Feeling less defensive by the turn of conversation, Cedric led her straight into the 'kitchen' and pointed out the icebox for her use. "It had to be isolated so that they could choose when to really reveal themselves to the world. My people would welcome them, but there might be a lot of chaos involved in the celebrations and I'm sensing that they don't want that quite yet."

The only thing tamed about the cave was the orderly arrangement of furniture that attempted to deny the chaotic arrangement of walls and changing ceiling heights. In this room as in some others, wooden bracers added extra protection for the inhabitants, but no real wall or flooring had been put down.

"Yes well...people having to much ale to toast the appearance of dragons is hardely the biggest problem to your wonderful scheme on re-introducing dragon's into this world. There is economic, environmental, social and cultural bombshells that all the thinking in the world wouldn't have just one person come up with some brilliant plan to deal with." She said. "But I am glad they or you have tried to do it gradually. This is quite the spot. Are the cave's natural or did you use the dragons?"

"But I am glad they or you have tried to do it gradually. This is quite the spot. Are the cave's natural or did you use the dragons?"

"They are natural, or they are very old," he huffed, but he was not huffing because of her last question.

"Whenever I say something you assume the worst. What did you think I meant by choas? Yet I forget that you did not grow up in the courts like I did..." A sigh softened his tone. "In the courts, people don't say every thing that they mean. I was being sardonic and understating the matter on purpose-- or out of habit if you prefer. Every thing is implication, and infering is every thing. It's a sport I doubt you would enjoy, even though I noticed many of the women in Feretris engaging in something similar. Excuse me for asking, but, were you not of a high rank? Are you not one of the women allowed to have children? Here you would find no such restrictions, at least. I could take you out to see what my country is like, what my people are like..."

Clearly her father didn't want her to leave.

"ah..." Katrina said softly. He was right, Katrina had never enjoyed such things.
"I hate those games. I never wanted Isabel's responsiblity and never envied her. As far as I am concerned she can have the compound as long as she doesn't ruin it." She shifted uncomfortably, now unsure of if what he was saying was all that he was really saying.
"but I am stil a woman of rank, I have just forgone all the political neccessities. It wouldn't help me anyway, I doubt any request for breeding that I made would be granted. It isnt usual to grant that kind of request to a mage." Which was for the safety of her countries continued economy which thrived on the male slaves. By ensuring a certian number of mages, they could keep the males in check. Such wanton disregard of these 'retrictions' could lead to sever problems in breeding. Perhaps the effects would be apparent in the people of her father's country.

Katrina had, at the begining, almost ascerted to herself that she would return home as soona s possible. The compound would be going crazy try to figure out what happened to her, but in a week, they would give her up for dead, if they had not already. It would cause a commotion for sure. If anyone had an inkling that the dragon had headed over the mountains, Cedric's precious country could already be facing the threat of war. But she realized there was much she could learn here that would, if it came to it, at least give Feteris an advantage if she decided to return. If and when, is what she really meant...

[You can go back any time, you know, but Feteris and your compound are all you have seen. Sure, you have learned of other places, but don't you want to actually visit them! Stay with us, Katrina, this is the dawn of something new. Another hand is always welcome, and I know you can't pass up the oppertunity to learn about dragons. I think you sould stay ] Drxisisliege suddenly piped up in Katrina's mind. katrina slowly nodded to her self.

"As far as the compound is concerned, they probably think I am already dead. I guess it wouldn't hurt to see how your people live. But don't interfer when i decide I want to go back home."

For all his talk, Cedric was not thinking of war or what Katrina could use against his country if she stayed a while. "Here we don't breed so much," Cedric explained with a bit of enthusiasm. "Only the royal family is very picky about blood lines, but even they send their offspring out into the world. We pick somebody we like, somebody without a horrible disfigurement," he joked.

"So here there is no breeding program to screw up. If you met someone you liked, and he liked you back, you could marry him. Your kids might not have the magic you expect, but they'd be just as healthy as any kid in Feretris." His national pride was showing, but he was trying to keep it under check and focus only on his concern for his daughter and fellow human being.

"I want you to know how we live here. And as for interfering, I'm not the one with wings to take you back on."

Man, he sure talked a lot. Cedric had sat down at a table and forgotten whatever else he was about to do.

"Well compared to the breeding programs of Feteris, it does seem like a disregard for who you mate with. I must admit I am surprised that women would find a man that they liked in such a way that they would mate with him. It has been known to happen in Feteris, but it is still governed by rules. I'm curious as to how exactly your women co-exist with males."

To Katrina, men were so radically different in personality than women. Women could approach things level headed, while men....well there was a reason compounds employed men as soldiers. How could such a complex personality that made up the majority of females co-exist with the base thoughts and motivations of men?

Cedric snorted. "Tomorrow I can take you into the town, but you had better keep your lips sealed. If you get in trouble I may not do much for you. It is relatively easy to coexist with a woman. In fact, I live here with my wife."

Yet he had not taken Katrina to see her. Perhaps his wife did not even know she was here.

"You live here?" Katrina was shocked. She had gotten the impression that Cedric's surroundings had been more...cultured... "Where exactly would we be going. My geological education is limited to Feteris. Is it a big city?"

Cedric scratched at his head in thought. "Well... It's pretty big, yes." Feretris was bigger but he didn't have to tell her that. "My wife and I decided to live out here because of our work with these dragons. I could show you the nearest villiage, but the capital city is a ways off and I still have work to do here. You could go to the capital on your own but I don't advise it and I don't advise that you tell any one about the dragons here. We can handle ourselves in the word gets out, but I'd rather it remain a secret until the dragons chose to reveal themselves."

"I guess I could wait until you could come with me. If the courts are turely as you make them sound, perhaps I will need formal introduction from..." Katrina hesitated "...from a family member." She knew that was the best way to be revealed to any government. She also knew it was a good way to hint to him that she had been giving some serious thought to what he had said about being her father the first time they had met. She had become more open to that thought, and lately more open to things in general. She had been more linient than ever with the men, in light of the new discover and testing. It had been hard on all of Feteris, but the economy would certainly change because of it, and no man could be allowed to stand in the way of what was best for Feteris...at least that was what Katrina had once agreed with.
"Speaking of family, have you brought back other bonded from Feteras?"

"As many as I could," he admitted. "I tried to convince them to come over first, and they turned out to be the most willing. Young ones mostly, wanting adventure. I wanted their other halves to see a human face when they came through." There were familial and regional politics behind his actions; since Cedric disapproved of Feretris' ways, he felt guilty for leaving his children there and hoped, by this method, to remove many of them to his own country where they could grow up like "normal" children, even though many of them were teenagers already.

His bit his lip and his eyes narrowed as a sudden thought came to him. "I've been thinking of sending the princess' dragon to her. I'm sure she'd love it! What if we went with them just for a night? If our dragons agree, they can take us after dusk."

Aimus' environment suddenly changed. No longer was he fighting with the foot long silver lizard Seyu, who had leaped at him last time he remembered. He retained no memory of coming to this place he was at now, and had no idea what to suspect. To him it was instantaneous. As if he just woke up in that spot. He looked about him in confusion. He was in a small clearing in a forest. And... He rubbed his eyes to see if he was hallucinating. Large scaled creatures were everywhere! Large scaly multicoloured creatures the size of a house stomped through the trees, accompanied by smaller, horse sized monsters. The children he presumed. He ducked out of the way as a large tail swooshed past him. He backed up to the trees behind him, looking on in awe as the dragons turned to look at him as well. He continued backing up until his back hit a tree. He leaned against the tree and noticed he was shaking. He stopped himself as one of the dragons, a medium sized dark-blue one with a tail like a spiked mace, leaned it's head closer, sniffing him. He shut his eyes, looking away, hoping that he'd live through this as the dragon poked at him.

The thought of returning home started drifting from her immidiate intentions. She was allowing herself more and more freedom to disregard the nagging feeling that she had responsibilities at home. But the chance to explore the world was inticing.

"I think I would enjoy the chance to both explore and spend time with Drxisisliege." Katrina said smiling at the thought of being on Drex's back. "Although I must ask, who is this princess? Is she your daughter?" Katrina asked. If Cedric's children were the bonded and the princess had a dragon, that would make Cedric king. Katrina was a bit taken aback that C edric could refuse such a prestiigious position.

Cedric looked baffled a minute, then laughed. "No, my niece. When I came back from Feretris they had put another king in place, of course. My brother. What else were they supposed to do? I didn't want to cause trouble, and this worked out better for me any way."

A woman with blue eyes and honey hair tied into a wild bun at the nape of her neck appeared suddenly in an open doorway. It was not magic, but simple the unexpected quality of her arrival that made it seem nearly so. "Another has arrived!" she announced, and with her eyes glued on Cedric, it was clear who she was talking to. At the same time, her stare was vaguely distant and undefined.

"Well?" she demanded, "are you going to let the hatchlings harrass him to bits?"

Cedric pushed his chair back hastily. Not because he had been 'ordered' by a superior, but because his wife was justified in her urgency. Katrina might not be able to tell the difference, considering the woman's odd communication skills. She disappeared outside without saying anything to Katrina and Cedric made to follow her.

After several moments of silence, broken only by the dragon's curios sniffing, Aimus dared to open his eyes. The sight would have made him fall over were he not already leaning against the tree. Large horse-sized scaled heads surrounded him at every angle. A small moan escaped Aimus' throat as he looked back into their big eyes. A question struck him and he pulled his weight from the tree, the dragons heads moving back with his movement, giving him space. Why aren't I dead yet? He laughed a bit. "Why am I complaining?" He muttered, moving aside from the tree and hurrying behind it, peering around the wood. "You won't hurt me." He said, looking one of the dragons, a green one with a long thin snout, in the eye. "Will you?" He seemed more sure of his safety as the moments passed, but he refused to move away from the tree separating him from these giant beasts. Just in case.
