"Thank you again for bringing it..." Kyo told the tall, dark-haired man as he ducked through the apartment's doorway. Deshwitat paused for a moment, turning his stoic features on the pale woman. The briefest of nods were given before he continued on, shifting the weight of the folded crib on his shoulders.
"What're you talking about?" Redd asked with a wink as she sauntered in behind him, shutting the door behind her. "It's your crib. He'll go get the table when he's done with that."
"Where do you want this?" Came the coarse voice of the male from the living room.
"Ah... It's the only room through the doorway one the upper left of the room.. Just set it in the corner across from the bed, please.."
"You don't gotta be so polite. He's working for me."
"You... don't suppose he needs any help?" Kyo implored, "And no, I don't have to, but... It's nice to show gratitude. It-"
"I know, I know." The coyote demon waved slightly. "And if he'd needed any help, I'd have brought his brother along. I figured I'd do you a favor and save you from their squabbling, though. But nah, all Desh is gonna need is a cigarette when he's done and a neck to suck on later."
"I see. So he's a-"
"Vampire, yeah." Redd grinned towards her. "Both him and his brother. They're hangin' out at my place until they get enough money to get back on their feet. Of course, the other one ain't helping out much. I'll save you the big story."
"...You take in some questionable people."
Redd laughed at that, patting Kyo on the shoulder before continuing to walk forward. As if she owned the place. "I could say the same thing for you! So, tell me about the b*****d you're going to raise with all this! All of your kids are ready for another sibling?"
"Hey, Redd-san!" Came a bright call from the side. A short, tanned teen with neon-colored hair gave the woman a wave as she entered. He was leaning into Kyo's room before, and now turned back to it. "Das ist dein Kommandant? Was heisst du? Sprecht mit mich. Ich weiss du Deutsch sprechen!"
"Hey Kaze, why don't you go help Deshwitat with the changing table?"
"Is that his name?" Kaze grinned. "Does he speak at all?"
"Oh, he does. He knows a couple languages, I think." Redd smirked, ignoring the slightly dirty look she received from Deshwitat as he stepped from the room.
"I set it up as best I could. You'll be responsible for setting it up..." He sighed and slid a cigarette from his pocket, glancing to Kaze as he walked towards the door of the apartment. "Kommt mit mich und hilfen..."
The teenager all but squealed, nodding as he made quickly to follow. "Ja!"
"Hmph. He hasn't changed much." The demon grinned wryly as the door closed behind them both. "Now, about that kid? Come on, I'll help you fix everything up." She led them both to Kyo's room. "Where's the blankets? Here's the matress, at least."
"His name is Xerksis, and he's right over there, on the bed... You don't think your friend... disturbed him, do you?" She herself wandered over to a cabinet of drawers while Redd set up the matress, pulling out a series of purple sheets.
"Who? Desh? Nah. He wouldn't." The brown-haired woman in formed her, taking a curious glance back at the said wand. "Woah. That's supposed to be a kid?"
"He used to be a Mindflayer... It looks a bit like a squid on a... humanoid body." She tried to ignore the derisive grin the other woman gave. Redd could be so immature, and she was ready for it, but it still irked a very tiny part of her mind.
"You know he's probably going to turn out to be one ugly little brat, right?" Redd took the sheets from her and quickly set about making the bed, obviously used to it. "But that wouldn't bother you. You'll take him in anyways."
"...Yes." Whatever she was ageeing to, it wasn't determinable. Maybe all of it. When Deshwitat and Kaze entered with the changing table, she merely pointed to a corner near a window in which they could set it.
"There! All done." Redd announced, nodding to herself and grinning as she was handed a pair of plush toys. She set these within the crib as well, near a corner. "Well, I'll get out of your hair now. Good luck with your new brat. You just send him over to me if you need me to smack him around a little! Or if you just can't stand him any longer. I know you teach, so you can't be taking all of these kids!" A bout of laughter came as she received a few questioning looks. Apparently she was in good spirits.
"C'mon, Desh, let's head out."
"Thank you again for-"
"Hey. Shut up." A teasing wink. "Grow some backbone. Don't think I won't be needing it back as soon as your whelp is big enough, or dumping a few of my kids on you. Keep in touch!" With a small wave, she exited, soon to be followed by the grumbling vampire.

The Nozomi "S why are we here?" Patricks voice was confused as he was tugged into the teacher-aide store. It was filled with texts and corny posters, little games and flash cards - a teachers dream, really. With a discount! ...if you were a teacher. Yashi wasn't exactly a teacher (nor a student), but he had dragged his father there anyway.
The fox was crouched before a little ant-in-the-box set, yukata tugged tight around his knees and his chin on his legs. His fingertips rested on the floor, entire attention on the ants that could be but were not yet. "Mmm, Tousan?"
"Why are we HERE?"
"Ants." NinetailedNightmare Boring, they said. Her room was too boring.
Hm, yeah. Maybe so the students would look at the teacher and not the rest of the room? The room wasn't making them learn any less- those children were just lazy. Okay, so she had been known to nap in class, too, but that was different. She had a condition. She really didn't see why the school was complaining while test grades were still going strong, but she didn't argue.
The bell over the door jingled merrily as she entered, teacher's garb still on from earlier that day. Of course, the squid-spirit wasn't part of it- she'd had to go by Redd's to pick him up. Whether he was watched by Redd herself or one of the numerous intelligent animals in the house, she didn't know, nor did she care to. Neither did she care about how the sales clerk was adjusting her glasses to aim a death-ray stare of dissaproval towards the thing.
Decorations. Posters would probably do it... a couple of those 'READ' ones with the celebrities posing with the books. She could get three for a dollar.
As she walked along the ailse, adjusting the ghostling in the crook of her arm idly, she felt a brief wave of nostalgia. Where had she seen that black man before? Had she had a vision about him?
Xerksis was aware of the minds that surrounded him and squirmed as well as an almost-shapeless cloud of fog could, head turning this way and that. Unlike Kyo, he was not immeadiately interested in Patrick, though he did have a fully functioning brain that would be fine to leech off of. Instead, Xerk turned his head towards the white-haired child, remembering the colors of the only one who had been able to talk to him besides Kyo thusfar. It wasn't long before he had formed his test-image of a billow of purple smoke to shove towards the crouching kitsune.
Kyo almost muttered a sound of protest, but bit her tongue quickly. This was Xerk's custom of things and it usually ended up with little children crying or grown individuals weak at the knees. The boy just didn't understand that you couldn't just shove images at just anyone and expect them in kind. Really, though, he had learned it didn't always work -hadn't worked- on every bystander they passed. The woman didn't even try and cancel out the message, afraid of what it may do to the child when he wasn't even whole yet. If the kid got a headache, she'd fix it...
But who were they? They seemed familiar. Had she really dreamed them?
Then it hit her, finally. The first pair she had come into contact with at the HQ. Yashi had just grown... Now, what was that other man's name? Why did she have to be so groggy and have such a horrible memory? "Patrick?" The Nozomi Yashima was hit by the sudden wave of thought from that cloud of smoke he had formerly identified as a boy. Nw, it was true he still was, but he had grown as well as Yashi had. Where the fox had grown taller and gotten more hair then he knew what to do with, the little wand thing had become a baby ghost as he had once done. How fun! The picture that burrowed itself into his mind was un-practiced for and it caused the fox child to squeak and fall onto his side weakly. "What.."
His voice was a mumble, grumbly and more then a little irritated as his gold bangs were pushed from the side...and then his eyes widened, little red streaks disappearing under the look of disbelief. "Kuraiwatage~" The child cried out, fingers moving to pet happily at the fluffy piece of Mindflayer. "Hello, again! You're bigger."
Patrick, quite astounded by his now rather grumpy sons turn to a cheerful attitude, blinked a few times, glancing around to see if he could spot the cause of excitement. Sure, there was a wand but was there - "Hey, You with the wand." His memory was horrible, one hand moving up for a brief wave. "Hey." NinetailedNightmare Kyo had to pause and turn her head, taking in her surroundings. Was she in the wrong store? No... Silently thankfull for the man's lack of memory, Kyo nodded her head and made sure to keep her arm still. Not that it'd really hurt Xerk, nor was she really able to actually hold him. Still, if the wand slipped out of her hand, he was going down too.
"What are you two doing here?"
The Mindflayer turned over and seemed to sit up as it was petted, tentacles extending slowly in an attempt to copy the gesture. Bigger? A brief nod from the spirit, who was pleased that its message had been received without crying or groaning. Kyo pursed her lips silently. Wasn't the kid disturbed by him? There were certainly a couple people looking at it as if expecting her to tuck it away under her coat or something. The Nozomi "Yashi wanted to see the ant-sets." Patrick shrugged a little bit, watching hte kid with that little cloud-puff curiously. "He's gonna turn into a baby soon - just warning ya there. Yashi looked almost the same before he popped into a squealer." His head gave a sharp nod, eyes still on the two. "What's your name again? Sorry, with all the brats... I don't remember peoples names outside the family."
Yashi smiled a little as he was petted quietly, fingers still moving to give the boy-smog a happy little pet. "Do you have a name yet? Tousan named me when I was that big." He nodded firmly, fingers moving to tug gently at the ghost-tentacles. "It'll help not to just call you kurai watage." NinetailedNightmare "Ah.." Her eyes drifted to the said sets before she blinked. Popped into a squealer? That description amused her, but she did not allow it to show on her face. "It's Kyo, and it's fine. I often have trouble remembering even my family." And remembering the way home.. there were tons of things she forgot, so she wasn't able to angry. Not that she would be. What's in a name?
"His name is Xerksis," She informed Yashi, managing to make her features work so she could smile. That was the only one he gave a positive feeling on. As his tentacles were tugged, the ghostling wriggled and attempted to latch onto the fingers with its own, stubby hands. "I'm hoping he will grow soon. Is there some... ritual I've got to do?" The Nozomi "Well, you knew mine so I felt kind of bad." He shrugged a little bit, hands tucking into his pockets contemplatively. "So yeah.. Patrick and Yashi - ritual? Not that I knew of. I just got his room set up and POOF! Kid appeared." Another shrug, glancing over towards the two..things. "And if there WAS a ritual, I didn't know about it."
"I felt like he wanted me." Yashi shrugged, mimicing his father and he smiled at Xerksis. "Like I was safe and had a family to be born to. Maybe that's what he needs. To be safe?" NinetailedNightmare Kyo shook her head dismissively, lifting one shoulder. "It's fine..." She nodded to the mention of the room and whatnot. "Well, I'll give him his own room when he's a little older, but I set up a spot for him in my room so I can be close." Her dark blue eyes lowered to the child in her arms.
"I do want him." She said softly, but firmly. Xerksis tilted his head slightly, as if attentive. His tentacles gave Yashi's fingers one last brushing before he seemed to get bored and sink off, back into Kyo's cradling arm.
Safe? Well, she did have one particularly disagreeable son, but there was no way she'd allow him to damage the child. "I would defend him even it came to sacraficing my own safety. That is what mothers do for their children."
And most of their family had met Xerk. Had he not liked them?
She was about to drift into thought when a sudden flare sent spots swimming before her eyes. The salesclerk who had been watching them closely up till now shrieked, running to fetch a fire-hydrant. That crazy woman had brought in a bomb! She'd heard about those crazy terrorists! Why this store? WHY?!
Kyo nearly fainted upon seeing Xerk light up that way. Was he really going to explode? What had she done wrong- And then there was smoke, lots of purple steam smoking up where Xerk had once began. She couldn't feel him anymore! Just about the time she was going to stick her hand in and feel around for anything, a gentle weight settled on her arm... and the sprinkler system came on.
The smoke was thick, but it dispersed when the water came raining down quickly enough. People that hadn't squealed in the store before did now. Kyo, however, ignored the water to bat a hand at the smoke over her arm.
The babe laying her was as naked as any child from the womb could be, although pale-skinned and bald. Well, bald wouldn't really quite cover it, seeing as a group of definite purple bangs were sprouting from his hairline. Other than that, though, his head was bare. The infant's eyes were closed tightly, and his face was a bit scrunched in displeasure from the foreign substance hitting him. Kyo was quick to shrug off her coat from the arm that was free, attempting to cover him.
"Xerk...sis?"
The eyes suddenly snapped open, and Kyo drew in a breath. He was blind... Or at least, he didn't have pupils. And yet the yellow irises darted to the corners of their cages, taking in the room or at least pretending to. The sprinklers cut off abruptly, and the salesclerk was back, glaring.
"Excuse me, ma'am, I'm going to need you to leave if you are going to disturb the other customers." The Nozomi "Hey, ******** off." Patricks voice was short and snappish, leveling a a black and red glare onto the glaring cashier. While it might not have been the most prudent statement to give the cashier, he felt he was justified, given that a child was just birthed in the damn store. "It wasn't her fault. Something just happened. Deal with it. Water doesn't kill, you know."
"Unless you're the Wicked Witch." Yashima piped up, eyes wide as he stared at the new naked thing. It was pale and squirmy... The fox dipped down to pick up the wand. Once the black think was in his grip, yashi stood up on his tiptoes to peer at Xerk, daring to even TOUCH Kyo with his shoulder to get a better look. "Can I hold him? I'll be careful. Tousan showed me how." Grumpy as he may have been initially, when fronted with a boy, Yashi didn't appear to be so very snarky.
"Please?" NinetailedNightmare Kyo was still mouthing air as if trying to say something, much like a fish out of water. The baby in her arms finished the once-over of the room and then stared up at Kyo, cheeks puffing up and eyes narrowing in a cranky sort of expression. He was cold! And couldn't she pick a better place for him to have been born?
The cashier returned the stare before going back to whatever she was before, though her fingers lingered suspiciously close to the phone on the counter. As if she were really going to call the police on two people and their children.
"...Alright, Yashima." Kyo replied, nodding. The boy seemed calm enough, and Xerk had taken a liking to him earlier. However, when she tried to take the baby away from her chest, his stubby fingers shot out and grabbed her shirt. A small grumbling growl wafted from him, obviously protesting her decision at taking him away from her. "It's okay, Xerksis. You like Yashi. Yashi wants to hold you."
The boy protested still, sucking in breath in preperation to scream until he was placed before Yashi. Then he just puffed and reached out expectantly. Someone better hold him... or else. The Nozomi Yashima hesitated as he took the boy in his arms, small appendages wrapping around Xerk firmly. "Hi there." He spoke to the child as he would an adult, staring down at him with those wide fox eyes. Fingertips moved to pet at his cheek, lips twisting into a snicker. "You know, babies aren't SUPPOSED to be bald." Not in his experiance, anyway. The ears of the boy pricked foreward, moving to sit on the ground near the ants, legs crossed and fabric taunt against his lap with the pressure of his knees. "Xerksis. Hi. I'm Yashi. Can you say Yashi?"
Patricks eyebrows arched, head tilting to study the little squid. "...so. he's a squid? Or something with...rubbery looking purple hair?" His nose wrinkles, "He's ugly. But. Okay. Squid-thing and a Japanese girly boy. Can we say - wait. No. They're kids. s**t." NinetailedNightmare Xerk clenched at the fabric of Yashima's yukata with the same, slightly digruntled look. His eyes followed the pat to the cheek quietly, but he made no move to stop it. Yashi. And who? The pupiless eyes moved towards Patrick while his mouth garbled nonsense. Kyo was watching closely, for any signs of irregularity.
"Actually, Yashi, there are a lot of babies born bald. Some have hair, too, but it may all fall out and grow in a different color." She tried to ignore the comment about Xerk being ugly, frowning a little while digging around in the bag she had at her hip. "He's... a Mindflayer. Here."
A book was produced and flipped open to a marked page. Inside, there was a clear, large picture of an Illithid clad in robes and adorned in bone-based jewlery. She held it out for Patrick to see.
Ugly? Xerkis is...? The baby questioned. Bad? The Nozomi Patrick found nothing wrong with the other being ugly - he was sure his own kids were going to be scrunched and hideous themselves, and he didn't much mind. "A mindflayer." The dark man shuddered slightly, peering at the baby once more. "...well, you're a good sight better looking then what you used to be, kiddo. At least there are no bone-things in sight, yeah?"
"Yashi and that is my 'tousan, Patrick." He spokes carefully and slow, watching the baby with fascination. This was the first baby he had HELD... Zah had been HIS size the last time they'd met... this was new and different to the fox. At the question of Xerk being bad and ugly, though, his tousan was shot an irritated look, fingers moving to pet at the tentacle/hair bits, head shaking. "Not bad. Not ugly. Just new." He nodded firmly. "New things are different looking. I like how you look. Purple is my favorite color." NinetailedNightmare The teacher lifted the wand for Patrick to see the tiny skull at the end. "No bones... not in my home." She replied, closing the book easily before putting it back in her bag. She looked down at her child again and bit her lip quietly. At least he no longer looked like squid, and he wasn't all that ugly. Not to her, at least. It wasn't as if he'd always be like this... she hoped.
Tousan. Yours. The baby made soft murmurs to himself, settling into the boy's arms and yawning. New and purple. A hand was lifted before his eyes so he could see. White. His eyes settled on Kyo, whom stood above them. Mine. 'Mother'. Always sleepy, mother.... Where? Where were they? What was this strange place? A small shiver coursed through him from the air, and the child looked shocked at it. He'd never felt temperatures before as a whisp. Now he had... skin. The Nozomi "You'd be surprised what ends up in your house after the kiddlets decide to pop up with their own interests. I have half-dead grasshppers covered in chocolate around mine." His head shook lightly, lips twisting into an amused look. "He'll get some hair eventually, yeah?"
"A store. By ants." Yashima nodded, petting still at the little purple stubblies, lips quirking int a grin. "Outside." Another nod and he leaned back, against the wall, eyeing the naked baby boy. "You need clothes. it'll stop being cold when you get clothes." NinetailedNightmare "Oh, I've seen enough, I think." Kyo smiled, not going to emphasize on what she meant. "Grasshoppers? Wow..." She didn't like insects, but she was getting used to them, seeing as one of her sons brought something wild in every day and one of her grandsons was actually a spider. Eating them, though? She didn't know whether she wanted to be grossed out or amused more. "Hm... He probably will. All the bald children I've seen have."
Xerk seemed content with the answers given, but he still squirmed. Clothes. Mother, clothes now. He trained his eyes in an expectant stare to Kyo, who slowly spared them a glance. "I really should get him home before he gets sick. His immune system should be exceptionally low now..." The brunette leaned over towards, reaching out a hand to run over the crown of Xerk's bare head. The Nozomi "I hope so. Kids can't live on looks alone." He shook his head, moving to take Yashis shoulder, voice light, "Come on, Yashi... stand up. Give Xerk back to his mom... we should get home."
"But.." Yashi faltered, lower lip poking out into a pout before he offered the baby carefully back to Kyo. "I like him. His eyes are interesting." He nodded a little, chewing at the inside of his mouth. "He's purple." NinetailedNightmare "Don't worry, Yashi," Kyo said softly as she took him into her arms and continued to wrap him within her cloat. Thank God for cotton. "You'll get to see him again; I promise. I think he likes you too." She craddled boy to her chest, allowing him to latch onto her shirt. "Now that he's grown, I can take him out more. We'll come visit the big head-quarters on the weekends, maybe. And if I'm not with him, someone else will be." Though it'd most likely be her.
Xerksis huffed up at her quietly before he turned his pupiless gaze on Yashi and Patrick. Bye, Yashi. One hand waved slightly in a gesture he'd seen earlier. Kyo didn't dare to try and buy any of the posters- she'd have Kaze and his spider make some decorations when they got home. With a small wave of her own towards the two, she made her way out, ignoring the dirty look put to her back.

Xerksis has finally made it into the world of flesh and blood. I am thankful and greatly relieved, understandably. He is still vulnerable -quite so- as an infant, but not as much as when he was ethereal. His timing was... rather impeccable, and he managed to squeeze into being in a rather odd place. A teacher's aide store. Patrick and Yashima were there as well and saw the whole thing. If I knew them better, I might have been a little embarrassed about the whole ordeal. After all, Xerksis did set off the sprinkler system the building had installed as a fire precaution.
His skin didn't seem to retain any moisture from the spray. I know that children generally have smooth skin but... this more or less reminds me of an amphibian when wet. At least he looks normal...ish. The boy has no trace of a pupil or any other means of taking in light. I wondered if he was blind at first, but after experimenting by putting various objects in front of his eyes I have concluded that he isn't, and that he does have some form of vision. He can't stand bright light or most light in general. I tried to take him outside for a walk earlier and it was like he suddenly became some sort of mole and tried burrowing into my shirt. Bit me, too, or at least tried to.
Aside from his eyes and his skin, he'd normal. Unless... you count purple hair to be odd. Kaze's natural hair color is neon green, so perhaps I'm no longer easily bewildered by these various hair colors. What I don't understand is that only his bangs came in. Otherwise, his head his bare. I don't believe he likes me to touch them, but so far he seems to tolerate it. In four, organized stalks, those purple -I can't really call them hairs- things poke out from his hair line. They look like normal installments of hair from afar, but upon feeling them thay are slick. Tentacles? There are no means of suction to them, though. He is unique.
I made sure to introduce him to his crib as soon as we got home, but he seems more interested in staying with me. He's tucked under my other arm as I write this and watches. He doesn't like to be far from me, which I suppose is understandable. Many infants are often clingy, mostly from insecurity. Running out of page...

NinetailedNightmare The main room of the GoTP was alive with noise, but certainly not of the good sort. No, the noise was not music being played too loud, nor was a video game at a particularly gruesome part. Not quite. The explosive screech that rippled through the once-quiet haven of the 'wand shop' belonged to a little ball of flesh no larger than a watermelon. A small, square pin was set up in the center of the sitting room, walls made of a soft white mesh material. The source of such a horrid sound was in this.
The bald infant had thrown himself in a dramatic heap atop a black, dog-shaped plush and was heaving with sobs caused only by the exertion caused. A dark-haired young woman sat adjacent from the child in a rather stiff-looking chair, her navy-eyed stare cast down to a stack of notebook paper in her lap. She seemed to take no notice of the squalling child, marking at the papers occasionally with a slim red pen. It was as if one of them wasn't there at all. Behind them, a cartoon played on the screen of the television, ignored by both.
Suddenly, the boy whipped his head up from the plush, pupil-less yellow eyes glaring almost hatefully at the woman. With another scream, he took hold of the thing's long ears and hurled it at the wall of the pen. It bounced harmlessly off the mesh back to the soft floor of the pen. As if realizing what he did, Xerksis crawled quickly on his hands and knees to his dog -Minion- and clutched at it with one arm. Of course, he continued to snarl at the woman, preparing another howl of outrage. Pay attention to me! Get me out of this thing! His stubby fingers curled into the holes of the wall and yanked uselessly. The woman ignored him, going on to another piece of paper while marking in a book on the arm of her chair. The Nozomi Poor, poor Xerk. Yashi had decided to visit the HQ once more - taunting Fate in the face - wearing one of his little yukata's. It was blue and green to his pale skin and hair, the length of his hair down to the middle of his back. The ears twitched a little when the sound of the childs squalling hit his sensitive hearing center.
"What the..." The fox child pushed his way in the door, eyebrows furrowed and lips pulled tight into a frown. "Whoever it is, shut UP!" He certianly hadn't lost any of his anger in the way over - his tousan had LEFT, damnit and...
well, okay. He was just angry.
He saw Xerk then. The squirming little fleshy, tentacled bundle of ******** adorable child. Well, maybe not adorable but he was still...all that other stuff.
It's not nice to hurt others ears, Yashi shot at the baby, moving over to the pen. "But I suppose you're just lonely, yeah? Stuffies aren't much fun." His fingers moved, reaching over as far as he could in order to touch the child. "Hi." ladyumbra Kishi walked inside from the gardens in time to catch the tail end of a wail. As she walked down the hall towards the main lobby she listened to a strange voice have a minor fit before taking pity on whoever was crying. Apparently while she'd been outside chasing away annoying squirrels people had decided today was the day to visit. Kishi wore a large white baseball cap on her head with the letters NY stitched on it in red. The young succubus child didn't have a clue what the letters stood for, she just liked wearing the cap since had originally been her fathers. Her trademark purple overalls and a white t shirt covered the rest of her. All of the clothing and even her wand was covered in dirt from her play. Looking a right mess Kishi approached the others, headed straight towards the playpen and ignored the adult in the room altogeather. " Hey there who are you and why are you all being so loud?" She inquired. She's not met either of these children before and they looked interesting enough. Kiarna Very quickly, another vaguely scream-like sound joined the cranky infant's. And just as quickly after that, a loud reprimand was heard.
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
"Aricia, stop that!"
Kierla continued to try and shush the said Aricia as she entered the headquarters. Currently, Aricia's new fad was to try and mimic any loud noise that reached her ears.
Torture.
"I'm really very sorry," Kierla tried to explain to the rest of the room.
Being a mother really really sucked. A lot. NinetailedNightmare At the sound of the mental speech, Xerk paused in mid-screech. Ah, he felt it now. There were more semi-intelligent minds drawing near him. The tentacle-bearing child turned his head to face Yashi, face drawing to a simple grumpy expression. 'Lonely.' The child repeated to the other, pushing himself to his knees. As soon as the kitsune reached in, the illithid made a snatch at his fingers with his own hand, babbling a nonsense sound aloud that sounded more like a grumble. Touching Yashi seemed to calm him, tiny body slumping against the wall of the pen though still holding tight to those fingers. If he had his way, the boy wasn't going to get them back soon.
As Kishi entered, the baby turned his head curiously. Another mind! Xerk babbled his irritation at her too, rocking. A mental wave was sent towards the girl experimentally, wondering if she could do the same as Yashi and talk to him without using her mouth. If she didn't respond, he'd know. And now, another girl, who also screeched. Xerk murred at her and shifted, suddenly feeling familiar with this mind.Kyo only responded to Kierla. It was true that she was really watching her child and the new ones from her peripheral vision, but to the other guardian, she actually looked up. "Hello again." She greeted, smiling softly. "Is that... Aricia?" Good! She'd remembered! But alas, she could not recall the other woman's name. The Nozomi His hand closed around the other childs little fingers as well, akwardly, a grin about to show on his lips - when Kishi arrived.
Girl. Girl girl girl.
She was wearing overalls like Makana had been but eitherway, the foxes irritated voice had transformed into a shrill shriek. Somehow, in a matter of seconds, he found himself in the pen with the little tentacle baby, holding Xerk like he was a lifeline.
At least the fox had stopped screaming.
Instead, his eyes were wide - whites showing, all around - and his ears were flat against his skull. Yashimas tail was fluffed to it's greatest extent, wrapped around his midsection and the mind flayer. The pale hands were trembling, but he was no long screaming.
Baby screamings didn't help his momentary ******** class="clear"> ladyumbra Kishi heard and strange confusing series of sounds in her mind. Having met Aricia before she knew that other girl wasn't the culprit. Kishi's ener met the fox boy before but she had a gut feeling that said the noises weren't his. This left only the strange bald baby with his very cool purple tentacles. ' Don't be lonely, you have me' She thought to him. Kishi had no clue if her message would reach the boy, as far as her father had said her special abilities would not surface untill she was older. The fox boys reaction to her startled her at first, the sight of his puffed up fur however reminded her of how some animals made themselves look bigger to scare others. " I am not afriad of you" she growled spreading her wings and gripping her wand tighter," An don't make the baby a hostage" She hissed, what a bad person this fox must be to take a baby as a prisoner so she didn't attack. Aricia was for the moment all but forgotten. Kiarna "Yes," Kierla replied to Kyo - "yes, that's Aricia." It was a 'that' now, rather than a 'this' - Aricia had decided to jump out of her mother's grasp and roll back and forth on the floor, her yells rising in pitch to a sharp "YIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!" to follow Yashi's shrieking.
Looking at Kyo with a calculating eye now, Kierla apparently shared a common short-memory-plagued ancestor with the woman, for she couldn't seem to remember her name either. "And you're...the purple ghost's mother, right?"
Come to think of it, she couldn't remember any of the other's names, either. Except the fox-boy's - started with a Y, did it? Yachi? No, that was Kiarna's kid. Yashi. NinetailedNightmare The sudden actions made Xerksis cry out in protest, though they were quickly muffled when he was swept up into the arms of the kitsune. Now that was more like it! The force that leeched from every semi-intelligent thing -the force that he felt he was in dire need of absorbing- was so close now that it almost seemed like it curled around the boy like a blanket. It was better than any physical pacifier, and he clung contently to the boy's yukata, absorbing it. Of course, Yashi wouldn't feel anything of it- it wasn't as if he was actually sucking out anything. His receptive mind unconsciously was copying down what it could reach in Yashi's, nothing more, nothing less. It wouldn't pry or hurt the boy, so it shouldn't be obvious. Especially not when the boy was distracted like he was.
With so much screaming going on around him, Xerk copied, yowling just for the sake of making a loud noise like the others. His mind did receive Kishi's words, and built a response. 'Who are you?' Yes. You see? His mind was learning rapidly. Too bad his mouth couldn't follow, and his motor skills were less than perfect."Yes, Xerksis... He's over there..." With Yashi. Great. Now they all seemed to be screaming. Kyo let it pass. "Maybe you'd like to put her in the pen?" Instead of letting her just roll on the floor, that is. The Nozomi Yashi just hugged Xerk closer, eyes still wide, still scared on the girl. At her snarlings, however, at her declarations of keeping Xerk a hostage (?!), his lips peeled back and he hissed at the female. His brother did that often - now was his turn.
"Xerk is NOT a hostage," The child growled, tail wrapping more securely about the baby. "G-Go. Get away. Leave me ALONE or I WILL get mad." Not that he wasn't already pretty cheese off but... but! He'd defend Xerk - or himself, whatever - to the death! ladyumbra I'm Kishi I live here' The girl responded gently. She hoped if she was calm with him he'd stop his yelling and lower the obscenely loud noise level. She was surprised her father had come out to investigate what was going on yet. She shook her head at the fox boy " I will not go this is my house." He was bigger than her, probably stronger and that made her nervous, but she wasn't afraid of him or his attitude, after all she'd seen her father far more dangerous looking when he'd yelled at Xtol's mother. " I didn't do nothing to you" she said walking closer but lowering her wand so as to be less agressive looking. If he wasn't hurting this Xerk baby than she wasn't going to hurt him. Kiarna "That's wrong grammer, miss," Kierla couldn't help but say to Kishi. Suddenly she felt like a schoolgirl again. "It's, 'I didn't do anything to you,' not 'nothing'."
She hid the fact that she was actually a little amused by the dialogue between the succubus child and the Yashi. Hostage?
Ah! So the hostage kid was Xerksis. Kierla had a hunch that his name had started with one of the rarer letters. "Thank you...Xerksis's mother," Kierla said, still forgetful of Kyo's name. "Aricia, come on, in you go."
As Kierla lowered Aricia toward the Mindflayer and Kitsune, Aricia giggled with delight - a short respite from her now continuous screeching. Almost choking on the sounds she was making, she reached one hand to a purple tentacle and the other to a fuzzy ear. "GADA!" she screamed. NinetailedNightmare Xerksis listened to the conversation, taking it all in but not quite understanding completely what it was about. He was delighted by the fur that wrapped closer to him, that much he knew. Reaching out with one hand while the other remained clingy, he stroked at the soft white fur happily.
'Kishi. I'm Xerksis.' He told her, more or less mimicking her mind-words. 'Yashi mad... Why?' Obviously he couldn't comprehend the problem of why they were fighting. However, with Aricia there came a distraction. As she reached for a tentacle, he pulled his head back and chomped on her fingers instead. No. 'Chomp' applied to one with teeth, which he didn't have yet. He gummed at the fingers, muffling a similar sound to hers around them.Kyo listened to the corrections and made no comment, looking back to her papers as if reminded. "Ah, it's nothing. Hopefully they'll settle down in a bit... How are you fairing?" Though, she was almost ready to get up and step between the quarreling children. The Nozomi Her house? So. She was Kays sister. While Kay had once been a very close friend to the child-fox, the fact was that now, she made the hair on the back of his neck prickle. Not a good thing, not a fun thing, and this was her sister.
Yashi scooted back, away from the girl, a growl rumbling in the depths of his throat. She kept coming CLOSER. Didn't she know that when someone yelled at you, it meant to back the hell off?
He could feel the muscles and bones shifting under the skin of his face, fingers twitching and, although Yashi couldn't see, his face took on that of Kishis. The edges of his hair even turned black. Silver hair twisted into black wings and the fox/succubus/thing snarled.
"Get. Away. From. ME. NOW." Even his voice was a strange twist of hers and his own, hands twitching.
The next movement would be to pounce if she came much closer - the little girls hand reaching for his ear was met with an almost rough brush off. ladyumbra 'Hi Xerksis you have a nice name, I dunno why Yash is mad, I think he's crazy'. Kishi was amused that Xerk seemed remotely unphased by the arguing going on. She frowned at his actions towards Aricia and had opened her mouth to tell him to play nice when her attention was shifted towards Yashi. She watched him change more than a bit startled, she'd never seen anything like this before except on Sailor Moon and that was only t.v. The result both physically and vocally however, caused an unexpected reaction from her. It was too strange, too strange and weird and the adrenaline she'd been feeling melted away with a fit of laughter. How could she be afraid of something that talked half like her and looked half like her . Nope this was funny not scary, she bet that when the others noticed they'd start laughing too. " I won't go away" giggle "But please turn back, you look" giggle " Really funny that way and it's weird to see me on you." Kiarna Aricia didn't seem all too worried when wet mouth enclosed over her grabbing hand. In fact, quite the opposite: enthralled by the new sensation, she gave a little scream of laughter and attempted to shove her hand further into Xerksis's mouth.
Of course, the fun and games went out of her at the sight of Yashi's transformation. Screaming now of terror and not excitement, Aricia shoved her hand even deeper down Xerk's throat.
Kierla nearly jumped at the sudden change in emotions, and her eyes snapped open and toward her child. What the hell? NinetailedNightmare Yes, he had been generally unfazed by the argument- feelings of hostility and yelling ran often enough in the house that he was getting used to it. That or he was just more calm from being mostly around Kyo. As far as he was concerned, he didn't really care so long as he could cling to someone. That was until Aricia decided to try and steal his tonsils.
Ignoring Kishi's message, the boy gagged upon the limb lodged in his throat, letting go of Yashima so he could use both hands to try and pry it out. He didn't know what was happening, nor why his body was suddenly seizing up like it was. He was going to panic in a millisecond. Freaked out Mindflayer? No one was going to go home without some sort of throbbing behind their temples, even if he might not mean it. Golden eyes were wide for once, one stubby hand clawing at her arm while the other proceeded to pick up Minion and smack the plush against her head. He didn't like this at all!Kyo didn't need to even glance at the aura whipping around Yashi to see how unstable the boy was becoming. Seeing as Kierla was just sitting idly by, it seemed it was her time to intervene. "Children, play nicely. Kishi, why don't you come over here for a moment? Please. Yashima, will you be a dear and help Aricia's arm find its way out of Xerksis' esophagus?" Futile, perhaps, compared to actually getting up and stepping between. However, she felt no real craving for dramatics, nor did she really think she could get up and get there in time. Children fought- this was a reality. It was doubtful Kishi would die from whatever Yashi had to offer, but as an adult she could at least try to intervene. The Nozomi Was... was she LAUGHING at him? The boy couldn't understand WHY - he was snarling and being mean and she was LAUGHING at him. That only served to make him angrier. Scant amounts of fur sprouted and Kishi disappeared. What remained was something definately NOT human - sharp teeth and elongated nails all included.
Xerks choking and Kyos words barely brushed through his conciousness... but the kid WAS 'his' kind of. One small hand shot down, mindful of the child on his lap, and he grabbed the other babys arm. Being older and pissed, he yanked at the girl a rough deal before concentrating back at the b***h on hand.
The mindflayer was n the ground and Yashi had actually sprung, aimed at the girl when a voice pierced the outter edges of his mind.
"Yashi? What the ******** are you doing?"
Tousan?
His face smoothed back into that of a small girly-boys and the boy landed n his stomach rather lamely. Tousan?? His head jerked up to see the slim, dark man enter the main enterance way of the HQ. His face looked a bit bruised but --
"TOUSAN!" Yashi shrieked. Sure, he usually remained quiet but...but THIS was his tousan! HE was back! The fox child scrambled over the pen and towards the older man, arms latching around his waist. "TOUSAN TOUSAN YOU'RE BACK!" ladyumbra Kishi simply stared at the others unable to comprehend what in all the names of hell was going on. She had lowered her laughing fit into mild giggles when Yashi had launched himself at her. She'd swung her wand up to defend only to find it unneccasary as the crazed boy appeared to have been tamed by someone else. "You're all crazy," She muttered quietly.'cept maybe you Xerk' She thought to him. Really, screaming and changing and sticking hands in throats, what were they all thinking ? Kishi shook her head. " Crazy." Kiarna Aricia's siren wail only increased in pitch as the beast-Yashi, er, thoughtfully guided her arm back to her side. Sobbing, her face screwed up in that way only babies can manage, she held up her arms (one of them now thoroughly slimy) to Kierla, who took the cue and picked her up, looking rather uncomfortable of shortening the distance between a screaming baby and her ears.
Luckily for her, Aricia stopped her caterwauling almost immediately, appearing almost happy again. "Fooo-oo-oo! Keee!" she gabbled, raising one hand and wriggling it in the wave at Patrick, using the other to throw her wand at Kishi - "KA-ZEEE~" - then promptly popping the thumb into her mouth, looking distinctly adorable.
"Sorry about that," Kierla said in a low voice to Kyo. It was all she could think of to say at the moment.
Actually, there was also... "What's his name again?" she asked. All she remembered was he was the father of Yashi, and his name...something about his name...like those Saint Days. Could it be Valentine? Nah. NinetailedNightmare Aricia's arm was removed, and Xerksis proceeded to cough and regain his breath. He was occupied enough so that when Yashi set him down to attack Kishi, he hardly protest. No, there was still one left in the pin. One that felt familiar and was suitable enough to latch on... Until Aricia got picked up too. The mindflayer was left by himself again- never a good thing, as Kyo had learned all too quickly.
'Lonely.' It was almost a demand now; a warning. Golden eyes shifted to Kishi, whom was still outside his pen. Sucking in a deep breath, Xerksis prepared another roar.Kyo glanced up when Patrick entered, muscles relaxing slightly beneath their dark clothing. Oh, the child's father was here. That was good... or at least she thought so. Hopefully he wasn't going to come over and try to strangle Kishi or something equally as crude. Mentally, she tried to soothe Xerksis, who was just ready to blow.
"I... Um.. Pat, I think." She informed Kierla just as softly, beginning to set her papers aside. No sense in letting her child squall any more with other ears present. She simply couldn't care less if it was only her, but Kyo was a considerate person by nature. The Nozomi Poor Xerk. Yashi heard the demand of the small child being lonely but... what was he to do? Patrick fixed the dilima for him, moving towards the pen with Yashi in his arms, petting at the foxes back soothingly.
"I'm back," The dark man assured his son, "I'm back and I'm not leaving again." He continued to pet until he heard that deep inward drawn breath... Yashi stepped away, reluctlantly, to scoop up the mind flayer. He fluffed up his tail, draping it around Xerk to further amuse him.
And even then, he still leaned against Patrick, even as his fingers were rubbing at the little bald noggin. "Sorry, Xerk," He mumbled, nuzzling his tousans shoulder. "No lonely." ladyumbra Kishi caught the wand Arica had thrown at her, it was much lighter than her own and easy to hold. " Yes you are crazy" She teased the baby winking at her. At least she knew Aricia liked her even if she was throwing things. With Yashi apparently calmed Kishi deemed it safe enough to approach him. Not that she really wanted to it was Xerks call for attention with his mind and eyes that compelled her to move towards him and the fox boy holding him. Still she was wary as she stood there, she was well within striking range if Yashi grew angry again. 'It's ok Xerk' she thought' no more crazyness and no one will leave you lonely'. She had a feeling Yashi could have kept the strange boy from feeling lonely himself but that wasn't fair to her, after allthey were in her house and she had rights to play with anyone who seemed to want to talk her. Kiarna "KAAY! ZEEE!" Aricia said again, gabbling in a language that sounded like hysterical laughter but might actually have a few words in there. She bounced up and down like a slippery piece of soap, her two wings suddenly snapping out of her back - managing to surprise Kierla enough to drop her. The pegasus baby didn't seem at all hurt, however; she just began rolling on the ground again, toward the three children, making grabby hands at her wand. Maybe they could play Wand Wars again!
Rather keen on making sure Aricia wasn't hurt by the fall, yet not wanting to seem like a caring person, Kierla slowly glided after the rolling blob of pink. "Hello," she said as flat as possibly, nodding toward Patrick. Then, resisting the urge to glance back at Kyo for affirmation, she added: "Pat." Hopefully that really was his name. It sounded authentic enough, anyways.

Xerksis is suffering from a little separation anxiety. I believe the best way to deal with this is probably stay with him at times, but not when he demands the attention. It isn't as if Xerksis seems to need it- he's not scared of his surroundings or people. In fact, he seems rather open to others, which may be a bit worrisome. Children that are easily won over may fall into greater conflicts later. It is just something I will have to teach him when he is old enough to understand.
I took him to the headquarters today to play with the other children while I graded papers. There was a conflict, but thankfully not with Xerksis. If anything, he only succeeded in bringing all the children together... with his screaming. I had begun to exercise my theory of not always meeting with his demands.
I'm guessing Yashima's father had been missing for some time, because the boy greeted him as if he hadn't seen him for a while. The fox had picked a fight with some little girl with bat's wings before Patrick came along; we're lucky he did. Saw Kierla again, and her little girl Aricia. Aricia, like Xerksis, has made it into a child-like form. She's very cute, in my opinion. I think Xerksis might be a little wary of her now after the pegasus attempted to choke him with her arm. I've checked him- no harm done.
The only child I hadn't seen before was the one with the odd wings. I could hear her speaking with Xerksis, but I cannot fully recall her name. It begins with a 'K', for sure. Karen? Anyway, the boy seems to be pretty neutral around her. Most of the time he seemed content trying to blanket himself if Yashima's tail.

I'm beginning to think that trying to ignore Xerksis' problem with separation isn't the right answer. It's fine to give a child attention and nurture them, but when they throw a tantrum when they don't get their way... Well, it just isn't the best thing for development to coddle them all of the time. If the child constantly gets their way, they beget a certain amount of expectations that just won't always be met in the real world. Not only that, but they might not be able to become independent at a suitable age. Granted, my other children are nearly thirty and they live with me, but they choose to do so. Talis has an apartment, and Ebony is fully capable of having her own home. I do not know why it is exactly they continue to come attend to me. I have decided that not questioning their decisions is for the best- they are adults now. As for Kaze... Well, his early development is not something I'm responsible. I'd rather keep him with me.
I deter. The reason I feel the need to write the aforementioned information is to better explain my actions for the events that just occurred.
It was a perfectly good restaurant, and Talis did a wonderful job in picking it out for our outing as a family. There were six of us- Ebony, Talis, Kaze, Zetsu, Xerksis, and myself. Talis said that his teenagers all had previous engagements and couldn't attend, which was unfortunate, though perhaps for the best. I'm doubt they would have wanted to be in attendance for the ordeal that unfolded. It started out perfectly normal until we tried to sit the babies down in high-chairs. Zetsu, as usual, was being difficult just as soon as he caught sight of food. The boy will eat anything- always hungry. I made the mistake of sitting he and Xerksis next to each other between myself and Ebony.
Well, Xerksis wasn't too pleased when I tried prying him off of me, but I managed to get him into the chair without a sound. I suppose he went so easily because he noticed Zetsu would be near him. It's only a living body that he really wants to hold. Anyway, he leaned over and promptly snagged up one of Zetsu's limbs. Not a good mood while the boy is hungry -and he always is. Shortening the story, Zetsu bit Xerksis, which he's never felt before. The child burst out into... a noise I cannot properly describe other than 'loud'. It was quite inhuman- you would have thought, as an onlooker, that the child was being ritually sacrificed or something along those lines. He wouldn't stop. Not even when I picked him up and tried to console him.
I was able to block it out, but I have no doubt in my mind that those around us were inflicted with a migraine. I had made the mistake before of having my guard down when Xerksis was worked up... the result feels skull-splitting. Our glasses shattered after a moment. We were, understandably, asked to leave. It probably would have been worse if Ebony hadn't paid for the broken things- Talis was willing to argue the employment down.
I'll have to work on weaning Xerksis off from constant contact so he doesn't end up hurting himself or someone else. I'm not sure how exactly I'll do this yet, but I'm thinking by slow increments would be the most effective. You cannot automatically detach yourself from a case so acute as this- I know that now. Luckily, Xerksis is still early in his growth and though he is impressionable, he does not yet have a firm foundation. Until another concerning scenario...

NinetailedNightmare Kyo was somewhat disappointed to see so little life wandering about the HQ this day, though it was much more peaceful compared to the last visit. The english teacher had seated herself in one of the lobby's hard-back chairs to keep her awake while Xerksis was set loose before her. Of course she wasn't worried as to whether or not he'd wander off. He wouldn't, simple as that. Separation was an issue with the young Illithid as of late- a mountain that only grew a bit higher every time she tried to look around it.Xerksis sat between his guardian's feet, one arm wrapped firmly around her ankle while the other set to work on twisting one of the dual knobs set against a board of plastic. The child was absorbed in the etch-a-sketch for the moment, content in watching as thin lines appeared from virtually nowhere. They ran chaotically across the toy without design or tact, twisting just for the sake of twisting. Really, you couldn't properly work and etch-a-sketch with one hand, but Xerk didn't seem to be having a problem with his abstract development. He wouldn't be pried from Kyo so easily, but it had still been a good try, right? Eamane Having finally managed to finish unpacking, Eamane made her way towards the GotP headquarters in hopes of finding some more information in regards to her wispy charge. She was begining to worry about Kiran's slow development and it had nothing what so ever to with the fact she almost manged to vacume him up every time she tried to clean the house, nope nothing at all.
She pushed the door open and poked her head inside and almost turned to leave before catching sight of a woman and a young child. Smiling brightly she entered, Kiran poking out of the bag hanging from her shoulder. "Hello, I hope I'm not disturbing anything." NinetailedNightmare The dark-haired woman glanced up as a voice spoke. Sure, she had sensed Eamane coming in, but had almost assumed the woman was about to leave. Dark navy eyes blinked once up at the other, then slowly guided her eyes to the aura she could see emitting from Eamane's bag. "No... Of course not. I see you've made it to the whisping stage... Are you new?" She offered in a soft tone. The child on the floor shifted, also acknowledging the newcomers' presences. Those oddly-shaped eyes seemed to eye Eamane boredly... yet they didn't turn away even after he'd given her a once-over. Eamane Eamane pushed a stand of curly hair behind a pointed ear and wandered over. Still smiling, she was an overly friendly creature, the elf nodded. "Yes...he, she...it? has been a wisp for a very long time. We aren't new by any means. Kiran, " she looked down at her wand "is on the first page of the book." She glanced back up meeting Kyo's navy eyes with her own violet ones.
Her eyes drifted away and rested on the baby who was staring at her. It was a bit disconcerting to say the least. She smiled weakly, "Hello there." His appearance was a bit surprising but having lived in gaia for so many years things rarely startled her for long. NinetailedNightmare "The first?" Kyo's brows lifted in a rare display of emotion. As to Eamane's character, the woman made no judgments. She was simply there, over-friendly or not, and because she was not hostile Kyo was inclined to be polite. Not that she wouldn't be anyway. She just didn't really feel... anything besides a mild curiosity towards Kiran's wand and their guardian. "I don't recall the exact page my child was posted on, but it must have been quite a ways in... Only recently did he finally solidify." She lowered her eyes to the boy. "Xerksis, say hello.""Uhn," The infant gave a grumpy little huff, eying Eamane as if she were about to run over and try to take his toy away. Jeez, kid... Not a moment later, the arm not hooked to Kyo jutted out towards Eamane or, to be more exact, the wand. Give! Not a moment later, the arm not hooked to Kyo jutted out towards Eamane or, to be more exact, the wand. Give! Eamane Eamane nodded and blushed. She was afraid she may have sounded like she was bragging. "Yes, but I think I'm doing something wrong because everyone else seems to grow so much faster." She sighed and took a seat near Kyo, "Of course it could be because my family was away for a while. Maybe the wands have to be near the headquarters to change." She paused and blushed a brighter red as she realized she was rambling. "Sorry if I'm talking to much...it's a bad habit." The woman looked nice enough and she certainly didn't want to scare her away so soon.
She giggled at the little boy. "Xerksis? What a different name. Well hello then Xerksis." At his gestures she instictively put her hand onto the wand. She bit her lip uncertainly and then with a shrug handed the wand over. This boy couldn't do anymore harm than she herself had done. "Please be careful with it" she cautioned NinetailedNightmare No, not at all. Kyo was simply surprised to be meeting the first ghost to have been resurrected. Of course, there was bound to be a first of everything -she knew that- so perhaps it was the fact that this wand was still... Well, she would think no more of it. It wasn't right. She shook her head slightly, slowly. "If you were going to do something wrong, the wand would not have chosen you. All children are unique to one another, and some will take more time to develop than most. It is not always the parent's fault." She pointed out softly, her voice carrying the drowsiness of a recent sleep. A soft smile. "It's not a bad habit. Interaction is always good... One of my other sons, at times, experiences similar spats. Only... he happens to know over ten different languages and uses them all. You're... more than fine."Xerksis grunted at her intelligibly before his stubby fingers closed around the wand. Good thing Xerk wasn't the type to stuff things into his mouth, or else poor Kiran might have met his doom then. The Mind Flayer pulled the wand towards him silently, now focusing on the wisp. Curiously, he tilted his virtually bald head forward, leaving it inside the wisp's reach knowingly. What would it do?"Yes... I heard it in a dream." His name, that was. "When it came to bringing Xerksis to the next level of his ethereal form... Well, I believe it was after getting him a text that he may use later for his specific abilities. And... after I accepted him for what he was... I wanted him." She didn't sound ashamed at all about it. "I'm Kyo, by the way..." Eamane Eamane nodded feeling reassured. It wasn't that she thought she was doing something wrong just a nagging idea at the back of her mind. "I suppose you're right."
Kiran floated, his vague head titled a bit curiously. He seemed to lean forward stopping just short of Xerksis' head. What a strange creature, it felt different from the one that normally carried him around. He felt a moment of panic at that but it passed. This creature almost felt more right than she did.
"A dream? I just got Kiran from a baby book, hopefully it wont mind to much. What is Xerksis if you don't mind me asking? Kiran is a Selkie" she supplied. "oh, I forgot my manners. I'm Eamane" NinetailedNightmare Even though all of the reincarnated spirits were of different races, there would probably always be that little connected that linked them all together- that magic which had pulled them out of limbo. Whatever Kiran was feeling, Xerksis most likely felt it too, a pleased little smile crawling over his features. His arm let go of Kyo for the moment, instead allowing the infant to lean one shoulder against her leg so his free hand could now harass the wisp. Not that he actually was touching it yet. It was a faded memory, being in such a state. He could touch others like him. Now the baby's first instincts were unsure. So now he held out his fingers, cupping his hand close behind Kiran but not actually touching."Yes..." Kyo nodded slightly, her eyes sliding halfway shut. "Well, most people do use those help books. It is a good source, and I know a few people here that have done the same. An abnormal name... just felt right. Xerksis is a Mind Flayer... it's a type of psychic race that live underground." Oh course don't include they're all squid-people, Kyo. "How nice to meet you Miss... Miss..." Her eyes drifted shut, head lolling slightly forward so her long, black hair covered her face. She was... asleep? Yes, it certainly seemed so. Eamane Eamane frowned slightly, "i can't say I've ever heard of a mind flayer. But then I didn't know what a selkie was either at first..." Her babbling trailed off as she noticed her companions inattention. Had she fallen asleep? Eamane peered at the woman with a question expression. It certainly looked like she was asleep. A narcoleptic (sp) perhaps? The little elf fidgetted nervously unsure of what to do as she watched Xerksis playing with the wisp that would eventually be Kiran.
Kiran was uncertain of what to do, he had only been awake for a few months. Not mention a wisp didn't have much room for a developed conciousness. Instict would have to do for now. The wisp leaned forward more and hesitantly touched Xerksis' head. NinetailedNightmare Yellow eyes lacking any semblance of pupils slowly narrowed as Kiran leaned forward, eventually crossing comically as he tried to keep track of it. The ghostly hands on his cranium did not go unnoticed. In a motion of his mind that was becoming quite routine, he reached out mentally and searched for something he did not exactly know the purpose of. All the child could understand was that if the wisp had this certain mental feature, then it could be contacted. Kiran wouldn't feel anything, or shouldn't. The feature was not found, so Xerk left it be without a second thought, cooing softly at the soon-to-be selkie instead. He may not have been able to converse with Kiran, but he could certainly send him pleasant vibes; normal humans did that to others every day. The infant pushed a content, perhaps soothing feeling towards the wisp, as if attempting to assure it that its instincts were fine. The baby's hand absently moved behind Kiran, petting the air above it. Good wisp. To Eamane he passed a sort of bored look, shoving a pink tongue out at her as he'd seen a few of his housemates do. Brat. Yes, he believed this was his wand now...

It had been quiet the beginning of that morning- the calm before the storm. Grouchy and somewhat groggy, three home-schooled teenagers congregated themselves around the couch. One would have never thought them to be siblings, what with their common body differences -one was green, for chrissakes- but they were. The mutual tolerance between one another signified they were.
"I'll be going now," Talis informed the three. "I trust you all to do whatever is expected and asked of you while you're in someone else's home."
"You're going to be late," Noted the green-skinned female on the couch, leaned back and currently channel-surfing.
"Eh." Snorted the emerald-haired male next to her, shifting his legs propped up on another boy's shoulders while raking his fingers unconcernedly through the other's toxic green hair.
"Have a nice day at work, Dad!" Said the boy with his back to the couch, turning his head to affectionately sink his serrated teeth into the meat of his brother's calve.
Ah, how innocent they were! Or not. Without further reason to stay, the man in the business suit turned and left the trio to their own devices. ~~Skip =0~~
"Kaze, please settle down. You'll wake him."
"But but! He's so cute! Can't I pat him? Just once?"
"No." Kyo said simply, softly. Her navy gaze fell on the teenagers, two of which were wrestling. "Noelle," She addressed the female not currently involved in a tussle. "Will you please take Xerksis?"
Noelle lifted a brow at the woman, surprised. "What would I do with him? I don't know how to care for a child."
"Mm. I think it is time for you to learn..." Mused Kyo, slowly drifting over. "I have to go to school today and unfortunately, teachers are not allowed to bring their children in if they're not the proper age. I believe I've pushed him upon Redd enough for the week. So please, will you and your brothers watch him? I'll make sure to come back at lunch to make sure you're doing alright..."
"Of course we'll take him." Dionaea announced with a smile as he pinned his brother to the floor. To Kaze, he flashed another smile. "Have a good time at school, Uncle, Grandma."
"Shut up, D." Avarice hissed reproachfully, lifting his head to tear at the boy's ear with his teeth.
"Thank you." Kyo smiled, setting Xerk gently down in Noelle's lap, who took him quietly with her still-stunned expression. "If you need any help, call Redd. Her number is on the fridge. He doesn't usually wake up until nine, but when he does please make sure..." And the woman continued to softly detail her in.
"And hey guys, Nozami can help some. He keeps an eye on Zetsu when Kyo-sensei and I aren't around."
Avarice snorted haughtily, then grinned. "Sure, Kaze. If we can get him out of his room, we'll ask him."
"Good! Well, Kyo-san, let's go! We're going to be late!"
"Right, right..." The woman said absently, running her pale fingers one last time over the infant's bald head before she allowed herself to be pulled off. "Please take good care of him.."
"Yeesh," Avarice snorted, effectively throwing Dionaea off of him. "You'd think she knew something bad was going to happen."

Halloween Occurrences Bobbing for Apples Xerksis watched curiously as his guardian leaned over the water-filled basin before them. What was she doing? And what were those red things bobbing about in the water? Idly, the child chewed at the reflective tin-foil wrapped around his arms. Kaze's idea- dress him up as an alien! The stuff was weird and a bit heavy on him but, hey, at least it was shiny? And tasted interesting. Chewchewchew. The crazy eyes on springs attached to his foil helmet bobbed chaotically as he shook his head up at her. Now she was collecting her hair behind her head with one hand, carefully dipping her face into the water below in hopes of not disturbing the apples too much.
She came back up with the water dribbling from her nose and chin. The infant found a bit of humor in her somewhat disoriented expression and trembled once with hidden laughter. Well, now that this ritual was done, could they move on?

Well, Xerksis' first Halloween is over. What a fiasco. Kaze wanted to dress him up in the tinfoil we never use, so I let him. Why not? So Xerk went as an alien/space-man for Halloween. I'm sure there's a picture of him somewhere, as I recall Kaze with a disposable... Or was that last year? Or the next? Ah, well, Halloween was not quite so chaotic as I had thought. Not that I got to see all of it.
Talis informed me that I fell asleep and nearly dropped the child. Apparently I couldn't woken up for a while so Ebony took me home. I don't know where Kaze went for the event with his children, but I assume the new Egyptian-esque child running about my home has something to do with it. Ptolemy is his name. I've tried to converse with the child, but for some reason he's fearful of me and takes shelter in Nozami's room every time I attempt. Perhaps he is curious about Xerksis- I'm not sure. I saw him looking into Xerk's crib earlier.
I haven't allowed the child to eat any of his Halloween candy. Illithid or not, he is still a child. I went through this same fiasco with Zetsu... So why is he throwing up what looks suspiciously like a twizzler and a colorful arrangement of jelly beans? I believe it's time to have a talk with Kaze about how exactly a baby's stomach works.

"Hey sugar, how was class?" One dark mahogany hand reached down to stroke through the top of an even darker child's head. Sibuna smiled down at her son -her little warrior, she was coming to accept- as he stepped out the door of the fighting academy. It wasn't necessarily a very prodigious establishment, nestled between a grocery store and a video arcade, but it was affordable and productive. She thought. The boy often practiced his forms in the back yard, but just what were they for?
"Good!" Daemyn grinned up at his mother. "How was work?"
"Oh, the same. Now that we're done, though, we can get home and do some more."
"Work?" The black-skinned fae asked, tilting his head while fingering the dark green belt cinched about his waist.
"Mmm. Tonight we need to figure out how we're going to be setting up your sister's crib. Never know when we'll have a baby on our hands." Up until now, the ghostly green apparition had been ignored and left to swirl atop its thick wand. Pretty hard to catch attention just this way, huh? Darva wasn't really concerned about it, lacking the ability to multitask in such a way while she was entertaining herself by seeing how far her wispy body could stretch.
With a sigh, the double doors of the market's exit hissed aside... and remained so for a moment. The woman before them had suddenly become occupied, holding an infant aloft by the back of his shirt inches above the unforgiving tile of the store floor. It had been a surprise for the teacher to say the least, seeing her baby throw himself forward out of the carrier perched atop the cart. It had been an attempt to grab onto her, but the leap had fallen short. For a moment the boy was able to hang on with gums and fingers to the bottom of her shirt, then eventually just fell. Kyo had been woken up enough by then to snatch him up before he smacked the floor.
Xerksis gave a short huff as if oblivious to the danger, wriggling in hope of getting some actual contact. A moment later and he was lifted up and pressed against a rather ample chest, and allowed to slightly hang over the woman's shoulders. Kyo sighed, turning her head to look the boy over with tired dark blue eyes, checking for any signs of bruising. No, the Illithid seemed to be just fine if not a little grumpy. How dare she try and keep him away from her. One hand reached up and grabbed at those long strands of black hair, fisting them in his fingers and giving a reproachful yank. Bad. Xerk not pleased.
Other than a soft grunt from feeling some of her hair pull free from the roots, the woman made no protest. Instead, she silently thought to herself the possibilities of dropping this child and watched. Oh, look... her cart was rolling into the parking lot.
"Woah, run-away buggy!" Before Sibuna could protest, Daemyn was gone from her side, running right out into the street! to save the rolling cart.
"Daemyn!" No cart of groceries was worth the fae's life! Walking as fast as she could (Darva might blow away if she ran), the woman followed the boy's path and perched worriedly at the edge of the sidewalk as he caught up to and retrieved the cart. Cars had already stopped after the first time he'd shot past them and now waited running while he wheeled the thing back.
"It's alright, Mother, I have it!"
"Baby, that ain't the problem..." However, she was distracted by the woman still standing in the door. Wait. She seemed oddly familiar. "Miss Kyo?"
Hearing her name, the older woman was shaken from her thoughts and swung her head slowly about to take in Sibuna. Yes, she must know this woman. The toy store, and the library, she recalled. Of course she couldn't remember the other female's name at the moment to save her life. Yet she remembered the wand- some sort of nymph, right?
"Oh... Hey you," She greeted softly, shrugging her shoulder in hopes of dissuading Xerksis from his game of pulling her hair. Her eyes flitted to Daemyn, who had caught her cart. "Is that little gentleman yours?"
"Muh." Said Xerk smartly, boredly looking over at Sibuna. There was no recognition from this proximity. He had been a wisp the last time he'd met the woman, after all.
"He's mine," Sibuna murmured absently, more focused on Daemyn crossing the street with the cart. Sometimes she wished he wasn't hers the way he had her worried, but that was rare. "Watch out, baby, there's a car." Yeah, but they were waiting. She hated those tin cans on wheels so much, she could hardly stand the thought of possibly losing her adoptive son to one. Right now she was very paranoid that the whole parking lot was going to explode. As soon as Daemyn was back, she took the boy by the shoulder and steered him to one of her wide hips, pressing him into her side. "You haven't ever seen this lady, have you, Daemyn?"
"No ma'am." The boy answered, his black eyes studying Kyo and her brood. "Nor the baby."
"Baby...." Sibuna repeated, before she finally noticed. Baby! The other had a baby! "Is that who I think it is?" She asked, a grin on her dark features.
"Who?" The fae prodded, trying to look polite. To an experienced eye, he was restless.
"Oh, Miss Kyo, this is Daemyn, my eldest," Sibuna went on, nodding to the boy. "Daemyn, this is Miss Kyo and her son..." Help her out here, Kyo. Meanwhile, the little dryad twisted above her staff, emitting pleasant smells to indicate mood but terribly oblivious of Xerk.
"Xerksis." Kyo finished, nodding. One pale hand wrapped around the cart and tugged it back, holding it in one hand and Xerksis in the other arm. The aforementioned baby merely snorted, clutching at his mother's shirt like the spoiled, possessive brat he was. "Hello, Daemyn. And the little Meliae..." The corners of her lips creased, as if she would smile if she could.
"They have both grown since we have met. She's close now..." The dark-haired one rambled.

Kyo had never been very observant to the obvious. At least, not at first. Absorbed in some other issue, she often forgot reality that went on just before her eyes. Perhaps, if she was not so prone to daydreaming, her second youngest son wouldn't come to her so many times after school with gum plastered throughout his hair, or have to brush so many spit-balls from her own at the day's end. Maybe she could have prevented some of the profane messages from being written on the walls and various desks of her classroom if she had taken the time to actually focus on the ones whose auras weren't suspiciously groggy as much as she did the ones that were.
Just possibly, had she not been so content with musing over the newest batch of 'dreams' she'd witnessed and their probable purposes, she would have noticed the event unfolding before her eyes.
"Come on, kid, if you want it, you're gonna have to come get it." Avarice leered from his place in the middle of the living room. Across the way, upon the couch, leaned a rather disgruntled little boy. His striking yellow eyes glared back at the green-haired teenager, showing hints of the stubbornness and careful pride that would be developing later in his life. Greed himself only grinned a little wider. "Oh, I see. You're giving it to me, Xerky? How generous of you."
"Shutup." The word was grumbled, but very clear from the boy. He'd been perfecting it for some time now.
"Go on, Xerk," Said Dionaea from his left on the couch. The fly-winged male reached out and hesitantly patted the top of the Mindflayer's head, scratching lightly through the developing, fine black hairs. "Just like the other day. Go show 'im who's boss."
"As owner of this new...thing," Avarice continued regally, not discouraged a bit by his brother's pep-talk, "I'll be performing a trial of worthiness... by fire. Think its stuffin' can stand it?" A long, syringe-tipped tail tightened around its prize -a stuffed silvery dog of sorts made to possess a likeness to a beast from some new popular game- shaking the stuffy before thumping it upon the floor. That did it.
"No!" Xerksis practically screeched, bristling as well as a boy as young as he was could. He was crawling to the edge of the couch as first as his tiny body could move him, turning about to climb down feet first. After gripping the edge of the couch to steady his unstable legs for a moment, the boy set off across the floor one foot carefully after the other. There was a determined look on his little features, eyes only focused on the task ahead. No matter how he wavered or shook, he was coming to get that goddamned stuffy.
A chuckle rumbled forth from the devious sin incarnate, tail swaying side to side with the toy as if impatiently. The responses that came from the boy were just priceless. "What? You want it now? Fine. Here." As soon as the boy was close enough, the tail extended and gently dropped the stuffed dog upon the floor. Quickly, it was scooped up into the arms into the young Illithid and pressed shamelessly to his chest. His glare didn't soften much upon the older boy. Avarice snorted. From the couch, Dionaea applauded.
Shaken from her thoughts, Kyo absently guided her navy eyes to the boys. Ah, nothing serious. Just Avarice teasing Xerk into walking across the room to get-- wait. "How long has he been able to walk?" Kyo asked, tired eyes somewhat widening. The greedy Shee boy looked her way and shrugged.
"He's been walking for... oh, a little less than a week?" Dionaea volunteered. "You were sleeping in that chair when Noelle suggested we all move across the room and see what happened. He screamed for about five minutes before crawling. You don't remember? And then he started using the furniture to come over. That's gotta be the longest he's been able to walk without tripping. That's why you did that, right, Ava?"
" 'course." Avarice responded haughtily, grinning. "I-- Aaargh! What the ********, kid? OW YA LITTLE s**t ********-" A whole stream of colorful words pierced the apartment as the boy in question sunk his teeth into his bully's kneecap. He'd managed to waddle over unnoticed while the chatter had gone on, and was now taking a vengeful chunk out of his nephew's knee for the inconvenience of coming to rescue his toy. It was obvious the teen was holding himself back from punting the kid across the room, settling for a harsh shake of his leg.
Compliantly, Xerksis stepped away with a snort of satisfaction. Sensing his guardian's pure dumbfounded emotion, he glanced over. Hmph. Those legs wobbled and wavered in protest, but the Mindflayer stomped over to his 'mother' with plush in arms, ignoring the curses left behind him and Dionaea's cautious comforting. He reached Kyo after a few quick minutes, grabbing onto her dark pants before resting his head upon her lap. The c**k of brow was a silent message. What?
The English teacher shook her head slowly, reaching out with wonder to touch her son's head, no longer bald. When had this hair come in? When he'd said his first word, and grown his first tooth, none of this black hair had been there. "Xerksis," She said softly, almost for the sake of saying his name alone. The child watched her expectantly- he knew his own name now. "You've...grown." She managed lamely after a moment. The boy grunted, curved eyes drifting shut for the moment while he allowed his hair to be stroked. Yes, he'd grown, and wormed his way into toddler-hood. And all in the span of time when she seemed to be paying the least amount of attention. Kyo sighed softly, reaching down to pull the boy up into her arms... while she still could.
