hilaroma He's such a deep character, so I would really love to learn more about him. Too bad Jo's not giving much away..... stare perhaps in the next book? I hope they do go more into his past in the next book. They gave us a little tip of the iceberg in book 5 that really piqued my interest.

He's not old, not bad not goody good, he's strict and disciplined and really smart (not like Hermione, bookknowledge)
He's not greasy, you work in a clammy dungeon while there are 20 cauldrons boilling and see if you hair doesn't get greasy.

Severus is absolved from the majority of his "git-like" conduct towards young Mr. Potter due to James Potter being a complete twit. While this isn't RIGHT...it's understandable...and thusly all this "Snape is so mean!!!!11111" just isn't right.
I personally don't think he's EVIL either. But that's a whole other novel.
He had a dark past, just like Harry. But there's good reason to believe Snape had an abusive childhood. And Harry and Severus aren't identical, so they reacted differently to their dark pasts.
Harry made friends quickly. His infamous characteristic helped with this, if you'll remember.
Severus was one of the poor kids, who didn't have any friends. And not only that but the rich kids picked on him, as we see in 5. I love Sirius. And I don't HATE James. But they were snotty little rich kids. Remus is the only one innocent all throughout. But that's our lovely lupine for you.
