Okay. I've given up on the whole 'get rid of the paint' thing. xp I think all of those chemicals had a negative effect on him.
I can't really help it if I want to see something finished, can I? No.
Oh yes, I finally think I know what his element is. Ice. At least, that seems the most logical to me. 3nodding

Simara: *cough* not ice, cold *cough*
What was that, Simara?
Simara: >.>;; Figure it out yourself, dummy.
Umm, okay. O.o

Anyway, I'm thinking of putting his home outside during the winter, considering the heating is going to turn on pretty soon. I'm afraid he might melt or something. o.O

Raphael
Dear little pieces of paper,
I can't read my writing too well, but I like this color.
My items came the other day. It's nice to be able to write on paper my own size.
Anyway, Magiale left me a bunch of ice cubes the other day. It was very nice of her. I like the way ice cubes feel. It's just too bad they melt so quickly.
I brought some down to the basement where it's colder.
In ways, the ice cubes are helpful, too. If I bring them with me while I fly, their coldness makes me feel a little less tired. They can be heavy, though, but they become small quickly, so it's okay.

Raphael spends some solitary time in the shop:

Raphael stepped cautiously into the shop, but relaxed as he realized there was no one there.
Slightly cheered, he allowed him self to sit down in the middle of the windowsill and played around with a skittle.

Magiale had given him the skittle and told him to go socialize at the shop. Apparently it was Halloween, or something like that, and there would be people coming over to the house who shouldn't know about the feien.

The skittle was one of the yellow ones, of course, and according to Magiale it was very sweet and yummy.
But Raphael couldn't eat it. It was a bit too hard, and a bit too big for him to chew, so instead he tossed it back and forth between his hands, watching it spin around on the dusty windowsill.

He spent a good few hours at this, finding himself easily amused by the way it twirled. The patterns it made on the dusty windowsill also interested him, and he drew his finger through the snowlike substance, tracing patterns. Several shapes appeared from this exercise - an ice cube, a bowl of paint, a skittle, and lastly, a snake head, complete with wings and eyes.

Satisfied he'd spent enough time in the shop to fool Magiale into thinking he had been socializing, Raphael lit out the window, doing a few loops over some startled trick or treaters before heading home.

Wee! Halloween today. Great day, except apparently Gambino's Mansion blew up. crying Wow, I'm glad I spent my Halloween at home with friends instead of in Gambino's Isle. That must have been scary. My parents are okay though, which is a relief.
Anyway, I had so many trick-or-treaters that the candy nearly ran out. Luckily though, I had some bars and stuff from a couple years back that I could give to the last few. They won't know the difference, I hope. sweatdrop
I had to send Raphael off after the first few trick-or-treaters, 'cause one of them apparently saw him and it was a bit awkward. As far as I know, other people aren't supposed to know about the feien. Or something like that.
Raphael spent the day at the shop, I think. I also sent Simara and Aramis out of the house just in case. You never know, do you? Dunno where they went. Probably visited their friends in Hell or something.
Other than that, my day was pretty normal. Did a little schoolwork, a few things got taken care of, gave Raphael his first skittle....yeah, pretty mundane.

Raphael
I haven't met many feien lately. Maybe I'm not meant to meet others? I mean, it's obvious that I feel uncomfortable talking about myself and talking to others, and then our conversations sort of stop. I don't think I'm meant to socialize.
I've been a horrible feien. I think Magiale knows because she looks at me suspiciously, but I don't want to say what I did. What if she reads this? I feel awful about it though. Maybe I'll tell Simara? She's understanding.
She gave me a dictionary to look at today. She was tired of having to tell me the meanings of "slang" terms, whatever they are. The same with "metaphors" and "sarcasm", but I think I'll never understand it. I feel like I've disappointed her by not understanding.
She also says my element is cold. She's a genius, I think. Though I dunno what a genius is. I know it's someone who's really smart, or is really skilled or is naturally gifted, or one of those definitions, but how do you know which definition they're referring to? It confuses me.
The brown is beginning to fade on my hand. Which is good. I hope it makes Magiale happy.
I like the way blue paint looks. It's easier to see and doesn't make me feel bad in the head like yellow does.

Ianios flew into the shop, settling down beside the gemstone in the window. The sun was warm, making the gem sparkle. Ian went to it, hugging it. His eyes watered as he held the warm stone, kissing it gently. "Oh Celaien..." he whispered to it, a tear splashing down on top. "How I miss you..."

He left go of the gemstone, sitting down to look at it. Only a couple of days had past, but still, his pain was fresh as the moment he had seen it was his beloved. One small hand caressed the gemstone, Ian wishing it was warm flesh instead. He sniffed, deciding to talk to the stone like Cel could hear him. And maybe, in some small way, he could.

"Rynn said she'd try and get you for me, when the shop decided to sell you, or raffle you. Or whatever they do. I want to bring you back, Cel, I really do. I miss you so much! I even had a dream about you. Are you happy where you are, love? Is there light, joy, happiness, there? There isn't here for me. I can do nothing but cry. " He sighed, glancing to his hands, then back to the stone. "I wish you hadn't died!" He wailed, flinging himself at the stone again, hugging it to him.

Ianios let go of the gemstone finally, having sobbed a bit into it. He leaned back, rubbing his eyes. He didn't want to leave the gemstone here. But he couldn't take it home. Gods, he wanted this gem badly...he'd do anything to have it.

He gently rubbed the surface of the gemstone, sighing softly. How he missed Cel. He wanted no one else, only Cel. He didn't know a lot of the others, but he knew none could compare to his Cel. Hell, he had even made Nero uncomfortable...but Cel...Cel had never been uncomfortable around him. Neruo seemed to be alright around him, but he saw him as a friend. There were no others.

Ianios caressed the gemstone, closing his eyes. He started drifting off, picturing what could have been.

~~~
Thank goodness for trees! Without them, Raphael was sure he'd catch on fire, or overheat, or something. Winter was coming, but it'd be nice if it would come a little faster. Just a little bit.
He turned a sharp corner to enter through the open window and sighed with relief when he landed in the nice, cool shop. Thankfully, no one was there! No need for embarassment today!
Or was there?
He looked up sharply, and glanced around...hmmm, nope, no one- Eep!
Raph nearly jumped when he saw another feien, an adult, no less, with his head on a...what was that?
Raphael didn't want to awaken or otherwise annoy the green feien, but he was curious. What was that...umm...red thing?
He carefully stepped around the adult and crouched down to take a closer look at the stone, examining the cracks of black and the blotches of yellow. He could almost see his reflection in it.
He wondered vaguely what it felt like, and in response his hand reached out and attempted to find out, touching the stone lightly.
The hand quickly drew away. The gem wasn't particularly hot, but it was warm enough to make Raphy a little uncomfortable. He scooted a little ways away from it and decided to stare instead.
~~~

Ianios opened his eyes, having fell into an exhausted sleep. He looked at the gemstone, seeing another Feien reflected in the shiny surface. Turning, he gave the newcomer a slight smile. "Howdy," he said softly. He didn't want to frighten him, though he probably looked like hell.

~~~
Raphael almost jumped for the third time that day but quickly controlled himself. The other feien was awake! Eeeh!
He blushed, as he usually did around other feien, but still managed a smile.
"H-hi..." he stuttered. Involuntarily, he backed up a bit.
"I-I didn't wake you up, did I?"
~~~

Ianios shook his head. "Not at all." He glanced back to the gemstone, then back to the yellow Feien. That was a new color to him. "I'm Ianios...the gemstone here is Celaien." Was Celaien didn't sound right, and Ian vowed never to say it as such. "What's your name?" He was curious anout this newcomer. He seemed shy, so Ian wouldn't make any sudden moves.

~~~
"Raphael," he replied, glad that he hadn't been the one to wake up the other feien.
He remembered vaguely what Magiale had said about introductions, and said a polite "N-nice to meet you, Ianios."
And then turned his attention to the gemstone again. Hm. A stone had a name? That seemed a little unusual, he thought, but then again, his ice cube had a name too! Kinda. Sorta. Well, not really.
The name Celaien sounded familiar too, but he couldn't quite remember where he'd heard it before.
~~~

Ianios smiled. "Sorry about my appearance, been a bad last few days." And wasn't likely to get better, he figured. "Come, sit. I won't bite you."

He hoped to make the other a little more comfortable. He patted the gemstone. "I see you're interested in Cel here. He was once a Feien like us...but he died..." Ian's voice trailed off. It hurt still..and he didn't like thinking Cel was really gone. And he didn't want to upset the younger one.

"Anyway," Ian said, trying to brighten a bit. "What brings you to the shop?"

~~~
Died? Oh.
Raphael gave a slight frown at that news, but it didn't really upset him. He didn't truly understand what death was, after all, though from Ianios' state he figured it was bad. So he didn't say any more on the subject.
He obediently sat down a little bit closer to the other feien, though still a comfortable distance away from the gem, pondering the question.
"F-fresh air..." He mumbled as he sneezed on the dust. His hand rubbed at his nose. Boy, he was a horrible liar.
~~~

Ianios nodded. "It is nice out, I admit. But winter's coming...I don't like the cold much. I'm a plant Feien. I perfer warmth, like the summer. What element are you?" He was making a good attempt to engage the other in a conversion. Maybe it might make him a little more comfortable. Ian wasn't shy, but he didn't want to make the other upset or anything.

~~~
Raphael considered for a moment. What was his element again? It was either ice, or...what was that other one? Oh!
"Cold," he replied, a blush coming on his face again. What if he was wrong? Oh well.
"I-I don't really...umm, like warm things that much..." The blush deepened. What if Ianios didn't like him because he liked cold things? He decided not to mention that fact.
"Um...the summer's nice..." was his own pitiful attempt at conversation. Honestly, he wasn't even really sure what summer was like, considering he'd been born during fall.
~~~

Ianios smirked. "You blush as easily as I do." Even saying that caused Ian to blsuh. "I've met other cold Feiens, and so far, all of you are nice. And that's understandable of you don't like warm things."

He glanced to Cel's gemstone. "Cel here is a heat Feien, so he didn't like cold." He smirked slightly, patting the stone. He glanced at Raphael, a twinkle in his blue eyes. "You don't know what summer is. I can tell. Summer is hot. I was born in summer. Winter will suit you better." He wasn't being mean, but honest.

He glanced to the clock on the wall. It was getting late. "Well, Raphael, I need to get going. Celaien here won't bug you if you decide to stay." He stood up and bending over, he kissed the gemstone gently, whispering to it. Then he stood up. "Goodnight, Raphael. Hope to see you soon!" he told the golden Feien with a smile. With that, Ian buzzed out the door, back home.

~~~
Summer was hot? Humm.
He smiled and waved goodbye to the plant feien as he left. He couldn't help but be glad that he was alone...or was he?
Raphael looked at the gemstone suspiciously. It had once been a feien.. What if it was watching him? If it was, it probably thought he looked like an idiot, just sitting there.
Shuddering slightly, the cold feien stood and backed away from the gem, his blue eyes watching it nervously in case it made any sudden moves. Once he was out of 'sight' of the stone, he lit out the window, keeping to the shadows as he headed home.
Raphael
This looks very shiny and pretty when it's wet, but when it dries off I can't really see what it's saying. White is still a very beautiful colorl. But I can;t read what I'm writng.
Maybe black today? Colors are really fun to experiment with. Especially since different feien come in such nice colors. I remember I saw a purple feien once. No, I saw two purple feien once. I mean twice. I mean. Um. I saw two purple feien at two different times. Or...wait.
I looked at one of Magiale's grammar books the other day. But I think I'm just more confused after reading it.
She told me that I should write about things that happen to me in this journal. Is that how she said it? That doesn't sound right. hmm.... She said that I should write about my..."daily experiences" in this journal. That was it. No. It wasn't. My head is starting to get that pain again.
I met a nice feien named Ianios the other day. Not sure when that other day was, but I met a nice green plant feien named Ianios on that other day. I also met a nice red and yellow and black and shiny gemstone named Celaien. I thought that it was odd that a gemstone was named after a feien that I'd met not too long ago. But apparently that gemstone used to be that feien that I met not too long ago. I found that a little confusing. How can a feien turn into a stone? Odd. I wonder how he likes being a stone? It must be scary since he's not being able to move. Err, I mean, since he can't move. Is that right?
Raphael looked over his entry, the smallest of frowns staining his lips. Hum. It still didn't look right...
He shook his head and moved himself away from the journal, though the frown was still there. He wanted to write something new...but what was there to write about?
Days in the basement had settled into a boring routine. Inside the crate, Raphael found himself becoming restless. No amount of flying around at midnight or reading strange grammar books seemed to help him.
Perhaps...he should visit the shop again?
Nah.
Raphael stepped outside the crate and began to flit around the basement room, dashing here and there and daydreaming all the while. One minute he was a great hero and prince, come to save a princess. Then, he flew off to the table to become a great dragon with yellow wings. Off he flit again, then, to pursue some other idea at lightning speed, switching and turning and changing his mind again and again until eventually he collapsed once again in his crate, thoroughly exhausted. Phew.
Daydreaming was fun.
But it wasn't enough, was it?
Magiale fiddled with the heater, poking and prodding it and adjusting it and stuff until, after quite a bit of that fiddling, it was finally set to settings of her liking. Smiling a bit at her genius, the human happily skipped over to the basement door and danced her way to the bottom.
"Raphy! It's snowing!"
Simara peeked at Magiale from under her blankets, looking thoroughly annoyed.
"Did you turn on the heater?"
"Yep yep!" exclaimed Magiale with just a little too much pride. "All by myself!"
"Whoop-dee doo, good for you." mumbled the grouchy snake as she snuggled further into her blankets.
Meanwhile, Raphy, having heard his bonded's voice, floated into the room. He had long since lost his fear of flying in front of others, and in fact found himself preferring flying over walking.
"Snowing?" he asked curiously, "What's that?"
Magiale stopped and pondered for a moment, considering Raphy's question. Hmmm. How do you describe snow?
"Let me show you!" she finally said, smiling even more brightly.
Raphy nodded and floated after his enthusiastic owner quietly. They moved up the stairs, and just through the doorway...oooooh.
The little feien nearly jumped in surprise. Everything was...white! Small bits of white stuff fell and disappeared into the white that covered the ground. The once bare trees held the white stuff in great glumps.
"Anyway, Raphy," Magiale explained, "You get to live outside from now on! In the white stuff! Isn't that exciting?"
Raphy stared at her, surprised. Then he remembered that it was impolite to stare and looked at the ceiling instead.
"Your crate and stuff are going to be moved outside. Maybe we'll build a snowfort, eeh?"
A snowfort? Raphy saved his curiousity for later.
"Our backyard is really safe, so you should be fine." She finished. Though, briefly, a look came over her face that seemed just a bit suspicious.
Raphy didn't think anything of it.
A half hour later, everything was all set up in the backyard. Raphy's crate had been resituated in the shed, which had been emptied for this occasion.
"Simara is going to stay here too!" Magiale said excitedly, though a hint of doubt was evident in her voice.
Raphy nodded and escaped into his crate, where all his stuff was arranged the same way it had been in the basement. He liked it here. It was cold, certainly, but it also seemed....quieter. More peaceful. And the snow was so pretty.
"Lunch'll be ready in a minute! If you need something to drink, eat some snow!" She giggled at her own cleverness as she crunched back into the house.
Quote:
I don't think I realized it before, but change is nice. I've been feeling...what's that word? I keep forgetting what that word is. Anxious? Hyper? Nervous? Restless. That's the word. I'm feeling restless. Or I was feeling restless. Am I feeling restless still? I don't know. I thought that now I'm outside I'd stop feeling restless, but I think I still feel restless.
I've been lately trying to stop feeling restless. I think it's a bad feeling to have. Or is it a good feeling? I don't know.
Magiale said Simara would come out here, but I don't think she's come out yet. Maybe she has other things to do? I'd understand. She doesn't have to constantly take care of me, she has more interesting things to do. But she is a kind snake for dealing with me all the time.
I really like the snow. I think that's what it's called. It's very pretty and if I'm fast enough I can catch one of them. I've caught 5 of them already, but one of them I accidently broke. If I hold them for too long, they start to turn to water. I really like living out here. The snow is really pretty. The snow is really peaceful too. I like peaceful things. Even if I'm restless.
Raphael
Magiale sent me to the shop today. I wonder if it was a good thing that she did? Yes, it was a good thing. Magiale is a good person. I watched the other feien. There were things that I could here, and things that I couldn't, but I heard alot, nonetheless. There were these big group of feien that were all talking to each other. Once again, I wish I were braver enough to talk to them, but I'm not brave enough. I just watched them. I think I can say I understand more about Celaien, though. He's some sort of gemstone corpse, and someone is going to merge with him. Or he'll be resurrected. I remember there being some kind of notices in the shop. Maybe I should read them.
When I came back to my shed, I was alone again. It sounds ridiculous, but I'm afraid of being alone. I couldn't sleep for a few days, but I don't want to bother Magiale about it. Simara will stay with me eventually, and I'll be really happy when she does. And if she doesn't, it's becuase she has better things to do.
December 13th 2004
Raphael had spent the past few days outside, alone in the snow. At first he'd been somewhat afraid to be out all alone, but in the winter-time, it seemed that there weren't many creatures outside to be afraid of, and for the most part Raphy was simply that: alone.
It's not easy being alone. From time to time Magiale would come outside and give Raphy his daily meal, and each time Raphy would ask (politely and softly, for he still felt too bashful around Magiale to be demanding) if Simara would come to stay with him that day. And Magiale would look down and answer apologetically that no, she would not be able to come. And Raphael would smile, a bit disappointed, but not angry or sad, and Magiale and he would eat together, and perhaps they would chat for awhile (though it was really Magiale speaking while Raphael listened politely).
Anyway, several such days of this type passed by. At the beginning he had been too lonely to sleep, but as time went on it seemed to be all he did, for somehow the cold of the snow made him lazy and tired and relaxed. From time to time he would wake from his slumber, preferably during the nighttime hours. A weakling feien such as him would be doomed if an owl happened to spot him, but he was a lucky feien, small and hard to see, and a fast one too, if his speed was ever needed, and the nearby barn owl rarely passed by. As such, he was, as was mentioned before, alone and free to fly and frolic among the snow for as long as he wanted. For him, this could be any amount of time, as it pleased him.
Despite his freedom, he still felt a longing to see Simara again. Ever since he had gone to live in the crate in the shed, he had not seen her at all. She was like a mentor and a very close friend to him.
But he could do without her. It seemed to be what Magiale wanted him to do, and Magiale was a good and right person and knew what was right for him, so he would stay outside alone.
Dear Diary,
That snake. I do not like that snake one bit. Nope. Not at all.
Seriously. I long to strangle her.
Poor little Raphy never talks, except to mention HER, and it makes me not happy. I'm very not happy. Not happy. At all.
Boy, I do long to tell that feien the truth about Simara's disloyalty and shame. That horrid, horrid snake.
But I'm too soft-hearted. He looks up to her, sees her so highly, perhaps (I hesitate to say it) more highly than he sees me. It'd break his heart if he knew how evil she is.
Still, though, how Raphael could think so kindly of Simara is beyond me.
I have daily talks with him now, in a hopes to become closer to him, but it doesn't feel like I'm getting anywhere. I try to speak with him, to open him away from his polite replies, as well as stop him from looking away whenever our eyes meet, but bah! He does not cooperate, and it irritates me. My open-ended questions get shrugs and nods for responses. And those eyes of his always find a way to settle on my nose instead of my eyes, which causes me great shame, for I happen to have an ugly red splotch there. >.>;;
Anyway, diary, it is time to bring Raphael his meal; I hear the dinner clock yelling at me in the background.
December 18, 2004
"By the way, Raphy, Christmas is coming up!"
"Huh?" The yellow feien woke from his stupor.
They were outside having one of their meals, and Raphael had spent the past 15 minutes dozing off while Magiale tried to pique his attention with idle chatter.
"Christmas is coming up!" She repeated, smiling now that the fairy was paying attention to her.
"What's 'Christmas'?"
The question caught her off gaurd. What?? He didn't know what CHRISTMAS was?
After a few awkward seconds, Magiale explained it to him. At the end, she added, "Oh, by the way, I signed you up for 'Secret Santa'."
"Secret Santa?"
"Yeah. You secretly give a special something to another feien."
"Like a friend?" He looked confused.
She paused.
"No, you give it to a feien you're assigned to."
His confusion worsened.
Sigh.
"The assignment has already been given out." She explained. Then, from her pocket she withdrew a small piece of paper with instructions and a name in neatly written letters.
"Umm, you're going to secretly give a present to someone called...Mack-win-arr?" She frowned at it. "What a strange name!"
The piece of parchment was placed in front of Raphael, and he looked at it more closely. It took him a bit to read and connect the words to meanings, but he eventually understood it. Hmm. Maquinar?
"Anyway," she said cheerfully, standing up, "All you have to do is get a present to that feien, uh, Mack-win-arr, and you'll be all set! I have to get back inside, though. See you later!"
They waved to one another as Magiale shivered back inside, plate in hand.
And Raphael stared at the paper, a small frown of determination on his face as he considered how he would go about with this.
December 20, 2004
Raphael was in the basement.
He didn't really like being there, as warm as it was, but he had his trusty icecube with him. So he was okay.
Magiale had told him that he could probably find a nice secret Santa gift down here (as opposed to buying one) since she had all these old items. Problem was, Raphy didn't know what this Maquinar would want. He didn't know what they looked like, or what gender they were, or anything.
The yellow Feien touched down on the highest shelf and began his search. His feet left little footprints on the dusty surface as he pushed past the cobwebs to enter a rather dark, dusty, overturned box.
He held the icecube close to him with one hand while he felt around with the other, coming across all sorts of strange-feeling objects. They were all large, heavy, and, from what he could tell, certainly not usable by a fairy of his size.
Except for one.
Raphy paused as his hand came across something almost like a...stick? He could put his hand around it, but it was kinda heavy. Hum.
Dropping the icecube on the dusty ground, the feien placed both hands on the stick and, with a good deal of effort, dragged it with a scrapy sound out of the box and into the light.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
It was a lollipop! And it was green. He stared at the large object, amazed. It's top was encased in some kind of strange plastic.
Loud, clippy steps could be heard as Magiale walked into the basement-room, a tray of icecubes in her hands.
"Raphy, need any help searching?" She said with a smile, seeming not to notice the fact that her Feien was positively filthy with sweat and dust.
He shook his head and brought the lollipop out where it could be seen more clearly. "I think I found something."
Magiale's eyes nearly bugged out when she saw it.
"Oooh! I was wondering where I put that!" Laughter. She took it from Raphy and offered him her shoulder to sit on. "Sure! You can give this to Mack-win-arr. What feien wouldn't want a human-sized lolli-pop?"
She smiled then, and said, in a sly whisper,
"Just between you and me, this lolli-pop never melts, no matter how long you chew on it! Lets start wrapping."
Raphy nodded, not quite understanding what wrapping meant, but content nonetheless. The two went upstairs.
Unbeknownst to them, a glowing pair of amber eyes watched their departure from the shadows.
The door shut.
A voice broke the silence.
"Tsk, tsk, Simara. I've known you for all my life, and I STILL don't understand you. I doubt I ever will."
Aramis floated down from the ceiling, sneering at the purple snake below him.
She rolled her eyes.
"What do you want this time, brother?"
"I want to know the same thing Magiale wants to know, Sim. How come you refuse to stay outside with the bug?"
Scaly eyebrows were raised at him in disbelief.
"That idiotic question again?"
"Yes. That idiotic question. Answer it?"
She sighed, clearly tired of this foolishness.
"What I want to know is why Magiale wants ME to stay outside with that brat so badly. She's perfectly capable of doing so herself, and..."
She paused, giving Aramis the death-glare.
"So are you."
Ooh. She SO won that one. Aramis scowled, but was not one to be outdone.
"Fine! You know what? That's a great idea. I think I'll do just that."
He could keep company with an insect. It might be cold, but he was no normal reptile. How hard could it be?
