Sin smile, as she too sat down with her soup, the contents sloshing dangerously as she set them down. Unfolding the newspaper, she looked at Makai over her glasses, "It's chicken noodle, but not the kind from a can, I made it this morning."

Gael bounced excitedly in her chair, her spooin hanging out of her mouth. "Sometimes mommy makes 'alphabet' soup and the letters spell things out!" Although she didn't think that Makai would understand, she thought that the letters in the soup was perhaps the most brilliant idea since sliced bread [a truely brilliant invention, FTW].

After a moment, however, she set down her spoon and turned to face Makai, "Will you help me with something after dinner?"

"Chik'n noodle," he repeated, making sure he'd remember the type. He guessed that things from cans must be inferior from the way Sin said it, not that he would know. Yule did most of the cooking, and he shoved everyone out of the kitchen while he worked. "S'gewd."

Alphabet? Like letters? The soup was talking- no food could't talk, it was writing? He found that... kinda weird. He glanced at his soup, just to be sure. Nope, just noodles and broth. Yummy noodles and broth. He spooned himself another mouthful, nomming happily.

At Gael's question, he swallowed noisily. "Uh-huh!" he said with a nod. Then he deflated and cast a guilty look at the door. "Maybe," he amended. "if's not too late. Should probably go check with Wyv an' make sure iss okie." He brightened again. "But other than that, yeah!"

[OMGSORRY! I GRADUATE IN TWELVE HOURS!]

Sin nodded, in agreement with Makai's comment. "You've been here for a while now, Makai, perhaps Wyv is wondering where you are?" She smiled her crooked smile as she drank in a spoonful of soup. The warmth was everything that she needed on such a day. "Gael can have her war some other time - you should go home, just so that your mummy knows where you are." She explained, giving Gael a pointed look, showing no emotion as the girl's face fell.

Gael sighed, resigning herself to the fact that Makai most likely was wanted at home - or at least, should go home and check. After all, politeness was one of the things that Sin prided herself in, and Gael wanted to do her proud.

"Uh huh. You should go and check with your mommy, and see if it's okay." She said, slurping noisily. "I can start myself, but it's just when the fighting starts, I want you on my side." She explained.

(( Congrats! <3 ))

Makai nodded at Sin, then concentraited on finishing off his soup in a hurry. The sooner he finished, the sooner he could check in. That meant he could get back quicker and help out Gael with this 'war' of hers.

However, he froze on hearing the rest of Gael's plan: an instinctual response of an adolescent male when he realizes that what he thought he agreed to is not actually what's going down. "Uhh..." he mumbled, covering up the motion with an over-eager spoonful of soup. Inwardly, he was wincing. Fighting? He wasn't sure about that. But he did have fun with Gael and the specimens today, he just wasn't sure how he felt about fighting. Besides, in his first (and only) fight, he'd been outgunned by Wyv. He had squirt guns, she had the hose. It was a foregone conclusion.

[wooo, wanna wrap this up so that we can start other arpees? I need to challenge and then avert a war with Sanar...]

Sin smiled kindly at Makai, "Don't worry, I won't let her drag you into anything you don't want to do. But it's getting late, so you should go home for today, and you can come back tomorrow or the next day to help this little warlord," she smiled affectionately at Gael, "on her quest for dominance."

Gael giggled, soup flying everywhere. "It will be fun, because my enemy is not someone to be trifiled with!" She sang out, happily, glancing at her guardian as Sin mentioned Makai going home. "Why does he have to leave?" She demanded, pouting.

Sin gestured grandly at the window, making sure that Gael and Makai could both see the growing darkness and the letting up of the rain. "It's getting late, love." She said lovingly, knowing Gael would understand.

(( Sure. Battlefield: Ar'Idil, sounds like it'll be something else. XD I wonder if Makai should meet Sanar before then. Maybe she and Gael could both claim Makai as being on their side. Poor little shorty, already gonna have problems with the wimminz. ))

"Uhh... 'kay," Agreement seemed like the safest course of action here. He set down his spoon and scooted away from the table. Solemnly, he smoothed out the pillow he'd been sitting on, then pushed in his chair and trotted over to Sin. "Thank you for the chik'n soooup," he said, drawing out the vowels. It was such a fun word to say! "It was good. And warm." He smiled happily. Then he gamboled over to Gael. "I'll come back, issa promise," he nodded with such exuberance, it set his hair to flopping wildly back and forth. "For more specimens. And for music!"

The mention of music perked him up, his worries about the upcomming war momentarily overshadowed. "I'll leave the 'brella here," he told Gael. "That way, I have to come back to get it!"

[oh, I don't doubt that Sanar'd claim Makai... but be careful, the girl's a keyptomanic.... she takes stoofs.]

Sin smiled, "There must be lost of music! I love music!" Standing, she took Makai's hand and walked him to the door, Gael trailing behind them.

Gael watched sadly as Makai readied to leave. "You'll come back, right?" She asked worriedly, hanging onto the doorpost, casting worried looks in Sin's direction. "Because some people don't come back... and it's sad."

Makai beamed at Sin, giving her hand a little squeeze. She had introduced him to soup and she liked music. She was alright in his book.

"Don't come back..." he trailed off, not understanding. There was always tomorrow, right? How could anyone not come back? Wyv was often late with things, but she always came back. He looked at Sin, then at Gael, puzzlement clearly showing on his face.

Suddenly, very solemn, he turned to his fellow Aerandir. "Promise is a promise. I come back." He nodded once, turning the motion into an awkward half bow, like he'd seen the people do in some of the movies he'd watched. He straightened, picking up the umbrella and resting it against the wall, near to the door, but not close enough to be tripped over.

"Good night," he said. Then he bolted off the porch, arms and wings out stretched as if her were flying. "PROMISE!" He bellowed over his shoulder as he raced off. Hopefully, Wyv wouldn't be angry. And maybe if he tried extra hard during music time, she'd be more open to this 'war' of Gael's. He'd be back either way.

He'd promised.
