.

Can't say I've read the Gentry series. I can tell you, however, that if you read the news on LKH that her books mirror her life insofar as men moving in and out of it. And honestly, if she's having as much success with gentry as she is with anita, why should she change her basic plot kit?

-too lazy to read three pages worth-

I think most of the characters in Anita Blake series corresponds to the Meridith Gentry series. I don't like it yet I love it... sweatdrop

As stated before. i always thought of Frost as Asher. Not just based on personality but in plot position. Both are in love with the main character, but serve as second in command to the main rival love interest. They both happen to have a close bond with thier superior, though differing in nature.

This is a really wild topic !!! First I do not believe in respnse to an earlier comment that galen is like richard. galen is like a child who has needed to grow up and mature and has been doing so through the series. his outbursts have been fewer. i can see merry ending up with him maybe when all is said and done because he may become a very strong person since they are all getting their god powers back and his have not really been fully revealed until just briefly inthe end of the latest book.
Frost in definately nothing like richard !!!! frost does not dislike himself and is actually accepting of merry sleeping with the other men to get pregnant now whereas richard's problem is his self loathing of himself and his beast and he started having issues with anita and JC I believe not just when they started having sex but when they were sharing blood and richard doesn't like the fact that he has male and female tendencies. he is a very confused and angry amn and frost may pout but he is never this angry or hurtful to merry. frost and doyle nicca are all my favs and i'm always looking forward to the next gentry book with massive excitement just like I do for the next anita blake book.

Now, it might be because I've had WAAAAAY too many lit. classes or some such, but has anyone else noticed the parallels between Richard and Frost?

-the main character (Anita Blake and Merry Gentry) love them

-the main character wishes that they would stop being so melodramatic

-the main character HAS to sleep around ( rolleyes ) and they throw hissy fits about it

-the readers are stuck between love and hate for them

-they're one of the main competitors for the main female's heart, the other competitor being a person that Richard/Frost can't stand

And so on and so forth. Conspiracy, anyone? -Or merely an unconscious writing style of LKH?

No...she's just not as original as she used to be...

It sadens me...

Okay and just for the record...Anita didn't begin by HAVING to sleep around...she just got more and more loose (at least until the ardur)...And I hate that...
murr
At least Merry began that way...with Anita we had to watch her go downhill

I don't know about you but I am sick of all the Emo bullshit from both frost and richard...

ok ill give you that the main character loves them, that the MC wishes that they would be less pmsie, but i cant really give you the rest.

A.) Becuz i personally hate Richard with a passion & truely believe him worse then Frost ever could be.
B.) Yeah they throw hissy fits- BUT Doesnt Doyle throw more hissy fits then Frost...Especially in the lastest two books (Stroke of Midnight & Mistrals Kiss).
C.) Yeah Frost doesnt care much for the rest- but neither does Galen, Rhys, Doyle ect.
1.) Its not like Frost walked out & was a lil b***h about it either
2.) Try taking in the plot lines in each series. Merry HAS to have sex to get the throne or her completely demented cusin Cel destroys all Faerie. While Anita has the succubus thing going & well not randomly...cuz to quote her its like a erection was just there & she just so happened to fall on it...but you get my point.

Meh, Sure they're both pouty and get thier feelings hurt easily...but I think Richard is more so...He's quick to anger and shows it puls he's self lothing and and self distuctive...Which is a shame cause I really liked him in the begining...
Frost is pouty but he tries hard not to show emotion and does't get violent... Frost doesn't really hate himeself or what he is...well not nearly as much as Richard hates himself... sure Frost has self essem issues from not being Shide form the start, but Mary fixes that when she show she doesn't care what he was before....
