I don't know of the Brittish Boa, I just know of the Korean one that sings in Korean, Japanese, and English. (She actually did a song with a rapper here in US o.0 tiz creepy). When you say Duvet, do you mean the Lain opening? I thought that was the Korean(yet more famous in Japan) Boa?

Nope. Boa and BoA are two completly different animals. Check out Koko's post above me.

Kokoryta
Boa= British group that did the opening to Lain
BoA= Korean group

I'm half amused that you say you like metal and have only highlighted the mainstream metal that I posted, compleatly disregarding the better metal bands I listed (In Flames, Nightwish, Opeth, ...and Oceans)
I only get mainstream, the rest i learn about from word of mouth, if no one talks about music, then I never learn. Just like with Finch, thrice, thursday and Black Rebel motorcycle Club. I'd have never even begun to listen to any of them if i didn't ask to get some random punk when i was at Musicworld a few months back. I need to go out and do that again, but i need more money for cd's....

Queen

I'm very disappointed in myself, that I should forget Queen. Forgetting about Freddie Mercury is a big deduction for my 80's credibility. Ironic thing was it took Koko, and just pressing the play button on my stereo. How I do love "Killer Queen"! whee

Like Montigo said, it is really difficult to find bands before they become mainstream. You really need to pay attention, or know the right people to hear about things. Maybe it's just me and my lack of Much or MTV. One of the reasons I like older songs is because they're all in my brain somewhere, whether I've heard of them before or know of them. Then when I remember a song or artist in particular I can easily look them up. That, and I can only seem to see originality in hindsight.

Note: I'm currently on a Björk kick. Don't mind me. xp

I like Pink, and Gorrillaz. And old songs and stuff. I listen to Japanese anime music a lot. But I mostly keep the Pink cd in my cd player all the time.

Alright, to narrow my list dont Ill tell you what I dont like. ^^

Rap
Christian
Hip Hop (most)
Pop (most)

Uhm..other than that just throw me bands and if I havent heard them, send me a burned copy of one of their cds. ^^ If I like 'em, Ill start buying their cds.

Now, on the hip hop and pop genres..I dont like the lyric/music mix. The music alone is great or the lyrics are great..but I dont like them together.

Plus, I dont enjoy scantily clad dancing girls. Yeah, Im weird like that but I also like to respect the people's music I listen to as artists and not just as what I get off on. stare sweatdrop

Mainstream urban music has gotten fairly repetitive, I must agree. It's almost becoming like glam-rock where it's just getting tired and overdone. That, and I stare at the scantily clad girls and just think to myself, "What the hell are you trying to do?" stare

Genres are really pointless when our tastes aren't cut and dried, or obey very strict rules. We like what we like, there is no other explanation.

For those of you that hate rap, download/buy/borrow one of K-os's albums, it's not crappy mainstream rap- it's rap the way it should be, smart, clean, thought-provoking.

In the end, I revert to music associated with childhood memories. Meaning musicals and 80's, like Supertramp, West Side Story, and Miss Saigon.
