both are equally good and both have their weaknesses i believe sam is to emotional and dean's weakness is he's family if anything were to happen to john or sam dean would crumble to easily but if i was to choose who i'd like better out of the two it would be dean heart

Sma doesn't really do the kill part of the hunting. He does sometimes, but he's more of the one who does the exorcisms and gets the background info, and past stories. Dean knows how to kill the things that they come across. He knows any secrets for stoping what they hunt. And then there's John. He taught the boys all he knows, if he didn't show them anything, they wouldn't know what to do. And John left the boys his journal, without that it would make things harder.
So it's really hard to say who the better hunter is. Dean and Sam need eachother and when John is there it makes things better for the two of them cause then they konw that their dad is alright.
I'd have to say that the Dean and Sam combo is the best. They are all good hunters, but Dean and Sam together makes one hell of a hunter.

SamWinchester talk about who you think the better hunter is I think Daddy Winchester is the best hunter! He's got the know-how, the brains, AND the experience. Out of the two boys though, I think Dean might edge it out over Sam - Sam takes the time to think it through, but I think Dean's reflex's are better, and when it comes down to it, the hard grit is more useful to a hunter (more spur of the moment things, than planning ahead). Plus he's been at it longer. Sam's brains have been filled with school books! lol

I think it's pretty hard to determine which is the better hunter.
Dean has obviously had more experience. He (from what I've seen) could possible be stronger phsyically (although Sam's greater height gives Dean a slight disadvantage). In the spur of the moment, Dean has proved time and time again to have faster reactions- he's able to think under pressure. I'm not saying that Sam crumbles under pressure, 'cause that isn't true.
One major difference between the two is that Dean is genually commited to doing what he does. Sam, is in it to find there father and most importantly avenge Jess' death. Anger- can seriously cloud one's judgement. take the second last episode as an example- Sam was willing to run straight back into the fire to kill that demon with no regards whatsoever to his life.
Sam is more booksmart. He enjoys reading and researching, therefor he will be most likely show more knowledge in that area, because he obviously has no real problems with reading for hours on end. Dean isn't dumb. If he really wanted to he could most definately find whatever info he wanted to. He has also shown in each of the episodes an extensive knowledge of the paranormal.
In the end, I would have to say Dean is the stronger hunter. He has the brains, the dedication and the brawn. However, as a team- they're even stronger.
