foxfirekyo I think cartoon network did ok with the voices, allmost all the characters sound like their suppose to with the exeption of some. They took out the blood becuase well children arn't suppose to see blood and cartoon network is a childrens' channel sweatdrop sweatdrop and by the way Naruto said Belive it before Cartoon network dubbed it. no, out of all 188 episodes i've seen of the japanese subbed, he'd never said it 3nodding

[kibouXgekido] Plantress I've been watching Naruto on Cartoon Network but....some of the voices really suck. Especially Naruto's and Rock Lee's. Nartuo says "Belive it!" all the freakin' time and Rock Lee's sounds way to serious for his character. Others are bad too, but I hate those the most. stare ...I wouldn't bash the dub quite yet- if you listened closely to Naruto's Japanese voice, and then to his English voice, they sound almost exactly alike. And also, the whole "Believe it!" thing- it's the same thing in the Subs; they people who subbed it just worded it differently so English subbies wouldn't get sick of it. Sure, they have some bad voices, but they have good voices, too. 3nodding For example- Kakashi's English voice is more suited to his character than his Japanese voice. But, you got me on Lee's voice; it's a bit serious for his character. xp acually rock lee's voice in the english is funny blaugh

The lady that does Naruto's voice's name is Maile Flannegan and my name's Maile too! It's a disgrace to my name! crying crying crying And have you heard Orochimaru and Itachi's voice? They're... Uhh... I don't want to offend anyone so I won't say it. Anyways: I say screw the anime. The filler arc's gonna last F-O-R-E-V-E-R so I'll just stick with the manga for now... After the Kakashi Gaiden ROCKS!!!

foxfirekyo Quote: i do and its not that bad but we need a channel for uncut anime not Cartoon Network Agreed, everybody bashes dubs just becuase there just that dubs. But I agree that we do need a channel ^_^ The Anime Network. You see always see adds for it in the back of manga books... It's in the back of the Chobits series anyway. My parents won't let me get it though... Costs too much. Go to theanimenetwork.com they have EVERYTHING.

The Naruto dub sucks like hell. The sub version is WAY much better. The voices re horrible and don't match the characters personality. Lee's voice is gay and so is Neji's, Gaara's voice sounds like he has a soar throat, Kiba's voice sounds annoying, Hinata's voice is too lows, Sakura's voice sounds more immature and Naruto's voice has no expression. Some are good though like Temari's, Kin's and Sasuke's. But only those.
UGH! I hated Itachi's voice!!!!! It sounded like one of those sicko villains from old american western movies (no offense). And Orochimaru's voice sounds SO gay!! Such a harassment to them... gonk
Naruto is by far one of the worst dubs I've ever seen.

I don't notice a difference in the english version from the japanese version.
The Japanese version with subtitles is only stupid because 50% of the translation is incorrect. How are you soposed to follow a show with false wording?
English version however has EXACT translation EXACT everything. Just the voices are different then what you are used to with the japanese version.
People who like the Japanese version and not the english version lose my respect because there is no damn point on hating one version of naruto and liking the other.. It's either you like naruto.. Or you don't.

The incorrect translation pisses me off but I still enjoy the show. Thing with the dub is that I just hate the voices. I can't watch an anime with crappy voices. The translation is ok. Not doubt...but I just don't like it. The voice is my problem. There are just some animes that aren't meant to be dubbed.

First off let me say I perfer teh Japanese to the English, by far. However the Dub is NOT as horriffic as you are making it out to be.
Also when laying blame for bad dubbing make sure you blame the right people since the *idiots* at Cartoon Network are NOT the ones responsible for any bit of dubbin in ANY of their anime. The problem with the Naruto dub lies with the Licensing company and the Dubbing Studio, which is Viz entertainment and Studiopolis, respectively.
And since I've done ALOT of research into the translating and Dubbing of anime I'll share some of what I've learned with you so you can understand why certaing things are the way they are.
Translation and dubbing is a hard and iffy part of converting an anime from Japanese to English for several reasons..
1) word flaps. The amount of sylables has to line up to teh amount of flaps the character has in the animation. Also the Voice actor has to line up what they say to the flaps so it comes off as believable.
2) Character personality. This is mostly for Naruto's "Believe it". While yes it is a BAD translation, and anoying, it makes sense that he has some random three sylable something to fill in the mouth flaps. However they can't pass it off using larger words, like they can with the other characters who have random phrases at the ends of their sentences. Naruto is a bit less intelligent than those other characters. However that only covers the translator's butts for when we actually see Naruto's mouth moving. Not when he's narrating or off screen. Come on they left out half of Chichiri's "Noda" (which was badly translated to "you know") in Fushigi Yugi, why not leave off half of Naruto's "Believe it".
3) Social Acceptance. Some of what is widly accepted in Japan is NOT accepted here in America and those *idiots* at the FCC would be on Cartoon Network's *rear end* if ANYTHING even slightly unacceptible were put in Naruto. Thats why the initial Sasuke/Naruto Kiss Accident and the gratuitous blood (such as the nose bleeds) were taken out. Its not acceptible here in teh States. Same for the Swearing. For the timeslots that Naruto is in they CAN'T have anything above a TV-PG raiting. Which makes me wonder why in the world did they put Naruto in Toonami when it would do much MUCH better in the [Adult Swim] timeslot. However most of these edits were done by request of Cartoon Network, and STudiopolis and Viz have both said they will be releasing the "unedited" versions of the episodes on DVD as well as the ones that are aired on Television.
4) Studio. Different studios have different ways of dealing with the dubbing process. And I was shocked when I heard Viz got the license but had sent Naruto to Studiopolis in LA and NOT to Ocean Studios in Vancover. So I was pleasantly surprised when I did NOT hear Jillian Michaels in the role of Naruto (meaning he'd sound like SHippo in Inu Yasha) However it was probably a bad move on Studiopolis' part to use a relitavely new cast (most of the "main" character VAs have not done Anime voice Acting before) for such a difficult show. And while I applaud their trying, they still haven't gotten the feel of their characters yet. Which is a down side to Studiopolis' credit. It would have been better if they had used the more experienced VAs to do this show, such as Johnny Yong Bosh, Crispin Freeman, Wendee Lee, etc, as the main characters and not so much as the "supporting cast". If you listen to some of the secondary characters and background characters, such as Iruka sesnei or Konahomaru's sensei (forgot his name) they actually say 95% of the names and Japanese words right, including the main character's. Also Studiopolis has a bad habbit of trying to cast people who can sound similar to the Japanese cast in shows like this. And thus performance is lost to people trying to sound like Japanese voices. Which is why the shows that they dub using this mindset usually end up with bad dubbing reviews. (Don't believe me watch Fushigi Yugi or Saiyuki Reload and compare teh performances there to Bebop and Trigun when tehy DIDN'T try to sound like the Japanes.) But this is also partly teh ADR Director and Casting Director's fault.
All in all... I don't really blame Cartoon Network or the voice actors since tehy are just doing what they're told. However I am sticking to the Japanese version of Naruto... and Hinata's voice makes me want to cry and kill small creatures.

Dubbed versions of anything usually are not as good as the orignal. I heard about 1 minute of Naruto with dubs...and it burned.
Cartoon Network pretty much died. It used to be way more awesome, with Toonami and such.

It used to be way more awesome, with Toonami and such. At the same time there are some really GOOD dubed anime out there that rival the Japanese version... such as Trigun and the ADV cast of Saiyuki... the cast matches teh characters very well, and the translations are excelent.
