...I freak out...even if I'm the one who gets the pencil smudge or food stain on it...or even bends the cover of the book, I freak out...I have no idea why...also if the book has one of the plastic-ish covers where you can see finger prints from when you held it I always hold it on the binding or through my shirt..it scares my friends sometimes....
...once in a while though...if I'm bored in Math, for example, I'll write my name on the inside cover of the book....very carefully...and then I'll wait for the ink to dry or make sure that the pencil wont smudge before I close the book back up...

I'm a bit weird with this one...If it's a non-fiction book, I take notes all over it, highlight, etc. If it's a hard cover fiction book, I freak out if something happens to it. If it's soft cover, I don't mind highlighting the good parts.
As far as other people writing in my books...well, it annoys me, unless it is one of the non-fics I write in, and then I am sure to tell them that they can take notes on it when they borrow it.

...that's what I do when I get bored in class...

I tell my friends not to read my books when they are eating....I hate getting food/writing/marks on my book. Unless of course I do it myself. -has scribbled in his manga before-

I have never written in any of my books. If I want to make a note, or jot something down to remember, I stick a little post it on the page and write it on that.
However, my Literature teacher in my Junior year wrote in all of her books. At the end of the year, we had to get into groups and pick one of the books we read during the year to do a review packet on to help study for the State test. I was lucky enough to get her personal copy of The Great Gatsby, and seeing all of the notes and comments made it more interesting. It was fun to see her thoughts on the book, and then compare them to mine as I reread.

I don't write on my book per se, it's more of a collection of food and carious things that happen to fall into them. If I have a pencil in my hand, I'll probably doodle. In fact, a 5 page excert of Taming of the Shrew is almost completely destroyed by little flowers.
Also, I'm not very careful with my books, so I can always tell if I liked a book by the fact that it's completely destroyed. Some of my books have blood on them, from paper cuts, bitten nails and loose teeth. xp

I'm a bit nutty when it comes to the conditions of my books. If I care for a particular title or series a great deal, then no one touches them. If it's something I can easily replace or a mediocre title, then they, a few dog-ear flaps and broken spines aren't bad.

I don't write in my books, and I dislike the idea of others doing so. I'm not sure why; it just seems like a way to ruin the book, somehow. It's not too bad if it's in pencil, because at least then it's faint and erasable, but pen = no.
I don't even like writing my name in school textbooks. D:

I usually don't even let my friends touch my books. I get really nervous when they ask to borrow one. xD I hardly ever let them, even after they beg.

I will cut the unlucky guy's hands who dare to do such things. I can't even bear the sight of a slightly folded cover
