I Never: Part Two Lauren Granger: Lauren shuffled her way over to Nita, she had the sudden inclination to tell the truth, kneeling down next to the girl, "Um... I'm not really a lab tech." She rubbed her hands through her hair, "Or... Moreau's daughter." Zachary Bloodstone: His tail curled behind him a little in response to the name. "I, uh... I never... had more than one relationship." Lauren Granger: She looked up at her, as if this apology was the most profond thing ever. Lauren Granger: Lauren Antoinette Devereux: Surprisingly, Antony didn't drink either. Ambrose Maurlias: "Define relationship" Ambrose held up a finger. Ambrose Maurlias: "Dating count? Or like... relationship relationship?" Antoinette Devereux: "Actually refering to one as your boyfriend slash girlfriend." William Woodrow: Billy tried to drain his bottle befor he caught sight of Joli. Somehow, through the scales and recent changes, Billy recognized the once human underneith, "YOU!" Zachary Bloodstone: He shrugged. "Going by my definition? Just dating." Zachary Bloodstone: He looked over at Joliette. "Um, if you have had more than one relationship, take a drink." Ambrose Maurlias: "Gotcha." Ambrose grinned and left his drink alone. Rex Vadnais: Rex sat there with the new beer in front of him, unopened. Only Julie... Nita MacNeal: Nita turned to Lauren, hiding a smile. It seemed the girl was a bit drunk. "I know," she said simply. "It's okay though." Ambrose Maurlias: "Er...." He hesitated, and then picked it up again, dithering. Finally, he took a small sip. Lauren Granger: Lauren's ear then perked up, she supposed both Skull and Fire COULD be counted as a relationship. She took a swig. "Ah... missed by one." Avery Calder: Avery took a sip of his drink, grinning. Joliette Rigiel: "Oh ok..." she'd not.. And she nearly jumped out of her scales at the sudden proclaimation from Billy William Woodrow: Billy suddenly crawled across the sand towards the lizard girl, taking a hold of her shirt in a tight fist, "Y'go' somethin' o' mine! I been lookin' an' tha's wha' pyroth said an' I want it back!" He hissed quietly in her ear. Antoinette Devereux: Antony took a long drag of her smoke and immediately grabbed the back of Billy's shirt, yanking him forcefully back. Lauren Granger: Lauren shook her head, "NO! It's NOT okay. I'm a ******** lier, but but but I can't stop." She looked at Nita sadly, leaning onto her a bit. Nita MacNeal: Nita sighed and grabbed Lauren's hand, trying to calm her down. William Woodrow: Billy pulled back again desperatly, though, "Please! Please, Love, I'll make i' up t'ye! I'm in number t'irty t'ree, love!" Joliette Rigiel: Joliette leaned back and used a clawed hand to push his chest, "No idea what you mean" Nita MacNeal: "Well then, I forgive you for lying to me." The girl seemed really distraught... even if it was prompted by the alcohol she'd consumed. Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose shifted uncomfortably in his seat, eying William hesitantly, remembering what he learned in the Truth or Dare session about the man. Rex Vadnais: Rex Helped Antony, bringing Billy back from his pleading forcefully. Angelina Swanson: Angelina took a sip silently, watching the goings-ons. Antoinette Devereux: As much as she'd like to see Godzilla get beaten, she dragged him back, leaning into his ear, "Behave or Aubrey may take the other one." William Woodrow: "Y'feckin' b***h," Billy snarled, trying to struggle free, "Y'took it! I know y'did, Gel'! I know y'did!" Zachary Bloodstone: Zach put his drink down to free his hand just in case. Through the slight new haze of the alcohol, he had difficulty trying to understand Billy's actions but wasn't prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. He didn't want to see the komodo-girl throttled. Lauren Granger: Lauren was distracted by what was happening, looking at the fight blankly. She then turned noticing her hand was in Nita's. "You're really nice." She purred a bit holding onto her hand. The mongoose loved to cuddle. And the drunk mongoose knew no social boundries Avery Calder: Avery felt suddenly uncomfortable, things seemed to be getting a bit out of hand with some people, and he was sure he didn't want to be around Zach when he got drunk, either, if he did. "Er, I think I'm gonna head back for a while, see if I can maybe find Tim... I'll come back later," he said, but in truth he wasn't sure if he would come back. He stood up, taking a moment to make sure he wouldn't fall right right over, and then waved before he went back to the duplexes. Nita MacNeal: "I try," Nita said quietly, glaring at Billy. What was he yelling about this time? Ambrose Maurlias: "Later, Avery" Ambrose waved widely Joliette Rigiel: Joliette fought to control herself and backed away from Billy Lauren Granger: "Bye Playboy!" Lauren waved at Avery. Antoinette Devereux: She glanced up at Rex before sighing at Billy, "******** aye... I'll bloody check it out, I think it's time for sleep..." Rex Vadnais: Rex waved goodbye to Avery and hoped that the game would get back on track. Who knew what happened when a bunch of animal people got drunk... William Woodrow: "Thirty three, jes' drop i' off, I won' tell anyone!" Billy was still pleading, not caring who heard at this point, "I'll e'en take ba' wha' I said abou' ye!" Rex Vadnais: "You too? Okay then, good night, Antony!" He smiled and waved, happy that she was able to be coaxed outside with her new change. He knew she felt insecure about it... Antoinette Devereux: As an afterthought, she stood up, pulling Billy with her before pushing him towards the duplexes. "Go Billy." Joliette Rigiel: She stared at him and blinked trying to think what on earth he was talking about Antoinette Devereux: "No not me Rex, and Joli... You have his stash." Avery Calder has left the room. William Woodrow: "I aint feckin' tired!" He snapped back, but ultimatly was bullied back towards his duplex, groaning and mumbling as he made his way bleerily. Joliette Rigiel: Stash... then it clicked "That was yours?? it was under a bush..." she'd have to talk about it to David later Rex Vadnais: "oh, I see... well never mind!" He smiled and watched Billy stumble away to the duplexes... he could be really creepy sometimes.. Antoinette Devereux: Antony rolled her eyes and sat back down, watching him leave before looking over to Joli, "Flush it down the toilet. Period." Joliette Rigiel: "Uh it's in the back of it..." she said after he was gone... "Uhm so uh what were we doing here?" Angelina Swanson: Angelina leaned towards Ambrose, "should we go?" Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose gave a look of distaste at the mention. " hard drugs?" He shook his head, fur ruffling. "That's the last thing we need people like him on. There are enough problems with islanders going batshit crazy." Ambrose looked to Angelina with a shrug. The game seemed to be dying... Lauren Granger: Lauren watched, "Too much! NO BAD!" She pointed a finger at Billy as he left, "Calm down!" Then proceeded to cling onto Nita, not really knowing what she was doing at this point. Antoinette Devereux: "I think it's Zachypoo's turn." Ambrose Maurlias: "Zachary went... the more than one relationship." Nita MacNeal: "Oh, I think it's my turn then," Nita spoke up, still trying to calm Lauren down. Antoinette Devereux: "Oh yeah... I forgot 'cause I actually didn't drink." Nita MacNeal: "So.. I've never been drunk enough to be hung over the next day." Antoinette Devereux: "Speaking of..." She smiled slightly before taking a drink. Lauren Granger: Lauren sipped a little, not wanting to back off of the game. Joliette Rigiel: Joliette thought about this one "Don't think I've ever been drunk at all" Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose sighed overdramatically. "Not till the island." He drinks. Rex Vadnais: Rex didn't drink, this time. he was pretty dang close to it a few times around the death of his fiance. though if there was one thing his parents were good for, it was the fact that they gave him knowledge about how bad things like drugs and alcohol can be. he didn't drink... Nita MacNeal: Nita grinned, wondering how many people would be able to say that after tonight. Zachary Bloodstone: Zach took a sip, glad that Avery had left already. Joliette Rigiel: "You seem to have turns, so uh who's is it?" Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose gave her a more-than-tipsy Wolfish grin. "You're next in the circle." Joliette Rigiel: "I guess I am..." she didn't know what had been done before she arrived and thought "I never... moved out ... away from my parents" Angelina Swanson: "Willingly, I presume?" Joliette Rigiel: "yeah, less bills" Joli nodded Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose looked confused, cocked his head, and took a drink. Lauren Granger: Lauren didn't drink out of technicality. She did say parent(s) plural. Antoinette Devereux: The squirrel woman took a drink. Nita MacNeal: Nita took a drink. She'd been in the dorms for two years, and had moved back with her parents, but still. She'd been out for a while! Joliette Rigiel: Joliette looked a lil sheepish as she got comfortable again Zachary Bloodstone: Zach took a drink. The moment his college acceptance letters had beckoned he'd left his family in a hurry. Rex Vadnais: Rex drank again, his mind was relaxed and clouded. "It wasn't exactly willingly... but i sure did move out..." Angelina Swanson: Angelina finally finished her bottle. "Hand me another, baby?" Ambrose Maurlias: "You were... a photographer, right?" He was surprised, but crawled over and got a pair of drinks - for him and ANgelina, tossing his empty one away. This time, however, he got something a little less strong, but enough to keep him tipsy Joliette Rigiel: "Yes, and journalist" she confirms Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose paused. "Ohyeah! My turn!" Antoinette Devereux: "Drunk again Ambrose?" She grinned lightly before running a hand to mess up her hair. Ambrose Maurlias: He scratched his chin "I've never... been given the 'introduction' sphiel." He grinned, having been the first islander there, and the first to change. Ambrose Maurlias: "I'm not drunk!" Ambrose protested unconvincingly. Nita MacNeal: Nita raised a brow and took a drink. Joliette Rigiel: "Oh boy..." She chuckles and looks around the circle and takes a sip, she remembered Amaya telling her Rex Vadnais: "Bah, you gave me the introduction, Ambrose!" Rex proclaimed loudly, drinking once again. Antoinette Devereux: Antony took a drink and raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. Lauren Granger: Lauren looked puzzled, "Intro-duction Sphiel?" She stared blankly at Ambrose. Angelina Swanson: Angelina popped the cap off her bottom and took a thoughtful drink. Zachary Bloodstone: He looked a little nervously between squirrel-woman and then Joliette at this, taking another sip. Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose grinned at Rex. "Damnstraight." "The 'what's going on, and we're being turned into animals, and all that'" He said back to Lauren. Angelina Swanson: "I've never...." Angelina looked around the crowd. "Met my father." Lauren Granger: "Oh!" Lauren perked up, taking another swig, "Yeah, Moreau told me." Nita MacNeal: Nita glanced at Lauren, who'd been the very first changed islander she'd met-- even if she had lied and said she was a labtech herself. Ambrose Maurlias: "Also not fair." Ambrose said to Angelina, taking the top off of his hard cider bottle and swigging. Antoinette Devereux: Her eyes darkened and she took a long drink, eyes looking out towards the waves. Joliette Rigiel: Joliette certainly knew her papa and took a sip, though it tasted a lil funny to her Rex Vadnais: Rex drank to Angelina's turn, wishing that he had the luxury of not meeting his father. Angelina Swanson: "What's not fair," she said, sticking her tongue out. "You're father was an a**, but at least you knew who he was." Nita MacNeal: Nita bit her lip and took a drink.. Damn, damn, damn, don't think about your parents!Lauren Granger: And then right after that, another drink. "Wish I didn't know the b*****d. I want him to rot in hell!" She started to worry a bit. "I'm drunk, but I'm not like him." Her orange eyes looked worried at poor Nita, Lauren's anchor. Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose nodded heavily. "Sounds like a lot of us have something in common." He responded to the dark looks and not so subtle declaration of Lauren. Rex Vadnais: "I sense a little tension between everyone and their parents here.." Rex mumbled, only knowing a few of the stories... Zachary Bloodstone: Zach took another sip idly, realizing he'd drained the bottle at this point. He hadn't expected to drink as much as he had. He wandered over to get a new beer. Angelina Swanson: Angelina mumbled, "Mr. Muarlias isn't that bad." Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose snorted. Antoinette Devereux: "I loved my father," Antony sneered to Ambrose. Clearly the look was not because he was a bad father. William Woodrow has left the room. Ambrose Maurlias: "I did too." Ambrose's ears lowered. "The feeling wasn't mutual." Antoinette Devereux: "Well it was for me." Angelina Swanson: "He loved you!" Angelina said, teasing. "He just loved your brother more." Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose mumbled something into his bottle incoherently. Lauren Granger: "I loved him once" Her eyes stared coldly at the fire, "Then he changed..." Rex Vadnais: "Well at least someone does, eh?" Rex laughed, corking his beer in the sand since it was his turn. He mulled over what he'd say for a few moments. Angelina Swanson: "He misses you," Angelina said with a nod, "Whether you want to admit it or not." Joliette Rigiel: Joliette watched the exchange her tongue flickered, she didn't want to say anything upset either Nita MacNeal: Nita patted Lauren's hand again. "I'm sure you're not like him," she reassured the younger girl. Ambrose Maurlias: He shrugged, but didn't comment further. In Ambrose's mind, especially slightly liquor-soaked, his father was likely glad to have him finally out of his hair. Rex Vadnais: "Hmm, here's one. I never had the choice to come to the island." He was washed a shore, but wasn't tricked or something similar like many of the others here with him. Nita MacNeal: Nita winced and took a sip. Joliette Rigiel: "Uh is that a technicality? I went looking for smomeone but didn't come here on purpose..." she wasn't sure to drink or not Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose frowned, but drunk. Angelina Swanson: Angelina took a long sip. "I basically begged to come. Didn't know the catch, of course...." She looked to Ambrose, "Though I would have, anyways." Lauren Granger: Lauren joined in trying to sip but realised her bottle was full. She pulled herself up and fumbled to the cooler, getting yet another beer. Antoinette Devereux: Antony frowned, growing silent as she took another drink of her beer. If her father hadn't entered her in that damn raffle. Zachary Bloodstone: Zach opened his beer right before Rex spoke. Dejectedly, he took a very long drink. Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose gave Angelina a small, but sincere smile Rex Vadnais: "Wow.. I'm the only one then..." He shuffled his feet through the sand and ran his finger along the rim of his bottle. Angelina Swanson: "Your turn, Antony." Joliette Rigiel: "Depends" Joli looked at rex Antoinette Devereux: Snuffing her smoke out in the sand, she thought for a moment. Rex Vadnais: "Depends? How so?" Rex inquired, he hardly knew a thing about everyone here except for Antony and Zach. He knew some about Lauren, though not much... Joliette Rigiel: "I went looking for Vasile, but I stumbled upon the isle.. though I did come ashore, so I dont know whether to drink or not" she explains Angelina Swanson: "I'm sure Vasile was flattered." Joliette Rigiel: "Flattered, uhm wel I was gonna expose a fake death" she looks a lil sheepish Rex Vadnais: "You came on your own will then? i think thats one to drink to." He grinned with pointed fangs as the flames danced in his blue eyes. Joliette Rigiel: Joli shrugs "ok" she takes a sip Angelina Swanson: "Well, you almost got the story of a lifetime." Joliette Rigiel: "Yeh, if I turned tail instead of coming ashore..." she shakes her head and sighs Rex Vadnais: "Not to mention she was right about it!" Rex added, pulling what he could from the conversation. Ambrose Maurlias: "If they would have let you go." Ambrose pointed out. "So you don't have to kick yourself.." Antoinette Devereux: "I never lost my arm," she finally said, determining Zach wasn't drunk enough. Joliette Rigiel: Joliette was about to reply but stopped hearing antony and blinked looking at Zach Rex Vadnais: Rex laughed out loud and didn't drink. Antoinette Devereux: "For the fur comment Zach." Lauren Granger: Lauren came back, stumbling towards back towards Nita humming some loud punk music to herself. She couldn't drink to the next comment. Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose chuckled. "Knock on wood." Angelina Swanson: Angelina smirked and set her bottle in the sand. Angelina Swanson: "Wonder if Billy's would count if he was here." Joliette Rigiel: Joliette laughed at that thought Ambrose Maurlias: "You... going to be okay with him, Joli..?" Ambrose asked tentatively. "He seemed rather.... irate..." Antoinette Devereux: "A ball isn't an arm... By the way." Zachary Bloodstone: "Ha, ha," he mumbled, his voice a little slurred. He took another deep drink and his yellow eyes settled on Antony. "Wasn't for you..." Ambrose Maurlias: "But didn't he lose a ... tentacle?" Angelina Swanson: Angelina blinked. "But a tentacle kind of is." Ambrose Maurlias: "Is that an arm?" Antoinette Devereux: "Well... They don't have bones or fingers..." Lauren Granger: Lauren laughed, "TESTICALE! He doesn't have his BALLS!" She snorted landing on Nita. Joliette Rigiel: "Aye? uhm yeah well I kinda dug claws into him before, and that was before this... change" she tells ambrose Antoinette Devereux: She shrugged, shifting so her tails were more comfortable, eyeing Lauren, "Old news girlie." Ambrose Maurlias: Ambrose winced, nodding, shifting again at the balls mention, and looked over to Joli, more appraisingly of her changes. Angelina Swanson: "He has one left, so I've heard," Angelina said to Lauren with a laugh Rex Vadnais: Rex blinked, confused. Then burst out loudly "HE LOST A BALL?! HOLY COW! The poor guy..." He nearly fell into the fire laughing. Nita MacNeal: "Oof!" Nita sputtered as Lauren's bony form landed on her. "Hey, now, should we get you some water or something?" Joliette Rigiel: Joliette stared at hte others "Really?" Antoinette Devereux: "Aubrey took it," Antony explained, figuring Lauren would blabber all about how he lost it anyways. Nita MacNeal: Her head jerked up as she fully realized the implications of the current conversation. Ugh. She didn't want to think about Billy's anything, missing or not. Joliette Rigiel: Joliette winced, sure she wasn't a guy... but still Lauren Granger: Lauren looked up at Nita, "One ball.. he only has ONE!" She laughed getting up. A hope crossed her drunk mind. "Yeah... waaater." Lauren laughed again. Nita MacNeal: Nita nodded and pulled herself to her feet. "Sorry to duck out on you guys, but..." She gestured to Lauren. The situation was pretty self-explanatory. Ambrose Maurlias: "Whose turn is it?" Ambrsoe asked, eager to switch topics away from removed testicles. Joliette Rigiel: "Whoever is after Antony" Joliette rplies Antoinette Devereux: "Thanks Einstein," Antony mumbled to Joli under her breath. Lauren Granger: Lauren smiled wryly at Nita, "Yeah, sorry guys." She tried her best to look sexy, but only appeared really drunk. Joliette Rigiel: JOliette doesn't hear and thus just looks around Ambrose Maurlias: "That would be Nita." Nita MacNeal: "No, I'm getting Lauren out of here for a bit." Ambrose Maurlias: "Then... Joli!" Rex Vadnais: "Aww, both of you are leaving?" Rex whined, not wanting the party to drop so small... Joliette Rigiel: "Bye Nita and Lauren" she says and hearing Ambrosses' words taps a claw on her chin "I've never... met Moreau" ...

The Antics of a Drunken Mongoose Nita MacNeal Nita hauled Lauren away from the group, grabbing a water bottle from a cooler on the way. Even though the girl towered over her and stumbled, Nita was able to support her enough to get her a few hundred yards down the beach. Without too much effort, Nita got the inebriated Lauren to sit down. She pulled the top off of the water bottle and handed it to her. "Here. Drink some of this. It's not good for you to be like this." Nita's voice was full of concern for the younger girl. Even if Lauren had lied to her, she'd apologized... and it just wasn't in her to ignore that. Lauren Granger Wooo beach, the beach was fun! And everything feels soo good! Lauren was thinking as she stumbled down the beach, carried off by Nita. "Niiitah, you are so NICE!" She said happily. Lauren looked up at Nita grabbing the water, "Thank YOU!" She replied as she took the water, drinking the bottle quickly. "Mmm, water... gooood." She started laughing at this, like it was the funniest thing in the world. "No, not good I don't drink." She tugged at Nita's hand, "Really, I DOOON'T. Just didn't want to look baaaadah." She took another giant swig of water. Nita MacNeal Nita nodded slightly, trying to exude calm and control. "It's okay, Lauren. We just need to get you a bit sobered up." She patted Lauren's furry hand. "And I do try to be nice." She couldn't help but smile. At least the mongoose-girl was cheerful, now that she wasn't being all argumentative. Lauren Granger Lauren nodded, "Yeaaah, don't like to drink. DON'T liiike drugs either. Had to do them before or peeople would huurrt me." She looked sadly at Nita for a second, but flipped in her personality. Her attention span was only one second long right now. "You're preeetty." She said as she smiled at Nita. "PREEETY NEEEATAH!!!" Lauren flailed her arms around a bit in a sort of stupid dance as she yelled those words. Nita MacNeal Nita filed away that information to think about later. From her talk with Emelyn, she knew that Lauren's life before the island was.. less than pleasant, but she didn't know much more than that. She ducked as Lauren's arms flailed around. "Hey, hey, you almost whacked me in the face!" Nita grabbed one arm and pointed to the water bottle again. What? I'm pretty? That honestly surprised her, even though she chalked it up to drunken rambling. Lauren Granger Lauren laughed a bit at Nita, "Hah!" She said simply to her. "I waas no wheere near your face." She took a swig of the pointed out water bottle, "I thiiink" She hiccuped in between, "You had too much to DRINK." She kept waving her finger at Nita as if the point were profound and right on the bat. Nita MacNeal Nita was, in fact, barely even buzzed. There were a lot of things she'd never done, so playing "I Never" was not particularly adept at getting her smashed. She hid a grin. "Maybe I did, but you had more than me. Or at least, you're the one falling down," she teased. Lauren Granger Lauren wobbled up, "That game was BIASED to animal people." She took another swig of water, "You're not one yet." She patted Nita on the head. "Why are you soo pretty? I'm NOT pretty." She pouted again. "I'm UGLY." Lauren tried to drink her water again, some not getting into her mouth and getting on the front of her shirt. She didn't seem to mind or notice. Nita MacNeal Nita flinched when Lauren patted her head. She'd had people do that too often in a patronizing way. She was short, she got it! "Oh hush, you're perfectly pretty, Lauren." And the girl was, in an odd way. The horns, alarming at first glance, somehow seemed to suit her. Lauren Granger Lauren looked at Nita, "Not pretty.... but you think I am?!" She looked surprised at Nita. "YAAAY!" Lauren swung around and grabbed Nita in a hug, kissing her on the lips. She kind of caught herself after that, and pulled away. "Oh... sorry." She said to Nita. "Need more water." She tried to down the bottle. "Food?!" She asked Nita. Nita MacNeal "Sure you a-" Nita began, and then was swept up in a hug and.. kissed?? Without even thinking, she kissed back... and Lauren pulled away. "I think some food would be a good idea," Nita said, trying to keep her voice even. "Do you want a hotdog or something? There's a bunch of stuff over on the grill..." She avoided Lauren's eyes, thoroughly confused. Lauren Granger Lauren had been too out of it to notice the kiss back. She wanted food, lots of food. That would help her. "MMmm hotdog or BUGZ!! I like bugs." She smiled back at Nita, forgetting about the kiss all together at this point. Lauren had no clue how much she would be hating herself for getting so drunk in the morning. The hang over would be deadly. Nita MacNeal Nita would remember. "Er, I'll go get you a hotdog, okay?" Hopefully the bun would help soak up the alcohol. "And another water." And if she could stay hydrated, her impending hangover might not be so horrible. She pulled herself up and made for the nearest fire and fixed up a hotdog with a little ketchup and mustard on the side. Lauren could scrape it off if she didn't like it. Returning with the hotdog in one hand, and a water bottle in the other, Nita quipped, "You're on your own for the bugs." Nita flopped down on the sand again and rebraided her hair, which she had actually left down all this time. The familiar motions distracted her mind which was, in typical Nita fashion, over-scrutinizing everything. Lauren Granger Lauren took the hotdog happily, "Thanks!" She shoved the thing into her mouth, her pointed teeth tearing at it fast. She then took a swig of the water. "I don't need them now, just would be nice." Lauren smiled. The alcohol was starting to wear off enough that Lauren could move without wobbling around too much. She started dancing around to the music in her head. "Where you from?" She asked at the end of her dance, just swaying back and forth after that. Nita MacNeal With her long hair neatly confined in its usual braids, Nita felt a lot more like herself. Patting the sand next to her, she asked, "Why don't you have a seat?" It was a bit unnerving staring up at Lauren, who was easily a foot taller than Nita, not to mention swaying back and forth. "I'm from Ohio. Columbus," she elaborated slightly. Lauren Granger Lauren flopped down in the sand right next to Nita, laying her head on the girls shoulder. She didn't think it was a socially bad thing to do, just felt right. Of couse a lot of things felt right while drunk. "Ah so you're a midwesternererer." She replied, "I'm from Oregon, then ran away to L.A." Lauren yawned slightly, her belly wanted more food but it was too comfy to get up. Nita MacNeal Nita adjusted Lauren's head so that she wasn't in any danger of getting an eye poked out by one of the girl's horns, but didn't protest being used as a pillow. "Yeah, I lived there pretty much my whole life," she explained absently. She wondered if she should ask the obvious question. Would Lauren get offended or upset again? Oh well, she'd brought it up herself. "Why did you run away?" she asked simply, staring into the sand. Lauren Granger Lauren looked off at the ocean, it was so nice. The waves were rolling into the tide. This place was paradise for her. It wasn't the prison other islanders had claimed it to be. "My mom died of cancer when I was 15." She was starting to get more lucid, "And my dad, he was alright but... after she died." Her orange eyes grew cold as she pulled her head up and tried to reveal her cigarette burn scars under her fur. She gave up, smiling sadly as they were too covered. "He drank all the time after that, and he turned into a monster. Took all his anger out on me. I was his punching bag. He was a ******** low life scum, after my mom died, he died. He lost his job, sat around drinking and smoking as I worked my a** off to get us food." She looked up at Nita, "Then one day I came home from hanging out with a bunch of friends. I was a little late, he got mad and put his cigarette into my arms." She was saying this with such detachment tears didn't even think to come out. "When he passed out, I took his money, packed my things and ran away. Was the only way out." Nita MacNeal Nita listened silently, watching the waves lapping the shore and digging in the sand with one hand. She let the grains run through her fingers, sanding the soft skin of her palms. "Jesus," she said softly when Lauren was done. "I'm really sorry." Even knowing that little bit explained a lot about Lauren, and why she truly seemed so happy here. Nita reached out and held Lauren's hand. "And that's when you went to L.A.?" Lauren Granger Lauren nodded, squeezing Nita's hand. "Yeah even though sometimes I wonder what was better, the streets or my dad." A small tear fell down Lauren's face. While it was sad recalling her past, Lauren found herself odly comfortable revealing so much to Nita. She wondered if it was the alcohol, or if she was like this around Nita normally. "I'm less drunk now we can go back." She turned to look at Nita, their hands together. Her eyes went down to them as she pulled her hand away. "Heh.." She smiled nervously at the red head. Nita MacNeal Nita squeezed back and wiped the tear away with her thumb, leaving a slight sandy streak on her face. "Oh yeah." Nita had pretty much forgotten all about the party, which seemed to have died down anyway, except for a few people over by the "stage." "Sure, we can go back, if you want." A tiny frown flickered across her face when Lauren pulled her hand away, and was promptly replaced by a more sincere smile. She genuinely liked Lauren, despite her outer defenses. Lauren Granger Lauren nodded, "Yeah, or else I might just fall asleep right here. Not that it would be too bad." She smiled nervously at Nita. Nita seemed very nice, as Lauren had repeated many times in her drunken state. It was just that, Lauren had trouble getting close to people, and now that she realised she was drunk, Lauren didn't trust her own judgement. The mongoose got up from the ground, wipeing the sand off her tail and legs. She reached a hand for Nita to help her up. Nita MacNeal Nita grinned and accepted the help up. She made a few quick passes at her shorts, which would definitely need to be washed. Nita made a mental note to find out about laundry facilities. "It looks like things are wrapping up," she said, looking out towards the platform. "Shall we go see what's going on?" Nita looked up at Lauren, relieved that the girl wasn't nearly as drunk as before, although she still seemed to be feeling the effects of the alcohol. Lauren Granger Lauren nodded, "Yeah... sure." She was getting rather sleepy but hoped that more fun was to be had. The party so far had been very entertaining but the time with Nita seemed to be the most fun part of the evening to Lauren. Nita MacNeal She'd had a pretty good time herself, actually being social for once. And in spite of the early awkwardness with Lauren, she'd enjoyed their couple of hours together, too. The kiss... Well, she would think about that later. "Alrighty." Nita gave Lauren a quick one-armed hug around the waist and headed back towards the party. They approached just as Fiona climbed onto the stage and began to speak...

Fiona Makes a Speech Huffing and sending a parting glare at Awen, Fiona stepped onto the makeshift platform that had been set up, and called for attention. "Everyone, thanks for coming! Before you leave, I have some important things to say."
Once it was obvious people were listening, she continued. "Tonight we have proved a point, even if you can't see it. We are here to have fun, and to show those assholes up in the labs that they aren't in control!"
"They can maul us and cage us and give us claws and fur. They can stick us with needles and treat us like s**t. But we are still human. We are still people!""If your not in control, why can't you just leave?" Lauren shouted out at Fee. "There'll be a day when we will look in the mirror and not see ourselves, but some twisted idea of science! And when that day comes, we will still be ourselves!" She curled a lip disdainfully at LaurenI already see that image in my mirror Fee... Awen thought to herself."And that's when we prove that in the end, we've still won! Because we are people, with names and hearts and minds. They can take away our faces but they can never take those from us!"Lauren laughed up at Fee wondering just what she was trying to prove. Nothing would come of a stupid little speach. "I don't think they are trying to take away our identity. You have it all wrong." Lauren said under her breath. Awen never thought they were truly taking away their humanity. Sabin, even, was helping her feel like a normal human giving her attentions. No. The purpose of this island wasn't to turn the people into animals, through and through. But to do the research and help people eventually with this research. After all... Awen had gotten over her fears with the help. Maybe there were more ways to work this. If they were given time. Maybe they could take care of things without the physical? "What they are doing here is not right! It is not fair and it is not what a single one of us deserves!" She glared out at the ocean, passion building in her voice. "We are people!"
"And we have a strength inside of us which never goes away! A strength which we have to understand and find and use in this time of unfairness, and wrongness! Because we can't let this go on!"Lauren found this whole thing boring. "Is this suppose to be a party or just a chance for you to stand on a stage and yap all night." Lauren said loudly as she stretched. "We are here because we were tricked, deceived, lied to- or in some peoples cases, even kidnapped. And it sucks! It sucks a**! But there's something you can do about it!" Her hands balled into fists at her sides.
"Together we can find a way to stop this... this... insanity! This total bullshit! Because I know, and you know-" freaks like Lauren excepted, Fiona thought, "that it's sick, and twisted, and pointless."Sick and twisted maybe...but not pointless. Not at all. They were making amazing advancements. They were helping people, doing things no other scientist could do. They were making progress and Awen was sure that they would one day put it to good use. There has to be more to this than just tickling Moreau's fancy...right? "And if I stand up here tonight, and am alone in wanting to overthrow these ******** bastards, then I guess I'm alone. But I know I'm not. Because we are humans who feel anger, and hate, and rage, and pain!"
"And if this doesn't deserve your hatred, nothing ever will. Together, we can stop them. Together we can save innocent lives from being destroyed, and put an end to this sick hell!"
"But if I have to fight this war alone, I will. I will never give up!" She fell silent, letting the words echo through the trees and along the wind. "And neither should you."Awen wished she could interject. She wanted to speak the reason now to Fiona, but right now she couldn't. She had to get the girl's trust, but no one could possibly fall for this garbage? The risks were too high.
Hopefully no one would join the bandwagon....so she wouldn't have to say anything more to those the red head was speaking against. She didn't want it to come to telling Sabin more...she liked him but it still felt.. wrong somehow.Lauren rolled her eyes, "Yeah, what the ******** ever." She knew this was pointless and the alcohol made her less angry then usual. In fact, she found it humorous.
Nice, very nice speach, I'm sure it will make SOO much difference. I'm sure that now, everything will be sunshine and daisies for you just because you stood on a platform and said a few words." She said sarcastically. She stepped down from her spot and walked right up to Lauren, staring her in the eye. "Say that again, b***h." She cracked her knuckles, suddenly riled up."Now hold it you two!" She stepped quickly between the red head and the mongoose. "This won't solve anything. Lauren, the girl is trying, alright? And Fiona come on, not everyone will agree with you calm down please." "I didn't really expect a wasted, suck-up lunatic to take my side. But I'm not taking s**t from anyone."She turned and shot a hard look at the girl. "And what good is this doing to the cause? How will fighting with Lauren solve the problem here? Are you out to make people's lives better or are you just out to make yourself feel better? Fighting other islanders will not solve anything. She doesn't like your idea, fine. You don't like her's either. Now just chill, okay?"Nita nodded at Awen gratefully. "Yes, please, we don't need any more fighting. Fee, you said we're supposed to be human, right? Back down, stay calm.. please." "I think everyone would be better off without people like her around. She's probably a spy- gonna run home and tell her little doctor buddies everything that went down." Nita's words, however, nd her tensed hands slowly eased out of their fisted, ready position.seemed to reach her, and her tensed hands slowly eased out of their fisted, ready position.Yes... because pointing fingers always helps matters. Salem witch trials came to Awen's mind....
"Fiona... please. You're not helping the cause by flinging accusations and rude words right back at Lauren.""Besides, we don't anyone to spy... the cameras, remember?" Nita muttered, relieved that Fee, at least, was seeing reason. "I doubt they're everywhere and hear everything. Maybe there aren't really cameras. Maybe the reason they know everything is because the island is full of plants who actually think it'd be fun to change into a freak."
She turned and took a sudden, unpredictable step towards Awen. "Oh will you shut up. I've had just about enough of your high-and-mighty bullshit."Awen didn't back away she stood her ground. "I just don't want anyone to get hurt." "Don't worry," she sneered, "the little chip your good friends the mad scientists stick into the back of my neck will save you."Nita looked back and forth from Awen to Fiona, one a girl she barely knew, but seemed all-together sensible, and a girl who had been a friend, but was really acting obnoxious. "I'm not talking about me." She sighed softly. "I am trying to get you to calm down and think straight before you try something. You are being reckless and accusing people of being spies. Think before you take action, look before you leap and all that. I'm not afraid of you Fiona, I'm afraid for you and all others on this island. I don't want anyone getting seriously hurt trying to escape!"Lauren backed away a bit, really wanting to punch the girl, "If I could, you'd be so dead." Lauren sneered back at the girl. It was frustrating, and being drunk made it even more so.Amid the temper that had boiled up, Fiona suddenly realised what had been missing so desperately that night. Annie. Her sense of judgement, her partner in crime, the logical half of her brain.
Annie would have known just what to do. "What do you want, a ******** apology? If you're so scared for me, next time just don't show up at my things. It'd save me a hell of a lot of trouble." And with that she stormed off.Nita pinched the bridge of her nose. The evening had mostly gone so well...Awen sighed heavily and visibly sagged, her posture now showing her true mood. She was tired of this. Tired off that stubborn fool trying to tell her how things work, how they should all throw themselves at the labs like lemmings to a cliff.
Awen stepped in just to stop the conflict between Lauren and Fiona from turning physical, to prevent hurt. And what does she do? Get her head bitten off.
Animals? Awen was sure Fiona was already well on her way. Letting her mouth go before her mind, acting on reaction alone and not pausing to think of the concequences... Lauren was nearly steaming, she paced back and forth, not quite sure what she wanted to do. "******** YOU!!" She yelled back as she reached for a empty bottle, throwing it towards her as she walked off, completely missing.Hearing Laurend scream and the tail end of the bottle wizzing passed Awen glanced over. "Lauren..." She said softly. The mongoose was still steaming, "I ******** hate that b***h." She said towards Awen. "I just.. can't STAND her" "I know Lauren, I know." Awen said in what she hoped to be calming tones. The tired look gone once again and Awen now put on another mask to help her friend. "She doesn't understand things yet."Nita stood there awkwardly, not sure whether or not she should try to find Fee or just give her time to steam.Awen glanced to Nita and smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry for all of this... I don't think this went just as anyone had planned..."Nita couldn't help but smile. "It certainly wasn't in any of the plans I have written down..!"Lauren felt akward and out of place, "No, that and she's a ******** retard." She said immaturely back towards Awen. "Yeah, ruined her own party." Lauren was oblivious in her role of ruining as well.
Lauren was tired of all of this. "I'm going back to my duplex." She said to Nita and Awen. "See ya later." She waved bye at the other innocent bystanders as she went off the trail back towards the village alone.Awen sighed softly. "Night Lauren." She called back to the departing mongoose. Turning to Nita she gave a weak smile. "I think I'm going for a swim.... my skin is getting itchy. And my head is fuzzy..."Nita nodded and gave a sort of little wave as Lauren left. Mirroring Awen's small smile, Nita said, "Okay, Awen. Take care of yourself... I'll probably wander home myself.""Alright." Awen nods slowly. With a last glance around she moved out of the beach area.

Finally, Someone Who Makes Sense Chana Cohen It had been some days since Chana had last seen Stewart, and she was worried about him. She hadn't dared look too closely at his duplex as she passed, for fear that her care basket was still outside. That would be unbearable.
So she'd come to the cafeteria on the off chance that she might find him here, but instead she'd come upon an empty room. Sighing, she went to get a tray of the freshest greens and fish. Nita MacNeal The beach party two nights previous had wiped Nita out. She hadn't been hung over, but Fiona's speech and the following debacle really put a damper on things. She'd spent the day before in her duplex, not wanting to run into anyone, but now she was hungry. Dressing quickly and dabbing sunscreen on her nose and cheeks, which, despite her fastidious care, were a delightful shade of pink, Nita made her way to the cafeteria. The cafeteria was mostly empty, save for a single woman that Nita hadn't met, and that she hadn't seen at the beach party. Probably a good thing. Once she'd gone though the line, choosing a burger and a small salad, Nita walked over, a bit shy. "Do you mind if I sit down?" Chana Cohen Chana looked up at the unfamiliar voice and scent to see a woman she'd never seen before. "Um...sure. Go ahead," she replied, a bit dumbfounded.
She'd forgotten that the cafeteria wasn't just the easiest place to try to find people, it was also the easiest place to meet people. And now she was here, sharing her lunch with a girl who still looked human that she'd never seen before.
"I'm Chana," she offered, some of her melancholy thoughts seeping into her voice. Nita MacNeal "Thanks." Nita sat across from Chana and poked at her salad with a fork. "Nita," she replied. "I guess you can tell I'm pretty new..." The red-headed girl took a few bites of salad. "At least the food isn't bad," she said lightly. From the look of her, Chana had been here for a while. A beaver, Nita guessed, judging by the prominent front teeth. Chana Cohen "Yeah," she agreed, swallowing another mouthful and berating herself. What was wrong with her? She'd been MVP of her youth group for a reason: she was a people person! And now here she was, dumping her disappointment on some girl who didn't deserve it!
"It's not really that bad," she replied. "It's just mostly the same over time. But it's good enough." She studied her salad, poking the twigs down with her fork so that Nita wouldn't see them. "What do you think of our home thus far?" Nita MacNeal "Eh, it's better than the cafeteria food at school... which was pretty much the same thing over and over." Although BuckYuck had had some pretty good pizza... Nita shrugged the thought away. She looked around the room, pretending to examine it critically. "I do have to admit the duplexes are pretty nice, if a bit boring. The jungle and the beach are really gorgeous though. Not at all like what we've got at home." Nita scratched the side of her nose, which peeled slightly. Ick. Maybe Chana wouldn't notice. She took a few more bites of the salad, which was actually pretty good, with bits of hard-boiled egg in it, just as she liked. Chana Cohen Chana smiled. "Sounds like my camp food." After all, the beef slop only looked regurgitated...
"Well, I suppose if you had posters or pictures you could put them up," she offered, shrugging. Looked like Nita had had a bit much sun...oh well. Chances were it wouldn't matter in the long run. Nita MacNeal "Yeah? What kind of camp was it?" Nita finished her salad methodically and started on her burger. She shrugged. "I didn't really bring much with me. What I really need, though, is some bookshelves. My books are pretty much just lined up against the wall under that intercom thingie." Chana Cohen "A URJ--I mean, UAHC camp," she said, remembering the name change. And she'd been to three of them out of...what was it, thirteen now? Whatever, there were enough of them.
"You could use the intercom to ask for some bookshelves, I bet. The staff seems pretty accomodating in that respect." Though in others they were far from it...Chana just wouldn't mention that as of yet. If Nita wasn't reacting to her appearance, she'd probably had the bad shock somewhere down the line. Chana couldn't imagine that anyone would willingly come here to be a guinea pig. Nita MacNeal "UA-what?" Nita asked, unfamiliar with the acronym. "Heh." She took a few more neat bites of her burger, chewing carefully. "I've heard.. differing opinions regarding the usefulness of the staff. But I was thinking about giving it a shot, asking a few questions and stuff." Like, 'What the heck am I gonna turn into?' and maybe, 'Can I get some noise-cancelling headphones?' she thought, almost amused. Chana Cohen "The old name was the Union for Reform Judaism. Now it's the Union of American Hebrew Congregations," she explained.
That got a smile out of Chana again. "Yeah...there's a number of opinions out there...but they're no replacement for your own." And that was the closest she'd come to saying anything about Lily, she resolved. Just try to give her a fighting chance against prejudice. Nita MacNeal "Ohhh, okay. That clears things up." Nita nodded. She almost said, "Oh, so you're Jewish, then," but figured that was really obvious and possibly a bit rude. "I'd noticed," Nita said drily, in regards to the 'many opinions' remark. Fiona despised the labtechs on general principle, and while Nita tended to agree, what about Lauren? From what she'd learned, the girl really was better off here. It definitely wasn't a clear-cut, black-and-white, good vs. evil kind of situation. "I try to form my own opinions," she said simply, "Even though it's all a bit overwhelming. I suppose it's easier just to hate the staff in general." Chana Cohen Chana nodded. "The important thing to remember is that the staff isn't just a group. It's a group of people, just like us islanders. The instant we forget that these are people is the instant we take away their humanity."
She grimaced and continued. "And just because their taking our humanity away is no reason for us to sink to that level." To offset her little impromptu speech, Chana took a big bite of salad and chewed it pointedly.
Maybe I should write a d'var torah on that or something, she thought. Now I just have to find a good parashat for the subject. Nita MacNeal "That's actually a very good point," Nita replied slowly. She hadn't thought of it quite like that. She added Chana to her mental list of "People Who Make Sense." So far it was a pretty short list. Nita finished her burger and realized she'd never gotten a drink. With a quick 'be right back' motion, she went to the buffet line and grabbed a soda and a couple of cookies for dessert. She sat quietly, chewing thoughtfully. Chana Cohen Chana finished her salad and stood up. "Thanks for listening to my babble," she told Nita as she put her used flatware and silverware in the proper place.
"Maybe we'll talk again some time," she said over her shoulder as she left the cafeteria. "I'm in 26." Nita MacNeal "I'd like that," she said. "And I'm in 42." Nita wrapped the remaining cookie in a napkin. She cleared away her dishes, reclaimed the cookie and her can of soda, and left as well. Maybe now she would actually try that intercom.

"Thank You, Come Again!" Nita paced the room a few times, deliberating. Chana had said the staff could be quite accomadating... and she did have questions. She peered at the intercom, wondering if someone was watching her just then, vainly hoping they might take the initiative and give her a call. Of course, the wall-unit remained silent. Biting her lip nervously, Nita took a deep breath and pushed '0.' Sabin, meanwhile, was sitting back at moniter duty. This time, however, the flair and excitement of watching his 'favorite soap opera' was significantly diminished. He was bitter, frustrated. He wans't here because it's where he wanted to be, he was here because he couldn't be in the lab. HIS lab. With HIS team. Some upstart young woman without even a PhD was watching his underlings. It wasn't fair. It wasn't right. Just because he was working on his own projects. He wasn't detracting from Moreau's research, he wasn't undermining him. He was just... working. He glanced over at the flashing light, and looked over to the camera, where it showed one of the newer subjects - the young woman with the braids. He tapped the connection key. "Dr. Duvert." He replied flatly. The buzz startled Nita, who jumped. "Oh! Um. Hi. This is Nita MacNeal, in 42... I guess you know that. Anyway. Um." She tugged on one of her braids to stop her blathering. "I, ah, had a couple of requests to make," she managed, "And someone told me the staff was usually pretty good about getting things for people. Nita forced herself to calm down, firmly suppressing the butterflies in her stomach. Sabin tapped his long nail on the desk, sighing audibly as his fingers, after a delay, went to the keyboard and brought up her file, his eyes skimming over the relevant information. Can I have this? How about this? Sabin thought bitterly to himself. Other than Awen, that's all they seemed to actually phone about. He'd much rather be watching Jamal's and Pyroth's bloody escapade in the jungle. "Yes yes.... we can be your delivery service." The voice sounded just a tad bitter.Nita blinked, surprised at the tone of his voice. "It's just a couple of things," she said apologetically. Although it's not like I meant to be here for the rest of my life! Figuring she didn't need to stand right in front of the intercom, Nita stepped back a few feet and sat on the bed. "I really could use a set of bookshelves," she continued, "And maybe a nice pair of noise-cancelling headphones? The guy downstairs has a drumset, and... Well, it's really loud." She tried not to whine or sound too pathetic at that last part. The red-head fiddled absently with the hem of her jeans. The sound of clicking nails was heard over the intercom. "Hrmm... you mean there were no bookshelves in your unit? Odd... most of them have them - perhaps they forgot to install them in a few of the later units." He made a note of them on her file, flagging them for order. "Noise canceling headphones... ahh" He responded in regards to the drum. "We'll see what we can get. Although you might also attempt to speak with the man, talk to him about times to play it." A wry smile crossed his mind - it sounded like many of the complaints that his students got when they partied too late, or were in bands. "Shouldn't be an issue.""No, there weren't, and I haven't been in many of the other duplexes to see if they were missing shelves, too." Nita nodded, eyeing the neat row of books under the intercom. There was a perfect spot for the shelves... probably where they were supposed to be. And as for Alec... "Well, I sort of tried talking to him, but last I saw him, he was pretty hung over. And it's not so much that he's playing them late at night, it's that it's awfully hard to concentrate on anything when he gets going." She made a face, relieved that so far her requests would be met. "Well, I'm sure the shelving units can be installed by Friday. We just need to get a maintenance crew out there. As for the headphones, I'll order you up a pair." He said with a bored aire. This is what secretaries were for. Not HIM. He changed the shelf order to a maintenance request - they should have units like that in stock - especially seeing as how damaging some of the other... guests... were.
He propped his chin on his hand after making the notes. Eying the woman in the video display. A pleasant enough person. Cute, but relatively nondescript - she looked like someone who could be one of his students a year ago... it seemed so far away... HE shook his head, breaking that train of thought. "Anything else..?" He was hoping for a diversion... not smalltalk. . Yeah."Thank you," Nita said quietly. She meant it, too, even if the shelves were supposed to be there, and the headphones would be a courtesy. That's how Nita was, though: quiet, unassuming, never meaning to cause trouble. "Actually," she began, the butterflies returning. "I was wondering... Could you tell me what I'm to become?" Nita clasped and unclasped her hands, unsure if she really wanted to know. But she'd asked, for better or for worse. Sabin's mouth took a wry quirk as he glanced at the moniter. Compared to most, she had it good. But that didn't mean that he would have to tell her that... immediately. "Aahhh.... so curiosity finally overcame your reservations, huh?" Sabin mused out loud. "Most people are scared to ask, you know. Frightened that they'll find out they're turning into something horrid... like an insect... or a slug or something... and it will ruin what little time they have left as a human being." The voice had taken on a different note - the French accent diminished slightly, and from bored mostly monosyllabic replies, there was now an interested, toying tone. That toying tone was possibly the creepiest thing she had heard all week. Nita held herself stock-still. Was she about to hear some horrible news? Would she lose her legs like Cass, or end up with far too many tentacles? Billy's parting shot rang in her ears. "I am afraid," she said softly, barely more than a whisper. "But yes, I would like to know. Please," she added belatedly. Nita continued wringing her hands, not even aware of the motions. "What do you think you might become?" Sabin queried further. "I know that it could be anything.... but have you had any pecular food cravings? And.... admittedly, I am surprised. You are the first one to ask before their first change in some time."Nita blinked. She had no idea, and said so. "Not that I'm aware of," she replied, rapidly going through the past three weeks in her mind. At least she surprised the man. The doctors didn't know everything. "My internal clock is a bit screwed up, I think. But that might just be the heat." Nita had been staying up a bit later than she normally would and then sleeping in. However, that could easily be attributed to not having to get up for class. The diatribe was not quite so interesting as Sabin might have hoped. She was being complacent... which, normally, Sabin would have given her credit for - going along with them instead of being contrary like.. Chubbs, Jamal, or those new PETA People. And while Sabin didn't want someone backtalking... he wasn't in the mood for a pleasant conversation either.
With a sigh, he nodded, listening to her. "Well, you might be pleased to know that your luck apparently held out where your animal is concerned. You've been administered the red panda serum." "Red panda?" Nita repeated, not entirely sure how she felt. She had just been informed that she was actually going to be turned into something, and now that "something" had a name. But at least red pandas were cute. Mammals. She didn't know much about them, but they certainly didn't seem too horrible. A brief image of a pointed face and a long ringed tail flashed through her mind. For a moment she even tried to superimpose her own face and figure over that image, but the thought was simply too weird. "I see," she finally said. Gathering her thoughts, she figured she might as well take the opportunity when it presented itself. "When can I expect a change? I mean, is there a standard? Obviously I don't know anything about the.. procedure." "It is variable... depends on how your system is reacting to the initial injection. The time can range anytime from two weeks to four months.""Ah." She supposed that made sense, considering how unpredictable this research must be. If she weren't a subject herself, Nita would have been absolutely fascinated with the whole thing. It was like something out of a science fiction or fantasy novel... In fact, she'd read quite a few books with people who turned into animals. "So it could be any time now," she muttered, more to herself than to the screen. Nita glanced at the calender she'd been making, keeping track of the days in one of her notebooks. "Is there any warning? Or can there be?" "Theoretically. According to your biometrics, however, the first injection hasn't quite taken root yet. As far as warning, generally the second injection is administered as the subject sleeps. However, if things aren't hectic in the labs, sometimes we make exceptions and give someone the option of coming in willingly to get their followup injections." He responded, eyes wandering to the other cameras. "Or we can merely let you know ahead of time if you so choose. But in the past we've seen that the anticipation can be worse than realizing that the change is upon you."Biometrics. So they really were being monitered as much as scientifically possible. That made Nita twitchy. She could usually push the cameras out of her mind, but such a blatant reference reminded her of the days she'd spent in the hospital, under constant surveillance. "Hmm." She was trying to think rationally, weighing the pros and cons. Maybe she should make a list. "I think... I think I need some time to sift through all of this." "Completely understandable." Sabin said, his voice returning to its bored tone."Well, um, thank you for telling me, and the bookshelves and stuff." Nita stood, preparing to hit the disconnect button. "You are welcome. " Sabin was tempted to chime in... ********. "Thank you come again." He said in an irreverant mock accent.Nita's jaw dropped and she hit the button. As soon as she was safely offline (although Dr. Duvert could still see her) she started giggling, only a little bit hysterical. She flopped over onto her bed and muffled the sound with her pillow. "Oh s**t," she mumbled into the fabric. "Oh s**t."

Ariel and the Princess Cheetah Nita MacNeal Prompted by the mention of a decent library, as well as the desire to do some research, Nita went in search of such a place. Finally locating a room with a fair collection of books, as well as an impressive DVD collection, Nita entered. The room was unoccupied, and she scanned the shelves. A book with the title, "Animals of Asia" caught her eye, and she settled herself on the couch to flip through it. Colche "What would I give, if I could live out of these waters." A sweet voice echoed in to the entertainment room followed by a giggle. Se knew full well she didn't live in the water but she liked the song alot. Having discovered the little mermaid she had officially dubbed a few more people and given them names from her 'stories' Billy had oficially become Ursula. She just hadn't had a chance to tell him so yet. She felt a little illusive of late. Wishing to be alone and spending alot of time just reading or watching DVD's her vocabulary had improved immensely because of this and she had collected quite an array of songs in her head. "What would I pay to spend a day warm on the sands, betcha on land they understand, bet they don't reprimand their daughters.." Her song was interrupted though as she entered in to the entertainment room to find a person she didn't know.
Huge innocent blue eyes rested upon the red haired female on the couch. It was her spot to watch dvd's from but she really didn't mind, company was good. "Hulo" she smiled, a perfectly pleasurable grin in fact, sweet innocent and welcoming. It never occured to Colche that she could be construed as dangerous. She was as sweet and innocent as ever, though alot more furry than when she had first come to the island. As usual she was in a good mood, hardly anything could dampen that mood usually, or for that matter keep her down for very long. Nita MacNeal The faint sound of singing met Nita's ears, although she wasn't particularly paying attention, having found the section in her book about red pandas. She looked up as the singer entered the room and jumped slightly. The figure was vaguely familiar... had she seen this person during her first days on the island? They were a bit hazy, those first days, as Nita had pretty much reeled around, stunned. "Hi there," Nita said, trying to remember the girl's name. Her grin was infectious, and Nita found herself grinning back. Colche Colche tilted her head in a cat-like manner. She never really realised she was doing it, it just came naturally. She padded over towards the couch a curious look in those big baby blue eyes "Watcha readin'?" she asked plopping down on the couch beside Nita without a second thought. She liked to read, in fact she loved it but it was always so much more fun to read if somone helped with the words.
Looking down at the page she saw a pretty red black and tan animal and gave a smile. "Purty" she puurred, twitching her tail before looking up at Nita once again, had she met the red head before? She couldn't remember truthfully. "I'm Colche" she stated, just in case. She really couldn't remember there were so many people around now she didn't know everyone. Nita MacNeal Now there was a question Nita was used to answering. "It's a book about animals in Asia," she explained. "One of the doctors said I'm supposed to turn into one of these." Nita pointed at the picture in the book. Colche. That was the girl's name! Nita sort of remembered seeing her on the beach, with Emelyn. "I'm Nita," she said. "I think I met you before, but I wasn't feeling too good at the time." Colche Colche puurred, another wordy person, she caught most of it though, certainly her understanding had greatly improved too. "Sassit?" She looked at the female curiously, she couldn't read from the page, she couldn't really read anything she hadn't read before, or been taught how to read. That didn't make her any less interested.
"Nita" she echoed looking at the page once again with a smile and a lick to her furry lips, her tail tip twitching as usual. "Nice, big..Big book, Col.." she paused, obviously she was mentally thinking of what she was meant to be saying "I no read..good." She looked a little sad at that but pointed at the book any way. "Red" she could read that bit, red was a colour, there were lots of colours. She knew her eyes were blue and her fur was pretty much yellow and black and that her hair was black too. They were things she had gleaned from her books but she couldn't read everything in front of her, she needed a little help still, she had a long way to go. Nita MacNeal "It's called a red panda." Nita flipped a few pages and pointed at a large black and white animal. "And this is a giant panda." She shifted slightly so Colche could see the book more easily. Nita couldn't honestly imagine not being able to read well; books at had been a huge part of her entire life, and once she'd caught on to reading for herself, she had dived into the worlds they opened up for her. "Do you like to read, Colche?" She smiled, freckles prominent on her cheeks. Colche "Red panda" she stated looking at the pages. "Giant panda" she mimicked looking at the words. At Nita's question she gave a vigerous nod though. "Uh huh, like readin' lots, 'n' lots" she grinned broadly showing all of those fangy teeth that could in theory be a dangerous thing but had never become so for the perfectly innocent blue-eyed femme. "Am learning..not..good..soon tho." She smiled. She wondered and had asked Aubrey before if she would ever be like everyone else, if she would be able to speak like them at least. She hoped so but it was hard. Her vocabulary had improved in leaps and bounds since the discovery of DVDs but she was still limited. Nita MacNeal Nita couldn't help but giggle at Colche's answer. She was so cute! "Does someone here teach you? What do you like to read?" Of course, Nita had no idea what had happened to Colche, or why she seemed to be a teenager, but was only learning to read. She wondered how much she could ask without offending, or even if the girl would understand. Colche Colche grinned broadly, she liked to be asked about her stories. "I likes pooh bear, n princesses, n frog prnce..Cinderella an snow whites an sleepin' beauty." She grinned and puurred happily, she loved her stories, she wanted so much to be a princess like Snow White. Aubrey said she was one and the animal she was said she was too. "Col..I'ma princess Cheetah" she giggled, she delighted in informing people of her animal. "I have Leap Pad, it reads, an Aubrey reads too, like stories, lots." She nodded an affirmative her blue eyes grinning in a delighted manner. Nita MacNeal Nita nodded. "Those are lots of good books, Colche. I really liked Winnie the Pooh when I was little." She flipped back to the page about red pandas, skimming through the information idly. "I heard you singing before you came in. 'The Little Mermaid' was one of my favorite movies ever." She smiled and fiddled with the end of one long braid. "A princess cheetah?" she asked, confused. She knew vaguely how the Leap Pad worked, having seen commercials and whatnot. Colche Colche nodded. She knew which book her picture was in, she remembered Ambrose showing it to her. Jumping off the couch she went to find the book returning quickly and flipping throught he pages until she found cheetahs and the singular image with bold writing underneath that said 'King cheetah.' "Princess cheetah" she grinned, pointing at the picture of the unusually marked cheetah. Everyone knew that little girl kings were princesses.
"I likes Sleepin' Beauty bestest...It nice, like faries an' prince is purty" she giggled. She liked the prince and sometimes played Sleeping beauty half expecting a prince to come, though he never did, she wasn't that dissapointed, One day her prince would come, Aubrey had said so. Nita MacNeal "Ohhhhh." Nita breathed a sound of understanding, reading the caption. "That's very clever." She giggled, looking back and forth from Colche to the picture. She looked very much like the cheetah, and Nita wondered if she was changed all the way, and what Colche had looked like before. "'Sleeping Beauty' is good too," she agreed. "Were you coming in here to watch a movie or read?" Colche "Dee vee dee" the femme replied with a giggle. She still had lots of stories to watch, disney was quickly becoming her favourite and she musty certainly have watched them all at least once since she had discovered how to use the dvd player. That didn't mean she couldn't watch them again though. She was in the mood for a princess story. She giggled flickering her long fluffy tail "wanna watch..with..me" She grinned, she knew that was a correct sentence, she wanted desperately to speak like everyone else. she was getting there, slowly but definately getting there. Nita MacNeal Nita stuck a finger between the pages of the book to hold her place. "Sure, I'll watch a movie with you." It had been far too long since she had seen any of her old favorites. She flipped the book open to take note of the page number and set it on the floor next to the couch. She would take it back to her duplex and read through it more carefully there. Pulling a pillow out from behind her, she slipped off her sandals and put her feet up, holding the pillow in her lap like a teddy bear. It was definitely time for something old and familiar. "You go ahead and pick," the red-head told Colche. "I'll even sing along with you." Nita grinned. Finally, someone who wouldn't be annoyed by her tendency to sing along with Disney movies. Colche Colche nodded and jumped off the couch. She padded to the shelves, her walk strange, a mixture between the graceful long legged saunter of the cheetah and a childish hop skip bounce of somone filled with energy and the lust for life. Her tail twitched as she looked down the row of disney movies. She smiled, picking out The Little Mermaid. She went back to the DVD player and slipped it straight in. If Nita liked this one lots she would happily watch it again. It was a fun movie, if a bit scary.
Taking a virtual leap on to the couch again she leans against Nita, her cheek pressed against the female's arm as she fixed those sweet blue eyes on the screen.
A gentle puurr escaped her, she liked to watch all the adverts, mostly because she liked to say she had seen that, and also because she didn't know that there was a skip button. As the small cheetah girl lay curled against the red head, it could be seen fairly visably that her front, the only non furry part of her body, was scattered with old scars and her left wrist still held, despite the fur, a dark callus. Most of her scars would fade away no doubt when that skin was replaced with the tan and black marked fur but the callus would remain forever if somewhat hidden by the fur. Nita MacNeal 'The Little Mermaid' was just fine with Nita, who had used to play Ariel in the tub when she was little, holding her breath and swimming around in the tub. She shifted her arm, putting it around Colche's shoulders so it wouldn't fall asleep with the cheetah-girl's head pressing into it. She suppressed a giggle at the purr that emerged from the younger girl and settled down to watch the movie. The familiar music was comforting and she hummed along quietly. The scars that were faintly visible on Colche's front caught her eye, as did the callous on her wrist. A tiny frown tugged at the corners of Nita's mouth. Such markings couldn't be accidental or self-inflicted. Colche "Under the sea" Colche sang along to the few bars she knew from the song humming the rest and nestling happily in Nita's lap. The puurr which echoed naturally from her chest faded as she sang though could grow quite loud when she was simply watching and enjoying the film.
Glancing up at Nita, Colche giggled. "Nita like Ariel" she grinned, linking the red hair of the older girl to the red headed mermaid. She liked that idea and would certainly link it from hence forth. Everyone had a nick name in Colche's mind, usually drawn from one of her stories or from the movies they watched. Usually they were nice names, This one suited Nita and she settled down once again happy to watch the film in a puury silence. She did notice the slight frown on Nita's brow but she shrugged it off. Alot of people frowned they were usually happy after a movie. Nita MacNeal Nita giggled and sang along with most of the song, still remembering the words from the dozens of times she had seen the movie as a child. Holding out one long braid for inspection, Nita grinned again. "Hm, I suppose I am like Ariel! Although I don't have a fishy tail." She wiggled in her seat, letting herself enjoy the sweet company of Colche and the movie. Colche Colche's ears twitched a little and she gave a giggle, though the appearance of the eels and ultimately Ursala made ehr hiss just a little. The lady was VERY BAD. The fact that girls could be bad people too had never occured to Colche really. men were bad and a woman had saved ehr from that pit she had lived in most of her life. However she knew now that girls could be bad too. Most girls were nice though, princesses and queens.
"Hoom" Colche looked thoughtful "Ariel gets legs" she nodded an affirmative, she had watched this film at least once before, hence why she knew some of the bars to the most catchy songs in the film. She knew the story and taht it turned out happily ever after, as stories were supposed to. "Ariel live happy ever after. nice prince" she giggles facinated with the screen once again, her attention couldn't be held away from the moving pictures for very long. Nita MacNeal Nita hugged Colche's shoulders when she hissed. The Sea Witch had terrified her when she was younger, even though she'd known perfectly well it was just a movie. "Yup, Ariel's a lucky girl. She gets her legs and a handsome prince." She didn't say anything along the lines of how it was a bit of a shame Ariel couldn't ever really visit her old family, and what would happen if Prince Eric had turned out to be a schmuck. Colche seemed to take away Nita's sarcastic edge, and besides, it really was a good movie. Colche "Aubrey says I find prince one day" she puurred happily, the thought, though rather juvenile perhaps was one she actually looked forward to, though some things confused her about 'having a prince' it still excited her to think of somone whom loved you.
"Ariel nice, purty red hair like Nita" she giggled. She just had to reaffirm that Nita would remind her of the red haired mermaid before she snuggled deeper in to her lap and watched on silent and pleased that she had found a new friend. Nita MacNeal "Well, I'm sure Aubrey is right," Nita replied, not making the connection between "Aubrey" and "Dr. Lockheart." "Although I'm not sure he'll really have a castle, just a nicely decorated duplex." Nita snickered, picturing one of the rather sterile-looking duplexes with a turret. She'd always wanted a turret... She tickled Colche with the end of one braid, more relaxed than she had been for quite a while. Colche Colche couldn't even imagine living in a castle. Well she could a little but she had small ideas of what a castle was. Having only really lived in a few places, the basement, and her duplex and for a little while the jungle, a castle seemed a little out there even for her imagination.
The girl sighed and looked up at Nita. "I'm seventeen soon, gonna have a ball like Cinderella." She grinned broadly. Aubrey had promised and though it had been mroe than a month since she had seen her mother figure, she knew Aubrey was a busy lady, she had held on to the little glimmer of her party, her ball, Aubrey had promised after all and she never broke a promise. Nita MacNeal "Really? When is your birthday?" Nita asked. Her own birthday was coming up, too. Nita, unlike most of the other islanders, it seemed, actually knew the date. She had been keeping track of the days since she arrived, and had made a little calender in one of her spiral-bound notebooks. She wasn't sure if a ball was a particularly good idea, considering the outcome of Fiona's beach party, but if it was for Colche... Nita had a hard time thinking of anyone not liking Colche. Colche Colche smiled. "May First" she stated simply. She didn't really know or understand dates, but Aubrey had said May First and that it was pretty soon. She wondered when exactly it was but soon was good enough for her.
Giving a little yawn she smiled to herself her blue eyes looking droopy. She usually had a nap after a movie and already the movie was drawing to a close. "Got pretty dress like Cinderella and getting a Sabastian" she smiled, her long ashen lashes touching her furry spotted cheeks. "Be a princess, real princess at ball in purty dress" Giving a slight, muscular catty stretch, her tail standing to attention for a moment and poofing out so it was even more fluffy that usual before she curled it around one of her legs and nested happily against Nita. "Be a really real princess" she muttered, her deep blue eyes closing for longer periods, she stayed silent, watching the very last bit of the movie, all was well Ariel got her prince and there was no more sea witch, as the screen darkened and the credits came up her eyes finally closed for good. It was nap time. Hopefully Nita wouldn't mind being a pillow for a bit. Nita MacNeal The first of May really was soon! "You'll be a beautiful princess," Nita said, smoothing Colche's hair out of her face. Colche's yawn made her yawn, and the pair watched the end of the movie in silence. Once Colche was pretty definitely asleep, Nita turned off the TV and extricated herself out from under the cheetah-girl. She placed the pillow she had been hugging under Colche's head and covered her up with a blanket. Nita reclaimed the Asian animals book and tiptoed out of the entertainment room, hitting the lightswitch on the way out.

Lauren walked up to what she remembered was Nita's duplex. She had calmed down a bit after the party, a good nap and a healthy meal with some time alone helped her forget about things. After all it had been a couple of years after he mother died so the wound wasn't as bad as it had been a year ago. But it still hurt at times. The girl hoped she was at the right duplex as she knocked on the door. Something made this a bit akward, but she didn't know what. She had forgotten about that night.

Nita had been taking a short nap herself when a knock on the door woke her up. She sat up and rubbed at her eyes, peering at the travel alarm next to the bed. Smoothing down her hair, she tiptoed to the door and peeked through the peephole. Lauren? She opened up the door and smiled. "Oh, hey, come on in. What's up?"
She let Lauren in, her duplex as neat as ever. The bookcase had finally arrived, so her books were no longer on the floor. She sat down on the bed cross-legged, indicating for Lauren to sit wherever.

Lauren pulled up a chair close to the bed. "Well, something has been on my mind." She looked a little worried towards Nita, "I hate haveing holes in my memory and I just can't remember much from Fiona's party." Lauren fidgetted a bit with one of her bracelets. "Did I do anything stupid?" She hoped she didn't. "I mean, I know I was around you a lot."

Nita blinked. So Lauren didn't remember. "Um," she began, clasping her hands in her lap, "you were kinda loud, so I dragged you off to sober up..." She paused and bit her lip. "And you kissed me. Just a little." One of Nita's hands moved up to cover her mouth and she blushed furiously.

Lauren was a bit shocked but not totally surprised. So that was why she had put off asking this. "Oh..." She spotted Nita's blush, "I'm sorry?" It was more of a question then anything else. But was she? She wasn't sure what else to say.

"It's okay," Nita mumbled around her hand. "I mean, I didn't really mind. Er.. Oh hell." The redhead threw up her hands, not really knowing what she meant, or if she wanted Lauren to have meant the kiss. Had it just been a drunken impulse? Did Nita want it to have been? She sighed and watched Lauren carefully.

Lauren smiled nervously a bit, "You... didn't mind?" It had been a drunken impulse but the truth was, Lauren was attracted to her. "********, I mean it's just that I don't know you... I mean, I would like to know you. I mean..." it seemed like Lauren's horomones had gone more rampid now that she was part animal. "But... I wish I remembered." She wondered if she should of said that last part, was that too much?

Nita fidgeted, cheeks approximately the color of her hair. There was a reason she had avoided these kinds of situations in the past.
"Well, no," she managed. "I mean, I do like you, the little bit I know you, at least." She tilted her head to the side. "And yeah, it would be easier if you'd remembred." A grin threatened the corners of her lips, in spite of Nita's general discombobulation.
