http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g23/melodymh4/doe.jpgCharacter Personality : She is a kind and sweet girl that believes everyone has a good side, therefore she trusts almost everybody. A very optimistic girl, however she hates snobby, proud people, although she tries to find the goodness in them, she has less patience with them. Due to a little 'thing', running in her family, she tends to have a few bursts of short term memory losses. (Hence having a nickname by her classmates, Dory.xD Y’know, the blue fish in Finding Nemo?) She was home schooled before the orphanage. (Orphaned at 12 years old) She is rather clumsy though; keeps tripping on her own feet and speaks her mind.
Character Background:
Doe was born in Singapore, an only child. Her mother, Sophie Lockheart, was an English teacher before she had met her business-man husband, Denny Myranders. After that, her mother decided to help out in the company, helping to entertain guests and be a good hostess. In short, she was a regular rich woman. However, although Doe’s parents were rich and she was their only daughter, she wasn’t pampered at all. They were both, in fact busy the whole day, leaving Doe to face empty walls and servants everyday, resulting in a very unhappy childhood. No one showed her any love. Moreover, she wasn’t allowed to go to public schools and make friends, she was home schooled and even had extra lessons on etiquette and such. However, she was quite clumsy at dancing and ballet, and was scolded often. At the age of 10, her parents hired a piano teacher to teach her yet another subject, which in fact, made her quite happy. She soon developed an interest for it and looked forward to it, as her teacher was a kind and understanding woman. That was the only love she could get in the empty house. Through this teacher, Doe learned much more than piano notes, she learnt how to keep a positive outlook in life.
However, her entire life fell apart 2 years later. Her parents were on a flight to Europe for yet another business venture. Having finished her homework early, Doe was allowed to watch television. Halfway through happily watching an episode of Charmed, it was interrupted. The newscaster announced about a devastating plane accident which was headed for Prague…and had Doe’s parents in it. As Doe was still underage, she was not allowed to inherit her family’s fortune. Everyone was fired and the mansion was put up for sale. Even her piano teacher had to leave. Doe was then sent to an orphanage. At least, finally, she could have a normal life…almost. She started going to school, despite efforts to fit in, she was often laughed at for her short memory and clumsiness. Even though she had a small lease of freedom in the world outside the orphanage, it was still limited.
After a lesson where she was given an English assignment to do, writing a journal entry, Doe found a portal to release her thoughts in, and also help her remember things around her. She started writing in her journal, penning down all her hopes and fears, and everything she could remember of her life before the orphanage.
How does your Character get to/why was your character chosen for the Island? Evan was bored. He, a Feral Labs assistant, was sent to the most sweltering hot place in the world, Singapore. Like, hello! This place was practically sitting on the Equator! Of course, that wasn’t important. What was, was finding a subject for his boss. And he didn’t know how to do it, being an amateur. How were you supposed to do it, walk up to a person and say, “Hello, would you like to be turned into an animal?” People would probably think he was a lunatic.
“Oh stop barking,” he snapped at his roommate’s prized purebred Siberian Husky who had given birth a few weeks ago. How annoying. That meant more fur around the flat.
He stared at the puppies for a moment. So hyper, so…trusting. A strange look came over his face as something clicked into his brain. He slipped into his room and rummaged in one of his still open, a.k.a. unpacked, luggage. Evan shut the door quietly and went to work.
Hours later, he strutted out with a smirk, picking a puppy up. The little animal struggled against his grasp but he held it firmly and adjusted the collar over it. “Tracking device and sound receiver,” he mumbled, “I’m such a genius!” He left the flat and released the pup into the pouring rain. It ran, desperate to get away from the cold cruel hands and Evan smiled.
The after school bell had just rung and every student had poured out to school and Doe stared out miserably at the downpour. No one offered to share an umbrella with her, and anyone she asked, looked at her as if she had cooties. Sighing as she remembered she had to get back to the orphanage, she drew her cat closer to her and hurried out into the rain. Finally, she found herself in front of the gate and as she was about to place her hand on the metal handle, a whimpering sound came from her shoes. Blinking, she squatted down and examined the bedraggled fur ball. Picking the puppy up, she wrapped it inside her coat, feeling its shivering contest with her own.
After drying off and naming the pup Alfe, Doe had no idea that almost every mouth that came out of her mouth was heard by Evan. He learnt a lot of information about her, but the juicy tidbit was that her mother was connected to Dr. Lockheart. After much research, Evan discovered that the two were in fact cousins, but were not on good terms due to a small tiff in their teenage years. He approached the orphanage, introduced himself as a talent scout looking for a student to enter an international school. Doe jumped at the offer, accepting it immediately, wanting to escape from the taunts in the orphanage. Little did she know, that she would learn more than education…
What Animal Serum do you want?: Mini Lop(German Lop) Rabbit(Serum 54)
Ref pic-http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/cd/Pepito4.jpg/180px-Pepito4.jpg
Describe your ideal 100% appearance: Doe would get a little shorter in height and be covered in brown fur with some white at her tummy area. As a mini lop rabbit anthro, she will have a robust body, blocky head, floppy ears, and long thick hair. Her hind legs will become stronger and have four toes on each leg. She will also have paws and her hair will be shorter as she will have cut it to deal better with the heat. Of course, her nose would become all woffly and sprout whiskers, and her front teeth would grow a little larger.
Of course, the artist could surprise me!xD
Why this animal/plant for your character?: It would be a little hilarious as Alfe would be puzzled by Doe’s changes. To him, she smells like a rabbit, but she sounds like his owner. He would even try to chase her. xD Doe’s much of an outgoing girl, so she’ll become much more timid and afraid to express her opinions as before. Oh, and I’ve always loved lop-eared rabbits. They seem much shyer than others.
Instead of Doe becoming welcoming and wanting to know more about others, she’d become much quieter and be terrified of new people, especially those who are trying to eat her. She’d still be her sweet self though. Anyway, it would be better if she would stop being so curious a.k.a. nosy on the island. It isn’t good to be.
People might think that I would have chosen the blue fish Dory actually is, because it seems to be ironic. I didn’t want Doe to go through being a fish though. Poor girl. She already knows how to swim anyway.
Plus, Moreau didn’t want to go so hard on Aubrey, her niece being a subject, so he chose a…not so violent animal. (Pardon me, but it makes kinda of sense.)Even if Aubrey had a tiff with her cousin, Doe did nothing wrong. So if Moreau made her into some sort of predator, she would still go all defensive, perhaps.(Hey, look at how she reacted to Natsumi…) So he just randomly chose a timid animal.
What do you think really makes this concept? Doe is from a small island of Singapore in South East Asia, which is unique for it’s multi-racial society. This makes Doe be open to all sorts of different people. Even though there is another questor that is ALSO Singaporean, however, I feel that Doe is more unique as she is a Eurasian, a mixed blood. This means that her father is a European and her mother is an Asian. The two races are mixed together to form the word, Eurasian. This makes Doe see things from different societies, the Asian view, and the European view. She can also speak Chinese (Although she doesn’t look like it) and knows a little Malay and Indian as well. And as a Singaporean…she speaks Singlish, being influenced by her classmates during those 3 years. Singlish is an English-based creole spoken colloquially in Singapore. It has a unique slang and syntax, which are more pronounced in informal speech. Doe won’t exactly use this often on the island, as Singlish may be difficult to understand for speakers of standard varieties. She will speak understandable English unless she gets agitated or emotional, she might forget herself and start bursting out in Singlish. Or even Chinese.
More about Singlish-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SinglishBesides, why all those people needed to the island for some cure to their disease? The serum ISN’T going to cure Doe’s absent-mindedness; it’s a quirk of hers. What’s wrong with a normal teenager that wants to help on the island? Think of all the interesting chases people would give her, not really Jamal but also the other dogs like Pyroth, Avery, just to name a few.
And if Doe ever lost her journal or someone stole it…she’d probably wake up one morning and not remember a thing. Think of all the fun Sabin could have making up excuses for everything she’s puzzled about.
And having just a normal teenager on the island is good, no?
PROMPT: B.
“I can’t believe I actually have a chance to get to an international school!” Doe said excitedly, bouncing Alfe on her lap. Actually, it was more along the lines of leaving the place with lots of bad memories.
The puppy yipped back in response, as if understanding his master’s thoughts, wiggling slightly in her arms. James shifted slightly in the pilot’s seat at this; seemingly quiet as he continued maneuvering the helicopter. It seemed as though this girl was innocent and a teenager too no doubt. He could see and hear that nothing seemed wrong with her. So why was she brought to the island other than being Dr. Lockheart’s niece?(Some gossip had leaked out) Was the doctor getting influenced by Moreau’s cold-heartiness too? He couldn’t believe this. Lifting his head slightly to stare into the mirror at the girl, she was still playing animatedly with her pet, under the delusion of a dream come true, it seemed. Suddenly, Doe sat up straight, her eyes fixated on ahead.
“It’s beautiful,” she said, softly, but it was loud enough for the burly pilot to hear.
Biting his lip in anger, James could stand it no longer, “Look Miss, I hafta tell you something.” He HAD to tell her. He couldn’t just sit here and deliver her to that mad island without her at least knowing her dire future.
“Yes Sir?” Doe cocked her head in curiosity, giving a smile to the pilot, “Oh…did I drop anything? Or was I just disturbing you…”
His head throbbed badly. She seemed like such a polite, young girl and yet… “Uh…it’s James Brodstrom. Ya can just call me James. Look, it’s not that, I hafta tell you…the island’s not as what it seems. It’s not an international school as you think!” he blurted out the last sentence, mentally kicking himself for not taking it any slower.
A change seemed to come over the teenager’s face and she froze in her seat. As Alfe tried to jump out of her arms unsuccessfully, she blinked and shook her head, as if to clear whatever he had just said, “Oh…is this some kind of prank they play on all newcomers? I…expected it to come from the students…” she tried to keep her tone but it faltered slightly as she caught sight of his grim face in the mirror. “…Why? Then…what is it?” It was more of a thought which she had said aloud then a question.
“It’s all Dr. Moreau’s fault. He’s in charge of the island, and in fact…he’s turning people into experiments. Like, you’re a guinea pig!” James fumed, shaking his head.
“So…if you’re against it, why don’t you bring me and the others back?” Doe didn’t doubt the burly pilot any longer. He seemed pretty serious. She had guessed from his speech that there were others also.
“I…wish, but they’ll track me, my family down. Moreau’s a person who won’t hesitate to get revenge. I’m really sorry, miss.” He started to bring the helicopter down slowly as he caught sight of the white haired man standing near the helipad.
“I’m Doe. And really…I understand the tough decision you have to make. You…are a nice person, Mr Brodstrom.” As the helicopter landed on the helipad, the teenager felt the corner of her eyes start to redden. It wasn’t fair, either to him or her.
“I wish you well,” James whispered as she stepped out, and he placed his trembling hands on the controls to take the helicopter away. He wished that he shouldn’t have taken up this job.
“Welcome to the school, Ms Myranders. I’m Dr. Duvert, a teacher here.”
Walking to the jeep with the white-haired “teacher”(Funnily enough, he didn’t seem that old), Doe turned her head back and watched the helicopter rise up and disappear into the horizon.
Getting into the jeep, she paused for a moment, letting herself think of what the pilot had just said. Strapping on her seatbelt and turning to Dr. Duvert, she opened her mouth, “So…” she took a deep breath, preparing herself for the words she was about to say.
“What subject do you teach?”
(To be filled in to the first page soonish. xD
And I decided to hack off the wings in this entry, cause I couldn't afford it.)
