Nope. I'll take your word for it, I've never seen a Led Zep live performance. I just get the impression that Page wasn't as good at improv as Hendrix was.

From the songs. If you listen to a lot of Hendrix's music, a lot of it is improv, and you can tell. Page's playing seems a lot more... structured.

I'm right behind you stuntmonky. heart
So... As an audience and a guitar player myself, I do recognize how really good those guitarists you've mentioned are.
As far as I have researched, I only have mp3s of Yngwie, Hendrix, Steve Vai, Van Halen and Michael Angelo Batio (I was also able to watch his instructional video.) and after hearing them all, I remained loyal to Page.
In fact, these guys didn't even come close as to how much I like Page's guitar skills. (And yeah, I have a DVD of TSRTS!)
And my reason to that would be, Page's music is much more 'music' to me than those wailing guitars of Hendrix, Malmsteen and the like. But then again, we do have our own tastes in music.

I have 4. (in no particular orde): Page, Hendrix, hide, and Ken
You probably haven't heard of the last 2. They're Japanese guitarists. hide was a legend and a great guitarist. I mean, he can play that solo in Kurenai with such ease! Ken is the guitarist for L'Arc~en~Ciel. I can't point out anything in particular, but he's very good.

I just wanna say, isn't this question gonna be a little bias, asking who is the best guitarist in a place with a high concentration of led zepplein lovers?
Onto my fav guitarists: Mark Knopfler, Lindsey Buckingham, Peter Green, Jimmy Page, Dave Gilmour, Glenn Frey, Eric Clapton, and some more i prolly forgot.

Selcouth Kitty Isn't that spelled as "Hyde"? No. Hyde and hide are different people. Hyde is currently living and has a solo career and is working with L'Arc~en~Ciel as the vocalist. hide passed away in '98 and was the guitarist of X Japan-he also had a solo career and was with Zilch (an American band) and Spread Beaver (a Japanese band). hide and Hyde are quite different. ^^ hide is a JRock legend. Hyde, as of yet, is not.
