You've been busy since your arrival to this island - meeting new people, trying to keep an open mind despite the strangenesses. All the while, you knew it was coming - not precisely what perhaps, but you knew that your future lay intermingled with the rest of the islanders.... it was only a matter of time. That time, it seems... is today. It starts innoculous enough. You feel uncomfortable, restless. The heat seems to be getting to you more today, and you are sweating. It's only later that you realize that you're running a fever. By then, however, it's almost too late. Your hands and feet begin to feel clammy, strange to the touch. It spreads to your wrists and ankles, and gathers again at the base of your spine, spreading to some degree around your waist. Before your eyes the tiny hairs on yoru arms, legs, and waist fall out as the skin becomes smoother, the color shifting. The veins stand out in your feet and your toes ache and then begin to stretch, a distinct webbing forming between the digits as they do. All the while your nails grow - forming claws. It's painful, but .... strange. A numb clammyness seeming to come along with the pain. Then, a sharper pain gathers at hte base of your spine as slowly, and ardously you begin to grow a tail. Not just a short nub, not even a longer thin tail, but a thick, rubbery and orange-banded one. The worst part, at the very tip the bones split fanning out and stretching a webbing between the clawed tips. Finally the changes settle and you're left with a strange mix of features. The only other accent - almost unnoticed among the other changes - is that your ears have lengthened and pointed, adding yet another bizarre, incongruent aspect to your new, strange appearance.

[new rp/journal entry]
It's been over a month since it happened, yet every day when I wake up, the fins are still there. My ears are still pointy. I'm still incredibly thirsty and longing for the water, and worst of all, I still have that damn tail. I crawl to the mirror every morning and almost cry when I see my reflection. My glasses are crooked now because of my stupid ears, my pants don't fit and it's -really- hard to do my hair because my hands are so big and kinda sticky. I never want to go outside again, I tell myself today as I lay in the bathtub (my only comforting place now) because this will only get worse and I don't want anyone to see me like this. At this point, I didn't even care what I was supposed to be turning into. It was ugly.

Tommy heads back toward his own duplex after the movie in the entertainment room. He's fuming right now, mind all a jumble. .oO(She probably thinks I'm crazy...hell, I may just be. But I swear to God that, that will never happen to me...ever)
The cadet, now test-subject, glances up at the other duplexes as he passes them. He counts silently to himself.
He needed to talk to someone. Anyway. He's normally not so outgoing, but damnit...this isn't normal. Sighing, he looks about at the other duplexes and picks a random one that seems to have a light on inside. Number forty nine.
He knocks on the door and waits.

A sound from outside startled me out of my thoughts. I slipped in the tub and floudered clumsily about for a few seconds before sitting upright. What the heck was that? I wondered. Then the sound came agin. It was a knock. But who would want to visit me??? I thought as I stumbled out of the tub and wrapped my huge plush towel around myself. "C-Coming!" I called as I pulled myself up and took one, two steps toward the door. I really hate walking now.

.oO(This is a bad idea...bad idea...bad idea...I should be talking to the guys who run this place...talking...heh, yeah, that's what I want to do to them. Sure.)
With a sigh, Tommy turns from the door and begins walking away when he hears a voice from inside.
.oO(s**t...too late)
He pauses for a moment, pondering whether to ding dong ditch or just see who answers. But what was he going to tell her? Why was he here? He sighs. .oO(I'm going out of my mind).

Finally, I reached the door and wrapped my huge hand around the knob. Shoot, I'm not wearing any clothes...what if it's a guy? Oh well, my towel goes past my knees, so I should be okay.. I opened the door and lost my balance, tipped over and fellflat on my face in front of my visitor.

Tommy glances at the door as it opens...and Ivy tumbles out. Being the gentleman that he is, he immediately goes to try and help her up. The split second before he touches her changed hand is quite the transition point for Tommy. This slams home the final nail on his coffin. Yes...yes this is really happening.
"Hey...hey there, you alright ma'am?"

I flinched as the man's normal, unchanged hand touched my mutated one. "Umm, uh...I mean...Don't look at me!!!" I cried, straightening myself and wrapping the towel tigher around my hideous body. "I-I mean...sorry. I'm Ivy." I apologised.

Tommy instantly removes his hand and steps back several steps.
"Woah...um...I'm sorry about this...I shouldn't've knocked...I'm Tommy." He looks more than confused at the moment as he averts his eyes from Ivy.

I sighed, debating whether to slam the door in his face or to *shudder* socialize. "Uh...hi. So, um, Tommy, you're new here, I guess. Obviously" I said, gesturing sadly at the tail protruding from beneath my towel, "I'm not so new here anymore. Uhm...would you like to come in? I, ah, need to get dressed first." I added, blushing.

"Oh no...I coudn't, I'm sorry. In all honesty, I don't even know why I came by...but yeah, you're right, I'm more than new here...just...I don't know, trying to get to know people, you know?"
Tommy looks to be increasingly more uncomfortable as the moments pass.
"Here...lemme help you up," Tommy offers his hand.

Help me up?? I tried to smile, but I couldn't. Instead, I let him grab my elbow and help me to my feet-er-fins. "Oh, uh, that's okay." I told him. "I was, um, just talking a bath." I blushed again. "So....."

"Yeah...Ugh...God...I'm really sorry about this...I'll let you get back to that then."
Tommy's looking more than a little embarrassed right now.
.oO(Damn...I just want to get back to my room and sleep...)
"But um...yeah, I'm in duplex 54...you know...uh...if you need anything."

"Alright, uh, thanks, I'll keep that in mind." I stammered. Who was more embarassed, me or him? I couldn't tell. I stumbled back inside the duplex and tried to hide my tail at the same time. "So, see you later, I guess." I said. Then I waved an awkward goodbye and shut the door.

.oO(Goddamn, I'm not thinking straight anymore...I need sleep...that's all...I can't remember the last time I was so tired...oh wait...yeah, yeah I can.) Tommy cracks a smile at the memory in spite of himself as he walks back to his duplex.
