Penumbra Shade

PostPosted: Wed May 02, 2007 12:31 pm

The Lord glared silently at the peasant's spirit, just floating there, almost indifferent to the movement of the great dragon beneath him. The entire journey there, Shade had been increasingly annoyed by the irritating fact that he had to grip onto the dragon's lacy fur to hold on, while the ethereal Al Sylian had simply been able to float there, without getting pulled away by the strong wind like an autumn leaf.
Still, the ride had not been without it's upside--namely the fact that he'd managed to get through nearly the entire thing without having his stomach uncerimoniously robbed of it's last meal. Somehow though, he did not regret it being nearly at it's end...

It had taken a fair amount of time before Trelweny had been able to relax enough from her fretting of leaving her family behind to enjoy the marvel of riding a-dragonback. It was something she had until now only been able to do in her dreams -dreams which at times seemed so real the woman had needed to actually take time to convince herself they were dreams at all. Sometimes still, she still wondered though she told no one. Not even her bonded kyunru though Keyna suspected what was behind that particular barricade as she had beyond all the others. Wind whipped the short tendrils loose from her braided hair to flutter around her face while the long braid itself snapped behind her, much to the annoyance of the GaiaCom who had to repeatedly swat it from her face.

Trelweny glanced down to the ground far below her. Flying never seemed to effect her mild fear of heights. It was only climbing man-made things that sparked that -more when those things moved than anything else. Right now it was the sight below that enthralled her. Never before had she seen anything like the gates they approached in more than pictures or paintings. "Wow..." Trel breathed softly.

Myranda was less impressed, but then somehow her programming had lead to a personality Timex probably had not fully anticipated when ordering her as a friend for his spouse. Hard to ask him now, of course. Still she held some appretication for their trip and current destination. Only one thing bothered her. "Why don't we simply fly directly to where the winged boy can be repaired?"

"That would defeat the purpose of a trial." Roan responded to Myranda as he swung round in a loop around the gates. "The objective of Mirror is to reach the Range by a variety of means, while flying would be the easiest option he would not experience that which is necessary to complete the Cloister." His words echoing through the winds and the rumbles causing gentle vibrations in his body...

"You are only allowed one attempt at the Cloister, failure to achieve your goal leaves no other alternative." And with that he began to descend, carefully balancing on his hind legs as he lowered his head to the ground. While the guards did nothing to stop this, they still looked on in awe - dragons were a thing of legend, sacred in their lands and now one stood before them.

"Welcome to the Merchant Gates." He growled, closing his eyes as his son accidentally stepped onto one. Sliding down to the ground, he gave a shake to fix the fur on his body and then smiled up towards his comrades expectantly.

Meanwhile, as Hayaharu continued to dine on her own meal she afforded a small smile. Reika seemed to be recovering in the presence of new sights and it was a nice change. While she wasn't completely herself as of yet, perhaps in time she would begin to dance and sing once more - alleviating the tension within all the men.

"I assure you, you will have the same clothes as I do and you will rival even the most beautiful geisha." While the woman would never wish the occupation on the Elysian, some Geisha truly were absolutely beautiful - it was how they were ranked after all.

"But perhaps we should discover where your summoner has gone." Offering her hands so that Reika and Kanjiru could jump into them, she canted her head to the side and chuckled. While others would struggle to locate their friends in this environment, Hayaharu would not... Akiya and Koniryu were very easy to pick out in a crowd.

Mirror was hardly paying attention by the time Roan spoke up about the tasks that laid ahead. Jerked back to reality by the sound of his name roling of the tongue of the mighty dragon below him, Mirror listened to the description of the task. One chance. If Mirror had been in a better mood he might've blanched in fright, but alas, he was in no mood for such emotions. He frowned a bit, sighed, and slipped off the silver dragon. He gave a slight flutter to his wings, straightened his ethereal body and stood beside Xo. He felt empty inside. He glanced once at the amazed guards and found himself terribly envious of their physical manifestations. He wished he could've pinched himself, but unfortunately he couldn't even feel his own touch.

They were close...As soon as they got to the Cloister his mind would be preoccupied in making it through instead of on these pitiful ponderings of non-existence.

"I doubt I could truly rival a geisha.. but tis a nice thought, I'm thinkin'." She tilted her head gently in thought, a tiny grin on her face. It wouldn't be a bad thing to look pretty and dressed up every now and then. This place was really pretty and she felt like she could so get lost there. Which was an easy possibility anywhere she was honestly. But though she knew she probably should have been afraid of it, she wasn't. Maybe it was because she knew that Koni and Akiya were there to help her out if she needed them and then there was Lady Hayaharu there.

"I would like to know where he is..a nd I hope Uncle Akiya hasn't gotten distracted by something shiny!" Giggling to herself, she and Kanjiru hopped into her hands and settled to get confortable. She truly didn't feel like dancing or singing then. Her heart, though it was feeling just a bit lighter, was still too heavy for her to hear the normal music she felt and heard in her heart and mind. Maybe the more they toured this area, she could feel better and maybe try at a later date.

The GaiaCom huffed at the response, her logic circuits understanding to degree what the dragon-who-was-not-a-dragon was saying. If it could be said of her, one would say Myranda was curious to discover how a spectre would accomplish what was clearly a difficult task.

But that was not her perogotive. Keeping Trelweny safe was. She glanced at the human watching as she slid down the dragon's foreleg to stand with the others. She could see Trelweny was still in shock, her overtaxed mind more taxed as her green eyes took in the sights of the Merchant Gates. The GaiaCom's mint green eyes narrowed as she silently followed the widow to the ground. She would have to watch her carefully.

For the moment, Myr knew they were safe however. So long as the dragon was there. Her sensors indicated the almost worshipful awe of those watching. Yes, she could take the time to gather input from her surroundings. It would likely be useful later. She silently thanked Timex's spirit for having the good sense to fit her with the largest internal memory bank available. They were certain to experience sights & wonders they never would again and it would do both females well to have a recording of it for later. The witch would have to edit some things out for her human 'friend' until Trelweny was more prepared to accept them perhaps, but that was to be expected. It was dificult business, breaking down someone's inhibitions. Myr knew Timex had not succeeded with that in his mate before his death. That meant it fell to her and anyone she could use.

"Let us hope not." Gathering the group into her arm, the geisha picked up her bag and calmly left the tea house. While in the territory of her homeland her bills were covered by her house, she could do as she pleased provided that it benefited her name. That being said, she had done little to 'benefit' anything other than herself and her hungry tummy. However, now she had something more important to attend to and that involved locating a certain band of oddballs who could have been terrorising the citizens by now!

Therefore, it was with a soft sigh that she began to drift down the streets once more, pausing only as she became all too aware of the heavy shadow above her head. Glancing up, it was then that she realised that she had missed quite a bit during her stay in the tea house - instead of the usual company the city kept...it had gained a rather familiar dragon.

"...It is starting." Aversham mused softly, turning his gaze up towards the dragon almost knowingly.

"Indeed." The Geisha agreed as she continued to walk towards the small group of people assembled beneath the dragons head - just as the amber eyes flicked towards her wandering form expectantly.

Glancing from side to side, almost embarrassed by the amount of flickering eyes staring at the group of new arrivals, Mirror pulled the sides of his mouth into a frown. As the people began to gather and stare at the massive dragon, Mirror floated backwards uneasily. Huge crowds were usually something this Al Sylian could deal with. In fact, he would of loved to perform for them and warm their hearts ...

" ... But my heart is too numb to warm others," Mirror whispered aloud, unknowing of the words that slipped from his phantom lips.

From the crowd, a woman, followed by some others, began walking right for them. Mirror glanced once at Roan, trying to discern if he knew what was going on, but Mirror wasn't sure how well he was at reading the faces of dragons. He was good with humans and other such like facial structures, but ... Well, he was looking at her.

Mirror gave a non-existent sigh and tried to straighten his spine. He could at least look somewhat decent in the miserable state he was in.

Subconsciously, the latant Talant of the widow reached out to offer the incorpreal Al Sylian waves of comfort & acceptance simply from picking up on his sorrow. She well knew sorrow and was more empathic than ever to those in its thrall. Sensors set to catch any activity that stirred within Trelweny the GaiaCom arched one finely shaped eyebrow but did not comment. Not on that. "I trust you have more to wear than that in your bag."

Blinking, conscious mind on the sights around her the human nodded. "Yeah. Always have spares. All weathers." She was more than a little surprised to see an almost familiar sight of flame-hued feathers nearing from within the city. The phoenix and his companion that sang in Durem? Why would they be here, now? & How did they get here before us, when we rode a dragon? Unless they did too?

Gratefully climbing off of Roan's back, Shade would have been delighted to note that he'd managed to keep down his last meal this time around, except that he was still so quesasy from the flight here that he was in really no mood to celebrate.

~What a despicable town--definately not worth the trip here. Hopefully the cloister will be more...rewarding.~

Regaining his composure, Shade straightened at the sight of the crowd. No doubt a few were here to goggle at Roan's monstrous form, but he was sure that most were drawn to him, simply amazed by his awesome presence. This was satisfying to know, but reminding himself that he was here incognito, he stood silently, not acknowledging the crowd of potential minions for the time being.

"I see they have been delivered unharmed," The geisha voiced at last, drawing near and fully audible in the silence that had followed Roan's arrival. It had been quite the spectacle and those of a superstitious nature dared not to move in the presence of a dragon. That being said, the Geisha had no such issues and raised a delicate brow at the manner of those he had chosen to bring.

"Reasonably unharmed." Roan agreed, shifting his amber eyes towards the woman as his form began to emit a dull glow. aid glow grew much brighter until at last his form began to shrink and in its place, a half draconic form could be seen. Still taller than the average man, the platinum wings remained upon his back and his legs were still in the shape of talons but from the torso up he seemed...reasonably human.

He had his reasons, he needed to arch a brow too.

"Save the small one," Hayaharu's gaze shifted towards Mirror for a few moments and then to the rest of the group that had chosen to accompany him. The mother now appeared to be without her child but the rest remained unchanged. "Welcome to the Merchant Gates, you made quite the entrance."

"Would you rather I had knocked?" Roan enquired, folding his arms across his chest in an almost defiant manner.

"Haha." The Geisha replied flatly.

As Hayaharu let her gaze glide along Mirror's poor mockery of existence, he felt somewhat disheartened as if he done something wrong. Well, techniqually, he did. It was because of him that his soul wandered without a firm material casing, it was his mistake that led to this.

Mirror was about to venture more about and within his dreary thoughts, but his attention was effectively snagged by the sudden change and shrinkage of Roan. Now standing nearby to him on claws with arms crossed and brow lifted, Roan had become another two legged being just like the rest of them. To Mirror, this change was always amazing and interesting to watch, so he found himself somewhat transfixed on Roan's being.

After they exchanged a few words of greeting, Mirror broke away from Roan and glanced between the two figures. It took him a moment to speak up with his echo of a voice, "Roan?" he asked tentatively, "Who's this? Where's the cloister?"

As Roan shifted Trel started a bit. It was one thing to know such things were possible -another all together to actually witness it. Beside her, the GaiaCom remained unphased. Trelweny let out a small, embarrassed laugh then returned to keeping her eyes and mind open, tying to determine what good she might offer on this venture. Not to mention figure out anything about those that it appeared might be involved.

The human woman gave a small curtsy... not really sure what to do & still a bit alarmed at the dragon's actual transformation. Myranda fixed the geisha with an ambivalent glance then herself nodded a greeting. She almost gave a snide comment at the Al Sylian's question but with a glance to Trelweny remained quiet.

"This would be Hayaharu, she was a somewhat temporary fixture at the Tavern," Roan replied smoothly, continuing to stare down the otherwise proud Geisha until she looked away ever so slightly. It was a well known fact that it was not the place of any geisha to show disrespect - well, she wasn't to show disrespect unless someone else did it to her first. As of yet, Roan had done nothing out of the ordinary (except talk more).

"Indeed, you could say I am a native in these parts," which was no word of a lie given that her looks and accent alone would be enough to confirm she came from the main city. The lush kimonos she chose to wear, the particular manner in which her head piece sat atop her head. Nothing was out of place regardless of the length of time she might have chosen to travel - quite the feat if she wasn't so bold as to claim!

"The only one capable of making sure you can get inside Shoichi," she added after a few moments, offering a bemused smile at the startled expressions of a number of individuals. Apparently, like her there were just some things they had never dreamed of being able to see - a humanoid form of a dragon was most definitely one of them...At least they hadn't reacted like she had in the past, given the nature of her up bringing and the traditional myths surrounding dragons in these parts.

"Indeed," Roan made no attempt to disagree and instead he shifted his amber gaze towards the small party he had escorted safely to the Merchant Gates. All in all they were in reasonably good condition and had it not been for the minor slip up they might have been alright! Fate could be cruel sometimes, very cruel. "The cloister you seek towers high above your head in the Libern Range, it will be visible as we draw closer to the Imperial City."

"More often than not it is covered in cloud, but the shadows cast upon the Imperial City make it's existence apparent," the Geisha confirmed as she thought of the Range, she had always looked upon it with great distaste, especially given the disturbances that had rocked the city and forced the Emperor to react so drastically. "That being said, the journey to the Imperial City must be by foot or carriage...there are not trains from this point on wards."

"Mhm..." Was all the man could muster in reply.

"How long will it take to go by foot?" asked the ghostly Al Sylian, following the giesha's glance to where the fabled city must be hidden behind the obscuring clouds. Another journey, at first Mirror had thought that this journey would be over after they reached this city but there was still another road to thread. Mirror sighed. His hopes seemed to continue getting pushed away and with it, his physical body. Sadly he thought what would happen if...if he never got his body back. Would he stay like this forever? Would he never be able to rest?

Mirror felt his ethereal shoulders shudder in a shake and he tried to keep his gaze strongly pinned onto Roan and Hayaharu.
