Ok any help would be gladly taken, how do you say (both spell and pronounciate);

“I love ____”

“I cant speak finnish very well”

“Apocalyptica is the coolest band ever”

... Also I would interested to see what my username is in finnish (nockz is a made up word but cellist is a cello player incase you didnt know)

Thank you very much (go raibh míle maith agat)

Hello, I'm new to this guild. First, I just wanted to say, WOW. This place blows my mind at all the fluent Finnish.

I wanted to have something translated for me, but I'm kind of embarrassed since it's a swear phrase. It's the only thing I [possibly] know in Finnish but I want to make sure I'm pronouncing it correctly. I wouldn't want to disgrace my Great Grandma. See, my mother heard her say it when she was little and then she told my sister and myself. So during the years, we could have slowly been changing it.

Okay, so the phrase I'm asking about is, "son of a b***h." >.>;;; Oh, and does Rantanaan sound like a Swedish//Finnish last name? Just curious.

Thank you!

Well... I'd translate "Son of a b***h" like... 'Huoran penikka' or 'Äpärä'

First one is direct translation and second actually means Child who have born outside marriage (which makes his/hers mother a b***h.)

Rantanaan doesen't, could it be Rantanen or Ranta
Ranta means a shore or a beach, and Rantanen is small shore or Beach

Wow, that's nothing like how I've been saying it. xD I was told it was something like, "sultina bellica." Spelling I'm just guessing based how we prounced it. I guess over the years of it being passed down, things were changed.

Rantanaan, again, is just how my mom is guessing it's spelled. It's supposedly the last name of my mother's side of the family who were Sweds//Finns. The story behind that name is quite interesting. We never found out if the story was true of false though.

Well... i'd use Minä instead of Mä because it's colloquial in southern finland... not elsewhere....

Apocalyptica on paras bändi ikinä... ikinä=ever (but ever can also be koskaan)

well... Id use Nockz, tumma sellisti

How to I pronounce the Y and L? I was wondering about the ruotsalainen oo but I figured out that letter is only used in Swedish.

How would I saw, I want to speak Finnish in Finnish?

I know it probably is not Minun haluta puhua suomen. (I have got to study the grammar.)

Well... I'm terrible at trying to explain how to pronounce something in finnish, but you could say that atleast Y is pronounced pretty much like "you" but sort of like you'd start from the middle. (terrible explanation, but if you get what I mean, that's great. sweatdrop )

And for the translations... "I want to speak finnish"

It's translated: "Minä haluan puhua suomea" or "Minä tahdon puhua suomea"

I can't explain to you all that fancy grammar stuff about why it translates like that, but there are many helpful topics around here that might do the trick. 3nodding

lol i'd say it means child whose mom is whore, nowadays people don't really marry anyways. calling someone son of a b***h cos his/her mom wasn't/isn't married.. well you'll get beaten for that probably, btw by that you also call this mom a b***h.. not very wise imo.
