Scarlette smiled warmly at teh girl, pulling out a flower from her pocket and handing it to her. "Here you are sweetie." She said in the same warm tone. Her crimson eyes peering at the small child.

The watchman, turning his gaze from the child upward to the slender woman that had seeming appeared from nowehere. He was about to quickly get up and draw his weapons, but he noticed the woman's dress, quickly realising she was the one of the Flame. People of the Flame were generally left alone by anyone connected to the town of Isyl. They almost had more authority than the policing bodies within the city.
The pointy-eared boy in the woman's arms was still attempting to eat the apple to no avail, the food still taunting him.

Rachael was utterly oblivious to everything going on before her, staring up at the great imposing stone wall. It was the biggest thing she had ever seen in her life.
She was filled with a stomach-churning mixture of exhiliration and fear as she stoof there, numb.
Slowly her bag slid off her shoulders and slumphed into the snow, thankfully remaining closed. She did not seem to notice, still standing staring upward in shock and awe.

The outer wall of the great city stretched on and around the city, over two miles long. It was roughly twenty foot tall, although in some places where the land changed it got higher. At first there appeared to be no movement along the large parapets of the winding wall, but if studied carefully the odd cloaked figure trudged along.

"The walls..." she mouthed silently, still staring wide-eyed up at their great grey expanse. "The walls of Isyl-Belyrith..."
"It won't be some cushy, easy life," he grimaced, settling back on the bale of hay, "but it'll be a life."
Da Vaille pulled out a pipe, a pouch of tobacco, and his flint-and-steel and carefully laid them on his leather apron, in his lap. He filled the pipe silently, and carefully struck a light, ensuring that no sparks went near the hay. "They say," he sighed, placing the pipe between his teeth, "they say it doesn't matter who you are on the walls these days, so long as you can hold a sword or draw a bow. These are dark and troubled times, and the fair city needs all she can get.
"They say it doesn't matter who you are...
"... It's who you make yourself," she whispered under her breath.

Scarlette peered down at the boy in her arms. Blinking slightly as he struggled with the apple. She gave a gentle sigh, smiling warmly and taking the small girl's offer. "Borrowing..." Her soft tone informed the boy as she took a hold of the apple and exchanged it for the bread, soon replacing the bread with the apple.

"What was that?" the watchmen was giving Racheal a rather odd look before he gave a small grunt and turned his attention back to the One of the Flame, the one that held the small pointy-eared-boy. "So. What ye doin' with a lil' hunter-elf-what-do-ye-call-it. If one o' those hunter's find ye with 'im he'll 'ave 'ell tah pay, ye know."
It was then the watchman's eyes seemed to focus on something different, something behind the tall and once cloaked woman. His eyes widened with what could have been fear and he abruptly disappeared to his ladder, scrabbling up the rather flimsy wood. There he paused, halfway up the weak rungs of the ladder that had been bound together with rope, the rope now fraying. Behind them a large and dark bulk was moving towards them across the snow. It appeared to be travelling at speed, tramendous[sp?] speed. No wonder the watchman seemed to be worried about it. He squinted, but found he could see nothing more than a large and moving bulk.
"Get inside the walls..." he called, "Move! Get to safety!" There was an urgency behind his voice that told them not to stay around for a cup of tea, "And take the child with you. Move! Now!" The watchman then clambered the rest of the way up the ladder and took his horn from his belt, blowing into it to alert the guards at the walls. It was a sad tone, the horn giving out a minor key that seemed to bring alertness to all that heard it. It certainly woke the small boy with pointed ears up a bit, alerting him to his surroundings.

The woman all but jumped at the gatekeeper's calls. Taking a brief glance behind her before beginning to walk to the gate. She knew of the other child she just figured that the woman they were with would have enough sense to pick up the small girl. So she hoped. If not then she could make an exceptional and quick timing run to the girl.
Scarlette had ran at a fairly high rate to get inside the walls. She wished more for the boy's safety then her own. She was always able to defend herself. Never losing a battle yet. But the boy was very defenseless and not at his full strength. So, with those thoughts in mind, she soon managed to slip inside the walls .

Rachael was immediately snapped out of her reverie by the watchman's sudden movement.
"Get inside the walls!" he cried out, halfway up the ladder. "Move! Get to safety!"
Rachael did not need any futher prompting. She swept her pak up and over her shoulder with a spray of snow, and made for the ladder. Then she stopped, as she passed the little girl.
"Can you climb?" she asked, crouching down to the girl's level.

“We don’t need to climb. You’ll make it to the gate in time.” The self assured tone in the child’s voice was hardly one of a babe, the grip in which she held the other woman’s hand even less so. She tugged, directing the pair’s stumbling run to the gates. A small crack was the only evidence that the heavy doors were open at all, and even that minor gap was swiftly closing, threatening to close the pair outside the safety of the walls.
They reached it just in time to slip inside, as eager hands reached for the weary traveler. The child smiled sadly and released the other’s hand as her companion was tugged into the arms of the villagers desperate to close the heavy gates against the invading enemy. It soon became apparent that she had no intention of crossing the threshold herself, even as the remaining villagers formed a protective barrier against the doorway as it swung shut.
“We don’t want you contaminating our village, demon spawn.” One spat as the girl took a few steps back from the doorway. “Don’t worry…” The child breathed reassuringly to her new acquaintances as the gate swung entirely shut. “I’ll be fine.”
((I’m not sure if that was too much of an NPC post… But I didn’t manage other people’s characters, so I didn’t go so far as to god-mod… If it’s too much of a strain on the rules in general, I’ll delete and rewrite the post. I just wasn’t entirely sure how to get the point across without a little interference.))

The lonesome and now rather mournful call from the watchman's horn sounded again - to call for foot soldiers to counter-attack. There appeared to be siege weapons bringing up the rear of the large army. It sounded for another time, a last time, until it was cut off short abruptly. A line of what were seemingly scouts riding on lizard beasts rained their arrows down on the watchtower.
The watchman fell against the flimsy wall of the tower, two arrows embedded in his torso. His leg slipped over the edge of the platform, the side which held the ladder, and the ground loomed at him from below. It was then a large grapple-like arrow punched right through his shoulder, a sturdy looking rope attatched to it. It was loose at first, but then suddenly became taught and yanked him straight from the top of the tower into the air, the end of the rope tied to the saddle of one of the lizard-creatures.
The poor man didn't stand a chance. And the few that could see through the closing gap of the gates appeared to be horrified by the show of brutality, the lizard-mounted scout racing towards the closing gates with the limp body of the watchman dragging behind. An arrow fired from the charging scout, but the arrow struck wood as the gates saved the lucky person before they got killed by a rather nasty looking arrow.
{It's alright.}

((*Laughs* I should probably just give up now, shouldn't I...?))
The little girl led a dazed and confused Rachael up to the gates, where she was hauled inside by the frightened townsfolk. She turned to look back for the girl, who had released her hand, and saw her still just outside.
"We don't want you contaminating our village, demon spawn!" one gutsy individual spat at the child.
Rachael's brow knotted in confusion. "What? Wait? No!" She tried to break for the gate, but the townspeople barred her way. Struggling against their arms, she shrieked, "Let her in! Why won't you let the child in?!"
"I'll be fine," the girl almost smiled as the gates ground closer together, the gap narrowing with irrevocable certainty.
Outside, the vanguard of lizard-mounted scouts swept down like descending doom toward the great walls, but all Rachael, hanging limp in the grasp of two men saw was the resolute face of the child as the gates finally sealed their barrier.
"I'll be fine."
"Demonspawn?" Rachael mouthed slowly, her brow deeply furrowed. "How..."
