"Man, another one of these?" Absinthe groaned. Her chat kept on insisting that Tynamo was a good catch, and she kept on ignoring them. It got to the point where she had to remind them that this was a catching challenge, and the Pokemon she ended up catching didn't matter - its rank did.

Another safari contest comes more potential to train and another potential Pokémon to add to the repertoire. With all consideration, Tristen didn’t really need to go anywhere any more than his adoptive parents, but when he heard about this gathering was going to be at another academy, Tristen couldn’t help but to be curious about it. Fortune smiled on him for that matter when he was allowed to come over this way in some sort of inter-academy study program. Upon arriving here at Blueberry Academy, he would meet with some of the student body, some of which was two that he actually heard of during a recent trip to Kitakami: the grandchildren of the mask maker in Kitakami. Apparently they're named Kieran and Carmine and they have been students here for quite a while. Though, honestly, it was a little tough getting any conversation made with Kieran in particular. He seemed a bit shy; and severely apprehensive when his sister was involved, who came off severely cocky at first, severely overbearing (if not borderline abusive) towards her brother in the middle, which resulted in a Pokemon battle that got her to shut up at the end. He didn't care for bullies, as a good few found out the hard way.
From there, once he started to take a tour of the academy as a whole, Tristen was absolutely astounded and almost in a way regretting choices, honestly. Finding out that the academy was for the most part a gigantic dome built under the literal sea left him to question all manner of logistics, like the simple fact of having air constantly distributed throughout the entire compound, never mind keeping atmosphere to sustain not only the students but countless Pokémon that may be in this gigantic ‘bubble’ left him to question just who in the world crossed that threshold of insanity to not only implement such a thing, but finance it as well.
This trip wasn’t going to be forever, however and things didn’t seem to be as bad as what he imagined it to be. And as long as he was here, he might as well try to take advantage of what this place had to offer. He would end up exploring the gigantic dome, a task that would take seemingly forever. Mountainous areas with running rivers, that fed into tiny artificial lakes. A polar biome with many crevaces and underwater habitats for the various ice Pokémon and related Pokémon that would live in such an area. A costal area, with a large beach for leisure for both student and Pokémon. And a wide open expanse of a savannah where many flatland Pokémon roam. Then finally where Tristen found himself at.
Apart from a Pokémon battlefield in the dead center between all of these biomes, there is a cavern system that branched between the mountainous and polar areas. To what Tristen was to understand, this branching system of caverns was reminiscent of the Chargestone caverns in the Unova region, made all the more apparent with the glowing blue rocks that floated by means of magnetism. It had its own flourishing population of all sorts. Almost immediately Tristen noticed the various Tynamo and Joltik that scrambled away once he started to set foot in there. Maybe he could find another electric type to add to the party, but he wasn’t honestly sure. He’s gotten by pretty well with Galvantula and Zebstrika, and if all is willing, maybe even Electabuzz. Maybe there’s a Pokémon he haven’t thought about?
Tristen would start setting up the proverbial shop in the cavern, picking a spot. He took out some bait and honey. Freth made the mention that while one could go willy-nilly around a safari area, it seemed like some of the better stuff comes out when you entice them. Though, when he was told this, Eris apparently wanted to have an argument with Freth about this whole thing being borderline poaching. Tristen would end up setting the items out, having the honey’s aroma waft in the air and left bait out nearby to pre-occupy the Pokémon long enough for Tristen to make a move. Once the lures were out, Tristen would take a hiding spot and lie and wait.
(Bait used, rolling 1 – 25 range, honey to make #3 and #15 as Chespin)

Another Elekid popped up. Absinthe ignored it, though. She was starting to get tired of constantly running into low-rank Pokemon in this cave. She chose this cave because, based on what she read, it had the most high-ranked Pokemon out of the regions used in the challenge, and she was starting to wonder if that information was accurate. Maybe it was just bad luck.

"Man, I'm tired of this," Absinthe complained as a Magneton hovered at her and menaced her in Pokespeak. "I SHOULD have found at LEAST a Rank 4 Pokemon by now, but apparently this cave is overpopulated by WUSSES!" she shouted. With a groan, she shifted her shoulder - signaling her Pawmo to jump down and attack, which she did. "A Rank 3 Mageton will have to do," she huffed. As her chat tried to placate her by claiming that Magnezone was a pretty solid Pokemon competitively, which of course she didn't care about, Pawmaster smirked as another Zap Cannon flew past her. She followed up with Focus Punch, aiming to knock it out, but was surprised when it didn't faint thanks to is ability, Sturdy.
Absinthe throw a Safari Ball before Pawmaster could attack again.

"Alright, chat, Rank 3's gonna hafta do. Let's hope its quality is really high and Magneton pulls through for us," Absinthe stated. She then let Pawmaster back in her ball. She spent the walk back to where the contest judges were set up chatting with the people watching her stream. She apologized with them for getting frustrated, but watching all the tiny, weak Pokemon passing her by when she was looking for something high-rank to make winning the contest easier really got under her skin after a while. Some people asked her what she planned to do with the Magneton she caught after the contest, but she never answered them.

Rachel cursed silently as the Swablu broke free of the Safari Ball and took off into the air. She let out a sigh as it flew out of sight, and she glanced at Rainer to see that he seemed to be doing alright. "Let's go, Rainer," she said. "We'll have to try and catch something different."

The next Pokemon to appear was a Sinistea, one that Rachel recognized from her brief time in Galar. This one didn't seem to be interested in battling, and Rachel had to admire it as it floated away. Hmm, perhaps a different one, then.

Tristen would sit by waiting around, practically camped in his hiding spot waiting on any Pokémon to take the bait. Tristen wasn’t entirely certain if his presence already scared off all the Pokémon in the vicinity. Considering that it seemed like there was a lot of electric Pokémon in here, perhaps they knew Tristen was here, who practically had a rather blatant electric field about him just naturally himself. It wasn’t like he was going to be able to hide himself in here; it was going to be a obvious trap. Time continued to go on by as he waited. Tristen would start trying to keep himself preoccupied in the only way he had access to. The SNAG. Unfortunately, that was going to be easier said than done. The most he had access to was the Pokedex features and any other apps installed. The electrical interference in the cave was screwing with the reception of the SNAG. Couldn’t really call anyone, couldn’t browse anything, couldn’t catch up with the news in Unova, let alone here in Blueberry Academy. Probably the only one in the entire compound, incidentally.
It would come to a point where Tristen would just give up on the SNAG and just wait. Nothing to really do other than just stew in boredom. And the dirt and rock floor he was sitting on wasn’t exactly the most comfortable thing in this gigantic dome, let alone in this cave. He started to draw shapes in the dirt, make stick figure characters and so on, accompany it with tiny pebbles and such. What else was there to do as he waited around? He didn’t know. Boredom was a heck of a thing. As he futzed around, drawing stick figures of those he imagined his friends back at Uva-Naranja and those back at Team Snagem, he only briefly glanced at where he left the bait, then practically double-taked. The bait got something’s attention and it wasn’t exactly what he expected.
It was a tiny Pokémon, green and brown. A grass type typically known in the Kalos region. “A Chespin…?” Tristen asked himself silently. He’d quickly wipe away his little doodles in the dirt with his foot, eyeing the Chespin as it approached the bait. “…what is that doing here?” He’d then silently asked himself. Obviously, the Academy would have had Pokémon like this planted in this dome, but he didn’t think that a grass Pokémon such as that would actually give a care for something like an electrically charged cavern. If nothing else, maybe out in the Savannah or on the grassy hilltops around the mountainous area. Not here. Though, At the end of the day, to Tristen, it didn’t honestly matter really in the long run. A Chespin actually interested Tristen at this point. Maybe…this Pokémon could be cool to have around.
Once the Chespin found itself taking note of the bait and started to partake in it, Tristen made his move. He started to silently step around, away from his hiding spot, taking out a Pokeball. “Go! Magmar!” Tristen shouted, tossing the Pokeball out. Tristen’s call out made the Chespin perk up and quickly turn around, his eyes widening like a Deerling caught in headlights. The ball landed close by and out came the walking inferno that was Magmar.
“Maaaggg.” Magmar moaned out, loosening up and getting ready for battle.
The Chespin in a near panic quickly started to try to make a run for it, not wanting to get caught up in anything that Magmar had to bring to the proverbial table. “Oh, no you don’t! Magmar! Go! Fire Spin!” Tristen shouted. He had to make sure this Chespin wasn’t getting away. Magmar breathed in and unleashed a spiraling flame which came down upon the Chespin. The Chespin stopped in its tracks, but as it tried to move aside, more fire started to come down, surrounding the Grass type, constricting it. The Chespin squealed out as the fires started to sear into it, blocking off its escape, at least for the time being.
Now between fire and a hard place, Chespin found all that it could do at the moment was stand its ground against the walking inferno. The Chespin quickly started to form a large mud ball quickly forming it from the dirt around it, then fired it off towards Magmar. Magmar tried to shield its face as the attack pelted the fire Pokémon, making it stagger back a couple of steps. “A Mud Shot? Okay, that’s actually not good. Magmar! Use Flamethrower!” he shouted. The Magmar once it was able quickly retaliated, unleashing a large plume of fire, engulfing the Chespin in its firey wake, causing immense amounts of damage to the grassy Pokémon as the fires seared into it.
As the plume cleared, Tristen found the Chespin on the ground, burned severely, grimacing hard from the attack, but much to the kid’s astonishment, this thing was still willing to fight. This was a total mismatch, but yet the Chespin was being hardy enough to keep fighting. “Maaag?” Magmar asked Tristen.
“I dunno. I was about ready to try using a Pokeball right about now…go and try using Smog?” Tristen said. It wasn’t like he was wanting to kill this tiny grass type. He wanted Chespin down for capture, not out. Let alone out for good. As Magmar turned back to do as commanded, the Chespin started to run in, a hard sprint as seeds started to form within Chespin’s grasp. He then tossed the hard clump of seeds, as they started to glow, primed to blow. “Woah! Magmar! Watch it!” Tristen shouted. Magmar went to move out of the way, the Seed Bomb landing close by and blasted the area near Magmar. Seeds, stones, and dust started to fly about everywhere, making Magmar wince. “Ugh…Chespin must be feeling Overgrow right about now!” Tristen said, but then in the dust, Tristen started to notice something coming forth through the dust. “Magmar! Look out!”
Chespin would then rush in, head first, ramming into Magmar’s gut. A reckless Take Down attack that made the fire Pokémon stagger back and fall over backwards. As Magmar went to quickly get back up, far from deterred, the Chespin once again was starting to form seeds, ready to hit the Magmar this time square on with an empowered Seed bomb. “Oh that is enough of that! Magmar! Fire Punch!” Tristen then shouted. Magmar’s fist went completely ablaze; a massive inferno formed about its fist as the Chespin made its hard final hurrah towards the fiery bruiser. Magmar stepped forward and drove its fist through the Seed Bomb, breaking through the grass Pokémon’s attack and driving it right into the body of the Chespin, once again causing extensive damage to the tiny Pokémon. The Chespin gets sent flying back, hitting the ground.
The Chespin once again was trying to find its way back up but it was having the hardest time in the world. The various burns and damage otherwise was making it extensively hard. Tristen had as good of a shot as any at this point. Quickly, he’d take out a Ultra Ball and give it a hard toss towards the Chespin. This battle needed to stop sooner than later…

The Ultra ball ensnared the Chespin and much to Tristen’s astonishment, the ball still wanted to shake furiously. For whatever reason, this Chespin was still wanting to fight, even though as far as what he could think, it was borderline futile. Especially with such a bigger opponent such as Magmar. Never mind the type advantage. The ball shook constantly for at least a few seconds, but then the fever pitch shake would then started to die out. And once the shaking stopped, the ball finally clicked, the Pokémon secured in the ball. Tristen sighed out in a bit of relief, grateful the battle didn’t have to go any more than what it already had. He and Magmar would then walk up to the ball, the Manectric hybrid leaning over to pick it up and held it up for the Magmar to see. “Well. Looks like we got another Pokémon to play with the others, don’t we? Though…we might need to first work on getting you two to get along. I don’t think that it’s going to let taking all of those fire attacks go right away.” Tristen said, grimacing himself a little bit. “Magmaarr…” Magmar concurred with Tristen as it looked at the Ultra Ball for a second. “Alright, Magmar, lets go see what else this place has before we end up having to go back to Paldea.” He said. The two of them would start making their way off through the Chargestone cavern to explore this place some more before the inevitable signaling to call off the excursion. Canyon Biome
As they kept walking, Rachel and Rainer had to admit, this was a beautiful place. She could see a lot of variants of Pokemon making this their home, especially if they were from other regions. She nearly tripped over a rock at one point, but the thing she tripped on floated into the air, proving it was no ordinary rock. This one had five points to it and what looked like dark indents for eyes, and Rachel didn't recognize it right away. Pulling out her SNAG, she pointed it at the Pokemon and activated the Pokedex function. Ah, it would appear this was a Minior, a Pokemon that came from space. Hmm, that would be an interesting one to get a hold of. "What do you think, Rainer?" she asked, looking at the Eevee. "Should we try to catch it?"
The Eevee gave a cry of his name as he leaped forward, spinning around midair and kicking out with his hind paws. The Double Kick landed and caused quite a bit of damage, causing the Minior to give a cry of its name as it launched a Confuse Ray. Rainer yelped as he dodged, only just missing the multi-colored balls as they hit the ground where he'd just been standing. The Eevee ran forward and tried to utilize Double Kick again, but Rachel saw the faint glow that signified a specific attack. "Rainer, get out of there!" she called, trying to warn her partner. While he spotted the attack, Rainer wasn't able to get out of the way in time, and the glow around the Minior brightened until it used Explosion, blasting the area and knocking itself unconscious. As close as he'd been to the impact site, Rachel was worried that Rainer had been seriously injured, but when the dust cleared a moment later, she saw a glowing green shield in front of her partner, and she gave a sigh of relief as she realized he'd managed to pull off a last-second Protect. "Well done!" she said, walking forward and ruffling the fur on his head fondly. Rainer leaned into this trainer's touch, cooing happily. "Let's keep going, yeah?"

Canyon Biome
After a while, Rachel decided it was time to stop for a bite to eat. While she wasn't much of a cook, herself, she could make a decent sandwich, and she'd made a few for this outing. Rainer was perfectly happy digging into his meal, and Rachel took her time eating her own, reflecting on their journey so far. It seemed like only yesterday they'd joined the team, and yet, everyone had made her feel welcome. Her train of thought was interrupted by a cry of outrage from Rainer, and she looked at him to see that part of his sandwich was missing. That missing part had just disappeared down the gullet of a Treecko that had approached without being seen. Wait, what was this little one doing here? Wouldn't the Savanna biome be a better place for it? Before she could thing too much on it, the Treecko darted out of the way as Rainer used a Tackle attack on it, sticking its tongue out at the Normal-type as it tried to steal the rest of his sandwich.
Rainer wasn't having it, however, as he growled and fired a Swift, striking the Treecko dead in the chest and send it rolling backward. When it stopped rolling, it laid on the ground for a moment, a little dazed, then shook its head and leaped to its feet, irritation clear in its eyes. Ah, this one had a feisty spirit. Rachel decided not to give any orders for this one, wanting to see how Rainer would handle the thief. The Normal-type fired another Swift, which the Treecko countered with a Bullet Seed before rocketing forward with a Quick Attack. As it ran, she could see its tail light up, and she realized that this Treecko must have been training on its own. Rainer barely managed to dodge the Quick Attack, but he wasn't able to get out of the way of the Pound attack that followed, sending him reeling as the Treecko pressed its advantage.
Rainer fired off a Shadow Ball that made the Treecko back off, and once he had the space he needed, the Eevee sat on his haunches and allowed tears to gather in his eyes and fall to the ground. This caught the Treecko off guard, causing it to stumble. Rainer capitalized on this by firing off a second Swift, which struck the Treecko and earned a cry of pain from it. Right, Fake Tears lowered an opponent's Special Attack, and since Swift was a Special attack, it did a lot more damage than it would normally. The Grass-type was panting at this point, seriously hurting from the empowered attack it had just taken. Rachel could see it getting ready to use another attack, and she figured this would be a good time to lob a Safari Ball at it. The ball struck the Treecko in the side, sucking it inside in a flash of red light and snapping shut before it began to wobble from side to side.

Rachel and Rainer both watched as the Safari Ball wobbled, once, twice, three times. It seemed to shake forever until, after about thirty seconds, it finally stopped shaking, and they heard a click as the occupant failed to escape. Rainer gave a happy cheer, and Rachel gave a giggle as she walked forward to pick up her newest capture. This little one would make an excellent addition to her team. Perhaps he could get along with Clint, since both of them were Grass-types. Only time would tell, but for right now, she and Rainer had a lunch to finish. Once they were done eating, they decided it would be a good idea to take a nap for a bit, so they could recuperate from the last few battles they'd been in.
