Woot for food!

Quote:
One hand drumming on the tabletop, Kaja sat at the kitchen table, scooping up random spoonfuls of soup and watching the same spoonfulls pour back into the bowl. This particular process went on for some time, until finally she set the spoon down on the table with a sigh. "This just doesn't seem very appealing, guys. Want some soup?"

As she spoke, she tipped the bowl at the two Felis that were sitting up on the table next to her, intently eyeing the aforementioned soup. So intent were they that no sonner had the soup been nudged their way than they were eagerly lapping up the tasty chicken broth.

"Ok, I guess you guys do feel like soup; Ria, make sure you don't hog it all!" Smiling a bit, Kaja rose to her feet and headed back out to the living room, snagging a plum from the bowl on the counter as she passed out the kitchen. Raising it to her lips, she took a bite, then offered the plum to the small gree turtle that had crawled up to her shoulder from a tote bag that hung at her side. "You want some, Oli?"

The turtle sniffed at the plum in an absent fashion, but as he wasn't a particularly fruit-liking turtle, he passed on the offer.

"Suit yourself; more for me, I suppose." Smiling, Kaja pet Oliver with the back of her hand, then flopped back on the couch, prepared to resume her vigil.

On the way home

Quote:
"Well, I"d say you acquitted yourself admirably at the doctor's, wouldn't you? Though I feel that it's my parental duty to inform you that I know you're up to something." Grinning, Cajmera zipped down the road, she and Remy on their way back from his check-up at the clinic. Both were in good spirits; Remy, because he'd gotten to meet the doctor again and he'd gotten a lollipop, Caj because Remy had behaved himself and had nothing at all wrong with him. Nothing important, anyway; colds simply didn't count. However silly she felt for worrying about her son's sniffles, she couldn't help but feel relieved to know that she was...a normal paranoid mother!

"Grbl!" Grinning cheerfully in a fashion exactly like his mother's, Remy agreed with her not so much because he understood or believed what she was saying, but because he liked to agree. He'd been called an agreeable child before, and that was no exageration in the literal sense as he was always happy and willing to agree to just about anything. At the moment, he was in an exceptionally good mood, though; his small pink tongue was being energetically applied to a grape lollipop he'd gotten from the doctor. Honestly, he didn't know what the fuss about doctors was, but he always got a lollipop when he went, so it had to be good!

Eyeing the contented baby as she drove along, Caj had to chuckle. "You have no care for what I'm saying, yet you're completely agreeing with me! Maybe I should threaten to dangle you by your ankles from a third story window."

"Grbl" Nodding his head complacently, Remy was now occupying himself with offering the sticky lollipop to the yellow plush turtle that was tightly clutched in his arms. This time, his mother found herself cutting in.

"No no, Remy; lollipops aren't good for Turtle; he'll get all sticky." Shaking her head, Caj reached back to remove the plushie, and consequently got the first negative reaction of the day.

"Nuh!!" Flinging both arms protectively around Turtle, Remy gave his mother a fierce look; no one was going to seperate him from his beloved Turtle unless he said they could. And he certainly hadn't said so!

"Fine, you can keep Turtle back there, but don't get him all sticky, or else he'll need another bath. And if he keeps getting bathed, there's not going to be that much left of him to snuggle, I'd imagine." With that, Caj shrugged her shoulders, then turned the car into their driveway as they finally reached it. One thing that she just could not win on, it seemed, was the point of the turtle. Why was it always turtles with her children, anyway?

Shaking her head, she pulled up in front of the garage, then climbed out of the car, running her fingers through her hair with a yawn. Hard to believe it was only 1pm, and she'd been awake for so long! "You know, I never had to get up early with Kaja, kiddo." Her tone was meant to be censuring, but as she unbuckled the cheerfully grinning child from his car seat, she couldn't help but think that the sacrifice was worth. There will always be other mornings, particularly once both her kids were older.

"...But you'd better grow slowly, munchkin. Otherwise I'll have to be annoyed with you, and who wants that?" With that, she swung both child and turtle up to rest on her hip, slammed the door shut, and headed for the house. "So now, my little sickie, let's go see what Kaja's been up to while we were gone!"

GMFC thread rp!
Participants: Remy and Luna

Luna Edae
((WELL IN THAT CASE.))

Luna couldn't put into words just what it was about the clinic that she found so calming. Maybe it was the familiarity. Maybe it was the chairs it was so easy to sit upside-down on.

And maybe, this time, it was the toys in the corner.

A stack of alphabet blocks had her attention this time. Sure, she was twelve years too old for that sort of thing. But the art of stacking them and unstacking them was a calming experience. Something she could put her full attention on.

And as she stacked another block, she smiled faintly. Besides. She knew Jokeph couldn't keep a faint smile of amusement from his face as he watched his "Mistress" make a complete a** of herself and love every moment of it.

Stack. Stack. Stack.

Remington Boetiathe
((...Merlyn is such a cute mule! *just dressed Remy like his tot portrait for now* So uncreative...))

Blink. Blink blink. As he stood in the doorway to the clinic, his furry yellow turtle clutched under one arm, Remington could only stare in confused fascination at the older lady in the corner. The other times he'd come in with his mother there'd been other kids here...but this was the first time he'd seen a grown lady. And why was she playing with blocks?

Glancing over at the reception desk, he confirmed that his mother was still over there talking to the lady...so that meant it ought to be ok to go see what the lady was up to. So, plushie in hand, he toddled over to where Luna was stacking the blocks, stared for a moment, then flopped down onto the floor next to her. "Why's lady playin' with toys?"

Luna Edae
Luna couldn't help but jump a bit with surprise. Normally, she was aware enough of the minds around her to know when someone was approaching her, but this time, she was caught completely off guard.

"Ah!" She exclaimed, the block in her hand clattering noisily to the ground-- a sharp contrast to her whispery voice.

I... erm. Well--!

Remington Boetiathe
((Merlyn is such a cute kid, at any rate...with a cute mule! Remy has potential, at least *grins*))

A solemn expression on his freckled face, Remy carefully set down his turtle, then picked up the dropped block. Tilting his head to one side in a querying fashion, he held the block up to Luna and gently tugged on her sleeve. "Lady dropped this."

Luna's voice caught him by surprise when she finally spoke, being used to older people who were loud. If they were loud, you listened...and if they were quiet, you didn't. But maybe the lady didn't want him to listen? Or maybe she was one of those older people who spoke quietly so that they could tell you things that they didn't really want you to understand...

At any rate, she looked scared. Why was she scared? Was she scared of Turtle? Glancing downwards at the yellow plush, he reached down with his free hand and patted it, hoping that the lady would realize Turtle was ok. "Don't be scared...Turtle's nice."

Luna Edae
((:
Luna smiled gently, her face flushing with embarrassment. She didn't mean to concern the boy, but it didn't help that he didn't seem to hear her.

Well, there were other ways to communicate.

She gently reached out and patted Turtle, smile widening. Turtle wasn't a problem at all. See?

And, taking a deep breath, she pointed to herself and attempted to introduce herself.

"Ruuul-naaa."

Remington Boetiathe
At Luna's recognition of Turtle, Remy's serious expression gave way to an almost elven grin, his green eyes sparkling. Since she didn't seem that interested in the block, he set it down on the floor beside the other ones, then gently mimicked her point with his own pudgy fingers. "Rulna?" He giggled a little bit, delighted at having a new game to play; a new game with an older person, even! Grabbing her pointing hand with both of his, he attempted to point the finger at himself.

"Remin'tn." He could do that, too!

Luna Edae
"Ben-i-nen," Luna repeated slowly, brow furrowing in concentration. This was more difficult than she'd imagined. She'd had lots of practice attempting to speak, but all that time didn't even seem to make a dent in her speech problem. "...Me...mi...den?"

Remington Boetiathe
Remy's serious expression returned as he listened to Luna's pronounciation of his name...or rather, her attempts at pronouncing his name. Her voice sounded strange now, though...it had been so quiet when she talked the first time, and now it was like it was a different lady's voice! But she seemed to be having problems talking...sorta like he seemed to have. Maybe she didn't have much practice talking...she must not have had an older sister like he did.

Patting her hand, he pointed back at himself, then tried again. "Remy" Maybe that would be easier?

Luna Edae
"E-ny," Luna tried, smiling apologetically. Finally, she shrugged a bit and patted Remington on the head, as if to tell him he didn't need to worry about her. She projected the same feelings -- Just in case -- but at this point, she figured her actions would have to speak louder than words.

Taking the discarded block in her hands, she held it out to Remington and gestured to the small tower with her other hand. Did he want to give it a try?

Remington Boetiathe
Well, he'd gotten his point across, and that was the important part. Grinning at his newfound friend, he reached up and gently patted her on the cheek, right over her make-up. "Rulna's Remy's friend?" He rather liked that idea, beign friend with an older person.

As if to cement the deal, he took the block from her and placed it with great care on the top of the tower, breaking into a triumphant laugh when the structure wobbled...but didn't fall. Victory!

Luna Edae
Victory, indeed!

Luna nodded slowly, her smile widening into a grin. Of course she'd be Remy's friend!

Remington Boetiathe
At the sight of Luna's smile, Remy laughed again; the funny lines on her face crinkled in an interesting fashion when she smiled like that. Turning his attention away from the blocks, he got up on his knees so that he could reach better and poked at the tops of the marks. "Why Rulna draw on face?" Every time he did anything even remotely like that, his mother always washed him up...but they looked nifty! Maybe he could have marks like that, too?

Luna Edae
To explain it took more speech capabilities than she had. But she DID have a notebook. She didn't know if Remy could read, but she could illustrate her point.

She took out the small notebook and a blue gel pen, turning it to the first empty page. There, she drew two Porcelain. One male, one female. Both with a third eyelid and streaks on their faces. The female's were drawn like Luna's, while the male's were straight.

Did Remy understand so far?

Remington Boetiathe
((*waves at Steal and Neith* heart ))

Resting his hands on his knees, Remy watched as Luna drew, his forehead deeply furrowed in concentration. He wasn't really sure what the picture meant...he'd never seen anybody with three eyes before. Granted, he had met a child with scales...so maybe three eyed people existed. Although...

Glancing closer at the paper, he realized that one of Luna's people had marks like hers...so did that mean that she had another eye? Looking up, he scrutinized Luna for a moment, then reached up and moved her hair to check and see if there was an eye up there. That would be neat!

Luna Edae
Nonono! She drew another eye on the paper, emphasizing the translucent lid that stopped in the middle of the eye.

She pointed to her own eye and shook her head. See? She didn't have one. But! She was LIKE them in a way. To emphasize, she pointed to the makeup and nodded.

But... she was probably just confusing him at this point.

She flipped the page, this time drawing a simple stick figure with only basic facial features. She added a word bubble along with the word "Talking" (Just in case) inside.

She then crossed it out with a grand fashion, and then pointed to herself, shaking her head. See? Luna can't talk.

She then drew a thought bubble, writing "Thinking" inside (again, just in case!) and then pointed to herself once more with a nod. But she could speak by thinking.

Did Remy get any of that?

Remington Boetiathe
((...chesticals? *dies laughing*))

The blank stare that Remy graced Luna with probably was a good indicator of just how much of what she was expressing made sense to him...but there was one thing that he understood. As she finshed drawing the thought bubble, it was like a light bulb went on in his head. He'd seen symbols like that in the picture books Kaja liked to read, and she'd explained what they meant. But just to be sure (as he couldn't read)...

Pointing at the speech bubble, he pointed at himself as well with his other hand. "Remy talks?"

Moving to point at the thought bubble and Luna, he gave her a heavily hopeful look. "Rulna...talks there?" With that, he tapped her head, then brought his finger to his lips like he had a secret. "Quiet?"

Luna Edae

Luna nodded excitedly, dropping the pen and taking Remy's hands in hers. Yes! Yes! He understands! That's exactly it!

Remington Boetiathe
((Remy: ...Mama, what they talkin' about? *blink blink*

Later *covers Remy's ears*))

Well, that had to mean that he was right! Giggling madly, Remy clapped Luna's hand with his own, then clapped his own hands happily. He'd figured out what the pictures meant! Of course, he wasn't sure what that had to do with Luna's markings...but maybe she meant that she had them cause she could only really talk in her head. If he had them, would he be able to talk in his head, too? "Remy head-talk too?"

Luna Edae
((Luna: *juuuust hugs Ilex* :<))

Luna tilted her head at Remy, clearing her mind as much as she could.

Can Remy hear Luna now?

Remington Boetiathe
Remy's eyes got huge as he realized that he wasn't hearing Luna's words in his ears...he couldn't be, 'cause he hadn't seen her mouth move at all. She was talking into his head! She was talking into his head with her head!

Clapping his hands in delight, he nodded his head so vigorously that it seemed as though it might fly clean off. "Remy hears! Luna's head voice is in Remy's head!" Giggling, he pounced the teen with a toddler's bear hug, thrilled at this new piece of knowledge. "Luna's got a pretty head voice."

Luna Edae
Luna most certainly wasn't expecting THAT! She fell backwards, knocking over the block tower and throwing her arms around Remy instinctively as if to shield him from the avalanche!

Aaaaah! You hear, you hear! I can see that!

Remington Boetiathe
Giggling, Remy bobbed his head in agreement, still clinging to Luna. He wasn't really sure how he heard...but her words were there, in his head! "Remy hears! Luna's not talking...but she's head talking, and Remy hears!" What a fascinating developement! Really, he didn't even know that people could head talk, and here he was listening to it!

Luna Edae
Ahhhh, what a relief! Luna heaved a huge sigh, her head falling back into the hard tile of the clinic floor. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to talk to you!

Remington Boetiathe
Grinning at Luna, Remy reached up and patted her head. "Luna shouldn't hit her head...she can get bumps, and maybe blood. Blood is bad. And maybe she no head talk with hurt head?" He wasn't really sure why she was so happy...maybe she just liked talking to people. Or maybe not everyone could head talk? "Why Luna afraid? Is not talking scary?"

Luna Edae
((Luna: *Shoots Elle with a tranquilizer dart* stare ))

I have lots of hair. It cushions the fall. She smiled sheepishly, peering up at Remy. It's scary to talk and not be heard.

Remington Boetiathe
"Oh...Remy has lotsa hair too...not so much as Luna, but lots. See?" Remy shook his head a bit, causing his thick mane of reddish hair to poof about him like a lion's mane; then he smiled and petted Luna's purple tresses. "Remy's glad Luna's not hurt..."

He had to think about her comment regarding not being heard, though. He was usually heard, but sometimes when he was in his room or Kaja and Mama weren't close he had to yell really loud or else go find them. That was scary, actually...cause what if they were gone? "Yeah...that's bad. It's bad to be heard-less."

Luna Edae
A slow nod. It's scary when they're right there and you want to be heard but nothing you say can... be understood. Luna shuddered. She must be scaring him at this point. She was certainly scaring herself.

Remington Boetiathe
...Wow, what if he were right next to Mama, and she couldn't hear him? That would be absolutely horrid! How would she know if he was hungry? Or wanted to go outside? Or anything? A worried frown corssed his face for a moment...then went away as a sudden realization hit him. Mama could hear him, right? And that was what mattered.

But Luna maybe couldn't be heard as much...how sad for her. That in mind, he gave her a kiddie kiss on the cheek. "Remy hears Luna, though...so she shouldn't be scared."

Luna Edae
((Luna: *TRANQS ELLE AGAIN*))

Luna returned the kiddie kiss quickly (to the forehead, where else?), and pulled herself into a sitting position. I'm not scared. Even if you can't hear me, I can draw on paper, remember?

Remington Boetiathe
That made sense, he supposed. Perching in Luna's lap, Remy looked over at the notebook, then grinned impishly at Luna. "Luna's pictures are confuzling, though...so she should try her best to head talk!"

Luna Edae
Luna turned the page back to the Porcelain she'd drawn. These are Porcelain. They have another eyelid and they wear these marks on their faces. And they talk with feelings. Not thinking words. She gently ran her finger down the page. My brother is Porcelain. And my godfather is Porcelain. And I am Porcelain on the inside.

Remington Boetiathe
Once again, Luna had returned to the realm of confusion...Remy really couldn't follow what she was saying now, and it made his head spin just to think about it. Besides, how could she be made of china? Wouldn't she have broken when she fell over, then? "Luna don't feel like she's china..."

Luna Edae
Luna giggled quietly. Not porcelain! Porcelain. It's a little different. She leaned close to Remy, as if to whisper a secret. But I am part Chinese.

Remington Boetiathe
Remy eyed Luna suspiciously for a moment, then suddenly burst out laughing. "Luna is teasing Remy! Silly Luna." Sticking his tongue out at her, he scooped up Turtle from the floor beside them and hugged the furry turtle close, shaking his head dramatically to show that she hadn't taken him in with her silly jokes. "Luna's trying to confuzzle Remy!" She sure didn't act like a normal grown-up, that was sure!

Luna Edae
But I'm telling the truth! Luna blinked with confusion, tilting her head to the side. And I'm not... REALLY a grown-up. I'm only sixteen.

Remington Boetiathe
"Silly Luna...she's being silly an' being confuzzling. Where's truth?" Crossing his arms over his chest, the tot gave the teen a look of superiority which had to have been quite comical, given the child wearing it. "And 16 is old! Luna really is a grown-up!"

He was so busy refuting that, for a moment, he didn't realize that something about the last exchange was off...until he realized that she'd addressed his grown-up statement. Only he hadn't said that out loud...had he?

Luna Edae
Dot. Dot. Dot.

Um... oooooops.

Luna Edae
I can. Luna shrugged sheepishly. I can hear people think if they think it loud enough.

((OOC READING: "I can hear your thoughts if you type them" 8D!!!!!!! *bricked!*))

Remington Boetiathe
((Ah, the joys of legal loopholes *grins*))

"Huh." Well, that made sense. After all, even if someone wasn't talking to him specifically, if they were being noisy he could hear them. "Remy will try to head-talk quieter." Maybe his thoughts were really noisy...like yelling. So, if they were right next to each other, it must be really hard on Luna's ears for him to be thinking so loud! Only she didn't hear head-speech with her ears, did she? @.@

Luna Edae
If you try to think quietly, you think louder. Luna nudged Remy gently. It's all right, really. I'm used to it. With a wry smile, she gestured to Jokeph. He can't talk with his head like I can, but I can still hear him. She cupped her hand around her mouth and leaned closed to Remy's ear, as if to tell another secret. He's hungry.

Jokeph, in reply, scowled.

Remington Boetiathe
"Oh...." Well, trying to think quiet was confusing anyway, cause Remy had no clue what controlled mind volume anyway. Not thinking about it was probably better, especially if Luna said so. She was the expert, right?

Looking over at Jokeph was the first time Remy realized that he was even there; giving the man a wave of greeting, he then turned back to Luna curiously. "Is he Luna's Papa?"

Luna Edae
Luna laughed at loud at that, covering her mouth with both hands. Nono! No! That's my guardian! That's Jo. More laughter. Daddy's away from home for long times for work.

Remington Boetiathe
Guardian? What, Remy wondered, was a guardian? All he knew about were mamas and papas, brothers and sisters, and aunts. Guardians weren't something he had experience with...maybe they were something that you had to be able to mind-speak to have. "Oh...Remy doesn't really have a papa. Luna's Papa must be happy to have a Jo there for Luna."

Actually, he wasn't really sure what a papa was even for; he only had a mama, but things seemed to work out good for them. Well, Mama and a sister.

Luna Edae
Luna furrowed her brow in thought once again, thinking of how to phrase it. Well... Ah! She had it. Jo was born when I was born. Ma says she helped make him. And he's here to protect me. And... and he always needs to be nearby, or else he's very sad. And he's sad when I'm sad. She clasped her hands together. Jo and I are like this. Very close. And always together.

She smiled gently. Family is family, no matter who's in it, right?

Remington Boetiathe
Like many other things Luna had mentioned in the course of their meeting, the explanation of Jokeph largely went over Remy's head as well. But he understood enough to know that the funny winged man was important to Luna, and that was really all that needed to be said. "Yup yup; Luna is happy with her guardian, and Remy is happy with his Mama."

"Well, that's certainly good news." Though she'd been in the process of walking over, Cajmera had been able to catch her son's last words and was suitably amused enough to give the tot a hair-tousle. "And I see that you've been keeping entertained while I was handling that paperwork...hopefully not by being a nuisance." As she spoke, Caj glanced over the situation, and the fact that Remy was firmly clinging to Luna. He could be a little...determined when he wanted to be.

"Not nuisance. Luna's Remy's new friend!" Grinning ear to ear, Remy gave Luna another enthusiastic hug to demonstrate to his mother how truly noble his intentions and behaviors were, though whether or not Luna would agree was questionable. "See?"

"Really...and does Luna think that too, or is she hoping someone will come along and remove this pesky little boy?" Though smiling at her son, Caj's eyebrow was raised queryingly at Luna. At least the girl didn't look offended...

Luna Edae
Luna shook her head forcefully, patting Remy on the head. He's fine, ma'am. Really.

Remington Boetiathe
"Well, that's good to hear. I guess that means that I don't have to worry about your nuisancey ways quite so much, then." Smiling, Caj reached down and scooped up the tot, balancing both he and his turtle on her hip. "At any rate, thank you for looking after my little guy, Miss Luna; we've got to get going, though. Why don't you tell your new friend good-bye, Remy?"

Clinging tightly to his turtle with one arm, Remy waved the other wildly at Luna. "Bye bye Luna! It was fun talkin' and lookin' at pitchers! Bye!" Leaning over, he continued to wave even as they headed out the door. "Next time, we'll build!"

((This has been fun, Jun ^^ Thanks for the rp, and now, good night!))

Luna Edae
((Night, Caj!))

Luna waved after them, still shaking her head as she giggled quietly. Well. That was definitely something, wasn't it?

Dear Journal;
Well, I think that I can finally officially call my little guy a toddler. It seems like only yesterday that all he could do was roll around and blow bubbles, and now he's running (ok, toddling, but still moving on two feet!) around with Ria and chattering like a monkey!

I don't think that I'll ever recover from the scares this little guy has given me, though; I've been told that every parent is obligated to think that they're the worst parent in the world at some point, and I have to tell you that I felt like that was me a few weeks ago.

It was shortly after Remy had started walking; I was keeping an eye on him while he toddled around the room and everything was going fine...then Ara knocked something over in the kitchen. I only looked away for a second, but in that time Remy managed to trip on the rug and kocked into the corner of the bookcase, splitting his cheek wide open!

Kaja positively freaked at the blood, but oddly enough Remy didn't even make a peep. He just stayed sitting on the floor where he'd fallen and poked at the bloody spot with his hand, that peculiar solemn look on his face. Needless to say I didn't share his sympathies...

On the positive side, he didn't need to have that many stitches, and the ER doc told me that Remy was the most well-behaved little boy he'd ever had to deal with. Wasn't that nice?

Closing her journal with one hand, Cajmera tapped thoughtfully on the leather cover with her fingernails, staring off into the distance with an absent expression. Though it was only a fleeting look, there was a great deal of meaning behind it, meaning that she herself probably couldn't explain.

Returning to herself, she looked down at the journal as it rested on the table top, tracing around the edge with one fingertip and thinking about what she'd just written. Though it had been a few weeks, there was still something about it that perplexed her...

"Remington?" Leaning over in her chair, she looked through the bedroom door into the nursery where she could see her son methodically seperating his building blocks into piles according to color. "Remy, come in and see Mama!"

At the sound of his name, the little boy looked up with a big smile, his green eyes sparkling. "K' Mama! Remy's 'most done." As he spoke, he carefully set a green block in the green pile, then a yellow block in the yellow pile, then followed up with red, purple, black, and blue before carefully pulling himself to his feet and basically bouncing into his mother's room. "Remy's here!"

"Yes he is, isn't he? And he's such a good boy to hurry in when he's called." Chuckling, Caj scooped up her son into her arms, balancing the sturdy child on her knees and giving him a big hug. "Mama just wanted to check something out, ok?"

"K." It didn't really matter to Remy if there was any reason or motive in him being called; all that mattered was here was a chance to cuddle with his mother and maybe play with her horns. The curved black spikes that protruded from his mother's hair, hair exactly like his own, were an endless source of fascination to him, if a little unfair. After all, both Mama and his sister Kaja had horns...Kaja even had a tail, too. But he didn't, and so far he hadn't been given anything that struck him as being a particularly convincing explanation. It wasn't fair for them to not let him have horns, after all!

There was that acquiesant nature rearing its head again. One of many quirks of her son's that tended to make Caj wonder...

Patting him on the head, she turned her attention to the thin vertical scar that ran down Remy's right cheek, the scar that was the end result of his little run-in with the bookcase. He'd been so stoic when that had happened, only seeming to notice the wound at all becuase it was bleeding. No tears, no crying, not even so much as a whimper...well, unless you counted Kaja!

"Why is that, sweetie? Why don't you react?"

Blinking a little in confusion, Remy cocked his head at his mother in an absolutely endearing fashion. There she was, saying things that were confusing...things that didn't make sense no matter how you put them! Luna had been like that, too; so maybe it was just older people's way. But it really made it hard for him!

Well, maybe she'd meant something about he touching his face? That had been alright, of course; Mama always patted his face! Smiling, Remy showed her just how okay that was by reaching up and patting Cajmera's cheek. "Silly Mama...Remy likes pats! Pats don' hurt, see?"

...Ok, that hadn't been what she'd meant, but then...had she really wanted an answer? Or had she really been expecting one? Well, if she had, then that was just ridiculous. Chuckling, Cajmera covered her son's tiny hand with her own and gave it a pat, then lifted it from her cheek and kissed it. "That's right, sweetie, pats don't hurt at all. And let's keep it that way, hrm?"

Rising to her feet, Caj swung Remy up so that he was perched on her shoulders, her horns firmly grasped in his small hands. "Now then, I think that it's time for a little snack, don't you agree Kiddo?"

"Snack!" Chirping agreeably, Remy clung tight to his mother's horns as the two of them headed out of the room. Snacks were always good, after all..and that was fact.

Dear Journal
The strangest thing happened yesterday at the clinic...well, not really the strangest, but it was certainly unusual. Certainly I have more things to consider, at least in reagrds to my son.

Moving to the bare bones of the matter, Remy made a new 'friend' while we were at the GMFC. I had a whole lot of paperwork to fill out, and in the meantime Remy made the acquaintance of a young lady (quite literally; she looked like an older teenager to me, possibly even an adult) who was also in the waiting room. That's not the strange part, though...

According to Remy, this young lady (Luna, rather, as that appeared to have been her name) used "head-talk" which, from what he was telling me, is apparently some sort of telepathy. And oddly enough, Remy was able to understand this "head-talk" and talk back...verbally, of course, though it seems that Luna is also capable of reading thoughts.

This makes me wonder, though. I realize that there are all sorts of parents involved with the GMFC and all sorts of kids (hell, look at me; I have horns, for goodness' sake)...but this is my first run-in with telepathy...which is something that I don't think that I myself can hear. So the fact that he can is something of a surprise to me...

I wish I knew who/what/etc. his father is/was; then maybe these things would make more sense to me.

"Hrm..." Twirling a lock of firey red hair around her finger, Kaja lay on her stomach on a grassy hillock out beside the school's playground. On the ground in front of her, a math text lay spread open; it was on this that the teen's attention was focused.

"Why Kaja hrm? Math being bad?" With a gentle thud, Remy flopped down on the other side of the math book, his cheeks flushed from scuttling about the playground. He'd been absolutely delighted when his mother told him that he and Kaja could go out and play; he totally idolized his older sister and loved it when they could do things together, just them! But sometimes, Kaja didn't like to play; sometimes she would get all scowlling and make faces and weird noises. In the past, he'd asked her why she got mad; and usually it was math. Remy wasn't really sure what math was...but he knew it was bad. It was bad, and had something to do with numbers.

Craning his head around, Remy attempted to make some sense of the random (and upsidedown) assortment of letters and numbers on the page in front of him. Thanks to efforts on behalf of his mom and sister, he was familiar with the alphabet and numbers up to ten...but anything beyond that was understandably out of his reach. Needless to say...Kaja's math book was an obstacle insurmountable to the tot. "Math very bad."

Her head propped up on her hands, Kaja gave her little brother a raised eyebrow look, then chuckled. "Exactly right, Remmers; you'll figure out how the world works yet!" Shifting her weight to rest exclusively on one elbow, she leaned over and ruffled Remy's coppery hair, brushing out a few stray blades of grass that had somehow gotten mixed in. "But bad as math is, I think I'll get over it. You, on the other hand, shouldn't even be thinking about it. Whatever happened to playing?"

Giggling in his high-pitched fashion, Remy grabbed at Kaja's hand, trying to get it out of his hair; at the same time, he stuck his tongue out at her in an ingratiatiing fashion. "Wanted to see why Kaja wa'n't."

"...Aww, you're such a little sweetie, Remmers!" And to think she hadn't wanted him to begin with; it was amazing how things could change.

Closing her book, she rose to her feet and tossed her head, causing her ponytail to flip over her shoulder and out of the way. Offering her hand to Remy, she flashed a wide smile of invitation as well. "Shall we go check out teh swing set, then?"

“Fell.” The words were spoken in a very deliberate and matter of fact tone, one that could just have easily have been remarking on the weather or the state of the drying paint. However, besides that strange blandness there was something else decidedly strange about the little scene that was unfolding in the fenced-in backyard behind the large house that Cajmera shared with her two children.

The speaker was Remy; though he was now in a kneeling position on the ground, only a brief while earlier he had been face down on the ground with his arms spread awkwardly in front of himself, having tripped on his untied shoelace and fallen face-first into the sand pit underneath the swing set. However, as he had fallen the child had managed to bash his head on one of the swing set’s supports, and as he pulled himself up to a kneeling position the child blinked curiously at a dark red patch in the sand. “Fell…into what?” Blinking owlishly, the toddler poked at the red patch, finding to his surprise that the sand was wet there. “Eww! All wet…”

Making a disgusted face, he nonetheless poked at the dark sand patch a bit more. He’d seen wet sand before and knew that it tended to get dark when it got wet, but he’d never known it to get red before. “Hu’ come it got red, hmm Turtle?” Tilting his head to one side, Remy looked over at the yellow plush turtle that was currently occupying the far swing; as could be expected, the plush didn’t provide an answer or even a blink. However, Remy had enough experience dealing with Turtle to be able to suitably interpret. “You’re right, Turtle; maybe it’s cuz this’s special sand!” Of course, he’d never known it to be special sand before; whenever it rained, then the sand turned the same dark tan color that all sand seemed to become. But then, there was always the possibility of new sand! “Maybe it’s rainbow sand!”

As he stared at the sandy patch, another idea along similar lines occurred to the tot; if this really was rainbow sand, then maybe it would turn more colors when it got wet! “We should water it, Turtle!” Of course, that would involve getting some water…but he knew where the hose was kept. This would be a totally neat experience!

First things first, though. Having tripped over his shoes once, he had no intention of doing so again. “Better take em off, huh Turtle?” Upon receiving Turtle’s silence of affirmation, the tot bent over to take off his shoes…only to suddenly see large, fat drops of red go splattering down on the ground. Red drops? Was it actually raining red??? Maybe it wasn’t special sand at all…

Leaning backwards, he looked up at the sky, fully expecting to see something of interest; unfortunately, it was just a regular blue sky, with no sign of red anywhere. How mysterious. Pouting a little at the lack of sightings, he once again leaned forward…only to have the mysterious red drops start falling again! “No fair teasing!” Breaking into a scowl, he slammed his chubby fist into the splatter marks, only to have more of the droplets fall onto his hand. “Meanie rain! I wanna see!”

Glaring in his most menacing fashion, Remy raised his hand to his eyes and looked at it critically; it was a very purty shade of red, whatever it was; and surprisingly it wasn’t even cold. But it was bothering him by its lack of traceable origins, and even the most easy-going of children can get frustrated occasionally. He was just about at the yelling point, and might possibly have reached it right then was it not for a realization; Kaja was in the house working on her math homework; maybe she could take a break and help him figure out where the strange red rain was coming from.

“C’mon, Turtle; let’s go see Kaja!” Rising a little unsteadily to his feet, Remy plucked the plushie off of the swing with the non-speckled arm and trotted over to the patio door. It was a very solid and heavy door; usually he needed help from someone to get it open, but today he’d managed to move it all by himself! He’d have to tell Kaja that as well, after she helped him figure out where the mystery rain was coming from.

Walking in through the door (which he’d left open earlier), the tot wandered into the kitchen. “Kaja? KAAAAJAAA! I gots a quextion!”

“I’m in the dining room, Remmers!” Kaja’s voice floated through the door to the named room, and Remy obediently shuffled off in that direction. “Kaja, where’s the red rain from?” Peeking around the door frame, Remy spied his sister diligently scowling at the math book that lay open on the table, her pencil hand tapping in annoyance on the sheet of paper that sat beside it. She looked like she was upset…so it was a good time for her to take a break by helping him!

“The red rain? Remy, what on earth are you-“Turning her attention up from the math problem she’d been trying to work out, Kaja was greeted by the sight of her little brother entering the room, dirt and sand all over his front and a steady stream of blood welling from a large gash on his head and flowing down the side to drip onto his shoulder and the floor. For a moment, she just stared; then with a startled squeak she flew to her feet and dashed across the room to Remy’s side. “Ohmygosh, what did you do, Remy! You’re bleeding! A lot!”

Looking around the room, Kaja spied a towel slung over the back of a chair; this she grabbed and immediately pressed to the wound. This was at least able to staunch the blood flow for a little bit, though she could see with horror that the blood was starting to seep through after only a few moments.

During the whole proceeding, Remy simply blinked at his sister with owlish eyes. “Bleeding? Remy’s not bleeding; bleeding is what happens when fingers get cut on paper!” In fact, she’d told him that herself! He hadn’t had any paper and his fingers weren’t cut, so therefore he couldn’t possibly be bleeding.

“No Remy, bleeding is what happens when you hurt yourself and cut your skin and your blood comes out; and you have lots of it coming out right now! Did you hit your head on something, Remy? Does your head hurt a lot?” Still applying the towel to the top of Remy’s head, Kaja looked around wildly for something that would work better for the purpose. Why did these things have to happen when she was baby-sitting??

“Head don’ hurt. I fell outside, but no hurt.” There Remy was able to offer and more substantial bit of help. Maybe when he’d knocked his head against the swing set it had cut his head? That wasn’t very nice of it, though! “Hit head on the swing-set…but I dun’ hurt.” And that was true. Then again, he had to admit that he was unsure as to what that really entailed…hurt was a word that was flung around a lot, but he’d never truly been able to understand. Hurt was supposed to be when you hit your head and it made you cry…or when you burned yourself, or got stung by a bee…but they never made Remy cry. In fact, he never even seemed to know that they’d happened until his mother or Kaja noticed and commented on them…

Frowning, Kaja replaced the previous towel with a new one. “I’d better call Mum and tell her what’s happened, Remy; you just sit tight like a good little kid, and we’ll get this fixed up as good as new!” Attempting to smile widely at her brother’s confused face, Kaja couldn’t help the brief flicker of anxiety that crossed her figures, anxiety even greater than the shock and fear she’d originally felt upon seeing all that blood. No pain…he said he felt no pain. Just like he always said, just like he never indicated…and never any pain.

GMFC thread rp
Participants: Remy, Dr. Haladet, Ilex, Cellina, Luna

Cajmera

Humming to himself, Remy stacked the blocks of the GMFC waiting room into a tower, thinking to himself at the same time that they REALLY needed to get new toys here. Not that there was anything wrong with blocks; they just got boring after a while.

Lillian Haladet

Dr. Haladet leaned against the doorway to her office, arms folded across her chest and watching the toddler with a fond smile on her face. She always did enjoy children, and she had to admit that part of the reason she chose this specific locale was... children.

"Just you wait until I'm finished unpacking," she called, picking up on Remy's boredom. "I've brought a few toys from home you might like."

Cajmera

Looking up from his stacking, Remy perked up his ears at the sound of 'new toys'. That was certainly providencial! What a nice lady, giving him new stuff to play with!

Grinning, he put the last block on top of the tower, then wandered over to the nice toy lady. After all, those toys weren't going to unpack themselves! "Can Remy help unpack?"

Lillian Haladet
"Remy may want to be patient," Lillian chuckled, shaking her head. "Because I don't know which box they're in. And some boxes have some dangerous objects I don't want sticking others."

Cajmera
Dangerous objects? And what, pray tell, were dangerous objects? Did that mean that they would leap out and try to scare him? And what did it mean that they'd 'stick'? Like burrs stuck on your clothes?

Silly lady, thinking that he'd be scared. But that was nice of her! Reaching up with his bandaged left hand, he patted her hand reassuringly. "S'ok, Lady; Remy's not scared!"

Lillian Haladet
"I can see that," Lillian answered evenly, staring down at him. "But what I mean is, I'd rather you not get even more hurt. How'd you do this to your hand?"

Cajmera
Hurt; there was that word again! Man, adults were way too concerned about hurt; from what he'd been able to establish...hurt was just something they said to keep him from having fun crying

At her question, he glanced briefly at his hand; he always had bandages, so it was hard to say exactly what happened. But he was pretty sure that this was the knife... "Knife. Didja know knives make red?"

Lillian Haladet
Why yes. Lillian was very much aware that knives made red. And so did other blades, projectile weapons, energy weapons, and even some psionic attacks, depending on if blood vessels in the brain burst and--

"Now, what are you doing with knives?" she asked seriously, kneeling down so that she could be on eye-level with Remy. "Knives aren't toys."

Cajmera
Remy returned Lillian's serious look with a serious look of his own. He knew they weren't toys...they were just pretty! "Not toys...just lookin' at. Knives are cool shapes, you know? And they're cool to touch." Temperature cool, of course.

Lillian Haladet
"If you like metal, then maybe you should look at and feel things that aren't so sharp." A pause. "Here, one moment."

After ducking into her office, Lillian presented Remy with a box with two metal balls inside. "These are health balls. What you do is put them both in one hand..." She took the balls out and placed them in her hand. "And move them like this." She then moved them in her hand, each rolling around the other and making a low tinkling sound from the bells within.

"See?"

Cajmera
"...COOL!" Grinning, Remy took the balls from Lillian and gently tapped them together, giggling at the sound they made. "H'come they make that noise?" It was like they were crystal, they tinkled so prettily!

Lillian Haladet
"There are bells inside," Lillian explained. "But that's not how you use them. You roll them around in your hand like I showed you."

Cajmera

Bells...that made sense, he supposed. But as he tried to mimic what Lillian had done, Remy discovered that he had a slight problem; his hands were too small for both of them to fit in one hand! "They're too big..."

Lillian Haladet
Lillian chuckled quietly. "I'm sorry. I don't have anything smaller..." She pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Maybe, if you ask really nicely and behave..." a pause. "And stay out of trouble..." At this, she laughed. "Maybe your mother would consent to getting you a set rather than have you tearing yourself up with her knives."

She pinched his nose lightly. "After all, there's only so much red in a person's body at any given time. We don't want you bleeding out, do we?"

Cajmera
Trouble? Well, it wasn't like he went looking for it, it was just that adults seemed to have an awfully strict definition of trouble. How could he stay out of what he couldn't define? But if it meant Mama would get him a present...

At the pinch, he scrunched up his nose, then blinked. "Red runs out?" He didn't know you had limited red...didn't it come back?

Lillian Haladet
"Uh huh," Lillian answered matter-of-factly. "It comes back, yes, but pretty slow. Come into my office and I'll show you what I mean. She retreated back into the office, reaching for a single latex glove before looking over her shoulder at Remy.

Cajmera
Tilting his head curiously, Remy glanced back into the waiting room for only a moment, then bounded after the lady. She looked like a doctor, and doctors were nice people. And this sounded interesting!

Lillian Haladet
Holding the glove under the faucet of the sink in her office, Lillian turned the water on full-blast until the glove was bulging.

"Imagine this... is you. And the water inside is the red inside you." A wry smile. "Now, say, if you were to get hurt..." Deftly producing a needle, Lillian punctured the glove. Immediately, water began streaming out of the glove. "Look at all that water coming out! Thankfully, you can... heal yourself." To illustrate her point, Lillian tossed the needle into the appropriate receptacle and plugged the hole with her finger. "See? All better. ALMOST."

The glove had "deflated" a bit at this point. "Ouch! Now THAT'S a nasty injury! But luckily for us, your body can replenish its red." Taking her hand away briefly from plugging the hole in order to turn on the water -- just a small trickle, this time -- she turned back to Remy.

"But look how slow it is. And if you lose red faster than you can replenish it... then..."

She turned the glove upside-down, recoiling as water splashed back onto her labcoat.

"...Then we don't have much of a 'you' here, do we?"

Cajmera
Eyes huge and round, Remy watched the demonstration with undisguised awe. Was that the way it worked? No wonder his mother was always putting bandages on him so fast when he cut himself open, she must be trying to keep all the red inside! That was so cool...

Propping his arms on the counter, he attempted to scramble up and look closer at the glove. "But how does the red inside me come back after it's spilled?" As far as he knew, he hadn't been connected to a faucet...

Lillian Haladet
"Now that's one way the body is special," Lillian answered. "It makes its own red. But it takes time to fill yourself up, and if you lose a lot, then it's going to take a lot of energy. So if you lose too much, you're going to feel tired and dizzy."

Cajmera
"huh" He wasn't sure he believed that; after all, Mama had always told him if he did stuff he'd hurt himself, but he'd done the stuff and never hurt...so maybe he wouldn't get dizzy? But he didn't want to deflate, either...he probably wouldn't be able to stand if he did that! "How much is too much?"

Lillian Haladet
Lillian furrowed her brow in thought. "A doctor is supposed to say that any bit is too much." A smile. "If you lose a lot of red and it makes you tired and weak, then it is too much. If you lose a lot of red and you have a hard time focusing, then it's too much."

She tossed the flat glove to Remy. "And if it could fill this glove? It's too much."

Cajmera

Having somewhat limited motor capabilities, Remy dropped the glove on the floor and was oblidged to slip down from the counter to retrieve it. As he did so, he found himself eyeing it critically. Just how much red did it take to fill a glove? He wan't sure, but maybe he would have been able to fill it that time he hit his head on the swingset...there had been a lot of red. Maybe he could do a 'speriment and see...

But he didn't want to get dizzy and pass out, did he? What did that even mean? O.o

Lillian Haladet
"--Don't even think it," Lillian warned, folding her arms across her chest. "Do you know that feeling you get when you spin around too much and then fall down? That's dizziness." She didn't want to SCARE the poor kid, so she neglected to tell him how scary it was to pass out. "No experimenting. You shouldn't play with your own red. It's dangerous."

Steal
Ilex sighed and walked down the street holding his little sister's hand. She stumbled along side him, giggling and carrying a kiki in her arms, a second on her head. Those were two of her many friends. Unfortunately for Ilex she was not willing to go to the clinic for her check-up unless they all came alone, which ment that he had several felines crawling over him as he walked.

A look of long suffering patience was on his face as he pushed the door to the clinic open, leading Cellina in after him.

Cajmera
...Did all adults have the ability to read minds? He knew that his friend Luna did, but he'd thought that she was special. Obviously not, given how many grown-ups seemed to know what he was thinking.

Giving a long suffering sigh, he nodded his head at the lady. "K. No dizzy, no 'speriments, no red. Remy can be good!" Grinning at her, he turned and started to head out the door...then impulsively pounced and hugged her knees. "You're nice. Remy likes you. But Mama said stay in the room by the blocks, so...bye!"

Smiling, he turned and bounced out the door into the waiting room...then stopped near the blocks. When he'd gone after the lady, there had been no one else there; but now there was! A girl about his size, and a man; maybe her dad? Well, that meant only one thing: PLAYMATE!

He lost no time in scuttling over to the two, glove still clutched in his hand. "Hi!"

Lillian Haladet

At the feeling of the multitude of cats in the clinic, Lillian could feel the start of a migraine coming on. But still, she was a trained professional. If she could handle the business end of a weapon of mass destruction, she could handle a few Gaian children. Right?

Luna, on the other hand, watching her commander's office with interest, couldn't keep a giggle down.

Steal
Ilex sighed as he set two of the kiki down on the floor, struggling to get the last one to come out of his pocket and stop chewing the lineing out. He smiled at the boy who came to visit his sister, trying to usher her over to play as he moved to write down what he was here for. Kittens and his sister all amounted to hard work.

Cell blinked at the boy who came to see her, her lips curling. "Hi there.. Im Cell." She smiled and sat down, tipping her head to the side, which caused the kiki on it to slide a bit. "Wuzz your name?" She looked at the glove and bit her lower lip. "Wuzzat?" She pointed at it, causeing one of the kiki to swat at the boy's hand playfully.

Luna Edae
ninja , said Luna as she caught sight of a familiar face, albeit a grown one. But no matter, she'd grown, too. So there.

ninja , she said as she inched closer to Ilex's back. ninja , she said once again as she inched closer, closer, closer, clooooooooooooooooser...

And mrgreen , Luna said as she purposefully leaned in to lick his cheek.

Cajmera
Grinning, Remy poked at his chest as Cell introduced herself. He could do that! "Remy. H'come your stuffed aminals move, Cell?" Poking at the pawing kiki, the redhead's face was stretched in a wide grin; that was so utterly cool! Much as he loved Turtle, he'd always been sadly disappointed by his relative state of inertness; no matter how hard Remy tried, he just couldn't get him to move. At least, not when Remy was around.

Looking down at the glove, he held it up proudly, ignoring the dribblets of water that were still running out of it. "It's a glove...didja know you can put water in it?" Definitly useful knowledge.

Steal
Ilex had been leaning over a peice of paper that had thankfully been left where he could write what was needed. He gasped as he felt someone lick him, and turned his head to look at a woman a bit older than him. He blinked a few times, knowing the look in those eyes.

Luna? He flushed a bit and looked down, biteing his lower lip a bit. There really could be little doubt. He knew very few people, and only one had eyes like her.

Time had rushed past though, kind of leaving him mildly behind. He shifted a bit and smiled. It has been a while. Uh.. er.. Oh, that is my little sister Cell over there. My .. My dad.. er.. got pregnant.. well turned into a girl and got pregnant.. and Cell was born.

Steal

Cell giggled and looked at the glove and her kiki's reaction to it. More than one of them were moving in closer now, looking confused and curious. "They move cause, they is not toys. They are guardians. My Daddy is like them too. He is black though" She nodded and pet one of the kiki's who blinked cutely and climbed back onto her head. The blue eyed feline purred and flicked its tail. "If they is toys.. I am half toy!"

She looked down at the glove gasping. "It holds water. That sounds fun. Does it hold other stuff too?"

Luna Edae
Luna tilted her head to the side, grinning at Ilex. She's cute. But she seems to have found a friend to play with already.

Steal
Ilex nodded and looked back at his paper. yes, it seems she has, which means for a while my clothing will be safe from her little monsters. He shook his head in amusement before finishing his note requesting an appointment for Cell to get her shots. Where have you been all this time. I have not seen you in years. I figured you had just moved away or something.

Cajmera
Guardians? And what, pray tell, was a guardian? He'd seen a movie that had had guardians in it, only they were statutues. The kitties disn't look like statues, and neither did Cell...though he had to admit that she was gray like one. For a moment wondered if that meant she was stone...but no. She looked furry, like Badru. And she had a cat face!

Looking curiously from the kikis to Cell, Remy boldy reached out and poked one. "What'z guardians? And how you you be half them? And how is you daddy like them?" Confused, he turned to look at Ilex; he didn't look like a kiki...or black, for that matter.

But like most kids, he was easily distracted; grinning at the praise to his glove, he nodded his head solemnly. "It holds hands...see?" And he stuck his hand into the glove. "Prob'ly holds other stuff, too!"

Luna Edae
I've been... working. Luna shrugged sheepishly. I went back to Neilan for a while for school, and then... here, I was just so busy with school and work that there hasn't been much else for me to do. ...Or maybe we just keep missing each other.

She peered at the note, frowning. ...you can't speak?

Steal
Cell giggled again and she looked at the kiki's. "They is to keep me safe. Daddy is like them. Ilex is like mommy.. Dat is Ilex!" She pointed over at her big brother before whispering to one of the Kiki, sending it over to attack his feet.

A moment later she was again stareing at the glove, grinning. "Oh hands fit.. its big on yer hand. Ummm does ... does.. kiki fit in it?"

Steal

Ilex blinked and looked confused. I thought you knew I couldn't speak. I never could. Cell can, she got lucky I guess but I have been mute since birth. He leaned against the desk and sighed. I never really minded though. I guess being silent means that some people forget I can hear though. It makes it hard to make friends. I really haven't.

Cajmera
Ilex? Maybe Ilex was for Cell like Kaja was for Remy...a big sister! No, brother, he guessed. That was right, huh? But that still didn't explain the kikis. "Keep you safe? How?" Poking curiously at the kiki again, he tried to figure out exactly how the mewly little toy-things could keep anyone safe. "Do they keep Cell from being stoled?" That made sense, really..

..And so did putting a kiki in a glove. "Dunno...we could check!" After all, it was a pretty big glove. Taking his hand out, he flipped it upside down like a bag and held it out. This could be good for carryin' stuff...

Luna Edae
Luna's frown grew deeper. It really HAS been a long time. I can speak...

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh," she demonstrated.

It's making words verbally that's difficult. You know... Dr. Haladet is Neilani like me. ...She can understand emotion. You don't have to write notes to her.

Steal
Cell smiled and nodded. "They keep me from being tooked. They also let others know where I am.." She smiled and picked up one of the kiki's causeing it a mild panic attack as she stuffed the poor thing into the glove.

The kiki in the glove mewed and kicked a bit, not enjoying the feeling of being stuffed in anything.

Ilex gasped as he felt something start to chew on his pantleg and foot and he looked down. Shakeing his head he pried the white feline off his foot and held it in his hands.

Opening his mouth Ilex tried to make the same sound, makeing nothing more than a whooshing sound of air leaving his lungs. Nothing. I have been told my vocal cords are.. well they are broken I guess.

Cajmera
Oh, so they were more of an alarm. That made more sense. But at the moment, Remy's attention was more focused on the struggling kiki. "I dun' think it likes being in there. Maybe it's too squished?"

Luna Edae
Luna patted Ilex on the head reassuringly. Well, she could understand him, and that was all that mattered, right?

Humming to himself, Remy sat on a swing in the backyard, gaze intent on his bare toes as he wiggled them into the warm sand. He'd finally come to the conclusion that shoes were a frivolous thing when one was out playing; if they weren't coming untied, they were getting stuck in holes in the ground, or making him trip somehow. And even though tripping never hurt, it was a major waste of time to always have to get up after falling, especially when he fell while playing tag or something.

Besides that, he had tough feet. He knew this for a fact, 'cause he'd started checking them every day after that nice lady at the clinic had explained to him the way that red...well, blood (he knew it was blood, cause Kaja had explained it to him) was important to the way that the body worked, or something like that.

That didn't mean that he was any less talented at slicing himself open than he'd been in the past; it just meant that now he checked himself out when he fell or went running around barefoot. He was still curious as to what he'd look like if he were deflated, but Mum and Kaja had always seemed worried about something like that happening to him and he didn't like them to worry.

Watching his toes as they wiggled beneath the sand, Remy's face broke into a grin. It was fun to be out without shoes; kinda sneaky, in fact, cause technically Mum always told him to make sure he put on shoes so he didn't cut his feet on sharp grass or something like that. But how, he wondered, could grass cut him? He'd spent an entire afternoon experimenting with every plant in the backyard that he could get his hands on, but none of them had cut him; not even one! Obviously Mum needed to get her facts in order.

Still, Remy didn't like to think that he was disobeying, thus the reason he now systematically checked his feet. But they had calluses enough to handle wandering in the backyard; and besides that, there wasn't anything dangerous out here anyway.

Slipping off the swing, Remy flopped down into the sand and poked at his toes, then rolled over so that he was lying on his back. Sand was nice to lie in, especially when it was heated. And it was fun to be buried in, when there was someone to bury him! But right now Kaja was at school, so she couldn't, and Mum...well, Mum technically shouldn't know he didn't have shoes on.

But thinking of Mum reminded him; it had to be almost lunch time by now, cause he was really hungry! Rising to his feet, he shook the sand out of his hair with all the energy of a puppy, then scampered off to the house. "MUUUUUMMMM!!!"

Dear Journal;
I think that we've finally been able to reach a happy medium as far as Remy's 'special ability' is concerned.

On the downside, even the doctor I spoke to at the clinic was mystified by Remy's ability. Apparently there's some sort of rare condition where the person possessing it is incapable of feeling pain...but Remy didn't turn up positive for any of the tests. Also incompatible with it being that diagnosis, he doesn't seem to be any better at breaking limbs than an ordinary child. I don't know why it is that he can't feel pain...but hopefully that will become apparent with time.

On the positive side, we've finally managed to explain to Remy just what the problem is behind him bleeding so often; as things stand now, he makes a point to come to either me or Kaja if he discovers any blood. He's a good kid, Remy; I don't know what I'd do if anything serious were to happen to him.
