"Oh, definintly. At least in the same building, if nothing else. We only have two buildings open right now - one right by the labs, and one by the gardens. Do you have a preference?"
They were going to need to open a new building soon, Dacian realized. There were other buildings that could easily be converted to housing, just a bit further back in the forest - not even that far, just with a line or two of trees seperating from the rest of the compound.
After all, they had the three mages - Ismet had a room at each one's home, though he was lately staying at Ahneta's since she wasn't there - and all the children.
At the funny face comment, the man wasn't anywhere near offended - he just started making 'funny' faces at the little boy on purpose.

"The gardens might be nice. I haven't lived near any nice scenery in a while."
Remi smiled at the newness of everything. New child, new home, and most certainly new people to meet. She figured one of these days she'd meet the other mages that Dacian worked with. Life had been getting dull, might as well make it interesting.
Gavin was already making life interesting, trying to imitate the strange man's funny faces. Geez, he made things difficult. After a few minutes he got bored of the faces, but he still thought the man looked strange. He wondered what his face would feel like. And how do we find things out? We touch them of course! And so the little hawk child spontaneously wriggled out of Remi's grasp and made a leap for Dacian's face.

The last thing Dacian, who had just turned his attention back to Remi, expected was for a little winged toddler to dive at his face. Or jump, as that was a bit more appropriate..
And being that he wasn't expecting it, he wasn't able to do anything before the little toddler collided with him - and their knocked together with a resounding thud. Staggering backwards, he barely managed to keep Gavin from falling to the ground - though he quickly put him down.
And rubbing his forehead, he gave a rueful look at Remi and spoke, "Well...at least now I can reassure Hadrian that my head isn't hollow."

"Oh my god! I'm so sorry!"
Remi apologized amid trying to figure out how Gavin had sprung out of her arms. Those feathers sure were slippery. "Are you okay?"
Gavin, on the other hand, was inspecting his hands. Well, the strange man's face sure felt normal. It was a little rougher than his own, but he was hoping that it would feel like something more interesting. And now he was sitting on the floor, the cold floor. His bottom was starting to hurt, so he tried to stand up and walk a bit. Unfortunately whatever new adventure he could start on was ended abruptly by Remi scooping him back up in her arms.
"That was not a nice thing to do, Gavin. That's a 'no-no'!"
Gavin blinked. 'No-no?' That sounded bad, very bad. He'd only wanted to touch the strange man's face. Is that so bad? And now his new--what was she called? Mommee? Something like that. Anyways, Mommee was giving him a stern look as she said, "You tell Mr. Dacian that you're sorry."
What manner of speaking was this? Apologize to the strange man? Him?! He was the one with the strange face! Still, Mommee's evil look was scarier.
"Sowwy," he muttered indignantly.

"I'm fine, don't worry about it," Dacian straightened up, shaking his head slightly. It was more being startled then actually injured, though he had a feeling there would be a bruise later.
He eyed the young child in Remiyah's arms, and made a mental note to put them on a floor that wasn't directly connected to his - and since he had the ground floor, that wouldn't be too difficult. Probably be fine to put them on third of fourth, though Ahneta had the fifth...
"It's alright, kiddo," Grinning at Gavin, he mused over the fact that this reminded him of cats, "When I was little, there was this kitten I always played with. We'd start staring at each other, then he would leap at my head - that little stunt brings back memories."
With a chuckle, he gestured for them to follow him, "Well, lets get going, hm?"

Remi felt bad that Gavin managed to jostle the poor mage. Hopefully this wouldn't lead to future avoidances. She'd just have to make sure that her little boy would learn that jumping on people's faces wasn't a great way to make friends.
However, Gavin thought it was a wonderful way to make friends. Mr. Dacian was still being nice, wasn't he? What was this talk of kittens? Are they fun? They leap too?! Could he have one?
"Kiddten! Want kiddten!"
Oh dear, Remi thought. The last thing she needed was to get him a pet. Maybe when he was a teenager, but definitely not now. Well, maaaybe, but it was highly unlikely. Maybe a change of surroundings would get his mind off kittens and such.
"Yes, let's go shall we? Lead the way!"

Somehow, a hawk having a pet kitten didn't strike Dacian as the best idea. He was entertained by the idea however, as well as his mental image of a full grown hawk carrying around a kitten by the scruff of its neck like a mother cat.
Of course, a hawk would be far more likely to eat a kitten when done.
Then he turned, letting the other two follow him up and out of the labs, and then crossed the central courtyard. As they neared the building, he pointed out the gardens to them.
"If you need to find me, I'm there a lot."
Then he led them into the building, and stepped to what seemed to be a set of lockers in the wall. Pulling out a key, he opened them up - and it was rather peculiar looking inside. There were five pegs, each with two keys attached. Grabbing the keys from the fourth peg, he turned and handed them to Remi.
"One spare, but you can make copies if you'd like."

Holding Gavin tightly so as to avoid another face-leaping incident, Remi followed Dacian out of the labs and past the gardens. This place wouldn't be too bad to live in. The gardens were really pretty. Dacian said he would be there a lot too, so she knew where to find him if she had any questions. Looking down at her new son, she figured she would have a lot of them. Luckily, Gavin was too busy looking around at all the colors and new things around him to try and cause anymore chaos.
When they reached the building, Dacian handed her a set of keys.
"Oh, knowing me I'll have to make a few copies. I lose everything."
Gavin's attention turned to the keys. Wow, those were shiny. Shiny things were pretty, and he liked pretty things. Were pretty things edible? He was kind of hungry. As Remi took the keys, Gavin reached out and grabbed them tightly. Startled, she wasn't sure what to do as Gavin stuck them in his mouth and tried to bite them.
"Er, no Gavin, keys aren't food," she said tiredly, gently taking them from him. The last thing she needed to do was pull out his teeth before they'd even gotten to the room. She looked back at Dacian, "I think he's hungry. After we take a look at the rooms, could you tell me where I could find some food around here?"

With an embaressed laugh and rubbing the back of his head, Dacian explained, "Well...we'll have dining facilities soon. But when there were so little of us, we didn't have anyone around to actually make food for a group - and no reason. The central building is going to become a school of sorts at some point in the future, and there will be dining facilities there..."
"But until then, we'll have to make do with our kitchens. We can stop by my flat and get you two some food though, if you want. Or there are some food places a little ways down the road."
While he spoke, he had shut the locker and began to make his way up the stairs - going up and up until they reached the fourth floor.
"Here we are - this is the where those keys I gave you belong. You have a little mail box there, so if you need to send mail to anyone on the compound, just find their mail. Oh, and mail can be delivered to the compound - I'll sort it and figure out who it goes to."

It sounded like by the time this place was finished it'd have everything. School, food, home...she'd never have to leave the compound. And from what it sounded like, it'd all be free. Remi could work with that very nicely.
"Oh, I wouldn't to impose on your home just for the sake of food."
To tell the truth, she didn't want Gavin destroying the mage's flat. The boy was already getting restless in her arms, and was wiggling around quite a bit. She kept a tight grip as she followed Dacian up the stairs, all the way up to the fourth floor. She took the keys he handed her.
"So if I wanted to mail you questions would I send them to the gardens? Or where?"

"Oh-" Dacian gave a laugh, seeming a bit amused before explaining further, "I'm there a lot, but I don't live there. My rooms are the ground floor on this building...so if you need to send me something, just drop it in the mailbox on your way out."
He stood back from the door then, waiting for Remiyah to unlock it.
"And it's just fine, I have plenty of food in there. I cook a lot - which I suppose contrasts Hadrian, because he never cooks..."
Or eats, it seemed like. He was just a mean, lean, working machine. Or something like that, anyway - he just remembered hearing that phrase 'lean, mean fighting machine' somewhere, and it slid into his thoughts before he could chase it away.

"Are you sure? I guess a homecooked meal would be nice," Remi smiled. In fact, she hadn't had anything but takeout for the past two weeks. It was cheaper, but Chinese fast food gets a bit boring after you've already had everything on the menu at least twice.
She noticed that he backed away from the door, indicating that it needed to be unlocked. Shifting Gavin to one arm, much to his displeasure, she fumbled with the key before finally getting it into the lock.
"You keep mentioning this Hadrian. He's another mage, right? Will I be able to meet the other mages too?"
The door swung open. This place was huge! At the prospect of uncharted territory, Gavin finally leaped out of her grasp and started exploring. For a toddler, he sure could crawl fast.
"Gavin, no--oh fine. We'll be living here anyways. Wow, this place is amazing! I don't even know if I have enough stuff to fill it with."
Of course there were things like a couch in the living room, which Gavin discovered and was currently bouncing on. Heck, it was nicer than her frazzled couch at home.

"Oh, yes. Ahneta is the one who gets funding for us, and she should be coming back soon - and then Hadrian is always at the labs. If Gavin ever starts acting like he's sick, go looking for him...he's pretty much the closest thing we have to a doctor here."
At the comment about always at the lab, it became apparent that Dacian was unaware of the newer developments in the other residential building; Hadrian wasn't going to be spending as much time in the lab as he used to...
With a chuckle at Gavin, he turned his gaze back to Remiyah, "Don't worry, we probably have some spare furniture somewhere if you want some. One of the other guardians decided to call in an interior decorator, so we have all the furniture that had been in there."

"Well that's good that there's a doctor," Remi said, getting a strange feeling that Gavin would be swallowing stuff he shouldn't in the near future. She'd have to put child safety locks all over this place. That would be helpful. Dacian's comment on the extra furniture was helpful as well.
"Well, let me see what furniture I can fill it up with first. If I just can't stand the empty space I'll see what's available."
Gavin was still on the mental note about swallowing things. His tummy was hurting, and he wasn't sure why. He felt the need to stick something in his mouth and swallow it. That would surely make his tummy feel better. He needed something to put in his tummy first. He looked back towards Mommee. She surely would have something. So he signaled subtly to her. And by subtly, he screamed.
"Oh dear," Remi dropped thoughts of new furniture and ran over to her new son, who was pointing to his stomach while shrieking. She tried to talk over the yells, "Any chance we could get that food?"

Dacian winced as Gavin screamed, and once more wondered something. What had possessed them to fill two building with screaming toddlers?
Well, at least they weren't babies.
After a moment, he directed a wry grin at Remi and gestured for her to follow him. The mage left the flat then, going down the stairs until he reached his own, ground floor flat - and upon entry, made straight for the kitchen.
He would get something real for them to eat, but for now...well, graham crackers should do just fine. Tossing them over to Remi, he called over Gavin's shouts,
"Try giving him that for a snack, while I get something ready."
