Half of my friends in the band are in TBS, PMA, and SAI. I'm not, though.

We don't have KKY at UM though. My friend at UofA told me about the fraternity though.

I'm a melo at Eastern Michigan University and our band is awesome! while we can't really jump into the compition pool with U of M's band right downt he street we definatly hold our own. It's great times! and the best part is that almost everyone in the band is a total band nerd because most of them are Music majors. there are a few weird ones like me that are just doing it becaue Band is my life and I would be lost with out it..

That's almost the opposite of the ASU band... 90% of the marching band is non-music majors. 3nodding

UM is about half and half. There are alot of music education majors, but there are some crazy things like Neuroscience and Public Relations majors thrown in there. wink

Heh... of those 90% at ASU, about 40% of THOSE are Engineering majors (myself included).

Most of the band at NCCU is music majors too. I felt so left out when we did't have band practice because of IMA. o.O

Just wondering how many college band geeks there are out there.

What college band do you play in?
What instrument?
Even if you aren't in college yet, who's your favorite?
Who would you want to play with?

I'm in the University of Miami Band of the Hour (HARRRUMPH!!) and wouldn't want to play trumpet anywhere else!

I play in the Greensboro College Marching Pride
Trombone
I kinda wish I could be alowed in guard like high school but trombones are a rare thing now a days

Hey! You're right around the corner from me. ^_^ I live in Durham and I go to NCCU. Anyways, it is kinda hard to find good dedicated trombone players and everybody seems to want more brass. One of our drum major candidates (he plays trombone) was told that he could only be drum major if we have 24 regular trombone players next year. Otherwise, he'll be like an instrumentalist/drum major. o.O

How come UM doesn't have a KKY? I crossed into TBS this spring and I already feel like I've done so much more for my band just by doing my duty as a soror.

But anyways....

I'm so tired of slaw people messing up our band program. It seems like in college theres a lot more slaw in the band and a lot fewer dedicated band members.

Yeah, my friend is in their MC class. They're always doing stuff for the band. Last week they spent 5 hours cleaning the band room. Bless their little hearts wink

Its kinda weird you meantion there's less dedicated band members in college. I think the reverse, actually. In high school the kids were all lazy bums and wouldn't do anything. Not that us college kids aren't lazy bums, but there's still a sort of group spirit.

That could be that we're considerably smaller than other schools like FSU or UF, who have like 450 kids. eek

Inform an ignorant, soon-to-be freshman. What the heck do KKY, TBS, and slaw mean? *is very confused*

KKY, TBS, PMA, and SAI are all national music fraternities.

KKY is Kappa Kappa Psi (I don't know much about this one because its not at my school). TBS is Tau Beta Sigma, a honor music sorority for both men and women. PMA is Phi Mu Alpha a social music fraternity, and SAI is Sigma Alpha Iota, a social music sorority.

I don't know what slaw means. I guess its just slang from Sydneyscivit's band. xd

KKY (Kappa Kappa Psi) is an honorary band fraternity. At schools with both guys try to do KKY and girls try to do TBS. They have the same basic purposes though, to serve the band and such.

NCCU's chapter isn't that big... about 33 members and 15 of them are my line brothers - Spring 2k5. They did get most outstanding and most improved chapter at the SED convention though. yay! lol.
