I'm an atheist, and I accept that other people have other beliefs. In fact, one of my favorite teachers is a pastor, and her student-teacher is a youth pastor. The only thing I don't like is the people trying to force others to believe what they believe. When I'm just peacefully sitting there, minding my own business, reading a book, doing classwork, whatever, I don't want to be confronted about my faith ( or lack thereof ).

As for experiences, there are many instances where I or my friends have been verbally attacked about our beliefs. I live in a small, southern town that is in the record books for having the highest concentration of churches in one place. One would think that it would be a pleasant place to live, because Christianity promotes goodwill and all that.
Despite that, one of my close girl friends was invited to a church to watch another of my friends dance, but soon after the dancing, they were berating her about her lack of faith in God. She was driven to tears and ran crying from the church. Another friend of mine was driven from a church in a similar way for having fairies on her earrings. O.o;
For a short period of time, there were articles in the newspapers that listed students who didn't believe in God or dressed in black as vampires. I managed to avoid being on the list, but 3 of my close friends were named.
I once got asked why I didn't believe by a teacher and a student together. When I tried to explain, they just jumped down my throat about how I was going to Hell. Don't get me wrong, I am friends with a lot of very nice Christian people, but then there are those that don't act very Christian to me. Perhaps its just the southern breeding coming out of them, who knows?

Anyway, I don't really have a problem with the religion or people who practice it. I only have a problem with those that judge and tell who is and is not going to hell and those that try to force it on others.

There are quite a few good Christians out there. My main problem anymore is just that i have serious questions about some things in the bible, yet when i ask them i am ridiculed or ignored. I have tried asking average people who consider themselves Christians, and i have asked pastors/preachers/priests.

I think the bible is contradictory, and i have been trying to have a real discussion to figure some things out for half of my life. Yet, it seems "Christians" never want to talk if you question what they believe. Maybe i have just had bad luck.

The Christain religion would be viewed as a peaceful, loving, tolerant religion if the mainstream "Christains" actally knew their Bible and what it really is saying. These "Christains" give the Christain religion a bad name! Its sickening! I aperintly understand more about what the Bible is saying than a chruch leader that has read the bible 100 times. gonk

I know exactly what your saying, just the other day I was asked why I'm not christian by some bible thumper. When I started quoting passages to support my theory that most christians don't know what their talking about, he spent about 2 minutes trying to prove me wrong and saying that I had no idea what I was talking about even though he was looking at what I was quoting.

Afterwards, whil;e he was staring at me in shock, I pulled out my "wand", tapped him on the head, and told him "the power of Christ compels ye!!!!"

The look on his face was priceless, so my sister made sure to get a picture, but it might be a while until I get it

Well, I used to be christian for 11 years, going to church every sunday, youth activies every wednesday, the dances on saturday, and even seminary every morning before school. I stopped about 4 years ago (but thats another story) but I still respect them for the most part. Yes I have been wrongfully judged many times since I stopped, and there are many who claim to be christian, who act nothing like it, and furthermore I believe there are lots of non christians out there who act more christ-like than many christians. With all that aside I don't 'hate' or even dislike them. I feel that there is no religion that can work for everyone, but so long as it makes you happy, helps you help others, and help make you a better person, it's the right religion for you. On top of that there's nothing wrong with the religion, just some of the people following it. So I guess in summary, I believe most religions out there are right (except for.. 3 I think) for someone, but none of them is right for everyone.

Christians, in my opinion, are annoying because it is in their religion to try and bug everyone else into Christianity. Please leave other people alone? Frankly it is none of your business if we go to Hell or not, save yourself and let us worry about our own skins. Also, they are so negative concerning every other religion. This "our way or Hell" mentality is just so unappealing. Their views restrict other ways of life and have rules that are too strict to be open-minded and enlightened. How can you be enlightened when everything is being told to you? I am not sheep, I do not need a shepard. *pant* That's all for now, I might come back later.

I personally have nothing against any specific religion,. only the fanatics who believe it is their job to force their beliefs on anyone they come across. I personally follow a system of beliefs that mixes Catholicism and Paganism, but I keep what I follow to myself unless someone asks me or wishes for an explanation.

A likely reason for the large amount of discrimination against Christians is because it is one of the biggest religions in the world, and as such, likely has more than it's share of overbearing fanatics.

That, and it has probably the worst history of any major religion. What with the wars, persecutions and scandals.

I'm a christian, and I do believe what the bible says- that if you dont accept Jesus then you will go to Hell. but I won't force it on people,I may invite them to my church if I think they would enjoy what we are doing that week, but its their decision and its not my job to push them to anything 3nodding

by birth i'm Jewish but i don't believe in that and will convert to what i believe in ,Christianity, when i'm 18. if i die before that, will i go to Hell?all my friends know that i don't follow Judiasm and will convert so I can finnaly go to Church and pray...

Christianity is the largest branch of all major types of religions...i myself am a Baptist Christian...but i am also quite open minded to others...i will not shun someone out because they dont believe the same as me...and i think alot of people think im Santanic because i always look creepy and never talk about church as much as i should probably around others ninja and probably cuss too much and may seem ALOT less Christian around others and be a bad influence...but...I HAVE A PROBLEM OK?! xd

I feel many people are too hard on Christians (I myself am not one, but I regularly see people abuse Christians).

Yes, the Crusades and Witch-hunts killed 10 million people over the course of 800 years, and yes, they were started by Christians.

Mao Ze Dong's (an atheist) "cultural cleansing" killed 100 million people over the course of about 25 years.

I'm not saying that atheism is wrong, but I think it's a little biased to say that Christians are fanatic. There are fanatics in every organization, religious or otherwise.

I am okay with Christianity I just don't like when certain people who call themselves Christians or other groups twist what the bible says to discriminate against other people.

you sound like an ex-mormon. :]
because only we use seminary to mean "really early bible study before school."

yes, even though people are too dumb and ignorant to realize it, mormons are christian, i've been one ever since i was born, but now beginning to realize that it's pretty much stupid bullshit from what they're teaching me, personally. yes, i've gone to church pretty much every sunday for the 16 years of my life, youth activites every tuesday, seminary every morning.

i've come to realize that i don't need to really listen to all of it, and they're just trying to brainwash us all into zombie-like things.

i, personally, will not force my old religion on you, since i am now an atheist to pretty much everyone except church people and my family, since my dad would kill me if he found out,
and for the fact that i'm bisexual, for that matter, but anyway, if you don't force your religion on me, i will do the same towards you.

and for the most part, many of the other christians i've met are really nasty and hateful towards me. i still wonder why i even tried to be friends with them in the first place.

at least i don't live in the south where it's even worse. i cannot stand being told that i'm going to hell, etc, etc, etc.

I must say, I have a bit of a grudge against Christians. I grew up in a very conservative town, and was harassed by bible-wielding Christians about being atheist for much of my life. That said, my girlfriend is Christian (Catholic), so obviously I don't mind all of them that much razz
