Hybris didn’t expect that sort of thing from himself either. Maybe didn’t even like it, so it was fine if that part of him belonged to Eles as well. He could keep it. The pressure and motion of that foot grew steadily more insistent the more Hybris thought of it.
“You still have to feel bad for me,” Hybris reminded him. “But I’m glad you did it. I think I’d love you a little less, if you had raised that hammer…and then let it go. You can’t just suddenly raise me up only to let me down gently, you know.” If it was that kind of love, it’d have simply floated away weeks ago.
“But only those two. If I piss you off again, you have to settle for something else.”

"Oh ********, Mal," and this time, he sat up all the way. Scooted back a margin. Caught his breath, waited for the pressure at the base of him to let up a little.
"I don't ******** around like that." Not with the six weeks' worth of memories he clutched to his name. Maybe that would change if he pulled more people into his life, if he relaxed his expectations for people who weren't so vital. People who were free to drift in and out of his life, and him in theirs. That was no longer a possibility for either of them, he thought. Nor did he want it to be.
Eles pulled himself up enough to sit atop Hybris's legs, encroaching on those injuries. "You piss me off again and we figure it out," Eles confirmed in a voice laden with impatience. On his knees, it was easy to take those hands, to guide them where they needed to be.
"Stop asking me to think right now." Leaning forward, his breath disturbed the delicate wefts that nestled about Hybris's ear as he whispered something very impulsive and thoughtless instead.
