In the morning Tara had to nearly drag Aysel away from her cousin. It was only with the promise of a shopping trip and a chance for Alaqua to come visit that the mage managed to head out. Fully recovered from the previous days exertions, the mage summoned their mode of transportation. A silverly bubble slowly formed a few inches above the ground. Slipping in, Aysel and Tara sped off towards a quick trip home and then the mall.
~~~*~~~
The great thing about using a spell to transport from one place to the other was not needing a parking space. It was just as well since the place was nearly jampacked with people hunting for after-Christmas sales and attempts to return gift items. The two started at the far end of the mall and began to work their way down the stores.
Peering into a jewelery store the luna moth quickly dragged her mother in behind her. Spread on the wall in front of her were earrings, bracelets, necklaces, all sorts of cute things. Excitedly she began trying them on.
A couple blue and green bangles, etched with gold, went first. "What do you think Mommy??" Aysel asked, twisting her arm this way and that to show them off. "Though I might need more for my other wrists..." Her mom just sort of nodded, in a daze already. Asyel went back to the wall, picking out more to go with the few already on her wrist. "Oh! Look!!!" Weaving between shelves, Aysel dragged her mom to the next display, barrets. These weren't tried on, merely placed in front of her hair to be checked in the mirror. Finally the luna moth had choosen her favorite accessories. With large salmon colored eyes, she pulled the cute act. "Please can I get them...? Please?"
With a sigh, more of tiredness than sap, Tara nodded. Summoning a wane smile she paid for the trinkets. Happily Aysel took her mom's hand and the two continued their shopping expedition.
Next up was the small ice cream parlor in the mall. Without even asking, Aysel's mom ordered two large sundaes. Becoming suspicous now with the generosity, the cacooned girl sat there quietly, alternating bites between each of the four arms. Quickly, so very quickly, the ice cream was finished and she still just sat there swinging her legs.
Tara sighed, not having taken more than a bite out her own sundae. "Aysel.. Yesterday... " Words failed the mage. How do you explain to your daughter that you died, came back to life, and now she was getting a little baby brother or sister? Not easily (and you seriously consider skipping the whole death part). "Yesterday, this necklace was forced on me. In..about a day, you'll be getting a baby brother or sister." Aysel's head shot up at that, though to her credit she didn't say a word. Tara sighed again. "I did not ask for this. Nor can I get out of this. We'll both have to make adjustments," the mage spoke quietly, reaching out towards Aysel.
Flinching back, the girl protested. "I don't want a brother or sister! I don't want any siblings and I don't want a baby!!" Tears began to well up in Aysel's eyes. Her mom slipped around the table, opening her arms for a hug. The word exploded as Aysel pushed herself away from the table with her lowers, bringing the upper pair of arms to sheild her. Slipping on the floor a little, the luna moth raced out of the ice cream shop.
"Aysel!" Tara tore off after her daughter.
~~~*~~~
Finally the woman caught up with Aysel, who sat sniffling in the corner of the bathroom. Gathering the luna moth up in her arms, Tara rocked her slightly. "I don't want a sibling.." the girl muttered into her mom's red blouse.
"I know sweetling... I know. I didn't want this either... But it's not going to dissapear." Tara smiled. "I know. I tried." A sticky snort/giggle escaped from the shirt. "Aysel... this baby is not going to steal me from you." Tara smoothed the girl's hair back, remember when her own baby sister was born. "He, or she, is going to take up a lot of my time..and your dragon is going to take up a lot of your time to. Or did you forget about that?" Tara teased gently.
A shake of the head was the negative. Slowly the sniffling began to slow. "You know.. I remember when my little sister was born. She was so little and my big brother and daddy were completely besotted with her. I was really upset for a while. But then I had to babysit her. And she was so cute. She grew up and now she's one of my best friends. It's going to be hard and weird for a while, but things will work out. And I'll love you just the same." Tara tilted Aysel's face up. "Feel better sweetling?"
"Not really.." the luna moth admitted quietly. Her mom squeezed her tightly and whispered conspiratorialy.
"Just think of all the shopping we get to do. You can even help me decorate the new room and pick out all the cute baby clothes. We'll even make a night out week, just the two of us. " Another sniffly laugh.
"...okay.... I guess..." Aysel said quietly, rubbing at her red runny nose. The girl accepted her hand up, and the wet wipe. Scrubbing gently at the runny paint, she clung to her mom's hand.
"Come on.. Let's go shopping," Tara said, trying to cajol a smile onto her daughter's face.

About half an hour later Tara awoke with a jerk. A warm body next to her fussed quietly, gurgling noises and small movements. Groaning the woman flopped onto her back, staring at the ceiling for a few moments. Finally Tara struggled off of the other side of the bed, before grabbing Korin. Settling him against her him and trying really hard not to giggle when the infants mouth tried to suckle her arm, the mage tried to sneak downstairs and into the kitchen.
It was rather well known that Tara was horrible at sneaking up with anyone but her twin (who was otherwise impossible to surprise). As she tried to creep by Aysel's room the luna moth opened the door. "Mommy?" Aysel blinked at her mom, eyes narrowing at the rather naked baby snuggling into her mom's arms.
Tara froze. "Aysel... Uh.. You have a brother...." The woman blurted out, too surprised to do anything else. The door slammed shut. With a sigh, Tara started to knock on her daughters door. A whimper stopped her mid air. Letting another sigh out Tara continued down to the kitchen.
Later, after feeding and burping her new son, Tara paused at her daughter's door. Knocking softly she ignored the, "Go away." Slipping into the room Tara shut the door softly. "Aysel.."
Flopping over on the bed the luna moth muttered, "I said go'way."
Tara sat down on the bed slowly, the springs creaking as she settled next her daughter. "Sweetling..." Tara began, "I'd like you to meet Korin.. Your little brother."
Reluctantly Aysel rolled over facing her mom and new brother. Grudgingly she waved at the toddler. Korin simply watched his big sister back. "... Whatever," the luna moth finally said, getting bored with the silence and Korin's lack of action.
Though it wasn't quite the warm acceptance Tara had been hoping for at least it wasn't outright hostility. "Ah.. Let's have some supper now, okay?" Aysel nodded and sullenly headed down stairs while Tara put Korin in his crib for a nap.

"Mom..." Aysel whined, barging into her mother's room. Tara, halfway through changing Korin waved a hand at Aysel. "I itch.." she complained, scatching at her cacoon covering. It didn't hurt to pull the covering as much as used which was a relief since small pieces were flaking off with every scratch.
Tara finished up with Korin, setting the boy on the floor with a few toys. Wiping her hands with a disinfectant, the woman hurried over towards Aysel.
Aysel shoved her left hands towards her mother, most of the caccon that had been on them already in flakes on the floor. "It really itches!" she complained, scratching harder. The luna moth bit her lip with a sniffle. "And I itch alll over not just 'y hands and I don't feel good." She sniffled again as her mom pulled her into a hug.
"It's allright sweetling. If it doesn't hurt to take it off then why don't we scratch it off until it hurts allright? Your cacoon is only supposed to be temporary anyway." The luna moth watched as her mom gently scratched the cacoon away. Her skin was slightly red underneath where the scratching had irritated it but it felt no worse than a mild sunburn, more discomfort than real pain. As she realized that the cacoon wasn't hurting Aysel began to help out with the peeling process.
It went much faster with six hands working at it than just two. Before long all four arms were clear of the cacoon. "Mom..." Aysel said quietly, her voice upset, "my spots wen' away.." Rubbing her arms gently the luna moth thought.
"Come on," her mommy chided, drawing the girl away from her thoughts. Fingers with long elegant nails scratched at the cacoon, "There's still a lot of you to clear off." Nodding, Aysel began to work on her feet. They didn't get too far before a small hand reached out and grabbed a piece of the silk cacoon. Reaching down, Aysel swatted it out of Korin's mouth.
"That's bad for you!" she cried putting her lower hands on her hips and shaking the piece of cacoon at Korin. "Mooooom... Korin's getting into the stuff."
Tara shook her head and picked the boy up bringing him back over to the blanket. "I could have sworn that I set you farther away than that." Getting up to finish the work on Aysel she took a few steps and glanced back. Determindly the boy crawled after his mother, not to be left out of anything interesting.
Tara glanced down as she went back to work on Aysel more, barely avoiding stepping on Korin's hand. Watching for a little bit she suddenly cheered, scooping him up and swinging him around. Just as quickly she sketched a large square on the ground and plopped him inside of it. "Congratulations," Tara whispered, pressing a kiss to his forehead before hurrying back to a very jealous luna moth.
Crossing her top arms Aysel continued to pick away at her cocoon a dark cloud on her face. The two went back to work.
Nearly an hour later, the luna moth was onto the last parts. Lying down on her mother's bed, Aysel clenched the soft shimmering sheets, wriggling every so often. Every so often her mom would reach a particularly ticklish spot and she have to try hard not to giggle. As Tara pulled back the last piece of cacoon, Aysel streached out, nearly hitting her mother in the face. Though she had felt them growing, the luna moth wasn't entirely sure what the new 'limbs' were. Struggling for a moment she finally figured out how to move the wings up and down and back and forth. "Mommy?" Aysel asked, creating a small breeze with her new wings.
"They're beautiful sweetling. Georgous..." Tara smiled at her daughter, surreptiously wiping away a tear. "but they look a little wet. Why don't you stay there and let them dry. I'll go make salads for supper." She said with a smile and a kiss.

Dear Aunt Leia,
Today my dragon hatched. We went to pick him up and take him hope. I decided to name him Apala. Mom helped me pick it out. It was the name of a dragon who protected a villiage. Then the village took him for granted and he burned it down. I won't ever take Pala for granted.
Mom says she needs to spell the house soon. I hope it doesn't end up like last time. I don't want another sibling. It's really cool having Pala around. Korin's scared of him. But Mom said that won't last long.
Did you hear that I got wings! Their really pretty. Maybe Pala and I can fly together. That's better than swimming. The dragon teacher said Apala likes to swim. I don't. He also said that Apala will eventually get bad breath and brushing won't help any.
Apala gets to sleep in my room. He barely fits up the stairs but when he learns to fly he can fly in the window. He's a bronze but he looks more yellow right now.
I'm going to go play with Apala.
Love, Aysel

Dear Leia,
Hello! How have you been? I bet work is...frustrating right about now. I'm sorry I had to leave so early after the 'incident' but I couldn't have left Niki's daughter all alone with all those kids. It's just as well, when I came back they were about to turn themselves into statues. While I'm sure they would have been beautiful I'm not so sure D-corp would have been pleased about it.
I'm worried about Aysel, perhaps you in your infinite wisdom could help me out? After finding them in my workroom I had a talk with Aysel about how dangerous playing around with magical artifacts can be. I thought she understood. But just this morning I found her poking around in my desk. She's always been good about listening to me ever since that incident at the beach. I..over-reacted I think. I grounded her for a week, no trips to the mall or phone calls. What's even worse is she's lying to me. I caught her there red-handed and she denied it and even talked Apala into agreeing with her. I don't know what to do. I don't want to ground her, she's already declared she's not speaking to me and that I am the worst mother ever, and she hates D-corp for forcing me to take her in. I know Madame trained me to ignore insults but I don't know how much more I can survive of this. Please. Ask Mom what I should do...
Other than Aysel's sudden rebellion, Korin's grown a bit too. And now he seems to be getting shy, particularly with Aysel. Which is odd, I know they haven't been buddy buddy but it's be like you suddenly being scared of our dear bird-brained brother. Human children are so.. strange. I know we weren't... We were just michevious. I'll send you a new picture of them but right now I've got to see if I can get Aysel down to eat supper with us.
Love,
Tara

As the family arrived back home, a small pearly pink blur darted under the couch. No one but Apala noticed it but, when the dragon tried to tell Aysel she just swatted him away.
With a heavy sigh Tara flopped onto the couch, not hearing the small squeak from under there. "Aysel, I need to talk to Korin alone. You and Apala please wait for me in your room," the woman announced glancing at Korin.
A deep frown creased the luna moth's face. "No. You said we'd have the run of the house while grounded. I'm not going," she emphasized with a stomp of her foot. Growling in disagreement, Apala tugged on Aysel's skirt. With a swat at him the luna moth growled back. "I said no."
Tara straightened up and pointed to the stairs. "Go to your room," the woman demanded. For a minute longer Aysel defied her mom, before caving and stomping upstairs, Apala following her.
Korin watched quietly tugging uneasily on his shirt and trying his hardest to blend into the woodwork of the front room. Swallowing hard he started towards the door.
Freezing at the look that was shot to him, Korin decided to stare at the ground instead. "Korin," came his mother's voice, "sit down next to me." Reluctantly the boy dragged himself over the couch, recognizing the tone in Tara's voice.
Dragging himself up onto the uncomfortable couch the boy swung his feet, watching the ground. "Korin. I'm very upset with you," came the stern voice. "You snuck into my workroom, which is off limits, but most importantly you lied." Wincing he dug his hands into the couch.
"Look at me Korin. You knew that Aysel was getting punished for this but you didn't say a word. I'm disappointed in you. You will be grounded and take over all of Aysel chores."
The boy's head shot up. "But Mommy!"
"You should have told the truth," came the quick rebuttal. "Go to your room and think about what you did." Reluctantly Korin headed upstairs, followed by his mom.
Though her son headed to his room, Tara moved to the much larger room that Aysel and Apala occupied. Apala was curled up around Aysel, murmuring to the sulking girl in draconic.
The woman took a deep breath, and walked in. "Aysel..." The woman cajoled, gesturing to the bed.
With a flip of the hair, the girl snapped back, "Go away." Curling up into Apala she spread her wings to hide her form.
Ignoring her daughter's demand the woman sat down on the bed, facing the the two of them. Swallowing her pride, Tara fidgeted a bit trying to overcome her pride. "Aysel... I'd like to apologize." The luna moth swiveled around, jaw dropping open. "Ms. Rouge.. she had a tape of Korin disguising himself as you through an illusion. I treated you unfairly. Korin will be taking over your chores while he's grounded."
Slowly the preteen stood up. "Seriously?" the girl asked. "You mean.. You believe me?" Eyes beginning to sparkle, Aysel contemplated all the things she would do once she was able to get out the house. "Like... Pala and I could go to the mall?" She squeeed when her mom nodded. "C'mon Apala!" The luna moth raced out of the room, dragon following her excitedly.
With a sigh Tara buried her face in her hands, defeat deep in her posture.

Dear Aunt Leia,
Mom ungrounded me the other day and I finally got to go back to the mall. Guess what! There were tons of girls my age there! So I went over to talk to them and apparently they go to school allll day long and then have a the entire summer off. Why don't they just do a couple hours in the morning and go all year round? It makes much more sense and you get time to play and shop more.
They all looked really cute and we decided to hang out together and shop. It was Allisa and Tara, who really pronouces it Terra, and Madison and Lacey. They were all normal except for Madison who had this magic past life thing going on and they thought my wings were beautiful. Apala didn't like them though. I think I'm going to keep them secret from him. Though that might be impossible since he follows me *everywhere*. It's really annoying. Well, I've got to go, the girls invited me to a sleepover and I can't wait to go.
Tata!

Dear Leia,
I think you need to come and visit for a bit. I'm over my head here. Aysel's... I love her dearly but she's always been a bit of a flake. When D-corp called saying they needed some help I thought it would be a good opportunity for her to start learning some responsibility. They said the kids just needed to talk to the dragons and that they'd be perfectly safe, techs watching them and everything.
I don't know what happened but she won't come out of her room! She won't talk to me, she won't talk to Apala, hell. She doesn't even want to see Apala. And Apala, he tried to tell me but he just doesn't know the words and dragon claws aren't conducive to drawing.
Leia, you've got to come immediately.

Dear Journal,
Mom and Korin have been bugging me to get out of my room for ages now. Even Apala is. But... I.. what if they make me go again? That dragon just spit out the arm like it was a piece of bubblegum! It... it was... I've seen some movies over at Lacey's, you know, where there's all this blood and everything but.. it's fake you know? This was real.. And there's a lot less blood than in the movies. It was almost worse...
No one understands. Not mom, not Korin, not even Apala. I can't talk to the girls about it. They'll laugh, I know they will. They'd think it was just like a movie, cool or something. But it wasn't. It was horrible and messy and I just stood there. I couldn't help and I couldn't run and.. A large block of text is smeared. I don't want anything to do with stuff like that ever again. I'm just going to stay in my room forever!

The wind whipped the trees back and forth as the rain pounded the ground. The sound of the rain was so loud it nearly drowned out the knocking at the door. Looking up at the new noise, Korin dropped his book down on the kitchen table. "Coming!" the godling called.
Opening the door the boy smiled in some confusion at the surprisingly dry individual stranger. "Can I help you, sir?" Korin asked, kinda glancing around for an umbrella.
The stranger wiped a lock of snow white hair away from his face and smiled back at the pre-teen. "Yes, I'm looking for a Miss Tara ****** Mom! Just a minute, I'll go get her." Korin replied, closing the door for a moment and headed towards the stairs. Hanging onto the stair rail, the godling shouted up the stairs. "MOM, SOMEONE WANTS TO SEE YOU!" he called before skittering back to the door.
The pre-teen peeked through the window at the stranger studying him. The man had brown hair, pulled back in a ponytail with a streak of white in half his bangs. A sharp nose and some funny blue tunic and pants.
Finally his mother came downstairs with a heavy sigh and a shake of her head. "Go up and see if you can't get Aysel to come down, won't you?" Tara asked wearily. Korin nodded grimly before heading up the stairs.
Slowly Tara opened the door and studied the dry stranger standing there. "I'm Tara, may I help you?"
The man gave a bright smile. "I believe you might," he replied, pulling out a manilla envelope. Tara's heart plummeted, fearing the man was a salesman or worse, about to blackmail her into taking care of another child. "My name is Taliesin," Taliesin continued oblivious to the sudden dismay, "and I believe that you have sponsored me though the G.H.E. program here on Gaia," the man held the envelope out to Tara.
Slowly Tara took the envelope, flipping through the papers inside. Looking up she nodded at the young man and stood back from the door. "Come in.."
Leading Taliesin into the formal parlor, Tara gestured for towards one of the slightly more comfortable couches. Sitting opposite the young man, Tara watched him carefully. He simply smiled back, either completely comfortable or extremely adept at hiding it. Finally the mage nodded and opened the conversation.
"Taliesin, may I inquire as to your purpose?" the woman asked formally polite. The clock ticked loudly in the silence that followed as the young man struggled with his choice of words.
"Well.. There was ... an... accident..." the man finally choose. "The uh planet is...." His voice choked up and he gave himself a shake. Forcing a smile onto his face, "No longer available.. And.. well.." Blinking sharply to keep the tears back Taliesin continued. "Due to an accident..." Unable to hold back any longer the young man broke down.
The mage sat there, stiff and still as the man sobbed. Finally she got up and patted his shoulder awkwardly. She was used to children crying but grown men? It was supposed to be something private and personal and here this stranger had broken down in the living room.
Slowly the sobs turned into hiccups as Taliesin got himself under control. Quickly the mage returned to the other side of the room. "Sorry," came the soft mutter from the man as he drew out a handkerchief. He blew his nose noisily and wiped at his face before putting the cloth away. "I.. need a place to stay, just for a bit. I was hoping...?"
Tara hesitated, wanting to turn the strange man away. On the other hand, she was his sponser and had responsiblity for him. Even if she had simply done it to look 'human'. "Very well," she finally said reluctantly, "You may stay until you can find your own place." The man jumped up and hugged her impuslively, a brilliant smile washing away most of the evidence of his tears.
"Thank you so much.. I won't be much of a bother. If there's any chores I can do or anything. Really." Taliesin blathered on as Tara shook herself, taking a step away from the impulisive man.
"Yes well.. Let me show you to your room," the mage said shakily, gesturing to the hallway.

Dear Journal,
I've been really bad about writing in you. I've been hanging out with my friends lately. They're so amazing. We went to a Halloween party for Korin. It was completely lame. Reign made a much better fortune teller than the one that was there. And the Haunted House wasn't scary at all. Spagetti? Please. That's kid stuff.
I got this cute new skirt the other day. It's made out of different strips of pink silk and it looks so adorable. But I don't have any top that goes with it and Mom said that we can't spend more money on 'froo-froo stuff'. A shirt is not froo-froo. Whatever that means.
Maybe I can sell some of my smaller clothes? At least that way, even if I don't get enough money Korin will stop wearing them out. >< I can't believe I have a little brother who wears dresses. He even fills them out better than I do... Hmph. He's a boy. He should wear boy's clothes.
Well, I guess I'll talk later after the holidays. Man... I hope it's calm this year.
