Feeling exhilarated, Chitsa continued to flutter about. Not only did she feel like a butterfly, she began to look like one too. Once in awhile, the mare glanced back at Roka with a huge grin on her face. But then she suddenly stopped, her eyes were focused on something. She squinted as she tilted her head at what was in front of her. It was a small purple butterfly that looked eerily like herself.

"Isn't that pretty Roka?" She couldn't help but smile as it continued to flutter along its way without a care in the world. She hadn't felt alive in the longest time; it felt nice to be up and about again. The world was full of adventure just waiting for her to get her curious nose into.

Endless was the moment at hand to Roka. He could trot around with Chitsa like this any day. It was surreal, even--he could have sworn déjà vu... Chitsa seemed like one of the butterflies he regularly danced with in the fields, back when he was but a foal. It made his heart warm.

But when she stopped, Roka could not help but feel a lick of worry overtake him. He was captured by every movement the mare made, and his worry fled instantly as a smile appeared on her face.

"Oh," he said coyly, "But you are prettier." He felt like teasing her, a display of a pleased smile expressing itself. But as soon as she started to go about again, it felt as if she was the one teasing him. "Oh, you..." he said quietly to himself, initiating his pursuit once more.

"Where do you think you're going?" he called back from where he was. "Going to flutter out of my life like the butterflies from before, eh?"

Gazing at him with compassionate eyes, Chitsa smiled warmly at him. She felt so 'at home' with him and so content. "You flatter me too much." The mare giggled to herself and let her wings flutter with glee. She loved spending time with him and would never waste any time without him. She couldn't imagine what life was before she met Roka.

She was so content she didn't even notice his sudden look of worry. Even if she did see it, Chitsa probably wouldn't have understood it...

As he said the last thing, Chitsa paused and waited for him. Looking down at the ground, Chitsa couldn't help but blush vividly. It was even visible behind her dark indigo coat. "Never would I leave you."

"Too much?" Roka replied, "There's never too much of anything. What the world has, and what is, is always of average amount. Otherwise, something 'too much' would not happen." But he didn't let his own "profound" moment waste away the actual moment. He strained every muscle in his body to propel him forwards, to quickly catch Chitsa before anything else caught up with her. An overprotective temper rose in him, perhaps originating from genes from either parent. It suddenly occurred to him that he would be crushed if he saw someone else in his place, with Chitsa. He shook his head at the thought, until she paused again. Roka ambled over eagerly, positioning his head right next to Chitsa's so that he could feel the heat emanating from her.

Her words echoed in his mind, making his own soul flutter in joy. Roka was caught speechless for an instant, to which he seized the moment by instinctively laying his head over Chitsa's. He led her into an affectionate cuddle, and this time, nothing told him to let go.

"And I, you," he whispered softly into her ear. "You make my heart flutter like the butterfly you are, Chitsa."

Although rejection was a possiblity, it never crossed Roka's mind, as the state he was in was pure--that of pure love.

Chitsa would never be able to imagine how her life would have been without Roka. The odd thing was, was that she felt like she had changed tremendously , but in reality, she didn't change at all. It was an odd feeling, and Chitsa was just about getting used to it.

When she felt him so close to her, the mare's heart skipped a beat, and she almost held her breath. Chitsa didn't know what to say, finally she realized that she was in love too. At least she got one thing.

For once in her life, Chitsa had no idea what to say. She just closed her eyes and nuzzled him affectionately hoping that this moment would never end.

Oh, how Roka wished the moment would last a lifetime as well. But it hit him--he had all the chances to be like this, too, in his lifetime... If Chitsa was with him. And more could be done in moments with Chitsa without this timeless contact. Possibilities were endless, but Roka did not yet comprehend them.

So he lingered in the embrace longer, though it did not seem long at all. He wished to remain forever standing by Chitsa, protecting her--her small frame and fragile wings fueled his desire even more so. "I am very fortunate to know a mare like you, Chitsa," he said softly. "I did not think I would ever find you. Will you...?" He stuttered, at a loss for words. Roka was going by what his heart had been guiding him to do, but aid was no longer available--what was to come was to be entirely from him. "...I love you."

Though he wished he could stay with Chitsa forever now, he knew time would come soon to return home. He could wander off for a few days like one of his teepee mates, Couscous, but something took ahold of Roka this day--a new sense of responsibility. He would need it later on in life, and it was grateful that the moments with Chitsa instilled this in his temper. The sadness of leaving left Roka quivering a bit in his stance, though the warmth of Chitsa kept him strong still.

Her eyes were still closed but then as he started to speak Chitsa looked up at him. He was everything that she imagined and she never thought she would fall in love. Her, of all people, she could see everybody else in her herd finding their true loves but she was just... different then the rest of them. But here she was.

And now, Chitsa could feel the earth spinning beneath her hooves as she listened to what he said. "I love you even more." She couldn't believe that she actually said it! There was no way that spontaneous little Chitsa could ever find love but there were no more rules now.

She didn't want to leave his side, and she couldn't bear the thoughts of leaving him even just for a second. Chitsa wanted to be with him forever.

The moment was surprising indeed. Two of the most unrealized prospects of each of their own herds... Blacks sheeps if the term willed it, even, and here they found each other. It was not change that had taken him, no, it was progressed maturity. And Roka could not help but sense Chitsa, too, had felt the same way, which put a calm gladness in his body and soul.

He managed a warm chuckle at Chitsa's words, as they still retained their level of unexpectedness. Even more? His mind pondered the thought not even for a split second before rendering it impossible. "Not even in another universe!" he replied heartedly. He instinctively knew love would be equal if both put forth their entire efforts into it, and he had a genuine trust in Chitsa that their hearts would last. He wedged into the embrace further and felt a duty to keep her away from all the troubles that dared to perturb her, and all the dangers that she may face in the future. He would be there to guard her.

Roka had never thought much of anything in life until now, really, always having taken things in the literal sense. In this moment of truth, he realized his feelings compelled him to find an exception in the mare standing beside him. And he felt free--freedom in another realm in which he had limitless opportunities to spend time with a forever promised companion. An eye flickered open as he moved his head so that Chitsa's own was underneath his, and he whispered to her, "One day we will fly..."
