]My teacher usually does them for us when she checks that they fit right. All she does is grab the shoe near the heel and wack the shank hard on the edge of the desk until it breaks...

Wow... are you serious? Like I said (or did I?) this is my first pair of pointe shoes, so you have to break the shank?
It depends, if you don't have very strong feet then it helps you when getting en pointe... Check with your teacher first though, some teachers may not like this... Sure you have to soften them, but my teacher actually broke them... you could hear the snap... sweatdrop

I'm so glad I'm not the shoe... mine are Bloch serenade. I keep trying to soften them, it's harder than I thought it would be. The shank is like metal, I can't 'roll through' the foot (as our instructor puts it)

Ah, Bloch... That's an Aussie make isn't it? (I'm aussie and I work in a ballet store and we sell them whee ). Mine are Gaynor Mindens (American).

You are most likely having trouble because the shank is too hard... you're going to have to soften them. Talk to your teacher, some teachers prefer that you do it differently...

Ballet is most definately the hardest form of dance. You have to have the right body, and lots of coordination. Luckily, my whole famliy has done ballet, and I Love it!!!

Does anyone have a preference between chiccetee (cant spell) or RAD?

Do you mean Cecchetti, the ballet style? If so, that's what I study, so I'm kinda partial to it. I'm not quite sure what RAD is.

It begs the question: who has studied more than one method of ballet?

I've never studied Cecchetti, but I started with Russian and moved on to RAD (Royal Academy) as a teenager. At first I liked Russian better, but I was little so I'm not sure if I would have continued to prefer it as I advanced. *shrug*

Yeah I did Russian at first, then I started Cecchetti. I don't really like Cecchetti, cause it's too...I don't know. But I don't like taking exams every year, even though I do well. I take a lot of private lessons too.
