Gage was intelligent enough to start floating hurriedly after Rune as soon as the other began to move. While he was still rather juvenile in most of his mannerisms, even a child knows that giant kitties are not quite as fun to interact with when they want to eat you.

"I hope you live," Julian replied with all of the emotion he could muster. It was apparently not enough, as his tone was not entirely convincing. With a small grunt he turned himself away from the woman about to be lowered onto her possible impending doom, and moved to take the pilot's seat. Calloused fingers switched off the autopilot, and with a jerk of the controls the usually logical man was sending the aircraft straight towards the Sphinx.

The helicoptor's speed picked up quickly, and it took a surprisingly short amount of time for Julian to manuver it directly above the loping, colossal feline. He took a moment to note she had not yet caught up to the unicorn incarnates before he motioned with an arm for Orestae to begin her descent. "Be careful."

Naturally, Orestae was already halfway down the ladder by the time Julian gave her the go-ahead. She climbed as steadily as one could on a rope ladder attached to a helicopiter hovering a few feet above a giant, angry, and supposedly mythological animal.

The entire situation spelled death and dismemberment.

"HEY. ******** YOU. STOP IT. YOU'RE THE WORST p***y I'VE EVER HAD!"

She could hear Rune yelling as he ran, though his screams were dimmed by the rush of wind as the copter kept pace with the raging feline A few moments later, and Stae dropped into the shifting mass of muscle and fur that was the Sphinx's back.

So.. what now?

Stae knew only that she had to somehow attach the bottle to the Sphinx, but not where or for how long. And having come unprepared, the lab intern did the only thing that made sense - she pulled the ballpoint pen from the pocket of her now-wrinkled labcoat and stabbed it throught the small ring on the bottled.

Right between the raging beasts shoulderblades.

As soon as the tip of the pen pressed into the enormous feline's fur, it let loose a horrible howl of pain. Paws slamming hard into the sand, it stopped cold in its chase of the two boys and became much more interested in destroying whatever thorn had dared to p***k its back. With a thunderous growl, the Sphinx began to raise itself onto its rear legs, preparing to flop onto its back to crush whatever adversary had been upon it.

Fortunately, Julian was paying attention.

"Not so quick," he hissed between his teeth as with a few button presses and a yank at the center control stick he turned the aircraft to face the irritated creature. He slammed his free hand onto a panel he had previously ignored, pushing a control all the way to the right. It was hardly the most dignified of manuvers, but he was sure it would get the Sphinx's attention.

"Here, kitty."

The young scientist's voice rang out crisp and sarcastic through the helicoptor's exterior loudspeakers, and instantly gauged the Sphinx's attention as it was supposed to. "Follow the birdie... Orestae, if you're still living, I'm going to swoop back behind this thing in a minute. You had better be prepared to grab onto the ladder, I'm not going to try this more than once."

Co-worker first, Julian thought privately. Then the children.

Stae's hands immediately closed around thick clumps of her, saving her from a two-story or so fall from the back of the enraged beast. She clung on for her life, screaming obscenities as the beast lurched forward once more and began racing after the copter. She could see Rune in the distance, leaning over and panting - the little b*****d had barely had to run, and he was already probably complaining.

He caught her eye, and apparently took the hint when she flung her hand up towards the helicopter. With his rainbow wings spread wide, he took flight. Hopefully, Gage would follow suit.

"Oh ********. ********, ********.." Stae whispered, clinging to the bottle with one hand, and the sphinx's fur with the other. Just as the ladder looped around behind her, there was a bright flash. One hand snatched at the ladder, while the other held tightly to the now soul-fillled bottle. She could feel the muscles slow beneath her feet, and as the copter rose and pulled her into the air, she felt the sphinx sink from beneath her, silent and still.

Orestae

Julian had not taken the ease in which the Sphinx's soul would enter the bottle into account when he had formed his plan. Countless possibilities had passed through his mind, twisting his stomach into knots, but not one of them had considered maybe things would turn out easier than he anticipated. As the giant feline fell forward, the young scientist let out a hasty breath he was unaware he had been holding.

Why, the situation was almost painless with the monster out of the way.

With a quick glance to one of the monitors to make sure he was not running low on fuel, he flew the helicoptor slowly downwards. Orestae was climbing her way into the aircraft, and her charge was actually flying his way there. All he had to do was pick up the unfortunately flightless Raevan still left in the sand, and the nightmare of a trip was over.

Finally... over.

"Never again, Orestae," he hissed.
