Maya saw the glowing eyes in the darkness, and squinted to see what kind of body lay beyond the glowing orbs. He was quite handsome, she noticed, with a kind face, despite his rather vampiric appearance.
"We're here," she said aloud, as if it were time for roll call. She smiled at the pale boy, and waved her arm in the air like an idiot. Way to make yourself known Maya. Brilliant.
The golden worm giggled. Maya, you're too funny!
It was then that she heard the sound of something hitting the wall. She turned to see the younger boy--the one with the jellyfish--methodically wiping his shoe and repeating something over and over. The umbrella had been tossed aside, and he looked as if he was trying to get rid of the water as quickly as he could.
She wasn't sure whether he needed help or not...She thought of offering, but instead of helping, she stood there, observing him. Strange.

As he stepped into the House, Laertes tried not to let the obvious ambience of the candles in the darkness get to him - but he couldn't help a little shiver up his spine. He looked to Maya, who was standing closest to him of the three other younger Forgotten, to make sure she hadn't seen it and then followed her gaze to see what she was looking at. Intus was rubbing his foot and muttering to himself about something.
"Man," Laertes said, leaning over to Maya, "That kid is weird."
Chandra, who was standing somewhere to the side of Alex with her arms folded, looked to Otium. "I think we are ready to begin."
And as if the House had heard and understood her - and perhaps it did - the front door slowly and creakingly shut behind them, blocking off easy exit to the outside.

To Hurricane hwhispered with delight, "I'd say that means the house has decided to play." Ethan didn't try to hide his grin. He'd been hoping, like almost every time he had come to the house, that it would make things interesting. It never seemed to harm people, just shake them up.
The serpentine dragon gave a sigh. Nice and layed back most of the time, Ethan loved to have actual, or stories of, adventures. one of the few other things that he got enthusiastic about was helping people. Hurr juust hoped the house didn't make things too interesting.
Ethan waited. Now is the time for instructions by normal adventure timelines, plus they needed to know what was planned. Besides his face, he shows only patience. Avid interest shines in his eyes answering the purple glow of the mysterious boy in the shadows. Soon it would all start.

Maya couldn't help but agree with Laertes. She smiled at him and leaned in further, as if they were sharing a secret. "He is more than a little strange," she whispered. "I wonder what he's mumbling about."
As she finished her sentence, she saw the light growing dimmer, and as she looked over, the door swung shut, and clicked with an ominous formality. "Looks like it's about that time..." she murmured, nudging Laertes lightly, her eyes glittering with excitement. Maya wasn't afraid of the House, but perhaps she should have been.
It was then that she heard the small voice again, coming from the strange boy with the jellyfish. He had just proclaimed that the other boy, Ethan--she thought it was, would die.
"Everyone's going to die someday," she said to the group as a whole, in response to Intus' creepy fortune.
"So, what are we searching for?" she asked, looking to the older Forgotten and Legends. "This is a scavenger hunt, right?"

"Death is nothing to fear." Otium stepped forward towards the children and spoke in his low rather deep voice. He wasn't monotone but he seemed always to be very terse and straightforward.
"You know us.. and if you do not.. we know you. Introductions may be in order for the three of you as you will be working together." He took a step back and tapped the door behind him with his cane. It swung open with a force he certainly hadn't put into it, and it slammed heavily against the wall behind it. It seemed the hall beyond wound off into darkness dotted with points of candlelight.
Was it their eyes or did the outline waver? As if it were flowing, as if in something alive?
Alejandro crossed his arms and rolled his eyes slightly at Otium's overdramatics. He hovered them for a moment above the floor as if ready to leave.
"I'm in need of some ingredients." Chandra stepped away from the shorter vampire boy and distributed to each of the children a piece of paper. Each paper had on it three different ingredients.
Alex fluffed his hair from his floating position. "Long story short. Chandra needs these three things. You guys can read. They are all in the house.. but well it's just really a hassle to do it ourselves when you are all around. You guys can team up or go together... I'd advise teaming up. I'll be around if you need help.." Alejandro's form hovered back into the shadowed hall until all you could see were his lavendar eyes glowing, "...maybe."
He had disappeared back into the hall with barely the sound of his coat fluttering. Otium thought perhaps they were being ridiculously serious.. but he felt it was more interesting this way.
"You find the ingredients, you bring them here. We'll all be around somewhere, to help or just observe, who knows. You children these days don't have enough... adventure."
Chandra just watched them all with her serious, predatory eyes, "The wings of a Death's Head Moth, a human hand, and spider venom. You all can read. Please be quick if you can.. and don't get lost." There may have been a smirk there, if only because she knew what this house was capable of.
Otium himself smirked just a bit, "Off you go. Do be careful. You all know how the House can be. When you are all ready, we'll be here waiting." He rested his hand on the head of his large daemon nearby and the two disappeared into a doorway that noone had seemed to notice right behind him.

Looking down at the short list of things to acquire for the "scavenger hunt", as these teens were calling it, Maya felt a tiny bit sick to her stomach. After all, she needed a hand.
"You can't be serious. What's all this about a human hand? I mean, the other stuff, that's fine. But a hand? Gross!" She paused and looked over at Chandra. "Are you planning on bringing it back to life?" she asked the older Legend with a nervous giggle, curious what her powers were. She looked like she enjoyed associating with the darker side of life, but Maya didn't know if she could bring things back from the dead or not.
Flipping her head around, she looked to the other boys, wondering if Laertes was coming with them as well. She seemed to get along with him best--these other two were a bit odd. She'd need at least one sane person with her. Who knew what the house would do...
"We should all probably stick together," Maya said to Intus and Ethan. "We can all get lost together if it should happen." She nodded and then looked down the hallway.
Mortality squeezed her arm tightly. Danger was afoot. She had a sneaking suspicion that the entire scavenger hunt would be spent bargaining for their lives. "Are you guys ready?"

Ethan gave Intus a curious look. Seems to him and Hurricane that the boy with the floating jelly fish is odd. Maybe he thought the same about themselves. Well, either way, the scavenger hunt was starting.
His smile faded as he found out what the list contained. Chandra plus these ingredients made Ethan inclined to think it was dark magic. The only thing all the items had in common was death.
Listening to his thoughts, Hurricane reminded him, "Our guardian said that it's not the magic that is evil or wrong, but how it's used." She wasn't thrilled with the list, but it didn't garentee an evil spell. They hadn't learned much about magic yet, so how much could they really tell by the ingredients.
Ethan relaxed at her words and turned his attention to the others. No longer as cheerful, but relaxed, he spoke, "We're all set to start, and you are probly right about sticking together, if the house lets us." Like an after thought, which it was, he adds, "I'm Ethan and this is Hurricane."

"How unlucky for this house, to have Death's Head Hawkmoths flying about. Bees oh bees, oh wheres can you bees? Honey and hives Turn into traps and knives And brings the sweet moth to its knees." Intus rang in singsong. His eyes were wide and unblinking as he spoke from his spot on the floor. His demeanor changed from moments before, and seemed rather trancelike.
Intus hand rubbed his neck as if it was hurting him, and he slipped out of his previous state. "Death's Head Hawkmoths, they aren't allowed in the alley. Dangerous omens." Intus was speaking to Two who was just hovered above his knees. Intus rolled his head onto his shoulder and sighed. He was rather upset that the lavender eyed fellow left the room. Well, he seemed to have left the room, Intus was pretty sure he was still around though. But the thought of being alone with the other two children was not a comforting thought. Intus wasn't sure if the older members in the room were overlooking the dangers of the house or if they were placing confidence in their abilities to survive. Either way, Intus shivered at the thought of drowning in the evils of the house.

Chandra answered Maya's question calmly and without expression. "I do not believe that will be necessary." She looked like she might say more, but Laertes interrupted loudly - his voice echoing oddly in the rather silent house.
"Ignore her," he seemed to be addressing more than just Maya and glared openly at Chandra, "If we stick together, we'll be fine."
Chandra nodded slightly, unconcerned, and then looked at Intus - who she rather wished she could get alone and question.

Maya gave the older girl a curious look, and was interested to see what else she would say. But before she could, Laertes interrupted her.
"We will be fine," she agreed, giving the boy a confident, agreeing grin. "Shall we get on with it? We can't stand around here forever. Nothing will get accomplished that way." She looked to Intus and Ethan, and held her arm up so that Mort could see them more easily.
"I guess I don't really know you guys," Maya said, prepared to introduce herself. "I'm Maya, and this is Mortality. Mort for short." She petted the top of the golden worm's head, hoping he felt like being social.
The daemon loosened itself from her forearm and propped itself up in the air, wriggling around in greeting. Hello everyone. I hope I can be of some assistance to you during this little fiasco.
"C'mon Mort, it's going to be fun."
Yeah, right. His emerald-like green eyes sparkled with an inner light, and he curled himself around her arm once again, keeping an eye out for any strange or sudden movements.

Ethan raised an eyebrow at what Chandra said. He'd be interested if she started talking about the spell using these things. Of course, Chandra didn't get much out before Laertes spoke.
Since he'd already introdauce himself and Hurricane, he didn't speak, but she did. "It's nice to meet you two." Perhaps she wouldn't term this a fiasco, but the two seemed nice and helpful. Next would be the odd boy and his daemon's introduction, if they follow the normal way of greetings.

As Maya was making her introductions her dameon caught Intus’ interest. A shiny little gold bug, it made Intus squirm. Not in a bad way mind you. He just found them rather fascinating; and this one especially so, since it was also shiny. The motions of the worm were mesmerizing; Intus loved things that captivated him, it helps him to focus on things.
“Bees?” Intus spoke outloud. It surprised him, as he wasn’t really sure what made him say that word. He stuck his palm over his right eye and started to rub in a rather confused fashion. As he was rubbing his right eye, his left eye caught a glimpse of the tall pale woman giving him an almost inquisitive look. Her owl-like eyes were haunting, and Intus looked away. He felt naked.
Intus’ eyes searched the floor. He was hoping that she wasn’t looking at him anymore and searching for something to occupy his mind. The house was rather dusty and he could see his footprints he made when coming into the house. Fifteen steps. ‘How old am I now? I can never remember, I’ll ask Raven when I get home. Maybe I should go home.’ Intus head whirred with mindless thoughts. He didn’t even notice he was staring at Ethan, who looked like he was waiting for something. ‘I think that once I had OCD, but living with Raven put that right out. Wow, I would die living at that house. It sounds like a disease rather than a disorder. I’m sure hungry.’ Oh, Intus stopped with this last thought and finally stood up. “I’m hungry.”

The dawdling didn't seem to please the house and under their feet it seemed to rumble, as if deep down it had a very hungry belly.
The door that Alex had slipped into, the waving hallway of light, slammed shut and on another side of the entrance way, another flew open. Beyond it looked just the same as the last, waving spots of candlelight.
Get on with it, the house seemed to say.
