Where I live, you can pierce a baby's ears at 3 months if they've had their DTP shots.
Personally, coming from someone with piercings who enjoys piercings, I wouldn't pierce a child without their consent. "Oh, but it looks cute..." Whatever. It's not your body, you won't deal with the potential infection.
I got my ears pierced at 10. I wanted to do it, my mom took me. It was my job to clean them and look after them. They'd get knocked around and cause me pain, and I had the ability to understand "Hey, let's not stand so close to someone jumping rope." Babies don't understand pain like that.
My aunt pierced my cousin's ears when she was pretty young. She was born premature, and I don't really know exactly how old she was when she got her ears pierced. Under 1, but as I was pretty young myself, I don't remember. Sure, it looked okay. But it's not a chance I would take with my kids.
When my son's older, if he wants to pierce holes in his body, I'll gladly take him as long as he does his own research ahead of time and understands the risks/care needed.

*claps for Kupi* It's actually kind of funny that the people here with the most piercings are the people saying NOT to pierce your kids.

I've had a total of.. 8 piercings, though I only have 6 currently. xd And maybe it's because I have a knowledge of what /can/ go wrong, and the type of care that's involved, that I don't see it as just some kind of simple thing. xd

And that's just current. I've had more, but lost them due to different accidents. I've done over 200 piercings on others as well, and the more research I do, the more I think piercing infants is just a REALLY bad idea.

All of mine have been above the neck. xd But I have a list of at least 3 I'd like to get done soon. I took one out because they wouldn't let me get an epidural with it in (Said it'd get in the way of starting my breathing again if it stopped. rolleyes ) and the other I took out to get my latest piercing. (Went from a labret to a vertical labret, and didn't want them to interfere.) I've never had an infection or had one reject, but I'm sure that's mostly luck. xd If I had a girl, I'd think about ear piercing her young, but I wouldn't really want to if she was more than 8 or 9. It'd be cute, but I'd care more for her wellbeing then her appearance.

I had mine done for the first time when I was very young.
When I was probably 13 or 14, I wanted to get a second hole in each ear, so I did. My Mom had 4 or 5 holes in one ear and 5 or 6 in the other so she was fine with it xD Anyway, one became infected and I had to go to the doctor who squeezed out pus while trying to remove the earring which had become stuck due to my ear being inflamed. The other ear was fine.
Then a few years later I got a third hole in one ear and re-pierced the other. Those all became infected as well as the second hole that did not get infected the first time. The only holes I have that are okay to have earrings are my first ones, done at a young age.
I took very good care of the newer piercings but they still became infected and closed up. Well, mostly. The third hole in my left ear(I think? can't remember which one has trhee)is completely closed while both my second holes are partially closed. Meaning you can't see the holes because they closed up in front but they're still there through the back and through most of the ear =(
I've thought of re-piercing them but I don't know, all the pain I had with them, it's not worth it to me, personally.
Because of that, I don't think I'll pierce my kids's ears until they can ask me for it. And even then, with my experience, I'm not so sure.

Lone, more likely than not, you're allergic to nickel. That would explain that.
Also, if you were using the "cleaning" solution they give you at Claire's, that'll do it too.

I never thought of that... The second set(the ones I elected for)were done at Piercing Pagoda so I used what they gave me. The third time was the stuff from Claire's. lol I'm not suprised that their cleaning solution isn't any good.

I think it should just be left alone for a person to decide when they get to a certain age.

I'm glad I had my ears peirced when I was a baby. I don't remember the pain (My mom says I didn't even cry) and my mom could really look after the peircings, without me saying "mom, leave me alone I know what I'm doing." Because she was in charge of my body, she could be 100% sure that everything went the way it was supposed to.

Personally, I wish my parents had pierced my ears when I was a baby. I'm a bit upset that they didn't. The reason is that I hate pain. I'm really weird about it. I can't stand needles and sharp things, anything involving that sort of stuff just freaks me out. I have a hell of a time just getting shots and blood drawn, so there's no way I'll ever volunteerly get any part of my body pierced, not even my ears. I just can't get up enough nerve to go through with it. If they had just done it when I was a baby, I wouldn't have known the difference, or remembered the pain, and it would have been done and over with. But since they didn't, I'll never have pierced ears or be able to wear earrings. ._. I mean, I can deal with it, not wearing earrings isn't a big deal, but I always have to make sure to tell people, especially guys, not to give me earrings as a gift or anything because I can't wear them. A lot of people seem to assume all girls have pierced ears. x_x

I don't see anything wrong with piercing the ears of an infant. However, I really don't see how a 5-year-old is going to go through life without losing an earring every other week.

I personally don't agree with it because the child should be able to make that decision for themself when they're old enough.
