... how the hell is "Don't have sex or you will go to hell!!!!" sex education, again?

sex ed at my school pretty much implies that if you have sex, bad things will happen to you. A lot of it is just society today. STD's are way up... but its true that a lot more teens and young adults are abstaining till marriage.
I was glad to hear my health teacher make it ever so clear that HIV/AIDS is not a "Gay" disease... I got a pretty pleasant experience in sex ed... besides the constant "don't have sex or you'll die" type thing.

to the post below... about teaching about safe gay sex... i think that schools should go into that, make it clear to parents and students about the criteria, and allow kids to be waived if their parents or themselves aren't comfortable with it. theres a difference between beliefs and intolerance. if students can quietly waive out of that portion, thats Ok, but alternative lifestyles are becoming the norm and it wouldbe a good idea in my opinion to go into those areas in school.

And its B.S. if private schools (or public... especially public... nvmd,) are saying that about touching other people. its possible... vaguely possible that if their is sexual contact without intercourse that pregnancy can be possible under certain circumstances, but not simply touching someone else.
we need to give the alert then if there is any crap going around in health classes... its illegal for teachers to teach only one side... or their personal opinion, in classes, unless they allow open discussion and other alternate ideas. and still they shouldn't be implying superiority to their own beliefs.

Actually, at my school, the teachers are fairly open to it and willing to teach a more accepting view of homosexuality and homosexual relationships. The problem is that I live in a highly conservative suburban area (which is funny because my high school is 75% Asian and like holyshit liberal) and there's an ultracon-type group of "concerned elders" who have pressured our school into forbidding such teachings.

After speaking to one of the Health teachers, I learned that the statement completely bars them from doing anything further than mentioning it and possibly stating something along the lines of "two people of the same sex." We actually wanted to set the GSA to fight that ban, but since so many members this year were seniors and we found out about it so late, we may not be able to.

Hopefully it'll turn out for the better. We're keeping in contact with the underclassman officers for next year, so we may be able to help them a little if they do take it on.

I actually told my sex ed teacher that I was not Christian, and found the class very hurtful and wrong. I cried when she put those who've remained "pure" (what bullshit) until marrige on a moral pedestal. I cried and wailed.

And what'd she do?

Kept right on preaching.

Well first, as the site loads, on the subject of abortion issues. I don't think doctors should be forced to tell patients that abortion definately may cause problems, later on, if they have not found such results- however, they should inform the patient that some doctors have found these results, and do believe abortion could contribute to some problems- therefore they are informed, and know the possibilities, to make a decision.

About the site:
eek mad That question must be changed. exclaim It annoys me greatly to know this pampflet was given out to the school, or even a group of students! It is teaching them wrong, and is discriminating. They should apologize to everyone who received this pamplet, and correct it. Though wrong it is, it isn't surprising... rolleyes stare

My english teacher was like that... i had a discussion about buddhism and my brothers choice of religion... she said that its stupid to worship a statue of a fat man.
1. buddah isn't worshipped...
2. in some countries buddah isn't "fat"

my sensei is super christian and constantly talks to me about religion... i've never read the bible so i'm usually clueless about names and such but i understand the meaning... finally he said "if ever you choose to seek"... instead of telling me off for not being religious... for once.

A lot of people are confused about buddism. But that's only because they only know what they see on television which is usually an asian guy bowing to a statue. They don't quite understand the differance between respect and worship and just assume that the asian guy must be worshiping a fat man. Also, they find it hard to grasp how one's 'religion' is actually a philosiphy.
I had to stop going to my church 'cause of that (well, few other reasons as well...)

|Love me|

In 7th grade, my science teacher said outright that she was forbidden to talk about homosexuality as a part of sex ed. Apparently the school board thought it was "inappropriate." Two words, buddy: Public school.

My school's health class never even talked about sex- we just talked about STDs so that you could identify them if you got them or found the tell tale signs on a partner.

It's only one semester and the teacher just makes it a pug course that everybody can pass. I didn't mind.

Sex Ed at my school is broken down into two different categories: Relationships & Sex. The relationships part covers everything from sexual orientation to how to deal with a minor quarel. The part on orientation is rather small, well, more like a paragraph, and the teachers are either really uncomfortable or they get cut off my outcries of disgust by the students. It made me SOOO uncomfortable, I felt like everyone knew, but they don't...but still. Anywho, the sex part is about male-female sex, protection, STIs/AIDS, pregnancy, and informaton/help lines/etc. Differing sexual orientations are almost completely ignored.

I really think that same-sex sex ed should be taught, both to help spread acceptance, and to help gay people who don't know as much about safe sex etc. learn more
