-Alia's Dream-
It was dark. So dark, in fact, that not even Alia could see in the dim light. Wait...she didn't even have eyes at the moment. That's right...she was being transferred to the next stage. This was only a tiny moment of interim in between the two, and in a short bit, she would be able to see once again.
However, as her processors wandered about her chip, she found something strange: a different kind of darkness, a place of no existance. She prodded it, waiting for some sort of response.
Nothing happened.
As all scientific experiments must be done in threes, Alia poked the blankness a second, and then third time. Still, nothing happened. It was only when she began to divert her attention away from the area that it began to open, and it's contents rushed through her, streaming in new data.
There was yellow...yellow? That didn't make sense. Her processors went into a sort of 'fight or flight' way of thinking, and Alia suddenly felt very insecure, as if she were openly unable to answer a question. She didn't like these knew thoughts, as they were affecting her negatively, and she tried to force them away, but they only came back stronger, sending her into a mental shivering fit, newly aware of any kind of danger to herself and others.
The yellow faded, and was replaced with a soft, then deepening blue. This sensation, too, was negative, but it wasn't quite as powerful as the first. Alia then decided that she was suddenly aware of not just her own, but every single negative aspect around her. It was not logical, and yet, she could not banish them from her thoughts.
And yet, the moment she accepted it, the blue jumped into a bright orange, followed by a rush of energy, and thoughts that included jumping about and running around like a child. It was in this sensation that Alia felt most at home with, and she curled up in it, for once not concerned with how she was broken.
It seemed now, she was fixed.
However, the orange faded soon as well, and was replaced with the dull lights of the lab. Alia was waking up. And yet, no longer could she find the yellow, blue, or orange, anywhere in her comprehensible data. It was strange...but how would she explain colors to others when they had been so different from her normal thoughts? What if it was a virus?
Alia hopped down from the table, examining her new self, then decided to put the information in the back of her mind. Distracting thoughts did not fit in with the kybernetik she was, and these were about the most distracting she had ever had.
But still, the question remained...what were they?

Log 9 In Which Alia Helps Kluster Help His Dad...Fallen_kitsune_thief It had been a while since Sophie had taken a break acting as the greeter for the labs, and she was so tired, she didn't even think of the consequences of leaving Alia on her own. She was a big girl, now, and Alia wasn't the type to get into trouble anyways. With the adult out of the main center, Alia found herself rather alone.
Of course, it didn't bother her. It gave her time to try and once again decode the strange dream that she'd had while in mid-growth. In that short period of time, she had become acutely aware of something...but what was it? The foreign thoughts did not fit in with her usual, logical data, and she thought about deleting them and forgetting the whole incident had even occured. But, she decided it would be best to ask Sophie before deleting any data: a task that delicate could easily be done wrong.
So, with extra time on her hands and nothing to file, Alia stared at herself through the fuzzy reflection from the dim computer monitor, blinking slowly to take note of her new, good eye. It was a step to being like the others...but what was still wrong? This question was the only one Alia was unable to ever answer, and the one asked most often. Shad Croly Kluster readjusted his jacked as he trudged his way through the streets. Shad was back home, once again under the influence of the medicine the doctor had given him and watching Titanic again and it was currently up to the Pre-Adolencent to do most of the chores.
He pulled his list of chores from his pocket and crossed off the bank visit. Next stop was Doc's lab. He need to ask him if he knew anything about medicine to help dad. The kybernetic took another left on the street, seeing the lab down the street.
He pushed the glass door open, feeling his systems warming up. "Doc, are you here?" He called. Kluster surveyed the lobby, not noticing anything at default. "Hello?" Sophie C. Bell Alia turned from the sudden noise, blinking from reflex, then rose from her seated position at the counter, staring at the figure. The voice was vaguely familiar, and so was the face, though nothing exactly matched any data she had on the other kybernetika.
"Kluster?" She asked, tilting her head as she blinked once again, seemingly fond of the new ability to open and close her one eye on the human half of her face. "I wasn't aware that you had proceeded to your next form already." Alia started to wonder just how many of the kybernetika had made the sudden change other than herself and Darsais, but decided she could best find out later from the doctor. Speaking of which...
"The doctor isn't available at the moment, but I am able to give him a message." Technically, she could wake Sophie, too, but the elapsed time for a power nap had yet to pass. "What is it that you need." Shad Croly Kluser pretty much jumped out of his circuts when he was suddenly greeted from seemingly out of nowhere. He picked himself up off the floor, dusting himself off for a moment as his attention was placed solely on his greeter.
It was a Kybernetic of blonde hair, glimering violet eyes, a violet harlequin style outfit and a voice, to Kluster, that reminded him of a raspy whisper on the virge of death. His data files all pointed to the girl being Alia, but there was something off...
"Alia? You look," he paused. "Different...but, in good way." The prototype kybernetic shook his head, an old habbit he developed whenever he restarted his processors. "Um...yeah, I was going to ask the Doc if he knew anything about medicine." Sophie C. Bell "Yes: I have proceeded to the second stage in my development. As have you and Darsais. Sophie calls it the pre-adolescent phase," Alia commented, nodding as she walked out from behind the desk, shaking her hair from her face, as it was obstructing her view. "My upgrades have included some human facial features, so that I don't look quite as robotic. So far, jusging by human vital signs, it has put others at ease in comparison to my previous form."
She looked from the list back to the boy. "I have certain data files on medicine, if that is what you need. What would you like to know?" Shad Croly "Some kinda of anasthetic or pain reliever that doesn't have any kind of hallucinagenic side-effects," Kluster replied. He made a mental note that the actual saying of his medicinal needs sounded a lot less weirder in real life then he was anticipating.
"And," he paused again, trying to pick his words. "I...kinda likes how you looked. Sure, you scared me a lot, but I always thought you were pretty cool; and I also think I may know what you mean. Look at me," he idly traced one of the metalic plates on his hand. "I've got a metal plates all over me." Sophie C. Bell Alia nodded, staring at the boy with not even so much as a smile. "Sophie decided it would be best for me to have a more humanoid face so I wouldn't alienate myself from the other Kybernetik children. Even though most of us are created with metallic enhancements, no one else had a face with eyes incapable of blinking. This way, it is easier for the others not to be afraid of the differences." She didn't quite understand the concept of fear, but she knew it was enough to cause people to do irrational things. It probably made more sense to Kluster: she was just relaying the data she knew.
"Aspirin is a common over-the-counter medicine that relieves the patient from minor pains, if that is what you mean. It has a considerably lower risk of addiction than morphine, and it is much more easily obtained. In fact, I think Sophie has some in her room." She turned, climbing up a few steps of stairs to the residential area of the lab before turning back to Kluster. "Would you like me to get some for you?" Shad Croly What Alia said made sense. He'd studied the kind of emotional reactions that some of the interface testers for the AIs an ENCOM and had felt that seeing a more human face on a machine made them more accepting. In truth, making computers more addaptable to human environments was one of Shad's main tasks at the computer company. Kluster didn't mind it when Alia had been in her previous form and unable to blink, though he felt more comfortable around her with the new modifications. The thought alone tugged hard at a few of his emotional processors.
The Kybernetic nodded. "It'd need to be something stronger then regular aspirins," He replied. "My dad had surjury recently and he's still in the recovery process." Sophie C. Bell "I see...well, then, it's likely that he needs a prescription of some kind. Did he give you a doctor's note or anything similar? I don't have anything in my files on stronger medication, so I'd need an outside source to help you further." Alia hopped back down the stairs, looking to Kluster's list as if perhaps the name of the medicine was on there.
It wasn't long, though, before the kybernetik's mind began to wander back to the dream she'd had...for that one moment, she'd caught sight of exactly what was wrong with her, but even now, she couldn't replace what had been lost after the transfer. There was no way to recollect her memories, and all she could do was rely on the little bits of information she had.
"Kluster...have your thoughts ever been in color before?" Alia blinked, nearly apologizing for the absurdity of the question. Thoughts didn't come in colors, and she knew this well. Still, it seemed the only way to describe what she'd experienced, and she had a hunch that Kluster could fix her, or at least identify her problem. Shad Croly "Color?" Kluster raised an eyebrow. He didn't quite get the question, his processors racing through every bit of philisophical knowledge it knew from Shad's mom's old books. He remembered that colors had some significance to emotions and such, like blue having a representation of sadness and red being one of agression or rage, but not much else beyond it.
"Well", he began. "I'm not quite sure what you mean by color, but do know that they aren't just binary. My dad says that an AI's personality is the best way to define who they are. They learn to think the way their personality is shaped and it makes them more human." He shifted uncomfortably. He hopes his processors were right in telling him it was a logical reply. Sophie C. Bell Alia nodded once again, though it was impossible to tell whether or not she was satisfied by the answer. She took a moment to add his words to her data, just slightly slower than the normal comprehension rate of a kybernetik, then looked up to stare Kluster in the face once again. "That must be it, then: in the process of being temporarily shut down to go to my next stage, I had thoughts in color. Using colors is the only way I can describe it because the data doesn't process for me anymore.
The kybernetik blinked with her good eye, still seemingly befuddled, then started up the stairs again. "In order to get the proper medicine for your..." She paused, recollecting what Kluster had called his human. "...dad, it would be best to ask Sophie, who is more knowledgeable in human things." She hopped up the stairs, leaving visibility after turning a corner.A few moments later, a very tired-looking Sophie came down the stairs, yawning and stretching her arms as she trudged towards her desk. She sat on the ledge, looking up with a slightly agitated glare to Alia on the staircase, who didn't seem to notice, and then changed her expression to a weak smile as she looked at Kluster. "So...I hear you need some medicine, eh? Did your dad tell you which kind?" Sophie yawned once again, sincerely trying to be more interested in Kluster than sleepy. However, it didn't seem to be working. Shad Croly Kluster let out a breath of air as Alia had left and her presence was replaced with her owner: Sophie. Some small code in his emotions programming was sending out a code of disappointment in the change of company. He guessed it was because he didn't know if he'd helped Alia out at all.
The Kybernetic shook his head again. "Well, I'm actually getting it for him." Kluster confirmed. "My dad went in for surjury recently and the medicine the doctor's gave him may be a little too powerful for his system. I need something that'd be stronger then regular aspirin, but not as strong as the hallucinagenic stuff he has now." He felt himself blush as he wasn't able to remember what the name of the pills were. It was either Vicadin, or Valium; or even morphine for all he knew about human medication. Sophie C. Bell "It sounds like he's been on morphine, if he's hallucinating," Sophie commented, looking out into space to think for a moment. "I think I've got some medicine left over from my last incident with a nail gun, but I'm not sure...Alia, could you go check?" The kybernetik on the stairway nodded silently, then walked up the stairs, apparently knowing which medicine the young woman was talking about.
As soon as Alia left the room, Sophie glanced back down to Kluster, a grin spreading across her tired face. "I see you got upgraded, too, Kluster...that's good. It's nice to see you guys coming along so well."
Before Sophie could think of anything else to say to fill in the awkward silence, however, the sound of footsteps stopped her, and she looked up to see Alia coming back down the stairs, an orange pill bottle cradled in one hand as she walked. The robot handed the bottle to Sophie, who in turn looked it over before handing it to Shad. "Yeah, these should do fine for now. They might make him a little sleepy, but he certainly won't hallucinate." Unless he does LSD with them, Sophie commented in her mind, but decided it best not to say such a thing to the young boy.
"So, is there anything else I can help you with, or should I just leave you two alone?" Sophie ruffled Alia's hair, to which she got a response of "Please stop that," and in an instant, the cute moment ended. Well, the young woman supposed that it was difficult to have cute moments when the other participator lacked the ability to even be cute. Oh well. Shad Croly The idea of Sophie getting hurt with a nail gun, for some reason, didn't seem to surprise him. He didn't feel like making any remarks, since her incident did get him some medicine that should be safe to replace with the medicine Shad was on. He pocketed the bottle with a quick thank-you.
"Well, I should probably be going now," Kluster replied. "I left dad at home with Titanic: Director's Cut." The Kybernetic tried to cover up a wave of embaressment with a nervous laugh. "Again, thanks for everything and it was nice seeing you." He gave Alia a comforting look and smile befor turning heal towards the door. His cheeks began to blush again. Sophie C. Bell Sophie smiled, then headed upstairs, where her bed awaited and so did many sweet dreams. Alia, however, stayed behind, deciding to watch Kluster leave. Somehow, she just knew that he would be the one to help her determine her malfunction. If for anyone else, she would prove to the other prototype that, indeed, she could be fixed. Before he left, though, she decided to try something she'd been practicing for a while.
"Kluster?"
For the first time, Alia's voice had a tinge of emotion, a lingering want ringing from the voice that sounded so much shier when spoken with soft accents in regards to the mood. When she saw that she had his attention, she wiped the hair away from her eyes, and smiled back.
Yes, you read right, Alia smiled back. Granted, it was shy and insecure, but for all purposes it looked genuine, even if the female kybernetik knew it to only be an act she'd taught herself. The smile suited her, and it certainly would've given Sophie hope had she seen it. However, Alia didn't intend to show the young woman her feats until she had better mastery: for now, it was just a sneak peak among friends.
"Be safe, okay?" Once again, her voice sounded real, not the usual monotone it carried, and she bounded up the stairs after a short wave much in the way a child of her age would be assumed to act. The moment she reached the top of the stairs, however, her smile faded, and she once again became her usual self. She decided that she would have liked to see Kluster's expression upon seeing her own, but then Alia figured that she could just examine more closely when she showed Sophie. For now, she too would retire to the sanctity of Sophie's bedroom, where she could possibly get some rest. Shad Croly Kluster smiled inwardly. To all his knowledge on the Kybernetic, Alia lacked an emotions processor, and whether the emotion in her voice was true or false, he didn't care. She could do it, and that's all that mattered. He gave a slight nod in Alia's direction, even if she couldn't see it.
He left the laboratory in a content silence, his thoughts on Alia the entire time he walked. Fin.
